Lokiboi - Late Reaction Ep

Following on from the success of Artifacts The Way It Do/We Trapped, the
somethinksounds cartel rolls on picking up even more steam this time calling on the
untapped talents of Lokiboi who serve up the insatiable Late Reaction EP which features
a collaboration with Love Fever darling Citizen. Having appeared previously on Kolour
Recordings as Klic (aka Medlar) & Lokiboi, this is his first solo appearance and his first
opportunity to demonstrate his unbelievable studio skills.
Up first Late Reaction rattles into our consciousness; constantly shifting this one never
lets up for moment and expert drum programming techniques ensure it has total control
over the listeners emotions throughout.
Intensity levels drop for the intro of Help Yourself as slower kick drums pulsate and
shuffling percussion rolls along as though it is being heard from the room next door.
Atmospheric pads path the way for incredible smooth garage beats to roll along with
snapping snares and chopped vocals giving the track direction.
Love Saves The Day invites man of the moment Citizen to get in on the action instantly
bringing his brand of reverbed, garage-house soundscapes which is much complemented
by the percussive arrangements of Lokiboi. Excellent vocals and soaring pads take the
whole thing to a match made in dancefloor paradise.
Rounding off this superb release we have Keep On Loving Me Dry which builds and
builds to a dramatic climax before descending into possibly the biggest breakdown on the
EP.
All Killers, No Fillers.

Luke Solomon - Timelines

Timelines' is the new LP from British house producer Luke Solomon and it will be released via his and Derrick Carter's Classic imprint in May in a package that features the LP, a selection of remixes and a mixed bonus version.
Luke Solomon's influence on house music has been strongly felt for many years. As a DJ and promoter he pioneered mid-week London clubbing with his legendary Space night alongside the late, great Kenny Hawkes. As a producer he has constantly delivered original, often idiosyncratic and always unique house music (and beyond) for an enviable list of imprints. As an A&R he has helped develop many a career (Tiefschwarz, Freeform 5 and Isolee to name but a few) with The Classic Music Company and continues to do so with Classic and his new role as one of Defected's A&R team.

'Timelines is an album that I have been making and remaking over the last 6 years.

I started work on it off of the back of The Difference Engine (Rekids), my last LP under my own name. The idea was to make the album part of a trilogy, this one being representative of my more Balearic roots. The original version that was completed fell on deaf ears quite considerably and it became a bit of a sticking point for me.
I decided to put it to one side and in the process started working on some other music, which in turn, helped me stumble across a new sound and production technique. The initial idea was to work on a series of songs that represented significant points in my life, but lyrically and musically. It then became more relevant to the 6 years of writing and producing the album. A lot of shit happened, and I was able to pour it into finally completing the album. I then decided to keep the album guarded and close as it had become that personal. I didn't want the album to be effected by opinions of those that were too close to me and the music.
What I ended up with is something that has come straight from the heart. Made possible by joining forces with a whole stack of talented musicians and singers over the last 6 years.'
Luke Solomon
Timelines', even the incredibly humble and self-effacing Solomon would Agree, is his best work to date. Featuring vocal contributions from Jon Marsh, Natalie Broomes, Terry Grant and Tiger Tiger, as well as musicianship from Arthur Jeffes (various keys), Andy Neil (guitar and bass), Martin Radford (strings), Sammy Bishai (Violins) , Chris Storr (Horns), Steve Parry (Horns), Anu Pilai (Guitar/bass), Tom Bailey (Guitar) and Danny Harrison (Drums), 'Timelines' is so much more than the usual house music album, it's one man deftly controlling and mastering his very own musical chaos.
Luke Solomon's 'Timelines' is released on Classic mid-May 2013.

Out And About

Laid-back but steady grooving funkiness, with nocturnal counterparts delivered by Kyodai and Opolopo.
After his acclaimed split single with KINK on Hamburg's Liebe Detail, Barcelona-based Pablo Sánchez lifts his foot off the pedal and shifts to cruising mode with the laid-back but steady grooving 'Out And About'. A funky rhythm section switching between shuffle and go-go, wah-wah guitars, a pinch of brass, nuff percussion, and fellow producer Ezel on the organ. Can you say 'summertime'
Killer remix action on this one: Berlin-based brothers Kyodai provide some delicious peak-time fun adding vocal snippets, a prominent piano, a rather impatient 4/4 beat and a people-go-crazy-on-the-dance-floor style long drum break. Swedish boy wonder Opolopo steps up the pace as well with a funked-up and slightly spacey house rework (nod to Parliament Funkadelic included).

Jay Shepheard / Martin Dawson / Matthew Burton - Cut A Zee Remix Ep

Hot on the heels of Jay Shepheard's well received debut album 'Home & Garden,' Retrofit rolls on by welcoming a pair of duos to the label: the Berlin/Hamburg connection known as Session Victim, and a couple of hotly tipped London boys called Casino Times.
First up, Session Victim takes on Jay Shepheard and Matthew Burton's 'Liberal Z' from Retrofit #5. They take full advantage of the original's plucked bassline, and then stack it with their trademark live and swinging percussion. Once a cheerful guitar and warm chords join the mix, they reveal a number that will be ripe for the coming months of summer rooftops and Croatian beachside sunsets.
On the flipside, Casino Times reworks one of the label's most popular tracks, Jay Shepheard and Martin Dawson's B-side killer 'Cut A Hole' from Retrofit #9. Following up stellar appear- ances on UK imprints Wolf Music and Needwant, the pair ride the thick vocoded vox down into a much deeper territory of lush pads and spacey stabs, sure to soundtrack many late nights and early mornings.

Various - 100% Gomma By Jacques Renault (mix Sampler)

New York House maestro JACQUES RENAULT is a old friend of the Gomma boys. Playing a lot of the German label's releases. While having a few bottles of fine red wine at a party in Rome recently with Gomma's Mr. Munk - they had this idea to make a special mix collage of old and new Gomma tracks. Showing the old Gomma 12inches, that were so ahead of it's time when they came out and still sound fresh. Mixing it with the new, upcoming Gomma stuff.
Jacques Renault took 15 tracks. Edited them and created this 80 minutes non stop Gomma voyage. Here's the A 4-track vinyl sampler with a collection of out-of-print and never released tracks including Mercury's "Man", the classic Chicken Lips remix for Headman's "It Rough" and two exclusive Jacques Renault cuts that have never been released on vinyl.

Leipzig turns up the filter once again: Time for a new vinyl-only release on OR*S.
Three tracks literally made for the nocturnal goings-on on the local dancefloors.
On the one hand there is newcomer Scherbe, recently successful on Dresden label Uncanny Valley.
With his track 'Big Dipperz' he mainly focuses on drums, bucking the trend and escaping from tedious soundscapes.
By contrast, Krink, the young hit machine from the Audiolith entourage, has the synthies glow with his piece For You.
Third in this league is RJ who comes wheeling round the corner with a 100-bpm disco track.
The slickly fielded vocals casually sprinkled with a German accent of 'Fresh Blaize' make Daft Punk look like a support band.
The release is rounded off with one out of three artist offset prints by Nora Heinisch, Felix Schneeweiß, and Florian Seidel.

Shit Robot Feat Jenr - Feels Real

06.05.2013

The Hi-NRG history of Luke Jenner's hometown San Francisco is freshly revived for Shit Robot's cheekily-titled "Feels Real," on which Jenner plays the slinky Sylvester to Marcus Lambkin's Patrick Cowley wizardry. Meaty and a bit menacing, Jenner asserts "I think you'll always want my love" over washes of organ. It all builds to an ecstatic, shouted peak before the whirligig synths implode under the weight of Jenner's pure falsetto. For the remix, Luke Solomon scrapes off some gloss and opens synthetic space around the ghosts of a guitar lick, while extending the blissful vocal peak over analog bombast and tasteful strands of acid.

Name In Lights - Naughty

We're happy to welcome new Brooklyn basedlabel FREE ASSOCIATION to the All Ears fold
"The importance of Free Association is that the members speak for themselves, rather than repeating the ideas of others; they work through their own material, rather than parroting anothers."
Nothing truer could be said of Stockholm trio Name In Lights.
On "Naughty", the debut release for Brooklyn-based Free Association, chopped soul vocals bask in the glow of Detroit-styled synths. Underpinning it all is the kind of low slung machine funk a certain Mr. Weatherall is known to gravitate towards. No surprise, considering the legend himself licensed Name In Lights' "Ur Oskunni" for his Masterpiece compilation last year.
Meanwhile, across town, Studio Barnhus doyen Axel Boman continues to chart his own musical path.
His rub of "Naughty" explores a warm and measured approach that has already found favor with his heroes, Dixon and Koze. While Boman's gaze is directed towards the heavens, Bushwick newcomer Cameo Culture has his sights set squarely on the floor. A distinctive bounce permeates the work of this budding house producer, who brings an undeniable disco swagger to his remix.

Nobody Stop Me

FINA
06.05.2013

FINA Record pushes forward this May with a phenomenal five-track package, from the ever on-point Brit producer DFRNT.
DFRNT aka Alex Cowles, has put out a string of critically acclaimed releases via his own Echodub, and London's, On The Edge imprint, since his arrival on the scene in 2008, had his track 'Headspace' remixed by Scuba which featured on the producer's Sub:Stance mix CD for Ostgut Ton, and maintained a consistently forward-thinking approach to electronic music throughout this. Here he joins 2020 Vision offshoot FINA Records, alongside the likes of Move D, Leif and Roberto Rodriguez.
The release opens with title track 'Nobody Stop Me feat Caye Slaymaker', an emotive slice of piano-laden house music. Bulbous, subby bass tones meander around shuffling drums and emotive vocal lines that build for several minutes before a gritty saw wave hook is introduced, upping the energy and adding a direct, driving feel to the cut. 'Sugar Free' follows on next, embracing a similar aesthetic to the preceding track, taking beautiful, organic elements and tightly blending them with gritty electronics, Cowles fuses bright string melodies, cosseting pads and crunchy drums with heavily manipulated vocals chops to once again create something intelligent and brilliantly crafted.
Entering the latter half of the release we have 'Start Changing Tempo', takings things deep with a bright chord progression, subtle, chiming marimba style percussion and a cavernous atmosphere achieved through echoing vocal murmurs and off-kilter reverberated drums. 'Frisky Disco' follows, and as the name would suggest, veers things into an eighties disco influenced direction, dropping the tempo with a slo-mo beat, warbling Rhodes, dubbed out guitar and brass licks and R&B vocal samples, creating a fantastic contrast against the previous cuts. Finally to close things Cowles turns in 'The Way You Look At Me', the perfect way to wind things down, with heartwarming piano melodies and call and response style vocals.
This is yet another intelligent, imaginative release from FINA and a stellar addition to the catalogue, DFRNT's 'Nobody Stop Me' EP is out on FINA Records 6th May 2013.
