Amir Alexander's 2nd full LP lands, this time on the powerhouse of Just Jack Recordings - providing a journey through techno, acid and house.

From the space-age melodies and overdriven synths of "Lemmings Off A Cliff!", to the pounding acid & infamous "My House" vocal on"In The Beginning!", the LP starts with a bang. Halfway through the broken beat and blippy "Rude Boy!" stands out, along with the big room gospel house gold of "Blessed Are The Meek!".
"Weep Not!" takes it full circle - matching a similar distorted bass to the opener with some exquisite synth work. No wonder all the titles have exclamation marks - this is 8 tracks of serious tackle!

Boothroyd releases a remix 12" from debut album on Fnord Communications the London / LA based label recently responsible for unearthing post-punk band Shame. Cutting his teeth in 2014 with debut EP Idle Hours on revered NY electronic imprint Triangle Records, and more recently contributing to critically acclaimed Grime LP's on 1-800-DINOSAUR (Trim) and Rinse (Maxta), Boothroyd reappears in 2018 with 'Pure Country' a typically idiosyncratic and forward thinking debut album.

Part 1 and Part 2 are pure future sound of retro 80's, Calypso Signal a real syncopated booty shake.

Initially paying tribute to the analogue absurdity, sonic diversity and sheer imagination of the early 90s dance music landscape, Future Four returns after a hiatus of several years, pushing into new eras, machines and ideals with 'Connection'. Initially a solo project of Andy Meecham, the brains behind Emperor Machine, Chicken Lips, and Bizarre Inc., 'Connection' is the first Future Four release to feature the contribution of Erol Alkan as a permanent member, and is a coupled with a remix from I:Cube.

A veritable powerhouse of synths, vintage drum machines and all man-ner of effects, 'Connection' unfolds with minimal tempo and maximum impact, as sequences of unexpected electronics gradually build from every direction, each landing with the razor sharp precision associated with their composers. Cascading synths overflow like fizzy drinks, pro-pelling the track along an electronic patchwork of FM synthesis and psy-chedelia.

On the remix, I:Cube takes the unpredictable rhythm of 'Connection' and coaxes it's versatile, multiple elements into a timeless slice of boogie house. Nurturing the outsider Casio feel of the track under a musical heat-lamp, the always forward-thinking Frenchman emerges with a cut that could easily soundtrack both sun deck and space station.

It's almost 20 years ago that Hector left Mexico to pursue his dream of DJ-ing. On this journey, he has learnt that there is no room for complacency, and to stay sharp you need to test your skills.

'VLack' is a new imprint created by Hector for techno focused releases, that he also enjoys playing and producing, outside of those deeper more minimal grooves.

Through his years of working at Phonica Records as a young and aspiring DJ, Hector was exposed to many genres of electronic music. Many of which he had never heard before, and this was the hugely inspirational time that musically shaped
him as an artist.

For the first release on 'VLack', Hector collaborates with an artist he commends for being an unstoppable powerhouse, Nicole Moudaber.

Nicole is not only recognised as one of the most passionately followed DJ/producers in the world, but also an event promoter, record label founder and radio host.

A one-woman army, marching her muscular take on techno all over the globe having played at the world's most revered nightclub institutions as well as hosting her own brand of MoodRAW Warehouse events and MoodZONE festival stages.

Having met Nicole through Smokin' Jo, the two naturally clicked. This led to Hector producing a remix for Moudaber's 2015 collaboration EP with Skunk Anansie singer Skin. A project he admired Nicole for, and the way it sought to break the boundaries
down.

Working together, Hector and Nicole's production style gelled perfectly as they understand each other musically but respect each other's individual sound. Mixing the two producers styles together was a challenge, but one the pair relished.

Taking their time to ensure the end product was something they were both happy with.
The 'Retrosaw' EP has three dark minimal cuts representative of both Hector and Nicole Moudaber.

The first track 'Retrosaw Dub' is full of swelling subs and brooding
bass with minimal percussion.

'Retrosaw 2' sees the addition of some moody synths on top of crisp hi-hats. The last track from the EP 'Busted' brims with bubbling bass hits, distorted mechanical sounds.

Koehler opened into the hill a spacious wound and digged out ribs of gold. This is his second offering for the ESP Institute. Side A, behold a wonder! These two songs will sit you dove-like brooding on the vast abyss.

Techno, Disco, Italo, Electronics, House, Library, Cosmic and Ambient frequencies - These are the bedrocks of the Midnight Drive ethos and sound. A label shining a light on overlooked or unheralded creations and respectfully reissuing them for the contemporary audience. A label that respects and understands the connection between these disparate and sometimes forgotten forms of musical expression and celebrates them.
For the latest instalment of the Midnight Drive story we look to our own rich and fertile home city of London. Formed on the Southside of the city in the late 80's Carl Grant and Tony Gallagher's long running LA Synthesis project has given us some of the most forward looking, modern and compelling Electro and Techno over the span of the last 3 decades. 'Harmonic Disassembly / Skyline' was originally released in 1997 on the cult Evolution label and made a lot of noise with the brilliant futuristic B-boy video for 'Harmonic...' getting regular airings on MTV's Chillout Zone among others. Both tracks are sleek, cutting edge examples of electronic music that is as much inspired by Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock and Steve Reich as it is Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Jonzun Crew. Now, almost 20 years after it's original release we see a full repress of one of the jewels in the LA Synthesis crown, a truly cult record that stylistically transcends time and space and sounds every bit as groundbreaking and fresh as it did in 1997.
This is the first time 'Harmonic Disassembly / Skyline' has been reissued. This high quality repress has been made possible with the full involvement of Carl Grant and Tony Gallagher aka LA Synthesis from their personal DAT masters.

Fresh out of the OdD archives Tapes of Old 3 is enveloped an air of antiquity. Cut straight from the tape reel, A1 'Oops' is charged with reams of static percussion and low frequency oscillation. B1 'Abhorrent SNIP' captures a galactic essence where waves of bass meet synth in a beckoning symphony of creation. B2 'I'm Complete' marches in to close the EP with tight snares cutting into the undulating it's flow and grounded with smooth session of kicks. This postmodern production is pure energy in motion, constructed with an otherworldly soundscape and a purpose for mindful mysticism.

The debut EP from Seltron 400, AKA, Polish dance favourites Eltron John (Uncanny Valley / Transatlantyk) and SLG (Studio Barnhus / Step), arriving on MOST, following a recent appearance on Catz and Dogz' PETS Recordings.

Stemming from a run of well-received back-to-back sets, these close friends emerge from the studio with two imaginative slices of house and contemporary electro, alongside a jackin' bonus beats accompaniment.

Leipzig´s Zwischenwelten Crew celebrates their 9th birthday with a new V/A record and their closest artists

The seventh volume of Drumcode's annual A-Sides compilation hits with no less than 10 debuts for the label, with Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, B.Traits and Scuba's SCB project, among the collection of topline artists to release their maiden productions on the imprint.

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fuelled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others.

As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months.

Kicking off Part 6 Belgian ballista, Charlotte de Witte, makes her Drumcode debut unlocking a thick-edged club bomb in 'Remember.' The A2 sees Reset Robot land on Drumcode for the first time, having been the most released artist on Beyer's imprint Truesoul, with an exhilarating workout in the shape of 'Self Existence'

The B1 sees a welcome return for Ramiro Lopez with his infectious track, 'Delta', a full frontal, heavyweight slammer that builds and builds to a monumental peak.

Last but by no means least, techno veterans Christian Smith & John Selway unleash 'Burning Chrome', a formidable synth-laden track destined to be played on massive soundsystems, showcasing why these two producers are still two of the best in the game.

Ninetoes launches his label Head To Toe

In April 2019 Ninetoes is set to launch his new record label 'Head To Toe'. The imprint will be be releasing on vinyl and digitally.

The first release sees Ninetoes drop his single 'Miracle', a solid underground house record with a nod to a 90's NY house sound, featuring remixes from the UK's hot young talents Mason Collective and the mysterious Lemberg from Berlin.

Having released on such luminary labels as Moon Harbour, Crosstown Rebels, This and That & Avotre, he has decided to take control of his output with a label he can call home.

Initially it will be a platform for his own productions, but as the label develops other artists will be invited to contribute to his carefully curated audio brand.

Ninetoes... I've always wanted to have my own label to be able to express myself fully, and to not be constrained by other people's A&R vision. HTT will enable me to release my own music, the music I love, and music to feel from Head To Toe.'

“Welcome / to my galaxy / of snare drum samples / full of emotions”

The year is 2019, and Jan Schulte is spelling out his vision in simple terms. Within the first few of Albumsi’s hour-plus runtime, our host lays out the mat, and welcomes us to the ‘Galaxy’, just as he welcomed us to ‘Zum Paradies’ on Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World. There, he donned a Wolf Müller mask. Here it is nom de doof, Bufiman. The directive is clear: buckle up, as this trip advisor for countless left-of-the-dial dancers and deep thinkers alike is back in the hot seat.

True to his word, the first thing that hits is the drums. Across the album are samples that Bufiman has been collecting since he was a mere Bufiboy. Recordings culled from market stalls 20+ years ago and song sketches that lay dormant since 2006 get a facelift at the Wolf Müller Flanger Studio and walk into the world as finished articles. A proggy tribute to funk classic ‘Blow Your Head’ takes this updating job most directly, transporting Fred Wesley & The J.B.’s to the fringes of a Frankfurt rave with a decanter of spiked punch, doin’ the worm through a space-time wormhole as they go.

Sometimes those drums jive away steadily, and sometimes they boom and bap right under your nose (and in the middle of the LP, they are barely present at all). Live instrumentation and digitised rat-a-tat link like brothers in arms. What might Mantronix sound like if they were from North Sentinel Island instead of New York City? Albumsi could be the answer.

This is the first record Bufiman has since leaving his day job of 11 years. It is the first made after touring and exploring some of the furthermost pockets of the globe – something that left a naturally great and greatly natural impression on him. A switch was flipped, he says, once he realised he could finally paint these pictures without pressure: “For the first time in my life I suddenly had a studio, a bit of gear and 3-4 days of time every week at once. Before I might have had one or two of these components, but never all at once.”

The resultant Albumsi is the most accurate measure of the ‘man to date. Thick waves of bass lap up at an exotic shoreline of greenery and indistinct birdsong. Tunes swell, ebb, crest and recede over 6, 8, 13 minutes at a time. Are we in Goa or Grafenburg? Rasping synthesisers taking off on ‘Well, Traumhaft’ and SFX like suction cups on ‘Hoolock Rock’ suggest the latter. But then, listen to the ecosystem of competing animal voices on ‘Apo-Calypso’ or the marriage of hand drums and wavering lead on ‘Pantasy’, and it’s impossible to be sure.

As ever, our host does not toil in studio solitude. Master mastering engineer Carsten Dämbkes brings the hi-def best out of the dense thicket of grooves. Close collaborators and friends like Niklas Rehme-Schlüter (Cass.), Lucas Croon, Nikolai Szymanski (Airchina), Alexander Dorn (Credit 00), Gregor Darman & Aki Vierboom (Phaser Boys), Sara Dudzinski Rodriguez and Florian Van Volxem variously add tweaks to the kit and compliments to the overall product.

Truly however, Albumsi begins and ends in the galaxy of Bufiman. With feet in the forests and head in the night sky, one arm pulling samples from the past and another jutting fingers into the future, the album is a rich stew of sounds, mantras and motifs and that have been simmering inside for a long, long time.

Following her recent outings on Optimo and Butter Sessions Matisa wants to take you to another special place. It’s not here. It’s not there. It’s ‘Elsewhere’… Making her debut on Biologic, young Italian newcomer Matisa’s adventure is plotted around three atmospheric, soul-affirming late-night gems that are all based around different chapters of the night and the mindset that comes with it. Loaded with an additional Kim Ann Foxman remix, this trip has something for everyone. We start with ‘I Need A Bit Of Poetry’, Matisa’s yearning for substance and meaning wrapped up in a bright, breezy timeless piece of house music that borders on the majestic realms of progressive. Think about poetry in all forms of life… Connections, adventure, but most of all - music. Deeper into the trip we glide; first comes Kim Ann Foxman’s crisp electro twist on ‘I Need A Bit Of Poetry’ which maintains that evocative rave vocal but switches up everything else for something much darker. Next we hit ‘Are You Not Sleepy?’ Inspired by the post-show brain chaos mindset we can all relate to, it’s up-tempo, it’s trance-influenced, it’s Matisa capturing that infuriating but exciting fizzy inspiration and adrenaline rush we all experience after a fulfilling show. For the final chapter of this accomplished label debut, ‘The Curtain Falls’, Matisa takes us back to the source of that adrenaline rush. A bubbling disco house thumper, all reverbed drums and big synths, it’s inspired by the moment when your set kicks in and the crowd are right behind you every track of the way and you lay your soul down bare for everyone to enjoy. If there’s a place more special than that, we’ve yet to find it. Welcome to Elsewhere… We ain’t going nowhere.

In 2016 Baaba Maal, the Senegalese master-musician, released his 11th album 'The Traveller' via Marathon Artists/Palm Recordings. Produced by They Very Best's Johan Hugo Carlsberg the record is a globetrotting portal into what can happen when traditional African rhythms both coexist and expand on dance-leaning sounds.Taking this approach to the next level Baaba Maal recruited dance floor minded producers to remix various tracks off the album. Including veteran Berlin deep house artist Henrik Schwarz, Auntie Flo known for his exploration of lesser-known strands of music & the Barcardi-house sounds of South African producer DJ Spoko.

Unforgiving is the world, unforgiving the sound; Powerful, dark and mesmerizing Club Trax with a fierce undertone, that is the sound of Lostlojic on the first sublime 6 track TECH-UM release, a project by the Deeptrax founder and Techno enthusiast Chris Roorda, issueing white labels of deeper intelligent stormy techno on very Limited Edition vinyl of only 150 pieces.

Releasing under labels such as Furthur Electronix, Neo Violence or Thirty Year Records, Lostlojic is back on TECH-UM to spread his deep, funked up but ferocious sound. His experiences with different genres let him into deeper and more sophisticated realms of the electronic musical spectrum. Lostlojic's distinct sound and his experience as an excellent DJ and producer made him a perfect candidate for the first release of the newfound Frisian label. Deep sub-bass and drum-breaks with cutting, dubbed out, gloomy Lo-Fi accents dancing together to create a poetic and hypnotic piece of art made for the dancefloor.

Leftroom carries on their 15 year anniversary celebrations in fine style with a new EP from Detroit legend Norm Talley, who serves up two of his own bombs next to remixes of a previously released Ataxia track.

Motor City star Talley has been defining a stripped back, dubbed out tech sound for many years on labels like Landed, FXHE and many others. He opens this EP with Pulscocks, a dark and chattery cut with a menacing bassline that lingers down low. It's a high pressure track for sweaty back room clubs. Cosmic Reality is a spaced out and hypnotic roller with deft minimal pads and an eerie sense of atmosphere that encourages you to get lost in thought.

His superb remix of his good friends Ataxia's Rickaverse comes in two forms - the MF Mix, which is classic Norm Talley with its razor sharp hi hats and dubby, watery chords, and his house leading 313 Treatment, which rolls smooth and deep with lush piano chords and warped bass.

These are four more cultured cuts from the always excellent Leftroom.

DJ Duke always had a massive number of alter egos. One he only used once in 1996 was „Orlando Detroit Connection“ releasing mesmerizing Breakbeat tunes, connecting the deepest shit ever with some analog synth madness and stomping, broken beats.

Duke about this EP:

It was called Orlando /Detroit because I had been playing in Orlando a few times and they were really into the whole breakbeat scene, which was around the time I started doing more electro/break beat stuff. I added Detroit, because it was really a mix of breaks with techno sounds on top.
I did the electro stuff with Techfunkers and it eventually evolved into more break beat and then some acid too mixed in, but this release was just a mix of old detroit and the Orlando break scene

so you also djed stuff like this?
Yes, obviously when I started out DJing and electro was born I was playing electro in the 80s, but after I had produced house, I liked to mix different genres, and I think I was probbaly oneof the only ones that was doing electro/house in 1993, but there was a fairly large scene in Florida and elsewhere where they played funky acid breaks, so I did some of that, and this release was spawned from that time.

In November, less than a year ago, talented Californian newcomer Tyler Friedman blew the Kontra-Musik office away with his demo. Now the first EP of two has arrived and techno again feels wild and refreshing. On the debut track Revolve dramatic layers of melodic and harmonic noize rise and fall in and out of a very dynamic composition. Sound textures flies and vibrates over advanced minimal rhythmical structures and sub bass before vanishing to give room for something new. On the b-side label mates Jonsson & Alter transforms Tyler´s take on dancemusic into a dreamy hallucination. For over eleven minutes Jonsson & Alter extracts bass sounds and gliding tonal textures of the originals and takes us on a deep and very trippy journey into Taxi Driver territory. Suitable the remix is called Tylers´s Dream. And we just love it.

Mysterious Brooklyn label and production crew getting in the game with some techno and EBM bangers. All are re-workings of recognizable or obscure classics. "Looping Blood" the clubbiest of the EP builds around a Controlled Bleeding loop and blossoms into a spiraling unstoppable groove accented by crashing reverbs and jackin drums. "Alaaarmed" is a pounding re-edit of Tommi Stumpff, early german minimal punk not unlike Nitzer Ebb. "Take Two" is a great remix of Front 242's epic industrial classic "Take One" dubbing out the lyrics for an instrumental approach. "Open Bar" puts the scissors to Skinny Puppy's early 80s classic "Last Call" Looks like the aptly named Effective Weapns label certainly providing some hot jams for this fall.

Frisk - A shortlived, late 90's project brought to you by the team of Terry Francis, Jiten Acharya & Gideon Jackson, all active members of South London's infamous SWAG & Eye 4 Sound crews. Having only one 3 track 12" to their name, Frisk delivered this much sought after and coveted EP of sleek tech-house grooves on the aforementioned cult Eye 4 Sound label in 1997. If stripped back, funked-up and bass heavy jams are your thing then you need to check the absolute roller that is 'Peeking', a bottom end pleasing, acid churning percussive monster with all the trippiness you could hope for. 'Stabbed' on the B-side almost foretells some of the futuristic bassline pressure that would eventually emanate from Croydon only a few years later, it's not straight house or techno, it's an electronic steppers sound-system killer! The EP finishes with 'Just Don't', a garage-esque jam with delayed claps and stacks of funk, the track builds and builds and recalls the fractured machine soul of Detroit or the broken beat stylings of the West London mob. Sure, these jams all have varying influences, but they stand alone in their originality and sounds as fresh today, in 2019, as they did in 1997! A proper rare London record right here. No snoozing!

The ever excellent MOTHER RECORDINGS serves up more club gold, this time from MARTIN WASLEWSKI. His CLOSER release features two tight tacks that prove he has a lush sense of house groove.
Waslewski is a German who grew up on hip hop and now having turned to house finds himself at home under the roof of labels such as Hommage, Monaberry and Heulsuse. All these playgrounds offer him a deserved platform where he never fails to come up with the goods, as is the case again here.

Up first here is CLOSER, six minutes of deep, feel good house music with romantic vocals and colourful chords. The beats are lazy and well swung and this one is perfect for summer parties and terraces this year. On the flip, COME TO ME is stripped back and more driving, with a tech edge to the beats. There is more great melody though, and some smeared synths that add a sense of scale and weight.

After the strong debut outing with Canada's finest Nick Holder, the Selections imprint return with this latest exploration from Rough Recordings founder Tobi Danton. Starting things of "That's right" combines low thumping bass grooves with delicate pads to form a beautiful representation of peak time energy. This theme then continues on the a2 with "1988", a cut which would fit perfectly booming out of the once legendary Chicago warehouses. B1 once again ingrains that Chicago influence, with a deep Knuckles esc cut that is sure to evoke emotions at the end of the night. Finally, Kevin Over takes on the remix duties on the B2 with a warping dub fuelled rework which does not hold back on the low end.

In the phenomenon of the wave, nature, and technology combine with great effect. For Adrian Rodd both are important, he draws the bow from the synthetic sound wave to the natural surf wave. The producer and filmmaker from Lanzarote has created the visual aspect of his debut for Cochlea Music not only in the EP title Waves, the opener Equilibrium was created directly as film music. Surrounded by ambient and trippy synth sounds, the short film about the surfer Andy Criere shows a colourful journey from blue to red, a romantic poem "Man, Sea, Earth, Fire" - churned up and set in motion by urban basses and beats.

Unlike the main track, Night in Gran Via, he follows the DJ, still vibrating from the Techno-Floor, after working all night through the main city street. From there it goes to Verbena and Taboo 3AM on a jump to the Dubstep, Lo-Fi and Trap-Parties. Adrian Rodd's music flirts not only with party goers, but also with people who arrive home late, drawing on his experience as a resident DJ in Madrid's Stardust Club, as well as the sounds and everyday life in the surfing and fishing village directly by the sea.

Between warm waves, Waves mixes local history with a melodic evolution of ambient and urban dance music from Brian Eno to Burial, ending the title track with a film which pays homage to the volcanic landscape of the canary island.

Manchester-based producer Mason Maynard is welcomed to Hot Creations to present McLovin’, featuring two tracks of equal magnitude that display his vibrant talent. Mason’s debut release on the formidable label is set for release on 10th April.

On the flip, the spellbinding Remedy features a snaking sub-bass complemented perfectly with the powerful vocals of Ursula Rucker. “In its original form the song featured an old acapella from Ursula, but when we were put in touch with each other we knew we wanted to create something completely fresh.”

Mason Maynard has already built himself an exceptional reputation, with his groove led productions backed by some of biggest names in the business including Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, Green Velvet, Skream and Seth Troxler. His releases on Repopulate Mars, DFTD, Sola and Relief (where he has collaborated with Green Velvet) have been supported heavily on BBC radio.

In 2019 he toured the world, with sets at EDC, Hideout, Creamfields and also across Ibiza during the summer. Praised homecoming gigs took place at Manchester’s Warehouse Project and in front of 15,000 in the Hangar at Parklife Festival.

2020 will see Mason go from strength to strength as he continues to tour the USA and announces his new FANTAZIA label. Working alongside USA electronic music heavyweights Insomniac, FANTAZIA is inspired by early acid and raving culture with a debut release dropping on 6th March.

The Dresden label Uncanny Valley celebrates its catalogue number 50 with a compilation series that stretches over several records. With FANTA KORN TANKER Hessen's Golden Boy Lauer stomps through the club, while letting the magic speak through keys. A devotion to extensive research of the history of club wear has been at the forefront of MISBHV’s design philosophy, since its founding in 2015 by creative director Natalia Maczek. Exploring the intersection of fashion and the 90’s underground the Poland-based collective with previous ties to Maison Martin Margiela, Balenciaga and Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Arts paint a landscape of roughness, fun, nostalgia and futurism in a subversive marriage of fashion and music. After collaborating with a diverse range of partners - from Unsound and CXEMA to Dixon’s Transmoderna, MISBHV will be releasing its first physical record in late April 2020.

The debut EP is intended as an open, collaborative space for artists connected with the label - bridging the world of music and design, taking the form of a one-off collectible - the distilled essence of MISBHV. The debut record brings together DJ Hell and Wolfram - with original work, remixes, as well as two exclusive “MISBHV Edits” courtesy of DJ Hell and Wirski. Berlin. Calling authentic and trusted guests like "Zip", "Sammy Dee", "Daniel Bell", RICE will finally starting
the vinyl label. First release will be the E.P composed by Goemon, a very close friend of both Tanukeep and G,
who lives in Nagoya. Included 2 tracks are all based on the grooves made by Roland legendary drum machine
"TR-606". Kept minimal and nicely composed with HOUSE music mannered bass and synthesizer. A-side is
simple and modern but rigid minimal track which strongly appeals the groove. Deep and "in to" taste track on
B-side. Both tracks express the party image and history of RICE. Indeed, this product success to package their

More than 1 year after their last 8bit outing the Italian duo Supernova returns to Gorge's and Nick Curly's imprint. This time with the help of Medusa providing her wonderful vocals on 'My Vision'.

Vril is still a relatively little known artist but already he has some great accolades to his name: He has released a couple of great EPs on Giegling sub label Staub, had a track on Marcel Fengler's Berghain mix, Dettmann's Conducted and now appears with the 103rd release on Delsin. What he serves up is three titanic techno tracks designed with maximum dancefloor damage in mind. So big are these productions that we got a message back from that well known mastering company in germany. For some mystified causes some of our expensive equipment was crashing during the mastering session (!). They've been mastering records since over 20 years and that has never happened before like this. The Vortekz EP starts with the title track and it's a dramatic bit of big room techno with nerve gangling chords and plenty of sonic grit. The dub version is slower and more purposeful and is buried in a much wider, deeper groove that snakes more than stomps. Finally comes 'y7/10', which rocks back and forth in the same rusted loop as percussion flutters like tin foil in a stormy wind. The track flows an ever-higher arc of tension that eventually erupts into a sea of analogue fuzz and hiccupping techno beats.

2018 has been a busy year so far for Ben Rau, after completing tours worldwide, including standout shows in Australia and South America, he has also found time to launch a new label META alongside his increasingly successful INKAL imprint.

After handing over the reins for the first Meta release to promote new talent and give them a platform to thrive in the form of Rhymos' Seizure EP', Ben brings the heat for the label's second offering with his Marauder' EP.A release that stays true to Ben's dancefloor roots,whilst also displaying a techier big room sound primed for larger dancefloors. The title track Marauder' is a technically impressive affair, full of rolling percussion and expert drum programming , tension builds throughout the track via an eerie swelling synth which finally culminate in an epic break that makes use of delayed vocals before the rolling tech-houser concludes with the a groove heavy finale that let's all the elements shine.

The second track from the EP, Phoenix', is another potent dancefloor weapon , led by a pumping acid line that is complimented by ever-evolving synth stab responses.
The main break of the B-side signals the introduction of a spoken word vocal that gives Phoenix' its name , Ben delivers another stand out track providing the hooky elements which are a strong trademark of Ben's sound.

The fourth AF Trax release is a three-track EP from our long time ally The Fantastic Twins, who has the following to say about her EP:

This EP is a small collection of works I crafted over the past couple of years in the process of working on my live show. I have been performing versions of these tracks countless times and yet never played them twice the same way. To me, they have been material in constant motion, so shaping them into a 'finished' form was a risky challenge. Something I was also wary of - would it mean they would become set in stone Would it mean I'd have to somehow 'rationalise" the music - via the mind - as opposed to letting it run into the wildness of its physical live experiences

Whilst editing these tracks into a format that could be released, I realised that instead of shaping them into the mould my mind first intended to give them, I could in fact use the power they revealed each time I performed them to an audience and inject some of that energy - as much as it is possible to capture and recreate it in the studio - back into this EP. Then of course, it meant letting go on things I usually like to control more, and better.

But isn't it the power of music to let it take you where you didn't plan to go And how incomplete would the music be if our inspiration didn't feed off the collective experience of dancing to music together I've lost myself (and my twins) many times throughout the process - not only on German soil - I have sometimes landed in the wrong place, but I may have found one answer yet in the form of another question. Why are we here if we can't dance

That reminds me of the words of Pina Bausch 'Dance, dance or we are lost'. Lost in our internal struggles as individuals (or imaginary twins). Lost in a society where our relation to the other is often marked by fear, power or violence. We feel the need to resist. Yet nowadays, taking a political stance as an artist is too often being instrumentalised as another tactics or accessory to gather more popularity, reducing the political message to nothing else but a branding attempt. Isn't it anyway the power of capitalism to assimilate everything, even contradictory or once-upon-a-time subversive voices All to end up on a 'Rave' or 'Feminist' H&M t-shirt. Slogans that have been emptied of their initial force and substance, now replaced by their commercial value. I strongly doubt that more empty words poured in vain on social media will help us much. But, like Pina Bausch, like JD Twitch, I have always firmly believed in dancing as a physical, social and fundamental act that leads us to share a common space with others and embrace otherness. Standing together, dancing together when everything else forces us to divide.

Driving and funky dub house/techno "lofi" excursions from an excellent North American producer starting to rise up.

After a decade wandering away from the Dance music scene, Julien Jabre returns with an emotional voyage through "Samana". The A side opens on the Levant mix where a nostalgic yet hopeful theme takes a ride on solid minimal drums. The horizon sucks the swell and the fleet fades away with "Far at Sea" on A2. The B side plays a more drums/beats oriented edit of "Samana" infused by clubhead friend Lazare Hoche. Julien relaunches his own imprint with this release and many others to follow.

MOTHER RECORDINGS don't let up on the release schedule pressure as they look to returning label artists MAT.JOE for a new two tracker. This Berlin based duo are one of the most talked about duos on the circuit at the moment with releases on Toolroom, Hot Creations, as well as MOTHER in the last 6 months.
