Nah Eeto - Wanawake

Nah Eeto

Wanawake

12inchSWAMPX1
Swamp 81
26.05.2020

Hot off his hugely well received EP on 81, 'Who is Genre Anyway', which reached the top of both the UK Bass and Dubstep charts, underground legend Sumgii and Swamp81 continue their roll this year teaming up with Kenya's biggest rising star Nah Eeto, tipped to be the hottest act in the country this summer.

Just like her ethereal, relaxed, soulful rap style that seamlessly jumps from English to Swahili at a whim, Nah Eeeto's lyrics take us on a journey, narrating the ownership of female empowerment in an unruly & sometimes dangerous, yet traditional environment, whilst naturally flowing into lighter hearted themes of just loving to chill in front of a good cartoon. Her flow sits flawlessly with Sumgii's eerie, yet enticing, minimal beats and it has resulted in an utterly mesmerising project that continues to break further into new grounds for Swamp81 who once again bring us a sound not quite heard before.

To match, it drops with a hypnotizing video, made and produced by Nah Eeto herself, brimming with scenic views of Kenyas vast landscape and raw footage of its slums and parties truly bringing Wanawake to life. What's more, an extra treat for Swamp81 die-hards, Loefah has teamed up with them for the remix on the B-side which is a club coup in its own right. Wanawake Out on March 27th.

Mama Ode - Tales & Patterns Of The Maroons

Brothers Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Jeen Bassa come together as Mama Odé on full length album 'Tales And Patterns Of The Maroons'. At its core this is a classic "hip hop" format LP - but have you ever heard Creole Sega Rap Roots music before? Of Creole descent from a group of African islands that transiently have hosted many settlers, west African slaves, colonialists and the potentially indigenous East African-Malagache Maroons; the brothers have an inherent spirit of diversity that runs through their recordings. Musical influences consist of jazz, funk, blues and reggae to un-placeable but definite Afro-drum patterns, through to their Golden-Era-Rap vocal flows, which have a sure nod to ATCQ and Slum Village. The album's deep grooves overwhelmingly seed optimism, subscribing to a positive future drawn from historically multi-ethnic ancestral lines. The brothers' natural vocals carry messages of unity, love and well being as well as a conscious questioning of humanity's ill practices and ideas.

Busta Rhymes - The Coming

Busta Rhymes

The Coming

12inchGET52718LP
GET ON DOWN
08.10.2020

Busta Rhymes delivered his debut album, The Coming, three years after the Leaders of the New School unofficially disbanded. Though his talents were evident on those Leaders of the New School releases, Busta went on a series of features that only built up the public's desire for a solo Busta album. Right out the gate Busta dropped his classic debut single "Woo Hah!!" that made it abundantly clear he was to be mentioned among Hip Hop's greatest solo artists. The energy and originality packed on that one song set a tone for the album that displays Busta's raw talent and ability to bend words with his ever rambunctious flow. Songs such as "Everything Remains Raw", "Abandon Ship", and "Still Shining" all rise above as The Coming's stand out tracks but it's really "ill Vibe" that is the albums crown jewel moment. Busta sounds right at home over this J Dilla beat trading verses with his Native Tongue cohort Q-Tip. The Coming was a critical and commercial success for Busta Rhymes. It reached #6 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1996 and has
since received a platinum certification from RIAA. As mentioned The Coming boasts the hit single "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check" which reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1996. It was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. It also ended up sporting another hit single, "It's a Party" featuring Zhané. The Coming shows amazing variety where Busta is able to break free from the bells and the whistles of the Busta "Dungeon Dragon" flow to explore other ways of leaving our jaws open by his incredible lyricism. The Coming surely lives up to its title, as Busta delivers a performance that ignited his impeccable solo career.

Black Moon - I Got Cha Opin

Black Moon

I Got Cha Opin

7"-VinylWR24537
WRECK RECORDS
18.12.2018

The next batch of all-time CLASSIC hip-hop anthems from the Nervous vaults, pressed onto high quality dinked 45's. Collectors and DJ's take note!

Remastered from the original source material and featuring the unedited 'dirty' version on the A-side, and the full instrumental on the B-side, these 45's are for the heads who know what time it really is!

The original LP version of the slamming underground jam 'I Gotcha Open' from 1994 sees Black Moon doing what they do best - spitting some serious heat over more Beatminerz grooves. It's all here, the filtered bassline that is a straight Beatminerz trademark, paired with some killer echo-laden drum programming and those sick horns! The perfect vehicle for the Buckshot Shorty to get loose with his inimitable style. This is that classic mid 90's flavour, classic from end to end. If that wasn't enough for you, you get blessed with Evil Dee & Mr Walt's instrumental on the flipside which will definitely get you open, fronting is optional but not advised! You have been warned.

Fully legit, licensed and reissued by Above Board distribution in conjunction with Nervous Records, NYC. 2018.

ERIC B. & RAKIM - I KNOW YOU GOT SOUL

Eric B.&Rakim

I KNOW YOU GOT SOUL

7"-VinylMRB7162
Mr Bongo
07.05.2020

While it’s undeniable that Eric B & Rakim crafted and concocted classic after classic back in the Golden Era of the late 80’s and early 90’s, very few of their records could ever be classified as ‘dancefloor fillers’. But that’s exactly what ‘I Know You Got Soul’ was.

The duo’s third single was released at a time when their debut LP, 1987’s ‘Paid in Full’ was already being hailed as a gamechanger. Rakim’s smooth but sombre flow had introduced new phrases to the hip-hop lexicon, while the barrage of James Brown samples had declared open season on the Godfather of Soul’s back catalogue.

There were already stirrings of a backlash from the more frequently sampled artists at the time this came out, and the fact that it took not just its main hook but also its title from Bobby Byrd’s James Brown-produced 1971 single was almost like rubbing salt in the wound. The hip-hop fans and the dancefloor didn’t care – this played all summer long in 1987, elevating the group to a Soul Train performance.

Only months after this dropped, the UK collective M|A|R|R|S turned Rakim’s “Pump up the volume” line into the basis of their own hit. Pop will eat itself.

The original 7” was released in a no-frills generic sleeve – this re-release comes with a brand new cover utilising some of Dan Lish’s trademark artwork.

Kool G Rap & 38 Spesh - Son Of G Rap: Special Edition

Vinyl Edition Featuring New Art! Features Guest Verses From Cormega, N.O.R.E., Meyhem Lauren, Freddie Gibbs, And More Plus Guest Production From Alchemist, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, And More. Kool G Rap doesn’t let his legend status stop him from continuing to do what he loves. Last year, the Corona, Queens veteran dropped his ‘Return Of The Don’ album, and in 2018, he’s following up the solid effort with a collaborative album full of heavy hitters behind the boards and on the mic, alongside Rochester native 38 Spesh (aka $pesh), who linked with Griselda Records’ Benny the Butcher earlier this year for the well-received ‘Stabbed & Shot’ album. The album’s tracklisting boasts veteran features like Cormega and NORE, while also brandishing newer school spitters like Freddie Gibbs and Meyhem Lauren, and Griselda Records’ Benny The Butcher. Behind the boards, as mentioned, KGR summoned production akin to MCing prowess. Alchemist heads up “Land Mine” while DJ Premier and Pete Rock lay the beats for two tracks each. Album mainstays Midnite and 38 Spesh handle most of the rest of the production. Overall, the project is a lot of what you’d expect from Kool G Rap: grimy street rhymes full of stories of peril and the beats to match. On “Land Mine,” the duo of 38 Spesh and Ransom provide a rather introspective look-back on their troubled come up while a song like “Flow Gods” reminds everyone that G and his assembly are nothing to be taken lightly when it comes to witty wordplay and velvety smooth bars.

Souls Of Mischief - 93 'Til Infinity LP 2x12"

Repressed for the first time in 2 years, Note price change. Remastered from the original masters and pressed extra loud for DJs. There are very few albums across any genre that stand the test of time better than 93 ‘Til Infinity, the classic debut record from the Hieroglyphics crew’s very own Souls of Mischief. In an era where Gangsta Rap and G-Funk dominated the West Coast Rap scene, Souls broke ground on a completely unique and thoroughly west coast sound.

While the Dr. Dre’s and the Snoop Doggs were garnering much of the mainstream attention, Souls were quietly forging a charismatic, critically acclaimed, and cohesively shaped record that when categorized, sounded much closer to A Tribe Called Quest than N.W.A. The sound of their debut is characteristic of the distinct style explored by the collective, including a rhyme scheme based on internal rhyme and beats centered around a live bass and obscure jazz and funk samples. 93 ‘Til Infinity was propelled into success by its title track and lead single, which reached #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also featured singles “That’s When Ya Lost” and “Never No More” which also reached the Hot Rap Singles.

In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source’s 100 Best Rap Albums of All Time. Considered by many to be a text book “slept-on” classic Rap record, 93 ‘Til Infinity has only grown better with age.

The album simply defines the Hiero golden age with a sound that would later be fine tuned with strong releases from MCs Del The Funkee Homosapien, Casual and Pep Love. It takes some serious bravado to name your album 93 ‘Til Infinity, but certainly the goal of creating a Hip Hop “classic” must have been on the collective minds of group members A-Plus, Tajai, Opio, and Phesto when recording this landmark moment in Hip Hop history.

It’s true, even seventeen years after the album’s initial release many people are still discovering it, and with this re-mastered reissue on double vinyl, fans all over the world will once again discover the brilliance that 93 ‘Til Infinity delivers and will continue to deliver beyond infinity.

This French Classic Hip-Hop Album for the 1st Time on Wax !!
Description by Moar in 2007:

“For my beginnings in the 90’s, impregnated with this great hip-hop period, but also jazz, rock, soul and funk artists that I never stopped sampling from good all vinyls. This album, in gestation since 2002 began with instrumental
version. Just after my arrival in Paris four years ago, I met with many people sharing with me the same view of the music and its exchanges. That’s the reason why this solo album got richer thanks to a lot of interesting
collaborations. Enjoy.

The Allergies - Say The Word

The Allergies

Say The Word

2x12inchJAL350V
Jalapeno
14.07.2020

Off the back of the inescapably addictive funk rattle 'n' romp 'Felony', an A-list playlist choice of BBC Radio 6 Music spun by Craig Charles, Lauren Laverne and Mary Anne Hobbs as well as BBC Radio 2 hosts Jo Whiley and Rylan, The Allergies are out to provide the soundtrack to your summer with 'Say The Word'. The Bristol duo of Rackabeat and DJ Moneyshot continue their patent blend of fat laced hip-hop and funk for the hip bone, ready and waiting to tear the ring pull off so the party can flood out.

In succession to 'As We Do Our Thing', 'Push On' and 'Steal The Show' ("An action-packed funk workout that delivers dancefloor A-bombs time and time again" – Clash magazine), 'Say The Word' packs a killer punch of chunky breaks, finger licking throwdowns and soft-shoe steppers to ensure the boogie will never leave your body. The Allergies' latest dancefloor crusade lines up serial collaborator Andy Cooper of Ugly Duckling (now officially seeking official Allergies citizenship, and reaching a new astral plain on 'I Just Got That Feeling'); the honey-dipped, no-nonsense soul of Marietta Smith, of Smith and The Honey Badgers; Dynamite MC holding down the uber true skool cool of 'Hot Sensation'; and the funster Mardi Gras free for all involving The Cuban Brothers that will definitely 'Let Them Know'.

A fixture on Jalapeno Records since 2015, The Allergies all-in party performance has gained Album of the Day status on 6 Music, become a bestseller on the iTunes and Juno hip-hop album charts, and received Tune of the Month gongs in Mixmag. The Allergies have also stopped by shows on Radio 2 with Dermot O'Leary and Radio 4 with Clive Anderson, and headlined the BBC 6 Music Festival in their native Bristol; all in addition to an ever energetic European itinerary, and teaming with Dr Syntax (whose dulcet tones are back to affirm 'I'm On It'), Izo FitzRoy and Uncle Frank of the group, the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

In tandem with 'Felony' flying across springtime airwaves, Rackabeat and Moneyshot helmed a triumphant Trunk of Funk mix for Craig Charles' celebrated Funk and Soul show in April. It got pulses racing, as per usual, and whet the listeners' appetites for album number four. When it drops, trust us, 'Say The Word' will be on everyone's lips.

TRIBEQA - Experiment Remixes

On this new opus, the music of Tribeqa is tinted with new Experiments.
The balafon and the acoustic guitar are next to the turntables and the electronic loops of the remixers PARRAD (ATOM from C2C), SCRATCH BANDITS CREW (Chinese Man Records), SORG (new selection of Printemps de Bourges), BLANKA (La Fine Equipe),
LAWKYZ, DAWATILE, STRAYBIRD and more… offering a new sensory journey, a powerful, modern and innovative groove that does not turn its back on traditions.

VARIOUS - The French Evolution

Trad Vibe records started in Paris in 2005 when two friends and open minded musicians decided to set up a label that would mainly focus on vinyl releases. In times when Serato and other midi controllers dominated the dj booths and when vinyl record sales were experiencing a major downturn, this endevour did not look like an easy bet . "Moar's Remixes", the label's first release allowed Trad Vibe to set foot in the business and to meet people like Grandmaster Dee Nasty, Cortex (Alain Mion), Raashan Ahmad, The Audible Doctor (NYC) amongst many others which resulted in fruitful collaborations."
Ten years and over thirty vinyl releases later we are poud to present you with this compilation that includes unreleased tracks and remixes by Dj Cam, 20syl (C2C/Hocus Pocus), Venice Beach, Lord Funk, Blanka (La fine Equipe / Juke Box Champions) as well as brand new tracks by artists we like among which LS Brigandes (NYC) feat Insight, Moar & Elodie Rama, Dj Suspect & Doc TMK, King Most (San Francisco) and Madjir."

Evolution is our main target and we hope that you will enjoy our new projects as much as we do."

After teasing its release at SXSW recently, Kaytranada presents his highly anticipated debut album '99.9%' via XL Recordings. The album finds the Haitian born, Montreal raised producer delivering on the promise of his early self-released EPs and remixes. Since the age of fourteen, when he first began to DJ and when his brother introduced him to music production software, his output has been relentless. He explains, after he showed me the basics, from that day on I couldn't stop making beats,' pumping out a handful of tracks per day for the next couple of years.

Rag N Bone Man - Put That Soul On Me

Repress coming!

High Focus Records is proud to present 'Put That Soul On Me' a brand new 3 track offering from arguably one of the best voices to emerge from these shores in recent years : Rag N Bone Man.
Since having been introduced to the world via High Focus Records in early 2013, Rag N Bone Man's career has flourished in an incredible way and it has become a widely known fact that, as cliche as it may sound, he is the next big thing. From gathering attention from the likes of tastemakers Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank, Mistajam & getting daytime radio play on BBC Radio 1 among others to working with Hip Hop legend DJ Premier and touring all over the country with chart toppers Bastille, it is a proven fact that Rag N Bone Man's voice has the power to touch the hearts of millions no matter what genre of music you are into. With such a universally recognised talent, its going to be hard for nay sayers to deny the infectious flute grooves of 'Put That Soul On Me' or the slow pounding bass of 'Across The Sky'.
Dirty Dike, normally known for his outlandish lyrics and larger than life provocative character takes the back seat on this release, allowing his signature crunchy production to do the talking. Dirty Dike's instrumentals provide the perfect back drop for the smooth rumblings of Rag N Bone Man, the pair complement each other perfectly as the beat and the voice are just as heavy as one another, both putting on a fantastic display of skill and raw talent which has been synonymous with all High Focus Releases.
The title track, 'Put That Soul On Me' is a catchy celebration song, a festive underground tune praising 'that neat sweet soul' whilst denigrating those 'wack ass drums and played out synths' over swirling flutes. Following the festivities we have 'Across The Sky', a bass heavy downtempo number which explores the side effects of different drugs, upon which our protagonist asks for a helping hand before the heart wrenching saxophone kicks in. High Focus Records fans will be pleased to see that the infamous Rag N Bone Man 'exclusive Bars' from the HFTV channel is finally seeing an official release. 'My Business', which set the internet on fire upon its release on the channel, getting retweeted by the likes of super producers DJ Premier and 9th Wonder, is the third track on this project and features a guest verse from Contact Play legend Ronnie Bosh. With these three unmissable tracks on one piece of wax, The 'Put That Soul On Me' 12'' is going to be the soundtrack to your summer.

Boora & Mr. Robberhood - Soviet Aesthetics Vol.1

Boora & Mr. Robberhood (the latter is one of 3 members of KOVSH), out of Soviet Russia, release their first joint project, Soviet Aesthetics Vol.1. The title derived from the idea of conveying the Soviet art form on vinyl, using only soviet samples and synthesizers to present the new Russian-style, Golden Era 90's-influenced, instru-mental hip hop.

The initial cover concept was slightly different to how it materialised, quite plain and simple; with the traditional Soviet white and black colour scheme and a cover photo taken by Volodya Kurashev, a Soviet sculptor at the exhibition for Eugene Vucetic. The back cover is a picture of the duo 'cooking up heat' in the kitchen.

The duo are set to release volumes 2, 3 and maybe 4 in the future.

Angel Haze and The House of Ladosha, when his runaway hit single “Ima Read” paved the way for his distinctive genre-defiant sound.

'LESS IS MOOR', the debut album due out March 20, announces a deeper look into his sonic universe. Sexually charged and abrasive,
the collection is a bold, sonic experiment that meshes industrial hip-hop with drum ‘n’ bass and unidentifiable sonic territory.
