Jan Bertil Svensson: co-founder of the legendary Börft Records, member of arch techno-primitivists Frak, the man responsible for Villa Abo and all-round underground don active in the field of machine music since 1987!

Whilst Jan's output will always conjure comparisons to Techno with a capital T, he has (and continues to) plough a singular and peculiar path in the realm of electronic music. For the Glasgow-based Full Dose, he presents his first ever solo 12' under the name of J.B.S: a four tracker of sluggish, minimal funk that bears the hallmarks of his most classic work as Villa Abo, and adds dashes of the brutal grit that his Studio SS project is infamous for. If there's any sort of recurring theme in Svensson's work, it's playfulness and humour, a particular Scandinavian form of sonic banter that cuts right through the po-faced, black-clad heteronomy of much of today's electronic landscape. The music on this record, with it's odd blend of stripped-back synth pop and brutish dungeon funk evokes exactly that: a body of work that doesn't even seem capable of taking itself too seriously, yet evades anything resembling a recognisable piss take. After all, nobody said that humour and credibility in music had to be mutually exclusive, and J.B.S is a master at weaving the two together at will.

In a world where dance music is often subjected to ludicrous conceptual analysis, sometimes the combined effect of hot circuitry, sincerity, vivaciousness and an anomalous attitude are the only thing for it. But then again, this is not just dance music either...

For the third release of the young parisian label they decided to bring back artists that they love and that already built the beginning of the label, Funkastle whose Boulevard Etoiles was on NFR01 and Kizoku who joined Bassam for a real banger featuring on NFR02 . This split EP combines the two different styles of these artists and creates a complete vinyl where the 4 tracks are a different trip.

Following on from releases by the likes of Whitesquare, The Cyclist, DJ Octopus and Daniele Baldelli & Dario Piana, Tropical Animals head honcho Ricardo Baez steps up to provide a three track EP of refined, richly textured, deep and brooding cuts.

Undulating synths, introspective chords and a tapestry of rhythms flow from the Florence native, at times moving through the depths of lo-fi, crunching house at others delving into the realms of acid.

With some people describing the sound as being like older D-JAX UP Releases (albeit at a less frantic pace) according to We're Going Deep founder, Placid, Northern Powerhouse make house and techno 'for when the over compressed sound of today's music gets too much.' Previous releases have gained support from esteemed music aficionados such as Laurent Garnier, Colin Dale, Severino Panzetta, Bill Torres, and Snuff Crew, among others, though at the time of writing, this one has remained under wraps until now.

'Kes Fingers' hammers an array of rhythm devices as Perseus Traxx and Alex Handley record a live take, venting frustration shortly after discovering that tests delivered for a previous release had been cut at the wrong speed. The second take overdubs snarling and grizzly analogue bass, and that's it, you're back in the room and it's time to flip the wax.

'A Lot Of Letters' throws out some distorted and strange tones an unremembered dusty old percussion machine, weaving pitch and distorted bass about, until it gives way to thin and moody arpeggiation and more effect soaked percussion. These tracks, like their others, are made for dark rooms with low ceilings and loud systems, as Downfall regulars can attest.

With the label screen printed by hand, this Northern Powerhouse release covers both sides of the vinyl.

The 803 Crystal Grooves Collective cuts label was launched in 2019 by Cinthie as a platform for material from her collective of friends and producers she admires.

It's rare for a dance artist to deliver peak time jams with a raw political message. Lyrically, Breathe is an acute portrait of an abusive relationship where one feels stuck - be it through financial necessity or trauma bonding in a violent, emotionally abusive or dysfunctional relationship. Musically it’s ageless, rolling, harmonic acid house (there's also two exceptional remixes by Lauren Flax and Olive T). ‘I Walk Alone At Night’ continues Elizabeth’s essential message but from the perspective of fear and the heightened sense of danger abusive experiences create.

Pale Blue have released 12"s on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Correspondant, and Me Me Me - as well as releasing tracks for charities they believe in. Nothing they’ve released so far, however, hits with such a strong, poignant and critical message than these new tracks.

2019 has sparked a new evolution for the transient broken beats of London’s Itinerant Dubs.
The enigmatic imprint has been running in silo since 2013, providing the final strongholds of the underground with innovative bass aesthetics and an intoxicating electro swarm. In fact, “It’s Magic” opens the A-side with a cold, bruising cut of metallic percussion wrapped around lonesome, dystopian bleeps and form-shifting synths. Minimised and stripped-back to its core functions, guided by bold infusions of breaks. “Oh She Dance” is the duo’s most playful construction yet, mashing up a loose jungle flow with more rigid breakbeat science to form a deathly machine-gun of sonics. Bullets keep spraying across “Salsa On Mars” - a raucous, percussion-heavy slice of dubbed-out house - albeit with a moodier, more introspective groove that takes its ammunition from London’s inimitable jazz arsenal.

No warm-up lap needed, ‘Phasic Reflex’ may start as a tycho-esque daydream, what’s bred in the bone comes out in the flesh. A pure adrenaline rush of vogue-ing 303, hi-voltage electro- and intricate
drum programming, this one has dancefloor ripper written all over it.

Keeping the tension up to hazardous levels, ‘MS Plenty’ zones out to a Detroit-style elixir of arpeggiated seesaws and pong-indebted, body-jacking pep. As it's title suggests – or not, the B-side opener ‘A Realist’s Realistic Reality’ clearly lies closer to a cyphered Dick-ian parallel world full of binary bleepin’ and swirlin’, post-kosmische infused riffs and tentacular Arpanet-style modularity, which Roza Terenzi alters into a lo-pressure dub expedition – better tasted at sunrise, feet buried deep in the sand and your hazy mind draped in the cosy folds of a cheerful seaside sloth with friends.

It’s ten down for Haŵs, and what better way to celebrate than to have Adam Pits step up for ‘Element X’, a relentless, cutthroat EP that will no doubt leave you gasping for more. With three killer originals and two first-class remixes on the menu, the musical craftsman and his guests deliver a rally of transcendent dancefloor moments exploring the true power behind tension and release.

The inaugural ‘Gazza’ – made in memoriam of the talented selector and Adam’s late friend Alex T – is a murky, cunning opening containing a rumbling bassline that plumes outwards like the smog over a late-night crowd. ‘Solar Wave’ provides a trippy fusion of acid and euphoria, cresting and diving with an irresistible peak-time groove. On the titular ‘Element X’, the pace slows right down to a nonchalant meander, taking delicate melodies and slinging them above a surly-faced beat.

Moving onto the remixes, DJ Central dismantles the exultations of ‘Solar Wave’ and revises it into a techy, taut number with a new magnetic drive. Priori’s final offering is delightfully subversive to Adam’s sound; his take on ‘Element X’ is both pensive and anthemic, with a keen sense of space and the sort of epic mood that could easily crown a culminating set.

All in all, no nonsense goodness from Adam and his team. We couldn’t think of any other way to celebrate this milestone. Indeed, the night is always darkest before dawn.

There is not much information to be found online about Bliss Inc., whose Hacking the Planet EP comes out on Radiant Love this summer. Beyond the fact they’re named Alexander and hail from Saint Petersburg, the project is cryptic – somehow this is fitting for a set of songs that could’ve fallen out of an obscure 1994 catalogue. This is the year of Robert Leiner’s Visions of the Past, Opus III’s Guru Mother, and Paul Oakenfold’s BBC-1 Essential Mix: an aesthetic region in which tech and new age spirituality braid together, a time before this synthesis reached Silicon Valley; while it still lingered in the rave, incredibly sincere, everything sounded kind of wet, and the efficiency of spirit was means to no end but a state of bliss.

What keeps Hacking the Planet from falling into pure nostalgia is its tuning – the palette of 1994 has been lifted and run through a delicate sensibility. The title track is a piece of buoyant, airy trance, with orbiting filters and a set of loopy, very vocal synths. It bumps along at 130 BPM, but feels slower because of the ease and clarity with which the track progresses. “Infinite” has got the aquatic motifs and soft, panning cymbals of a set-opener, or a comedown jam. The break that swings in after a minute-thirty feels less like a punctuation than another stream of sonics joining the flow. Picking up the pace a little, “Transitions” opens with a whir that could issue from a field of crickets or a stack of hardware. The entrance of the bassline was the first moment in this EP one could call nasty. But its drive and weight is also tempered, played against by a clever drum break, a run of piano keys, and the ethereal reverb-washed vocal sample we expect in a piece of classic mid-90’s trance – absent, however, is any kind of signalling to Goa, “exoticism” or indigenous aesthetics. (1994 was also the year of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Les Tatouages collection, which, for all its romantic nomadism and deft tailoring and syncretic spirit, has no need of a 2020 update).

Bliss Inc.’s songs stream, rather than track – one gets a sense that the elements flow in and out rather than ride a structure. Sansibar, who provides a remix of “Hacking the Planet” to round out the EP, is solidly a producer of tracks: often electro-derived ass-shaking material that hits, and hits in recognisable sections that progress serially. His version of the title cut brings in a hefty acid baseline, jungle-style stretched vocals, and kicks out of the 4/4 grid. But let there be no mistake, this is a producer also quite capable of coaxing delicacy out of hardware. The chimes of the lullaby-like breakdown halfway through the remix sound like nothing but a ghost in the machine.

Following the release of their critically acclaimed second album, ‘Isles’, Bicep continue to develop their Feel My Bicep imprint with a 12” from a fresh signee, Fasme. The French producer makes his debut on the label with a new 3-track EP ‘Home’.

Fasme is the project of Tom Ferreira, who only dropped his first EP in April last year and quickly caught the attention of Bicep after discovering the track ‘ICI’ on YouTube. Bicep first played these tracks in their FMB Radio show on Apple Music and a Friday Guest Mix for Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music.

His melodic sound is created on analog synths, evolving between acid, electro and braindance. Describing himself as “more of a live performer than a studio man”, Fasme will be supporting Bicep in Paris in October to celebrate the EP release.

Due to Andy's half Indian roots, he is lucky enough to owe a Beach House just outside of Mangaluru, South India in the State of Karnataka. - where most parts of the Album were written over a period of 6 months. In this totally isolated, entirely tourist free hidden spot, which had become Andy's second home over the past years, he found himself away from the usual routines of western life, to find himself in a position to simply sit down and create. The result is House Warming". As the Title suggest's - think of house, sure and no doubt- but here on this album, thought all the way thru from beginning to end. The result then is House Music in all it's aspects: The Soulful, the deep and the raw or if you want - Deep House, Acid House, Garage/Vocal House - the joints range from downtempo, elektro and even hip hop beats. Oldschool you may think Maybe in spirit, as entirely produced with analogue synths & the roland series from 808, 909, 505, 606 to the original 303, but used in a modern studio environment. Andy Vaz is someone who has been around long enough to know how to programme his very personal idea's into the music - without denying influences such as Detroit, Chicago and New Jersey, to create something that goes further than a simple reflection of the past. Phuture only released a handful of tracks (plus an album a full decade after their debut), but have remained a legendary act in the development of Chicago house for their stomping 1987 single "Acid Trax", the track that began and defined the acid house sound. The group was formed by DJ Pierre, synthesizer fan Spanky and Herb J in 1985 as a recording entity to produce records for Pierre to mix into his sets at several crucial Chicago clubs. After being turned on to the high-pitched squelch of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer (marketed as a bassline machine for solo guitarists), the trio emerged from the studio with a track they called "In Your Mind". Ron Hardy previewed the track at his legendary club the Music Box - where it became known as "Ron Hardy's Acid Track" - and Phuture re-made the cut with production by Marshall Jefferson. Released on Trax Records in 1987, the single created a dividing point between the Chicago sound before and after it, with hundreds of "Acid Trax" imitations flooding the local market. After it caught on in Britain as well, the single soundtracked the wave of club madness which coalesced in the rave movement by the end of the decade.

Re mastered for 2014 and re released in original 1987 artwork. Released in conjunction with Trax / Harmless.

Lostsoundbytes is a brussels based young and fresh producer. He is one of the owners of 'Vaste choses', an atypical music label that has released several tapes. His previous release was a split record on 'Land Of Dance Records', named 'From Sci-Fi to Lo-Fi'. On Willi's Adventure, he worked with machines and push all his gear beyond the limits. Raw and weird chicago inspired Acid tracks, distorted voices that could make a hole in any heart, slow and oppressive industrial tunnel. Keep an eye on him because Lostsoundbytes is a prolific and tireless musician ; he could soon play near you... Enjoy.

The continued rise of Alan Fitzpatrick is the biggest story in UK techno right now. Having enjoyed a rapid ascent since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2009, Fitzpatrick now enjoys a status as a highly respected and in-demand producer. By releasing his debut album for Adam Beyer's globally renowned Drumcode label, Alan became the first act to record an album on Drumcode since 2005. The well-received 'Shadows In The Dark' long-player marked the culmination of a run of productions that saw Fitzpatrick publically name-checked as a one of the most exciting producers in techno by Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Carl Cox, John Digweed and Len Faki and being awarded a BBC Radio 1 Essential New Tune for his anthemic Reflections single on Bedrock. 2011 will see Alan evolve an already impressive production CV via collaborations with Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Joseph Capriati as well as remixes of Mark Broom, Funk D'Void and Alex Bau.

It has been Alan's partnership with Adam Beyer's Drumcode label that has produced his most significant work to date; releasing three chart topping EP's (Static, Face Of Rejection, Insurgent Series) on the label in addition to his 'Shadows In The Dark' LP and being one of a select handful of producers invited to remix Beyer's classic Remainings III. Elsewhere, Fitzpatrick's studio services have been recruited by the likes of John Digweed & Nick Muir, Slam, Joey Beltram, John Digweed, Dustin Zahn & Joel Mull and Pascal Mollin. Indeed, such has been Fitzpatrick's dominance of the techno scene in the last eighteen months that his productions have regularly filled the top positions of Beatport's techno Top 100 chart at the same time.

The same unstoppable momentum has come to characterize Alan's style of techno; powering demand for his music worldwide, and filling his gig diary with weekends spent touring all over Europe as he completes the transition from being a highly regarded newcomer to a bonafide member of techno's producer vanguard. Focusing on his trademark sound of tough, hooky grooves and incendiary beats, An intuitive and dynamic exponent with Native Instrument's Traktor software, his big-room techno sound has seen him draw crowds in Germany (Berghain, Cocoon, U60311, Maria Ostbahnof), France (Rex, Inox, Le 25, S'Kandalo) The Netherlands (Awakenings, Paradiso, Catwalk, Doornroosje, Poema), UK (Fabric, The Arches) Italy (Old River Park, Rasmonan), Switzerland (La Zoo, D-Club, Das Schiff) and Eastern Europe (Kiwi Lithuania, Forsage Ukraine) plus key festivals like Kazantip Ukraine, Streetparade Zurich, SW4 London, Boom Portugal and Sziget Hungary.

Griffé is back with a new uncompromising release. For this second EP, the Corsican born P.O presents his very first (almost) solo record. Eminent member of the duo Solär Sound System with Jimmy Batt (who comes to lend him a hand on the powerful A2 track "Reveille toi").

For this release, P.O offers 5 tracks oscillating between several styles, flirting with EBM, break, techno and many others. There are tracks designed for the dancefloor as well as the UFO "I Don't Feel Anything" which comes as a breath between the other tracks. The whole is linked by a dark and powerful atmosphere, common between each track and which will give the title of the EP, aptly named "Dark Phase Cylcle EP".

The unique sound setting created by the evocative power of music will lead you into a magical desert that make you feel immersed in a sort of an ancestral rite. The sounds of the Turkish musical tradition are mixed with tight rhythmic patterns and electronic elements, giving a definitely dance-floor imprint to each tracks, where past and modernity merge to create a perfect harmony. But the original and authentic vibe of this EP are the beautiful voice of the Turkish singer Beyza Cakir and the percussions of Lorenzo d'Erasmo, who played a decisive role in the creation of the album.

In addition to the three original tracks, the EP includes also a Remix of the single "Acid Desert" by the Italian duo "Underspreche", with more House influenced beats. All we can do now is wish you a good listening and a nice trip!

Acidic Groove Music translated into the Czech language is Kyselá Drážkovací Hudba. 11/17/2019 is the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in the former country Czechoslovakia. The anniversary falls on a Sunday this year so this record will be released a day before the eve of the revolution’s anniversary. It was a peaceful revolution and happened just weeks after the fall of the Berlin wall. Why the translation and the release date? This release was a long time in the making, just like the protestors who gathered in secret, planning, days before that historic event. Acidic Groove Music is anticipated to be a revolutionary release for Vibenotic Recordings. Some of my ancestors are from Bohemia, a country that became part of Czechoslovakia and soon after that, the Soviet Union. So it’s a tribute to them and their old country. In an uncertain time in America where the establishment openly looks down on immigrants, I want to embrace my immigrant heritage and show it off even more. Additionally, some of my ancestors were involved in the dance music of their eras and I would like to continue their legacy since I’ve been a part of dance music as a DJ for approximately 30 years. I have spent some time in the Czech Republic which contains the former country, Bohemia and amid all of the historic castles and landmarks you really do hear a lot of House Music, Techno and Downtempo. It’s really a vibrant place with something for everyone. Just over 30 years ago it was impossible for westerners to see what is considered to be the jewel of Europe. What I hope you will find when listening and grooving to it is a smooth, modern and free journey into Deep House, Techno and Downtempo. All the material is 100% original and made with hardware synthesizers and drum machines. The songs are different styles but all include that magical, mysterious, battery operated, silver plastic, instrument; the legendary Roland TB- 303. Since Czech like English, is one of the most difficult languages to learn and speak Kyselá Drážkovací Hudba is also known as Acidic Groove Music.

Shadow of Self – Influenced by the deep electronic sound of Chicago’s pioneers Fingers Inc. and Armando of the 1980’s this song is stripped down to Acid House with lush pads and classic drum programming. It was made with a Devil Fish modified TB -303, Elektron MachineDrum SPS 1UW, Casio RZ-1, Korg Minilogue and Clavia Nord Lead 3.

Aberdeen – A 90’s influenced House track with a sliding TB-303 bass line, swinging/shuffling drums and a chord that evolves as the track plays with pad swells and swirls. Aberdeen is named after a street on the south side of Chicago that had a bar on it where I introduced this neighborhood to the deeper Northside sound of the 90’s.

Metrics – Detroit Techno meets Chicago House with a futurist approach to the acid sound we know and love. Acid, drums and a bending pad start this one off and then it evolves into a panning clap sound reminiscent of 80’s Farley tracks.

LoFi Lounge Music – A downtempo track with a break beat that steadily introduces additional melodies. Is it downtempo or is it some type of drum and bass hybrid? You decide. It actually has multiple tempos throughout and it is complex. After Anthony Nicholson received the promo he replied that this track is “Brilliant”. I wish to thank him again.

Our next Seven Hills release Skies Over Sheffield returns the label to its Yorkshire roots. God’s own county yields this long-lost gem of a track courtesy of Sheffield legends and Bleep pioneers Forgemasters, with three new, home-grown remixes from John Shima, Luca Lozano and 96 Back to complement.

The Forgemasters trio: Winston Hazel, Sean Maher and Rob Gordon first gained acclaim with their now iconic, Track with No Name and hold prestige as the first to ever release on Warp Records (WAP1). Skies Over Sheffield however, has been waiting in the wings ever since its conception back in the early 90s; for nearly two decades the sun had stayed set over the track which lay nestled in an old recording of Winston Hazel’s Sheffield Community Radio from 1992. So we’re very proud to announce the long awaited dawn break of Skies Over Sheffield on Seven Hills Records.

The provenance of this record has always been close to our hearts here at Seven Hills; accordingly, we wanted to have a concept for the remixes that kept close ties to the Sheffield music scene. As such, we have two tracks from born and bred producers - John Shima and 96 Back - alongside one from longterm resident and honorary ‘Sheffielder’ Luca Lozano.

Following on from their inaugural release from A2 & Stopouts, OPIA sublabel Euphoric State welcomes the warm and analogue sounds of evergreen producer, Dan Piu. The Swiss producer is known for propelling vital, and ahead of their time sounds since the early 90’s. The ‘Let’s Come Together’ EP makes no exception as Piu showcases some of his catalogue ranging from 1994 -2020.

The aptly named ‘Bleepy at 5AM kicks off the EP, an early morning energiser with a spring in it’s step. Followed by and crafted in ‘94 is ‘El Viento De La Noche’, four and a half minutes of pure emotive bliss, a raw house vibe from the golden era.

B1 ‘Angry Giant Machine’ glides you through its twists and turns, a glitchy and playful number ready to make you move. ‘Mimic Human Form’ is a cross between modern Italo and mysterious electro, a curious outing with its low swung bassline, and swirling synths. Out of ‘99, and still sounding fresh is ‘Q.H.’, a straight up hip-hop energy, with dusty broken drums and rap samples. A fitting ending to a spectrum of sounds.

Part II of the remix 7 series" of Andy Vaz " Straight Vacationing "LP on Yore. Album Tracks getting a re-work on this little beauty are: "Detroit in me " remixed by Patrice Scott & "Stubnitz" remixed by Memory Foundation. Up first, Patrice Scott strips the "Got a little bit o' Detroit in me" vocal away from the "Detroit in Me" original in order to dazzle the listener with endless flurries of melodic and rhythmic cross-currents. Making good on the Detroit connection, Scott amplifies the tune's Motor City vibe with lavish helpings of synthesizers, claps, and hi-hats and amps up its hard-swinging acid-funk groove in the process. Memory Foundation's B-side version of "Stubnitz" locks solidly into a tight mechano-house pulse at the outset, which frees up all kinds of room for tenor sax player Andreas Pasternack to unleash his high-spirited wail. The treatments sound so good, one can't resist pulling out the original double album to sample its deep house sound all over again.A collectors Item, coming as transparent blue limited 7 for those who show appreciation for both the deep and having it on wax.

With releases under a range of pseudonyms (Orpheus, Sir Leon Greg, Nite Vision) and support for his previous explorations of depth coming from the likes of John Heckle, DJ Deep, Aroy Dee, Chicago Skyway and Steffi to name but a few; once again Perseus Traxx unashamedly shows his nature on this release. Thoughts, feelings and emotions are by far
the most important influences on music, and capturing moments then translating into a musical form he once again documents the more personal elements of his life, taking you deep.
Perseus weaves a rich tapestry of emotions and desires using heavily weighted bass tones and skipping percussion that thread together with expansive strings and pads. These are married with more detailed melodies and modulated tones that shimmer in and out of the psyche as he uses analogue boxes and their warmth like a loom. This collection of music ranges from the deep and dreamy, to total transcendence within steady dance floor rhythms clothed in a warm yet spacious fabric of sound. Deep House, sometimes with a real sense of urgency that juxtaposes with it's inherent flights of fancy.

Over the course of three EPs this year alone, Stones Taro has affirmed his skills as a producer with a rare talent for taking old school breakbeats and UK garage into fresh territory. Now the Kyoto-based artist raises his game with his new EP ‘Pump’, which will be released on October 23rd by Highball Records (HB003), the London-based label that exports forward-thinking music from Japan.

If you were enamoured by the playful rush of energy that Stones Taro captured earlier this year on ‘To Rave’, ‘Pump’ takes it to the next level. The title track quickly sets the agenda for what’s to follow: a maddeningly addictive loop, a flurry of breaks that emerge at an anarchic pace and a stuttering vocal sample that takes you back to early ‘90s house. Somehow Stones Taro has glanced back at the sounds that have preceded him and pushed them forwards.

The second track ‘I Want’ is more direct, again echoing ‘90s house but this time from the NYC scene. But still Stones Taro hasn’t peaked, with the manic beats of ‘Ride On The Ride’ recalling the intensity of Metalheadz’ ‘Platinum Breakz’ compilation. The closing ‘Understand’ changes the mood with fevered breaks contrasting a more melancholy ambience.

Stones Taro began his career in 2014 and debuted for Scuffed Recordings (ran by High Class Filter and Ian DPM) in 2017 with the acid house meets 2-step EP ‘Spiral Staircase’. Subsequent releases have largely been split between Scuffed and his own label, NC4K. His tracks have been included in mixes by the likes of Yaeji, DEBONAIR, Qrion and Pinz & Pelz, while media support has included Clash, Hyponik, Inverted Audio and The Ransom Note.

The second release on the Masaala label explores a brief time in the late 80s and early 90s, when musicians were fusing Acid House with Bhangra. One of Leicester's unsung DJ heroes was Cutmaster Singh, who for this record has revived a selection of his own edits from back in the day. Also included is Cutmaster Singh's massive 'Acid Agah', an unreleased 1994 dubplate that more recently you might have heard being championed by Mr Scruff.
