Smooth Waves, the names says it all. For this edition of the Conceptual Moods series we selected some smooth synthy tracks. Our longtime Irish mate ‘Thom’ introduces the VA with lush melancholic synths driven by a subtle proggy bassline. We are happy to facilitate his very first release. OG ‘Innershades’ provided us with a deep bleepy tune that obviously bangs as one expects of him. The B1 goes under the name of ‘Guilio Gastadello’. The Demo we received caught our attention, and we decided to release it because it fitted the concept perfectly. B.ai concludes the EP with a dreamy, yet groovy tune that perfectly suits the other tracks. We are very happy to have her on board.

Established UK-talent Made By Pete lands on Damian Lazarus’ flagship Crosstown Rebels imprint this February. Collaborating with Savage & SHē on the two-track Walls of Zion, it acts as the debut release of 2022 for each artist and marks Made By Pete’s third release on the label.

The title track sets the tone, taking the form of a spacious, shamanic inspired cut. Rattling percussion reverberates around shimmering hats, as resonant vocals dive in and out. It feels atmospheric and soothing in one, opening neatly into the stripped-back sounds of Too Drunk To Dream. Lucid and dream-like, there’s a spiritual theme throughout, with whirring synths residing beneath tribal-like drum patterns to form an ethereal, club-ready cut.

Born and raised in London UK, Made By Pete is an artist who can count mavens of the electronic music scene like Damian Lazarus, Sasha and Kolsch as big fans of his sound. He has seen his work snapped up by taste-making labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Saved, Rebirth and Radiant to name a few, whilst performances across the world at clubs such as Space (Ibiza), Chinese Laundry (Sydney), Fabric (London) as well as Thailand’s famous Full Moon Party have highlighted him as a truly global artist.

Mexico-based duo Savage & SHē have garnered an international following thanks to a consistent schedule of quality releases. Imprints such as Abracadabra, Earthly Delights, TrueColors and Trndmsk are just a few examples of labels they’ve graced over the years, whilst sharing the stage with standout performers in the form of Adriatique, Be Svendsen, Matthias Meyer and many more besides.

For our next vinyl only release we welcome back to the label Venezuelan born and Berlin based artist Matheiu. The release features two original heady groovers with flare and charisma. On remix duties, Nick Beringer steps up and delivers a classy groove showcasing his sound. The second remix is from Denis Kaznacheev with a funky deep modular jam.

AdMaiora Music is back full-on force after almost a year hiatus with his biggest release to date. No one other than Cadenza co-founder Quenum lands on the label with 'Bolero Soul' EP, bringing into play extraordinary studio wizards DeWalta and Cristi Cons, who are entrusted on the remix duties. 
 Title cut 'Bolero Soul' opens proceedings in a percussive-trippy fashion as tight drums meet gloomy analogue low hefty rumbles. Over its 14 minutes ride, the track constantly moves by offering tribal-chants, sinister atmospheres and pressing shakers in a swirl of madness. 
 On the flip, Meander head honcho DeWalta welcomes us into his realm made of poignant synths and evocative, almost ancestral, vocal-pads. The grim mood of the original is still present, with the inward-looking motion translated by a descent, relentless breakbeat groove. 
 The entitled 'Mystic Full Moon' is yet another minimal-tunnel piece with Quenum able to make another brilliant use of hypnotic percussions and twisted sounds both free to move over edgy kicks and a lean, crisp groove. 
 Rounding off the package, Romanian maestro Cristi Cons delivers two different versions. On the first one, delicate mystic synths lead the listener to a mesmerizing break before swingy drums and a bouncy bassline bring back up the track, whilst on the Sunrise mix, which is >>VINYL ONLY<<, gritty low-end frequencies and delicate rhythmic toms are mixed together with futuristic arps and synths, making of this one the next after-hours anthem.

25HRS006 confirms it's quality only vinyl sound and change format with a new logo restyling. Also from now all the releases will be one track each side, 45rpm. The label's boss Giacomo Silvestri delivers a straight Minimal Underground and Groovy Tune. On the flip side you will find an Organic and journey remix by the romanian Lizz. Don't miss it out.

The increasingly vital Jorkes makes a big step up to the acclaimed Live at Robert Johnson label with her standout Sweet Dreams EP. As with all Jorkes EPs, the artwork features photography shot by Daniel Rajcsanyi.

Jorkes has been making big and bold moves recently. She is the co-founder of the unique Freeride Millenium label which is a hotbed for queer dance music. German-born but Austria based, she has an influential residency at Radio 80000 alongside ParisBöhm and is a resident at Stuttgart's Romantica where she plays a thrilling mix of disco, house, techno and everything in between. She is someone who always serves to highlight the importance of the dance floor as a place of sexual and cultural liberation and this new EP is another innovative statement that comes as she rides a wave of high profile radio, DJ and media support for recent outings on her own label.

Opener 'You Will be Mine' is a song about obsessing after an unattainable stranger on the dance floor who disappears into the night. It's a silky disco house sound with chords that sing and a floating bassline that lifts you off your feet. The melodic motifs bring charm and cosmic energy and the whole track has a lush, musical feel. The equally excellent 'Robot Lover' muses on human detachment in this technological era of internet porn, dating apps and screen obsessions and how a robotic lover might be a better fit than a real life partner. It is another elastic and disco-tinged rhythm, with elegant chords and dancing keys over a suspensory bassline. Intimate vocal whispers bring tenderness to this timeless track.

On the flip side, 'Sweet Dreams' layers up infectious claps and tinny percussion over an irresistible deep house groove. It's a widescreen, symphonic sound that brings very real but subtle joy and closer 'CDEvaLo' is the name of a crossdressing male-to-female and sex-worker friend of Jorkes. She sings the introduction lyrics in Greek and they translate as "It was a very beautiful day, while we were sitting at the park we thought of going out for a coffee and realized we have no money and are absolutely broke. So we discussed about who is gonna put the wig on to "go and make a visit“ Greek slang for sex work so we'll have money again." It is a comment on the number of young people who arrived in Athens over the years to do cross-dressing sex work after being kicked out by their Orthodox Christian homes. The track flips the script with a more playful disco sound, characterful vocoder vocals and glossy synths over a jacked house beat.

This is an expansive EP that shows off the different sides to Jorkes's unique sound.

The prodigiously talented Tim Engelhardt returns to Watergate for his third EP outing.

The young producer has been industrious throughout 2020; he released a new album ‘Idiosynkrasia’ on Stil Vor Talent, remixed Trentemøller and gifted Watergate another excellent EP, ‘Rooted’, among other activities.

‘Prophecy’ EP continues his touch for crafting exquisite compositions that evoke a warm cocoon-like atmosphere. The title track places his sound design skills at the fore, as tender melodic flourishes run
alongside a hummed vocal line, piano and swelling pads. ‘Polygon Particles’ is an intricate acoustic jam centred around a chunky bassline, lilting synth and keys, which builds towards a feel-good finish. The evocative ‘Connected in Silence’ rounds out the trio of tracks, driven by a crisp percussive core and wistful widescreen soundscapes.

Back in 2017, Basso delved into his micro-press cassette collection to treat us to the first retrospective of kosmische wizard Trance. Spanning both the bucolic and galactic, ‚Tapes' (GBR010) suspended time and space, enveloping us in the nebulous beauty of Jürgen Petersen's misty ambience.

Among the appreciative audience for this mind expanding release was one JD Twitch aka Keith McIvor, one half of the mighty Optimo. Keith's vision of remixing Jurgen's ‚Purification' for the club was embraced by both the artist and the label guy with glowing eyes. Charting a course through progressive house, ambient techno and the weirder bits of the solar system, McIvor combines the celestial synthesis of the original with some tough and tracky drum programming, turning the intensity up to 11 in pursuit of early morning ascension. A sensitive arrangement allows space for Peterson's waveforms to work their magic, while laser fire and additional fx abuse unlock evolutionary abilities buried deep in your unconscious mind.
The previously unreleased, largely unheard ‚Contemplation' was originally intended to feature on the ‚Tapes' compilation, but fell off the edge of that flat Earth thanks to its maximal runtime. Too good to remain a secret, this crepuscular creation enjoys the entirety of the B-side, drifting through the eons via meditative electronics, delicate sitar and a touch of tapey flutter.
Embrace the almost 40 year old tape's flaws and imperfections that could not be restorated and dive into the immersive and unparalleled.

Both staying legitimately true to their own recognizable sound. On the B-side Kaspiann continues from where Vala 1 was left to and provides two wintry sea inspired tracks to leave room for the next chapter in series of unfolding surprises.

Manchester duo Cortese return to Time Is Now with their second release, a sonic rambling through UKG, 4x4 garage and breaks.

Whilst the title track and 'SPU1' use flute melodies and warped basslines to create immersive atmospheres, the aptly-named 'In Transit' is all about movement. Finally 'Regulate' provides a blissed-out take on UKG before '2 b wit u' brings things to a dramatic close with a full-bodied soundscape and skittering breaks.

Micronica Records presents their first release from Micronica Limited vinyl-only series, which features four carefully selected tracks perfectly fitting the overall vibe of the label.

First track on side A, "Seq-Roar" is produced by an Ukranian artist Silat Beksi, who has proven himself to be one of the top producers in the scene, known for his unique combination of rhythm & special imprinted textures.

The second track, "Working the Machine", is by a Miami-based Venezuelian, Lulla, a straight-forward twisted minimal sound with its hypnotic vocal stabs and percussions, perfect for any occasion on the dancefloor.

Flipping over, "4th Planet" on B side is by an Israeli duo - userUNKNWN & Soyro, a warm and steady-paced rhythm designed with ever-evolving background pads, inspiring variations and a seductive vocal, while the synth stabs add a subtle funky flavour to the narrative.

Micronica's finest D I N & iOAN with their "Two Parallels" close the VA with a driving rhythm powered by warm background textures, quirky percussive patterns and twisted background themes with spiralling effects.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Applescal is the next in line for a release on DGTL Records, seeing as he has been part of the crew since day one, with multiple appearances at their shows to his name. The Atomnation label-head crafts out three tracks all coming from one single studio jam, aptly naming them Harmony One, Harmony Two and Harmony Three. The record is a special one for Applescal himself as well, as it's his first full EP in two years.

The EP starts off with Harmony One, a dubby and bass heavy track with a subtle vocal sample. It steadily builds up towards a more energetic part with synth stabs and heavy snares, while the pads in the background still make it keep its atmospheric feel. As all three tracks come from the same studio jam, it's obvious that this was the start of the jam, serving as the basis for the other two tracks. The second one, Harmony Two, was previously part of an Atomnation sampler and received a lot of great feedback, as well as airplay from a few big names in the industry. It builts around an arpeggio that playfully progresses and intensifies towards the break, where a raw synth is layered on top for the climax. With a more subtle bassline, but multiple rhythmic elements that add a proper swing, it makes an essential peak-time tune.

The flipside brings Harmony Three, which distinctly sounds as the final part of the studio jam. Hard hitting synth stabs and a rolling bassline set the track apart as the heavier hitter of the three, while still clearly building on the overall theme. It features an arpeggio that progresses along the break and into the main part, with sharp drum samples and tense synths. It wraps up this release perfectly.

Peckham-based DJ and producer duo Chaos In The CBD have announced their new 12” ‘Come Together / Digital Sound’ on their In Dust We Trust imprint, out October 28th 2019.

Consisting of New Zealand brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales, the duo’s new release features two excellently crafted club cuts that display their flair for creating deep house soundscapes, from the jacking, percussive heavy hitter ‘Come Together’ which features searing synths and a fierce bassline, to the expressive rhythmic stylings of ‘Digital Sound’, which features driving percussion and atmospheric synths.

Since moving to Peckham in 2012, the duo quickly became an integral part of the South London electronic community with their standout releases, including records on Rhythm Section, Mule Musiq and their own In Dust We Trust imprint, which they co-founded with fellow kiwi producer Jon Sable. This combined with the infectious energy of their magnetic and accomplished DJ sets have propelled them to play at some of the best clubs worldwide.

Chaos In The CBD say: “The purpose of IDWT has always been to serve as an outlet to release our own music without being at the mercy of external labels, whilst also retaining full control of the project both musically and aesthetically. The union between the artist and the renowned Neapolitan group gives life to an Ep drenched in "underground" charm that well reflects the philosophy of Nice To Be parties.
The typical funky-deep sonorities,italo-french producer's trademark, are well recognized in the 3 tracks that make up the release.
The title track Diamonds fully expresses the artist's musical concept: the bassline, "warm and captivating" is intertwined with a funky-melodic guitar that give a mood close to the classic-disco, to the track. The melodic part fits perfectly with the classic massive groove and the whole is enhanced by the "sexy" and catchy female vocal that gives that extra touch "memorable" to the track.
The famous French artist Franck Roger increases release's appeal with its magnificent version of Diamonds. His remix does not betray the mood of the original track, but it has a more "rolling" soul more " suited for the floor. He reduces the vocal to small filtered snippets that fit perfectly into the powerful groove.
The musical theme of the remaining tracks is the same: in Deepvision ,produced in collaboration with the Nice To Be artist Angelo Perna, echoes the funky bassline but this time accompanied by a darker and sexy atmosphere conferred by "snare drum rhythm" and by an hypnotic Raw-pad.
The groove "games" are the main feature of the Gang of Paris where rhythmic, synths and vocal inserts combine to form a great tool with a "dirty" typical of old-skool House of the early 90s.
The whole release looks so varied and suitable for different situations and then getting ready to heat up the floors fan of a polished and cherished sound!

For Danish native and much-revered producer/performer Rune Reilly KÖLSCH, Kompakt has proven the perfect home curating his music: with two critically acclaimed albums and a now classic run of solo instalments in our Speicher 12' series, he took his techno craftsmanship to new levels, setting it on a melodic, emotive and even autobiographical course - without loosing any of its punch and quirkiness. With new full-length 1989, Kölsch presents the final chapter of an elegant, anthemic album trilogy that started with an exploration of early childhood memories and influences on '1977' (KOM 276 CD 107) - the year of his birth - and continued on '1983' KOM 329 CD 122), a vibrant and picturesque journey sound tracking the year he travelled through Europe aged six.

'With 1989, we have arrived in my early teens', Kölsch explains, 'a difficult time in my life, where I mostly just remember the greyness of it all - grey feelings, grey weather and my own grey face.' Coinciding with the already challenging need to squeeze past the bottleneck of puberty, it was a time of seething family crisis - his parents were divorcing: 'I would escape that grey world on my skateboard, listen to my Walkman as I explored the city around me. Music became my savior - the only way to overcome my family's hard times. I found a soundtrack to my grey life, and suddenly there was color.' It's why you'll find several tracks on the album being named 'grey' in different languages, and they all share this distinctly 'Kölsch-esque' moment of epic melodies breaking through propulsive techno beats like the sun through stormy clouds - a musical twist that's particularly impressive on album hit single PUSH, first heard on 'Speicher 97' (KOM EX 97).

'Flower Of Cane' kicks things off in an almost sinister fashion with massive low end bursts and a fever inducing, single note that never stops rising culminating in a climactic crescendo of dance floor euphoria while 'Ortus' takes a much more 'up-beat' approach with dreamy arpeggios and shimmering atmospherics laid over a pulsing bassline resulting in a gorgeous number ideal for a number of memorable moments. Wrapping up the originals is the guaranteed summer anthem: 'Relentless fest. Jeppe Kjellberg' where sultry vocals and lush aural artifacts launch sensations to uncharted new heights. Not done yet, we asked none other than the brilliant Andre Lodemann to create his revision of 'Relentless feat. Jeep Kjellberg' and he, as always, delivered big time. Underyourskin is proud to present the debut release from Birds of Mind - a duo from Paris. Alex and Adrian compose a genre of music which is electronic, mostly nourished by the exploration of organic sounds and ancient chants. Reissue of in demand classic.Dubtraxx was new on the scene back in 2019 when they dropped this EP which has since become something of a mini-classic. It came on their own label Rhythm N Vibe and now this is seriously heavyweight gear gets reissued. 'Soundbwoy Request' is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. 'Towards '99' is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous A-side. The "2000 Tribute Mix" of 'Next Millenium' meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you'd expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

French techno titan Madben unveils his much anticipated ‘Troisième Sens’ LP on Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio.

Madben started absorbing the techno of Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Speedy J in the 90s, growing up in Lille in northern France. He retains a passion for DIY culture and warehouse parties thanks to youthful raving at Brussels' Fuse, Gent's Kozzmozz or in abandoned factories in Courtrai. All this has shone through in his music, including a debut album on Astropolis in 2018 that featured a collaboration with Laurent Garnier and a recent EP for Garnier and Scan X’s label.

Over the last decade, he has become a European club and festival favourite playing places like Berghain and Awakenings. His studio boasts a fine array of machines utilised to full effect on this latest opus. ‘Troisième Sens’ perfectly reflects what the artist has always loved, listened to and played, keeping one eye on the dance floor but never at the expense of musical narrative. It’s a genuinely progressive, multi-genre body of work that allows listeners to fully immerse themselves in the seemingly limitless depths of the Frenchman’s sonic capabilities.

He says, “Over the years, I learned to have more fun with the gear in my studio, and this has been the result. The album took three years to finish; I started in an underground basement studio in Paris before moving to Nantes. Therefore, it may surprise listeners with such a diverse selection of moods. It's dark in places but happy in others.”

'Departure' kicks off with uplifting synth work and broken techno beats that have a celebratory feel. 'Addicted' is a lithe cut with steamy vocals and a more fulsome combo of drums and bass, while 'Circuit Breaker' cuts loose in the cosmos. Acid wobbles, smeared synths and metallic percussion all make for a bouncy cut before 'Fade In Fade Out' continues the cosmic trip with vastly oversized synth patterns that will light up a dark space with overwhelming euphoria.

The brilliant 'It's 1 am In A Rave' is a dark, heads-down banger with 'Lost Memories' then layering up melancholic synths and Plastikman-style drum loops into something full of deep thought. There is no let up with the superb acid techno gymnastics of 'No fear', and 'The March' is a turbulent mix of sheet metal synths that whip about over steel-plated drums. 'You Dance Like A Robot' is end-of-the-world electro with a menacing robot vocal, and the electro tip continues with expert drum programming and menacing leads on 'Deep In The Jungle'. 'Meta' is a flailing rhythmic workout that sounds like the machines are in meltdown, and 'I Made A Dream During This Nightmare' is a serene techno soundscape for ruminating about the future of the human race.

Intelligent yet immediate, impactful but emotional, ‘Troisième Sens’ is another standout techno record from Madben.

Max Chapman returns to Toolroom following on from his debut release 'Zulu' which stormed the Beatport charts and gained massive Radio One specialist support. This time around he teams up with studio buddy ThreeSix, formally known as M.A.F.F, on 'Make A Move', marking another huge release.

Berlin based Midas 104 & Joshua Jesse (Katermukke, Parquet) are debuting for Dantze with soulfulo tech-house topped with a Remix from Gabriel Ananda (Basmati, Traum, Suara).

Alex Handley (Auto Sound City) and Nigel Rogers (Perseus Traxx) catch up on a regular basis to casually jam out on various machines in a Kippax basement, then edit, twist and re-jam them in a York flat. Satori´s latest Album "In Between Worlds" gets its second round of Remix Treatments. Second is Just Emma and the duo made a perfect dancefloor suitable mix of "Pink & Orange Sky" - likewise Britta Arnold did this to "Compulaire" and spiced it with a acidish bassline. Norwegian duo Of Norway have chosen "Tuti" and mixed it with groovy and relaxed beats - perfect for the morning after hours. The key to this fourth EP on Cochlea Music, the third release from the producer and label owner Denis Rodd, is internal communication. On Quantum, the introspective melodies and the optimistic rhythmic energy whisper and flirt with their own secret gestures like twins. Nothing works forcibly when the Berliner from the Canaries plays with his roots. Intuitively, he lets old school drum sounds, funk and break beat drift towards each other and drift away from each other, picking up on the current tendency to place House Music back in the long breath of Soul.
The track Inhere overrides laws of nature and ignites polar lights over the Spanish volcanic islands with gently blown brass samples. In Break Off, bass-driven beats and hissing hi-hat cymbals build up to a groove that empathizes with the gritty drones and frugal vocals.
For both tracks Denis Rodd found soulmate remixers. The brothers Mahy and Nichel Cruz from Gran Canaria as Primary Perception add their biofeedback from Hip Hop and Detroit Techno as well as their sound engineer knowledge acquired at SAE Institute to Inhere. Raul Alvarez from Madrid, studio manager at MONOM's 4DSOUND at Funkhaus Berlin, sowing dynamic friction in the harmonic flow of Break Off. In his remix, the rumbling rhythm monster reminiscent of old analogue machines and friendly cyborgs. It searches for the ethereal sounds and is too subtle to overwhelm them.

Cabaret, the Tokyo based party and record label by Yuki Masda and So Inagawa are really on a roll right now with great releases by TC80 and Binh recently. This time it's the turn of Ekbox which is comprised of NYC expat in Berlin Evan Baggs with Katsuya Sano. "Tidally Locked" is the kind of rolling and liquid minimal deep house than fans of Ion Ludwig or iO (Mulen) will dig. This one's infectious and bound to rock any dancefloor: sure thing! The bouncy and bleepy "Seezumay" is your more standard tech house affair, backed by some wicked 808 bounce and snap. On the flip also is the hypnotic and sublime "Conversation", a functional and loopy DJ tool for the most part that should serve most DJs quite well.

Jasper James fights for what he wants to be, cuz function is the key. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute, and after many trials and tribulations with the pressing plants, everyone’s patience is now handsomely rewarded. On the A side, '0141' is percussion-based track utilizing a variety of overdriven metallic percussion and petite vocal snips that roll up neatly into a seductive rhythm. This is one for the hips and hands, with instrumentation chopped into short staccato spikes, Jasper invites impulsive body theatrics and the freedom to spastically express oneself. On the flip, 'E-Maniac' is a bona-fide tops-off Summer anthem if we ever heard one. What would typically qualify as an A-side banger, we’ve decided would better suit our contrarian leanings as a nice Easter egg, just to make sure you’re actually listening. This one drives hard, shuffling at a maniacal pace with gut-bending bass notes and stuttered pad stabs. These two songs will ping your pong and pong your ping.

Shibuya, Tokyo based DJ/Producer, Sakiko Osawa has been expressing her musical style in the digital world since her debut, but now she has come to expand her musical journey to the analog world. This 2LP album has the theme - "Halfway". Tominori Hosoya made the 10 tracks inspired by his old but special memories / wishes for his precious things, people and feelings in his life. All the music was made from the scenery that makes him 35 years old. This album doesn't only include his trademark Deep House / Ambient / Chillout style, but also Broken Beats, Tech House too. Following the success of the first Planet Love compilation, Safe Trip has delved even deeper into the roots and formative years of trance music. The result is a vivid snapshot of heady, trance-inducing music released between 1990 and ’95.

Like its predecessor, Planet Love 2 does not deliver a straightforward chronological run-down of influential ‘proto-trance’ cuts and key early anthems. Instead, it casts its’ net far wider for inspiration, joining the dots between trance-inducing tracks in a disparate mixture of interconnected styles.

Before trance became rigidly defined in the late 1990s, the term was more loosely used as a descriptor, with the tag variously being attached to tracks that combined elements of techno, ambient, breakbeat, deep house, electronica, progressive house, acid, tribal and new beat. What unified these disparate musical strands was an emphasis on groove, melody, atmosphere and – more often than not – psychedelic intent.

You’ll find all this and more amongst the 12 colourful and emotive tracks from around the world that make up Planet Love 2. The hard-to-pigeonhole, early ‘90s New York rave scene is represented by the immersive ambient of Lazer Worshippers’ ‘Free Flight’, Revelation’s trippy gem ‘First Power (Domination Dub)’ and the delay-laden drums, held-note new wave chords and psychedelic electronics of ‘Time Warp’ by Moodswings.

The UK’s rarely discussed role in the development of early trance – often via tracks that touched on ambient techno and progressive house – is represented by the Obsession Project’s prototype melodic trance obscurity ‘Untitled Part 3’, the Arc’s fast-then-slow rework of The Moody Boyz ‘The Pygmy Song (Nocturnal Version)’ and ‘X O Surf’ from The Deep, a breakbeat-driven workout that defies easy categorization.

Naturally, the popularity of early trance in Europe is reflected in the track listing, too. Check the formative progressive trance of French producer Innertales’ ‘Odysee’, two tracks from Italy (T.E.W’s ‘Doubt Int’ and Alien Signal’s melodic ‘Deep Sky Delights’), and a trio of often overlooked cuts by German artists (early Svan Vath number ‘L’Esperanza’, the Jam El Mar co-produced ‘We Come in Piece (Desert Mix)’ by Dance 2 Trance, and ‘A Source’, the opening track from Tobias Beldermann’s first EP as Redeye.

Offering a deeper and more diverse definition of early trance than volume one and packed to the rafters with sought-after and overlooked gems, Planet Love 2 is a fitting follow-up to Safe Trip’s first collection of formative trance treats.

Sister Label to Vanguard Sound Anunnaki Cartel plays host to the fourth installment of the Vanguard Sound Series featuring 4 tracks from crew members Dakini9 (Lola), Chris Mitchell, DJ. Spider, and founder Amir Alexander. During the time since Vanguard Sound Vol. 3 launched the Vanguard Sound label, the series has reached a kind of cult classic status among the most dedicated U.S. underground vinyl collectors. As more and more people discover Alexander and his Crew of ultra talented DJ/Producers, their releases on discogs disappear and then reappear for three to five times their original price. Buy on sight status is quickly being achieved by all six members of this shadowy Crew.

The four tracks contained in this release all touch base with the vibes already established by the Crew, while continuing to expand the sonic palette as well.
Amir Alexander's Cypher is classic dirty analog at it's finest. With a slightly overdriven synth baseline leading the way, followed by restless percussion. Midway through, deep and mysterious pads create a dreamy texture as a spoken word passage muses about loyalty to those you came up with.

Chris Mitchell's 213NL raises the temperature with Chris's signature "Phrenetic" drum programming under an SH101type acid baseline oscillating wildly as melodic strings soar.
DJ Spider keeps things gutter with some Vanguard/ Plan B style street knowledge in the form of New World Resistance. An industrial/ futurist tech beat frenzy full of vocals dropping science about the New Word Order's plans for global domination.
Dakini9 closes the release by taking us to the depths and beyond with her deeply emotive work in the form of Rollercoaster to Nowhere. Sci fi atmospherics weave in and out of lushly serene pads while her always deadly serious percussion marks the time effortlessly. Time travel is evoked as the dulcet tones erode all sense of the here and now. Fall into infinity! For the collector's, this one is not to be missed as it is a rare Vanguard Volume on it's sister label Anunnaki Cartel with both logos on one record. Don't sleep..

(inhale deeply) We continue to unfold our record label with a release from a mysterious New York City-born artist we have only known for a short time now yet who we admire and whose personality and uncomplicated way of being inspired us and motivated us to dig up his phone number, pluck up all our courage and dial the Berlin area code to ask if he had anything to add to the Basic Moves story. (exhale) As you might have guessed, the answer was positive and slowly, little by little, the elements of Basic Moves 05 began to assemble.

A year later, we had found the two horizontal techno tracks we were looking for. After our previous adventures of more ornament-focussed dance music we wanted to send a well-adjusted rhythm into the music stratosphere. Although Forgive and Not Knowing are clearly rooted in US techno and early minimal house, these tracks prove that roots tend to keep growing below the surface and that any new growth is proportionate to its groundwork.

Of course, we could try to pin down the effect of these balanced, layered compositions as much as we like with words but actually, their bright secret can only really be felt in sound and movement (loud, dancing). Walrus & Islas, Brussels, 2018

A tribute to the late Kenny Hawkes, London's dark lord of house music. Lovingly selected and curated by Luke Solomon, Jonny Rock and Leon Oakey.

Running from 1995 to 2002, 'Space' was a Wednesday night founded by Kenny Hawkes and Luke Solomon. It inhabited the underground world of Bar Rumba right in the heart of London's West End and took place each and every week. Kenny and Luke had both been regular fixtures on infamous London Pirate Radio station 'Girls FM', and were seeking a suitable place to play the kind of music they supported on their respective radio shows. They were presented with a weekly opportunity at Bar Rumba and snapped it up.

'Space' was THE place for 7 solid years, hosting local and international guests from the house music community week in week out, to 200+ hardcore and dedicated followers. Regular guest bookings read like a 'who's who' of the music scene with sets from Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Tom Middleton, A Man Called Adam, Ralph Lawson and Huggy, Harri and Domenic, Francois Kevorkian, Salt City Orchestra, Carl Cox, Chez Damier and Ron Trent.... the list goes on and on and on! Music from seminal record labels such as Classic, Prescription, Cajual, Paper, Relief was played on rotation amongst a killer mix of Disco classics, alternative 80s music, left-field B-sides and techno. The night undeniably became a cauldron of amazing music and midweek hedonistic chaos.

As Soho changed beyond recognition and clubbing moved Eastwards, Kenny and Luke decided to call it a day. Sadly, Kenny Hawkes died in 2011, leaving a huge hole in the dance music community. Kenny was a legendary figure with an unmistakable sound and DJ style, he had a warped sense of humour and a huge personality and he continues to be dearly missed by all to this day.

As a tribute to Kenny, his musical partner in crime Luke Solomon alongside 'Space' regular and DJ / Editor supreme Jonny Rock, and former Classic Records label boss Leon Oakey have joined forces to celebrate his life through music. 3 years of tweaking, pooling music and clearing tracks have culminated in 2 very special double albums and a digital compilation. A collection of 'Space' classics, underground jams and the tracks that shook the Shaftesbury Avenue dance floor, shaping one of London's most revered midweek sessions.

All profits from the compilation will be donated to the British Liver Trust.
