House Vinyl New Releases - News

Poker Flat's Forward To The Past anthology returns in its 3rd iteration, as lean and mean as it ever was and precision-engineered to make you jack, dream and all things in between. The winning formula remains the same: task a selection of hotshot veteran and up-and-coming producers with recapturing the style and mood of early club music, paying homage to the golden years between 1985 and 1992 when Chicago House and Acid, New York House and Detroit Techno took the world and its dancefloors by storm. The result is a collection of new and exclusive tracks as addictive as the stone cold classics that influenced them - a tribute and, at the same time, the cutting edge of contemporary music production. LA-based compatriot MANIK contributes a rolling, no-frills jam that sticks to the tried and tested production values of early acid as if to say, Why mess with perfection' From his small Amsterdam studio crammed with classic drum machines and synths, Wouter de Moor serves up 'Bon Voyage', a simmering analogue acid jam bedecked with snickering percussive flourishes and long, sustained chords for that blue-tinged Detroit vibe. Pavel Iudin, meanwhile, adds jazzy Rhodes inflections and whistling birdsong to a similarly bubbling groove. Veteran DJ Aakmael adopts the classic Juno bass sound to pay homage to the godfather of deep, Larry Heard, for an exercise in immersive repetition.

RAWAX IS PROUD TO WELCOME MR. K-ALEXI SHELBY TO THE FAMILY!
Mr. K Alexi Shelby
Like a moth drawn to a flame, there is something utterly infectious about the music of Mr.K Alexi Shelby, better known as K-Alexi one of the founding fathers of house music direct from his home city of Chicago. Since the late 1980s, he has pioneered the true house sound, leading to a DH and production career spanning over 20 years, including collaborations with artists ranging from The Pet Shop Boys to Derrick May and from Larry Heard and Felix da Housecat to Will Smith, as well as gigs across the globe.
An impressionable young teenager, Mr.K Alexi Shelby developed friendships with Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy whilst attending seminal venues like The Warehouse and The Music Box in the mid 1980s. Being here at this embryonic stage of dance music culture, there were no rules or precedents, so K Alexi drew on a rich musical heritage that had seen him grow up in the 70s and 80s listening to Stevie Wonder, Prince, Curtis Mayfield and David Huff. Those roots continue to influence his music to this day.
It was under the moniker Risque III that Essence Of A Dream was released in 1987, firmly establishing the name of Mr.K Alexi Shelby amongst the most prominent of all house producers at the time. Moreover, those early tracks are still recognized to be the quintessential Chicago house sound. The rumbling and dark bass, smooth strings, incredible percussion and the spoken word poetic and erotic lyrical flow became the trademark for classic Chicago house and the template for everything else that followed. To reiterate, there was no template before this. This was the beginning.
This initial success has lead to Mr.K Alexi Shelby working with the leading names across the electronic music world and beyond. Collaborations and remixes for Chicago peers like Mike Dunn, Mr. Lee and Marshall Jefferson merely served as the springboard for Alexi to work with the best in the electronic scene, from Derrick May to Paul Johnson ,Ron Trent Dave Angel to Felix ad House Kat. Furthermore, his talents have also lead to him working with The Pet Shop Boys and Will Smith.
On top of this, his tracks have appeared on compilations by artists varying from Laurent Garnier to DJ Hell, who used It's Me 2010 contribution to the Body Language series for Get Physical Music. Produced under the Club M.C.M. moniker, the 1991 EP It's Me/Club M.C.M. has been a frequent selection for compilations for 20 years and is rightly regarded as a true underground techno classic.

Finger Prince recordings debut with the ‘Make U Feel Project’

A four tracker with the same assignment handed to four artists including some of the original Music For Freaks and Classic Music Company recording artists.

The first release is a close-knit affair with Lil’Mark handing out the project to who he regards as three close family members. No brief was given with the material so that all versions were unique. No spoilers either.

First up on side A, Mark provides a true groove with the swing he’s renowned for. Chords, catchy muting, stabs of vocal and a heavy rolling bassline sets the scene. Straight up house.

Track 2 is from Pale People who takes a great dub approach looping the bass and keys beneath the Vox adding tight percussion reminiscent of his Phonic Crunch collab’s with Mark. After a long hiatus it's great to have him back.

Side B Track 1 comes from Rob Mello doing his ’No Ears’ spectacular. It’s the Classic No Ears sound making great use of original elements and sounding fantastic as always.

Belgium’s export to Ibiza Bart Ricardo gets the final say on track 2. Taking it deeper Bart brings stretched chords into focus over a HEAVY kick and big bottom end. This track has a relentless groove with some well executed breaks.

RAWAX proudly welcomes Mr. Tevo Howard to the Family! We're very happy to present you the Beautiful Grainville - boss on CHIWAX!

Smart Bar resident and Chicago champion Garrett David presents his second release in the Spanish label MATE. He has been rolling out sumptuous deep house with a techno edge for many years, and according to his words this is possibly his most representative ep. Three gems that will shine on the dance floor.

Chicago legends Robert Armani & Paul Johnson's seminal Traxmen project is finally getting the reissue treatment from Anotherday.

Warning these trax are RAW. Relentless Chicago Techno and Ghetto House pressed as they were meant to sound 4 acidic, hissing drum machine workouts by two of the originators.

Part 3 of 3

A collaborative melting-pot takes the form of a luminous, candy-coated rhapsody

Drivetrain (Detroit, USA) The Greatest (Hard Times Mix)
taking flavorful elements from his deep house original, this is a killer dose of thick-set, granular house-meets-techno; blissfully wrapped in plush, woozy, jazz-flecked overtones.

Motomitsu (Paris, FRANCE) - Bless
perfectly appointed, synthetic strings rise and fall; back-dropping deep, purling bass, anesthetic keys and distant, wraithlike vocals drifting in and out of view.

Jani Ho (MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA) - Mono Charge
club weaponry delivering an exhilarating, full-throttle ride through a menagerie of ever-shifting layers, which themselves are in a constant state of leg-sweeping flux.

Owen Ni (ATHENS, USA) - Another Sunny Afternoon
a stratospheric, psyched-out house heater, fired up of aerial synthesizers, whisking off to beatific and unearthly sonic euphoria.

As Endian he has forged himself a very credible reputation as an adept creator of underground dance music. These four offerings will further advance his credentials.

With its sonic roots nicely split between Chicago, Detroit, London and Manchester this ep has a nice balance between old and new. There are 3 tracks he has produced individually and a forth he did with label bossTrevino. Enjoy...

Before relocating to NYC in 2020, Pontchartrain invited colleague Javonntte over to record several songs together at Pontch’s east-side Detroit studio.

The collaboration yielded several songs that blend Pontch’s studio prowess and dramatic sound, with Javonntte’s wide ranging performance skill, and soulful style. “Cirrus”, as the name suggests, is a deeper cloudy synth-heavy house track, previously selected by DJ Holographic for release on Carl Craig’s Detroit Love vol 6 compilation, but get’s an updated mix & master, as well as a seriously heavy remix by fellow motor city deep house honcho, Delano Smith.

“Keep Dancing” features additional vocals by Javonntte in a hard hitting and highly playable “Detroit” version, as well as a completely different version re-mixed and produced in Pontch’s Harlem studio.

Hot Natured and Ali Love are set to release one of the most hotly anticipated singles of the year, ‘Benediction’ on 29th October through Hot Creations.

Hot Natured’s last single ‘Forward Motion’ was the seductive summer anthem of 2011. Since then the founding members of Hot Natured, Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, have been joined by Ali Love and Luca C (from the duo Infinity Ink). The quartet has been locked away in writing sessions in Los Angeles, London and Ibiza, with an album planned for spring 2013.

‘Benediction’ is the first track to emerge from this album but its seeds were first sewn almost 10 year ago when Ali first thought of the main chords and concept. Today that idea has germinated into Hot Natured’s lead single. It features vocalist Ali Love’s trademark smooth and infectious tones, driven by melodic keys and that trademark deep, haunting bounce. ‘Benediction’ showcases Hot Natured’s collective song writing and top-of-their-game production skills to full, potent effect.

First heard on Jamie and Seth Troxler’s recent takeover for Pete Tong on Radio 1 and played at Hot Creations’ night Paradise at DC10 in Ibiza all summer, ‘Benediction’ is an irresistible and infectious crossover hit. It demonstrates exactly why Hot Natured and their Hot Creations label have become the go-to names for unrivalled disco-tinged, addictive house music with ‘quality’ stamped all over it. Also featured here are a blowout dub of ‘Benediction’ and a stupendous remix of ‘Forward Motion by MK… what a package!!

Anyone familiar with the work of HDSN has seen him making big waves leading the line so brilliantly for his own imprint NUTHIN BUT A SOUL THING over the course of it´s twelve physical releases. If you heard his most recent EP ‘Break Ups 2 Make Ups”’ or the outstanding debut release "We Must Protect This House” on his new sub-label which received overwhelming response from the likes of Pete Tong to Shadow Child, Cinthie and many more of the scene´s true heroes you will know he is an artist unconfined to the restraints of the norm and he displays this once again on his new record “For My People”. NBASTWAX013 marks a return to HDSN´s roots with a new approach towards modern house music and owes a debt to the classic sound from New York, Chicago and Detroit. The title track “For My People" opens the release, encapsulating the spirit of classic deep house with an impressive attention to detail and insistent movement. Its a future deep house anthem featuring a deeply effective piano hook over a powerful House backdrop with a a rib shaking sub bass, utilizing soaring 303’s and soulful sprinkling vocals - stripped back House at it´s finest. Next up is “Werk Ya Body” which applies reverb soaked piano chords, sweeping synth shots and effortlessly shuffling drum programming that maintains captivation for the listener throughout. On the flip is “Life Is Good” that creates a beautifully flowing dynamism combining a positive piano hook with pounding drums & unfaded strings to maximum effect setting the mood for an uplifting house thomper. Closing the release with “Take Care” which is a smooth, dubbed out affair that demonstrates plenty of restraint yet really locks you into it´s hypnotic groove with the distant pulsating synth line which forges the way before an energetic piano and powerful vocals reset the system. Another absolute belter ready to tear down any dance floor. All four tracks are impeccably produced and perfect for the upcoming season. A dance floor essential, unraveling and built to work the late night hours and beyond in every other occasion. Grab your copy #datsoulthang
