It's fair to say Malta's Sound Synthesis is associated with spacey, acid-flecked electro. But here, on his first album for Gated, a deep vein of old-school influenced breaks comes to the fore.

The infectious acid lines are ever-present - the hands-in-the-air breakdowns, the rolling basslines - but this is a different side to Keith Farrugia's prolific output that brings in influences from ambient to downtempo to bassbin-worrying bangers.

Take opener Ambient Talk, which kicks into life with skittish drums, or the woozy vocal-led All Night, which makes sharp use of the Amen break, as does album highlight 90s Chords.

Yes there are classic Sound Synthesis melodies throughout these nine tracks, but there's also a darker side, exemplified by the aptly-named 140BPMadness, which showcases Farrugia at his most ferocious.

The lyrics represent a desire from an entity who wants to know the deal about the deepest wishes and ever growing curiosity of mankind and their di­erent proles, and with such statement the entity wants to feel what are we made of and shows to the audience if they really understand what scientic evolution means for their own, the human race, with all the pros and cons, an always double-sided sword taking the light as a pure and indomable source of energy. Similar as it is the case with us, Mind Against also select their output very carefully and this also reflects in their DJ sets that can be long and challenging at times. Like their sets also their discography speaks for itself; with a variety of originals, remixes and collaborations, that are not bound to one genre, Alex and Freddie already left a mark in the more melodic realm of techno and house and are continuing to do so in full force. We are happy to have them on board and it is great to see that their interpretation of our 'Home' is so well received.

Hathor, a sky deity who represented music, dance, joy, love, sexuality, and maternal care in her benevolence, was a skilled traveler between worlds, known for accompanying souls into the afterlife. Bes, meanwhile, was famed for his prowess in watching after children, killing snakes, and aiding women in labour by fighting off evil spirits.

Four more lively, lovely electro offerings from Plant 43, the second in a limited edition series of EPs focussed on tracks written over the course of the winter of 2022/23. Opener 'Submolecular Shifting' is bright and bubbly, joining the dots between Kraftwerk and Model 500, while 'Eccentric Elliptical Orbit' follows on slower and more grandiose, echoing early New Order's icy cool synth sounds. 'Encased' has a more otherworldly Aphex-like feel, although the juddering, on-off bass keeps it plugged into the dancefloor. 'The Forgotten Storm' closes proceedings, more low key again and graced with ethereal, adding angelic choirs. Energised enough and streamlined enough to be good dancefloor gear, but expertly executed and, as ever, brimming with enough personality to be a decent home listen as well.

In 2021, Australia’s favorite psychedelic sons made waves by enlisting turntable hero DJ Shadow for an epic, block-rocking remix and hilarious accompanying video. Now, that collaboration is finally seeing release on vinyl.

Dropping November 25th at 2pm GMT worldwide, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard’s “Black Hot Soup (DJ Shadow ‘My Own Reality’ Re-Write) vinyl edition is a limited, translucent 12” single with red, blue & yellow splatter. Strictly limited to 2,000 copies, the platter is being made available online at both artist websites, as well as very select retail outlets via Above Board Distribution.

If your underage, any arcade hall would do, too. Take „Trans Global Ltd“ for instance. Like an Italo disco steamroller, it’s as play- as it is powerful. „Reality 2“ might be the pick of the litter. A neuromantic dance floor gets swiped with a euphoric melancholy that could be the tears of joy that symbolize a bygone era or a better tomorrow. Enough with the poetry. A quintet of tracks that are as athletic, graceful and witty as possible. Or to quote Robert Palmer: simply irresistible.

"MDQ is named after the airport code of Mar Del Plata in Argentina," says Guy. "I played there with John Digweed earlier this year at MUTE. It's a party on the beach and, for me, was the best I've been to in my life and not just as a DJ." MDQ beautifully recreates and projects the warmth of the sun, uplifting vibes and postive energy that Guy felt on the sand that day. Its melodic charm and passionate delivery lifts the listener, transporting them to that most southern of shores.
Diagonal, on the flip, was born more out of necessity. "I needed something with a transitional feel for my sets. A track that would allow me to segue to the next part, up the tempo and deliver a more groovy and seductive magic." Another delicious brace from the Lost & Found boss and a perfect selection to soundtrack the new year.
