The Misadventures Of A Middleman is the new album from Essa. Despite being a firm fixture in the UK rap scene for over a decade, this will be Essa's first full-length since 2006's 'Grown Man Business' album with DJ Mr Thing. Early releases 'Liquid Love', 'City Breaks' and 'Dancing Shoes' (under former name Yungun) established him as one of the UK's most insightful MCs. Collabs with Guru (Gang Starr/Jazzmatazz) and praise from Nas and Mark Ronson followed. All of this whilst pursuing a parallel career as an entertainment lawyer.

The collision of these two worlds, plus his mixed race heritage, are the inspiration for the new album and the track 'The Middle Man'. This vinyl only release features a remix by label-mate and producer of the moment Tall Black Guy, adding his trademark soulful hip hop sound to Essa's on-point rhymes.

The Betty Ford Boys are ready to retox! "Retox" is the second album by the Austro-German producer super group consisting of Suff Daddy, Dexter and Brenk Sinatra. The album was recorded at The Fisherhaus, a small timber cottage somewhere in Bavaria earlier this year. The Betty Ford Boys moved their home-studios from Berlin, Stuttgart and Vienna into the small shack and let loose. If you compare "Retox" to the 21st century G-Funk of their debut album "Leaders Of The Brew School", one can say that the Betty Ford Boys are reporting from the dark side of the moon this time. Low-tuned and bass-heavy stoner beats are sitting next to moog-driven 808 workouts and you never know what's comig next. If "Retox" follows a formula then the formula is that there is no formula. "Retox" is simply one of the most - if not the most - complete instrumental hip-hop albums of 2014. Period!

Dre' LP. This instalment offers a rework of Dre's notorious 'Let Me Ride' and the timeless 'Still D.R.E'.

The A-Side leads with 'Let Me Ride (feat. Jimetta Rose)' (despite being labelled as Still DRE..) This uplifting arrangement reimagines one of the closest tracks to

Sly5thAve's heart from Dr. Dre's iconic 'The Chronic' album. He explains: 'One of my favorite things about arranging hip-hop/pop music for an orchestra is

the opportunity to build up and take the composition through different worlds that are not completely unrelated but also not readily apparent.' Under his direction,

the undeniably smooth arrangements amplify the lessons in Dre's music which are held at their core. The B-Side holds 'Still D.R.E', Sly5thAve co-opts the timeless hook originally

released on Dr. Dre's '2001' album, amping up the score with guitars, symphonic cymbals and vibrant horn parts. Praising the original, he explains: 'The piano

riff and the production are undeniable'. Sly5thAve strives to find a balance between Dr. Dre's vison and his own interpretation, taking care to fine tune

the musical phrasing his approach pioneers a fresh way to shape the score. 'The challenge on this arrangement was pulling it into a new world that added

Keepers of the Funk is the second record by the Newark hip-hop trio Lords of the Underground. The variety of the beats and the energy of the different rappers can be felt in the gritty, rock-solid and low-end groove tracks. Influences of funk music increased and their rap flows are still worthwhile to listen to. Whereas their debut was somewhat harder and grittier this is a more structured recording. Deep hard beats, smooth basslines and horn samples are mixed to perfection on the 13-track record.

Lords of the Underground consists of MCs Mr. Funke, DoItAll Dupré met DJ Lord Jazz. They recorded a couple of remarkable albums during the 1990s.

I was then able to create a broader view of the scene and show JMJ floating above the graveyard and Run and DMC still in the same position on the fence. Acrylic Snail' is the fifth album from Dirty Dike. Following a three-year hiatus since his last solo
outing 'Sucking On Prawns In The Moonlight' and after a ream of production work for the likes of
Rag 'n' Bone Man ('Put That Soul On Me'), Ocean Wisdom ('Chaos 93') and Lee Scott ('Butter
Fly') during that time, Dike is back with a brand new 14-track album; his most personal release
to date and a body of work that shines a full-beam-floodlight on his formative years, but
moreover, the dreamlike transition between then and now.
Firmly anchored in a chapter of the UK underground before everything went to shit, situated a
couple behind this current grizzly chapter, the songs bounce off the walls of abandoned
industrial estates and whoosh by at breakneck speeds like trains through tunnels. The album
embodies the freezing cold concrete pours, twilight toe slaps and irregularly shaped ballast
banks of the network. In short, 'Acrylic Snail' pays homage to the things Dike saw in the very
farthest reaches of night that made him who he is today.

We call them the rat pack of our beat scene. With all diversity in sound, the three producers are unified in their love for dope beats and high-proof drinks, both catered and consumed with style and expertise.

Suff Daddy, the globetrotting gin connoisseur and minimoog player with domiciles in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Sydney. He has released three solo albums and has worked with artists like Miles Bonny, Fleur Earth, Ta-ku and Elzhi. After a one year stint in Sydney, he returned to Berlin this spring.

Brenk Sinatra, the Wien-Kaisermühlen homeboy, Westcoast rap fanatic and producer of the forthcoming MC Eiht album. Last year Brenk released the critically acclaimed S3 album together with US singer Miles Bonny and has laced beats for an armada of MCs from both sides of the Atlantic.

And last but not least Dexter, the Stuttgart based trip maker and platinum producer with a day job as a pediatrician. This June Dexter released his second solo-album 'The Trip' a homage to the psychedelic rock era and one of the most innovative and genre bending hip-hop albums of 2013.

All three first met at the Hi-Hat Club, the producer series that we started a couple of years ago with the goal to push and celebrate the art of beat making. With their respective volumes 'Suff Draft' (Suff Daddy), 'The Jazz Files' (Dexter) and 'Chop Shop' (Brenk Sinatra) each of the guys put the instrumental hip-hop thing on a new and different level. None of their beats need a MC to be complete, they are full songs in their own right.

The official birth date of the Betty Ford Boys was the 2012 Beat BBQ in Cologne where Dexter, Suff and Brenk performed together for the first time. Right after the now legendary gig, that was ended by police forces Suff Daddy left for Sydney so that most the recordings for the Betty Ford Boys debut album took place in the cloud. Right after his return to Berlin, the Boys jumped on the bus and played their first club tour which finished with a gig at the Splash Festival.

On August 30th, the Betty Ford Boys release their first album 'Leaders Of The Brew School' on Melting Pot Music. The record combines the best of three worlds and has a surprisingly chilled Westcoast vibe. It's perfect summer music, it's edgy and relaxed at the same time and keeps you thirsty for more ....

Why ist eine US-amerikanische Indie-Rock-Band mit Hip-Hop- und Folk-Einflüssen aus Berkeley,
Kalifornien. Gründer, Frontmann und Songschreiber von Why ist Jonathan "Yoni" Wolf. Er nutzte den
Bandnamen erstmals 2001. Zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte er solo als Why eine EP und das Album
"Oaklandazulasylum". Erst seit der Veröffentlichung von "Elephant Eyelash" (2005) tritt Why als Gruppe auf.
Nach fünf Jahren Pause erschien mit "Moh Lhean" 2017 das sechste Studioalbum der Formation. Zwei
Monate später hatte sie ein Stelldichein im Hauptquartier von Third Man Records in Nashville. Der Auftritt des
Quartetts im legendären Blue Room wurde wie üblich direkt mitgeschnitten. "Live At Third Man Records"
enthält neun Songs, nur drei davon stammen von "Moh Lhean" - "Proactive Evolution", "One Mississippi" und
"The Barely Blur" -, die anderen von früheren Alben. Insofern darf man die LP auch als inoffizielle
Hitsammlung verstehen.

Nach 6 jähriger Abstinez nach seinem letzten Projekt (Life Is Good), meldet sich Nas diesen Sommer
mit seinem neuen Album NASIR zurück. Das Album entstammt aus der Produzentenschmiede von
Kanye West und ist ein Produkt aus der vom Produzenten ins Leben gerufenen "Wyoming Sessions".
NASIR ist das vierte Werk aus den genannten Sessions und enthält ebenso wie die Vorgänger

Soul Jazz Records' new Boombox 3 continues their story of the first rap records to be put onto vinyl. It is a jam-packed collection of original independent 'old-school' hip-hop, created with just one
thing in mind - to get this party jumping! After the explosion of hip hop in the parks and clubs of The Bronx in the mid-1970s, it was in Harlem where the first rap records emerged at the end of 1979 - an avalanche of superb rap tracks released on small independent labels all trying to capitalise on the success of 'Rappers Delight.' Like hip hop culture itself, these first rap singles are the product of their own unique set of aesthetics - exciting and innovative rap performed with Bronx block party B-Boy funk breaks, disco jams and Jamaican sound system culture. The extensive sleevenotes discuss hip-hop's trajectory from the first wave of Bronx creativity - the legendary DJs Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa - through to its arrival in Harlem via the entrepreneurism ofld-school´African-American rhythm and blues producers and
