Following a wave of success with previous releases, Harold Boué aka Abstraxion is gearing up to release his debut LP, Break of Lights, via Have A Killer Time later this year. But first, the French DJ/producer & Biologic Records founder delivers his Moon EP in honor of the stunning single from the album complete with remix duties by Factory Floor, Death in Vegas and PVT. A befitting eponymous nod, 'Moon' is a captivating, celestial gem, ripe with flickering, twinkling synths. Almost seven minutes long, the track takes listeners on dreamy journey to new sonic horizons. Keeping true to their dystopian sensibilities, post-industrial London trio Factory Floor quicken and intensify the single's pulse while exuding a raw sense of urgency, resulting in a dancefloor banger. Taking a decidedly different approach, Death in Vegas offer a slowed-down, dusky take on 'Moon,' transforming the original to a moody, subdued after-hours gem. Last on the EP is Sydney-based experimental trio, PVT, whose dynamic, bubbling bassline and amplified, stuttered synths make for an irresistible closing remix. A melting pot of sound, the Moon EP is a promising glimpse of what's to come with Abstraxion ahead of his highly anticipated Break of Lights LP.

Building on a series of releases on labels like True Type Tracks, Illegal Alien Records, and Abstract Mechanisms, Roberto Espinosa launches his Visionary Rhythm designation with Micelio: Tecnocigalpa EP. Drawing inspiration from the natural methods of decomposition and regeneration (essentially the power of mushrooms), VR's first reference is a 3-tracker that combines social commentary with rhythmic analog and digital waves, reinforced with ceremonial shakers, percussion, and textures obtained by buried mics to propagate an elemental underground vibration; and integrates the sharpening of a machete with the hi-hats to provide the energy to cut through negativity.


Side A holds the Vocal Mix and Instrumental versions of Tecnocigalpa, a galloping track that challenges sub-woofers and intensely portrays a gloomy/dystopian reality to promote awareness with the aid of oscillators, filters, a tropical interplay of sounds and timeless delays. It is a future projection of a city breaking through the paradigm of fear, corruption and violence.


Side B contains Displacement: a percussive, synthesized and groovy journey through one of the cultural wounds of history starting in a valley of harmonious pads, moving on with Espinosa's keyboard improvisation, vocals, celebratory trumpet-like sounds, and a message of relief, one love and forward thinking.

Starting in 2004 with 'Made Within The Upper Stairs Of Heaven' and 2008 with 'Toinen', Lindblad has a tendency for symmetry, and now with the release of 'Third Encounter' in 2012 is no coincidence, just a scandinavian way of saying good things take their time and it's worth the wait. Analog synthesizers, sequencers and tape decks are something which are widely used in todays electronic music, but it is the mixture of the old and new - keeping the tradition of live jams instead of pre defined arrangements, choosing high standards in fidelity but keeping the rough feel to it - these elements together keep the sound of Sasse one step ahead of the competition, and why he is considered to be one of the most consistant producers in the scene. While 'Fingers Inc' and '707 Heaven' pays homage to the gold era of Detroit and Chicago house, songs like 'Analog City' and 'Fantazy' brings memories of the mid 90s Sasse material, true Deep House as it used to be done. While 'Alpha' and 'Der Groove' takes a naked live jam approach to how to abuse analog goodies, 'Low Slove' and 'Treat Me' are raw sample based tunes, perfect for a late night dj-set. The album Third Encounter showcases the 20 past years of Klas Lindblad as a musician, dj and sound engineer, one who's seen most of the modern musical styles evolve and dissolve. Always relying on the basic principles of Electronic Dance Music that less is more, Lindblad brings another fine full-lengt artist album out, surely to be considered his finest work til today.

Acido is already shaping up to be a club classic and never fails to cause a commotion.
ptimo Trax is an offshoot label of Optimo Music for tracks aimed at DJs/dancefloors. Yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didn't seem quite right for Optimo Music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. Like the parent label, Optimo Trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics.

The next two Optimo Trax releases are from Milan. This first one is four HOT tracks from two self-effacing Milanese maestros. "Acido" is already shaping up to be a club classic and never fails to cause a commotion; it has been thoroughly road tested throughout summer 2013. The other tracks cover all idiosyncratic bases from high grade Sleaze Funk to Spaghetti Western-infused, low-slung house.

Berlin head Mike Davis drops four tracks of uncompromising techno taking inspiration from the raw side of house music and 90's 303 acid culture, what makes this collection stand out is its freeness. It could be argued that the structure and arrangements fall more in line with jazz than traditional techno. Mike manages to avoid the constraints of techno production and delivers natural yet unpredictable arrangements. Themes and moods change throughout taking you on a journey through Berlin via Detroit.

3rd volume of our series "Moog Your Body". And back with the same formula, 4 artists that have passed through the legendary club barcelona. The album kicks off with "Mind Over Matter" from Abandoned Footwear, American Exillon project that delights us with a theme IDM cosmic touches that will make you dance endlessly acid. Then "Tempest 303" one lysergic Lash Roy Of The Ravers attacking with all his cacharreria to offer his sound classic acid. On the flip side, we have the theme "Trapped In A Fit Of Malaria" of Drvg Cvltvre a slow-cooked dark and hypnotic acid pump. With Eintakt's Acid Dub Tango release Dub Diary entitles a new chapter, a showroom for lively sound architecture.
This concept record navigates through layers of bubbly 303 acid patches, abyssal dub chords, and landmark variations. 'Her Lips' is an ode to summer joy, enriched with cheerful Tango-like accordion sequences. The deep spaced dub impulses were adopted from the original song by Matteo Pitton, now forming a unique combination of profound energetic festivity.
'Oriental Ladder' originally is a solo instrument song by Naftali, a talented Handpan player from Berlin. He plays his instrument spirited and multi-variant, following catchy and lovely arrangements. His percussion-like interpretation of playing is exceptional. Nowadays, Handpans make up the most searched instrument class in the world and its application to powerful electronic music is still rare - simply since the basic instrument character is strongly meditative.

Mystery man L.F.T. delivers the second EP for Woodwork. His poignant debut WOOD002 includes three original tracks and a remix by Benedikt Frey. A1 is a dreamy Rhodes journey roughened up by distorted 808 sounds. A2 is a melodic house track with a bubbly bassline juxtaposed against crunchy drums. On the flipside, B1 will take you into a laid-back acid house trip fueled by tons of Escorial. Benedikt Frey then twists the track into a trippy techno journey on B2.

This E.P. was taken from a larger project titled "Ancient Pond". It was offered earlier on the same label as a limited digital download.
Later, it was split into two different E.P. records (clear blue vinyl) to be released throughout this year.

The Rogue Cat swings into town yet again for this, the fourth time. In the guise of mislead-back-room-bass-bellowing miscreants, and in-keeping with their ethos of 'anything-goes-as-long-as-it-blows', RCS step up to the plate with another oddball belter of an E.P. In this excursion, warehouse-warlord The Rhythm Odyssey teams up with deep house botherer Benny Upsetter for a dirty and dishevelled dance floor detonation.

Firstly, they enter a 'Dazy Haze' with a little help of a grubby old kick, bleepy off-the-cuff percussion spasms and an unpredictable (schizophrenic even) bass line. Add to that sleazy, lowlife strings, all-over-the-shop synth stabs, dubbed up piano plinks and plonks and top it with some haunting & mysterious vocal chants and you're about there...'there', perhaps, being a place lacking in windows, with a single red light and a sticky floor.

The Rhythm Odyssey, on his own, leads you straight downstairs, no questions asked, by way of his 'Basement Version'; thus opting to go straight for the jugular and immediately sets the acid bass loose, whilst he strips everything else back a little, only to hit you full in the face with the smoke machine action about half way through and keeps you there until you sweat.

Finally, 'Outta-Ma-Phaze', lacking lucidity and social skills, it's perhaps 3...4...5...maybe 6am and things are blurry...the beat flickers along with uncertainty, phased synth chords moodily sit in the middle of the room, the bass line throws a strop and the Fender Rhodes appears muddied and worn out. Not sure what time it is, not sure what's going on......but sure do feel like dancing!

Shipwrec continues to carve out its own sonic universe with this new EP from a mysterious Detroit outfit, The Valley And The Mountain (aka TVTM). The identities behind TVTM remain unknown, but they have released on Belgium's cult label WeMe and in 2013 surfaced with their Assembly Required EP. Across five cuts here they explore crunchy, richly musical ambient, electro and slo-mo techno. First is 'Uncharted Systems', a slow and meandering cut full of atmosphere and metallic synths. Acid lines, lazy claps and smeared pads all add to the sense of drama and its fair to say this is a hugely unique sounding track. 'Detxploit' then picks up the pace with tough arps, chattering clap and filtered vocal musings that walkabout Detroit as the tension builds and the electro vibes grow stronger. 'Chasing Magnetic Particles' is then a beatless, abstract bit of futuristic synth work with twinkles, breaking wave like sounds, pained lines and undulating modulations all stretching out for the duration. 'Rockfall' is a serene and bittersweet affair with crunchy drums, poignant, cutting chords and gurgling synths, a rusty coloured soundscape that makes you feel and think as much as dance. Lastly, 'Outer Reaches' is a downbeat brew of slapping drums and apocalyptic dark disco moods that, like the EP overall, is woozy and intoxicating.

More vinyl only business from the Bristol based Just Jack camp, this time from firm fave Amir Alexander under his Richie Ratchet moniker.

3 Shit hot tracks on MB's debut for Bio Rhythm... What can we say 'The Miracle Sign' hit us by surprise... Title track is a beautiful and epic journey in techno soul quite rare to hear these days, reminding a bit of early nineties Detroit/UK techno and even some of the early Speedy J works, all with nowadays production skills. Stunning contemporary techno the classic way. Then from heaven to hell with '60606', an evil distorted acidic drum track guaranteed to damage kids brains worldwide... But no time to think long anyway cause there's 'We Only Have', an autistic out-of-the-box jack track providing a sneaky tool for the more adventurous dj. This will separate the gurners from the dancers. Top-notch showcase by the unstoppable man-machine that is Marco Bernardi..!

Back at it again, taking the true essence of the "jacking" sound of Chicago house and putting it's own stamp on it is what Obsolete Music Technology has done with their new 12" entitled, "Volatile." Warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! For dance floors only! You have been warned!

"Volatile" starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! Just when you think that's all to the track; dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-FEAR! Rounding out the A-side is "Killin," with it's 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. Riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off.

On the B-side, "Broken Siren" is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. Setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. Lastly, "Electric Current" best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums.

Pitched somewhere between the molasses gloop of 'Acid Tracks' and his more gospel moments, Pierre's Phantasy Club was a vocal project that, without reaching the heights of some of his more momentous Wild Pitch productions and remixes, still showed his versatility.
"I'll put the bug in you it'll make you stay, I'll plant it it'll never go away". We believe you, Pierre.

Banging DXR tracks from the vaults!!!

Considering the combined talents of Detroit veteran Terrence Dixon and Black Jazz Consortium man Fred P, you'd expect this split EP for Finale Sessions to be a lesson in warm, soul-flecked depth. Pleasingly, that's exactly what it delivers. Dixon excels with the sub-sporting alien futurism of "To The Bridge" - the aural equivalent of staring into space while dancing to electronic jazz - and the sumptuous, minor key bliss of the casual deep house jam "Starting Over". Fred P, meanwhile, delivers two contrasting cuts. There's some acid-fuelled deep house futurism in the shape of "Circuit", and a chunk of bongo-laden dancefloor humidity in "The Road", whose rising strings and sweet melodies are arguably the highlight of a superb EP.

Finally Repressed!
Todd Osborn ftw again. This time with music to go with the beats: acid, house, idm and lots of fun. Starts with two mixes of 'Put Your Weight On It". One for lazy DJs from Frankfurt and a shorter one for hard working Windy City selectors - in any case heavy stuff. Flip features the softer side of the Michigan maestro with the downtempo love poem 'Medium' and the contemplative 'Markert". Todd is g(o)od.

After dancing with HNNY under the disco ball and staying up late listening to Mella Dee's warehouse tracks it's time to go visit Detroit with Esa.

Have a listen to Umatic 3000 and you'll understand why Tooli started sweating while listening to the demo the first time.
Futuristic and deep dance music from a space ship that crashed somewhere in Detroit. 8/8 (Son Op) on the flip is a dramatic interlude that leads straight into Big Snoek, a track that both sounds and smells like a modern Global Communication tribute.

Inspired by the success of last summer's retrospective on Poker Flat, Steve Bug takes up his Traffic Signs moniker once more for a fabulous jam that more than merits the 10-year wait. The uncredited tunes that first came out under this name were classic jack tracks that devastated dancefloors - and 'Cookie Jar' is a more than worthy successor. This is stripped-down house, Chicago-esque, direct and determined to make you move. Berlin legend Jake The Rapper adds downright dirty humour with a spoken vocal fit for an age of internet sextapes and celebrity photo hacking. 'I like what you're cookin. Those cookies smell goooood,' he rascalously declares. Three mixes sprinkle the musical equivalent of chocolate chips, pecans and Brazilian stardust over the original. Steve Bug makes fine adjustments for the club, bouncing around the kick drums and doubling the synth riff with strings, while Joyce Muniz's dark, strobing treatment adds a dirty bass line for sexy, sweat-drenched dancefloors everywhere. Stripping away the vocal on the dub, Muniz's production talents are all the more scintillating, irresistibly kinetic from beginning to end. The brilliant video for 'Cookie Jar' has been created by swiss-french duo Ben & Julia, who let us take part in their playful, colorful and surreal world that suits the song so well.

This compilation is the second release for vinyl-exclusive label Volt Music. The tracks were hand picked for their subtle strokes of emotion, and smooth movements. Although the music varies in genre, from deep house, dub techno, trip hop and atmospheric acid, the compilation comes together much like an artwork of different colors with one underlining theme.

Prime Direct Distribution welcome New London imprint Fancy Human to their ever expanding label roster, the label collective consists of Leigh Morgan, Rob King and Tom Coulling. Their first release, 'Made in Jupiter' is a fusion of deep hypnotic and discofied house grooves, and is set for release in late April on vinyl.

Leigh has been involved in the deep house scene for over 15 years, having A&R'd and run the widely respected Urban Torque imprint since it's inception in 2001, and also compiling the popular Urban Torque Transmissions Radio Show, now in to it's ninth year. Rob and Tom, life long friends since training as musicians in their teens, have been working together as Lucatwana for the past two years with some initial output on Bad Life and Numerology Records.

With Urban Torque on hiatus for the time being, Fancy Human now provides an outlet for both Leigh's solo material and Lucatwana's brand of funk.

Following the colossal success of the Terry Farley compiled 'Acid Rain', we're proud to announce the incredible follow-up and worthy companion, 'Acid Thunder'. Once again compiled by House expert Terry Farley, 'Acid Thunder' continues the journey of its predecessor with another collection of 58 incredibly influential House Music releases from the Vintage era of the sound, namely, 1985-1991. In addition, we are delighted to have finally managed to unearth 25 key tracks from one of House Music's most influential labels, D.J. International. As with 'Acid Rain', all tracks have been immaculately re-mastered and have never sounded better. This collection also contains numerous tracks which have never been on compilations or available since their original release. Sleeve- notes this time are courtesy of Jacob Arnold, founder and curator of the hugely influential House Music website, Gridface. Once again, we have included a 32 page booklet containing all scans plus photos, flyers and other memorabilia from the archives of Terry Farley and Jacob Arnold. Anopolis are a collective of four Thessaloniki based producers coming together for their first release on Lower Parts. More specifically they are based in the Ano Poli area of the city, hence the name. From warm analog pads to screaming acid lines combined with raw beats, Anopolis provides a 90s mix tape vibe with a wide mixture of styles and sounds. Included is a storming remix from Elec PT.1 aka Andreas Gehm, The Minister, Manager 111.

The EP starts with Anopolis 2, a long, disco flavored track, built up gradually with phasing pads , lead melodies and an arpeggiated square bass line. The hypnotic feeling of Anopolis 5 is up next taking things deeper and textural while Anopolis 11 stands strong with it's relentless acid loop juxtaposed with sharp drums washed in reverb. The final track of the EP arrives in the form of a remix of Anopolis 2 by Elec pt.1 creating a mysterious and sinister atmosphere. The latest chapter in the electronic evolution of guitarist John Frusciante features a new project under his Trickfinger guise and has him utilizing the classic hardware that spawned the eternal acid template. Frusciante's desire to cede control to machines has paradoxically allowed him to present a singular take on elemental dance music, a brilliant and unexpected entry into Acid Test's growing canon of modern, 303-focused dance music.

Words from the Artist
I started being serious about following my dream to make electronic music, and to be my own engineer, five years ago. For the 10 years prior to that, I had been playing guitar along with a wide range of different types of programmed synthesizer and sample based music, emulating as best as I could, what I heard. I found that the languages machines forced programmers to think in had caused them to discover a new musical vocabulary. The various forms of electronically generated music, particularly in the last 22 years, have introduced many new principles of rhythm, melody, and harmony. I would learn what someone had programmed but their thought process eluded me. Programmers, particularly ones fluent on machines from the early 80s and/or tracker programs from the 90s, clearly had a theoretical foundation in their employ but it was not the theory I knew from pop/rock, jazz or classical. The hands relationship to the instrument accounts for so much of why musicians do what they do, and I had come to feel that in pop/rock my mind was often being overpowered by my hand, which I had a strong desire to correct. I was obsessed with music where machine intelligence and human intelligence seemed to be bouncing off one another, each expanding with the incorporation of what it received from the other.

In 2007 I started to learn how to program all the instruments we associate with Acid House music and some other hardware. For about 7 months I didn't record anything. Then I started recording, playing 10 or so synced machines through a small mixer into a CD burner. This was all experimental Acid House, my skills at making rock music playing no part in it whatsoever. I had lost interest in traditional songwriting and I was excited about finding new methods for creating music. I'd surround myself with machines, program one and then another and enjoy what was a fascinating process from beginning to end. I was so excited by the method of using numbers much in the same way I'd used my muscles all my life. Skills that had previously been applied by my subconscious were gradually becoming conscious, by virtue of having numerical theoretical means of thinking about rhythm, melody and sound.

In summary, Acid served as a good starting point for me, very gradually leading me to be able to combine whatever styles of music I want, as a one man band.' - John

In our corner of leftfield dance music, there are not many of our heroes that we haven't had the pleasure of hosting on Circus Company. From the early days of Ark and Akufen to Robag Wruhme, Deetron and Franck Roger, we are privileged to have welcomed some genuine legends onto our label, and now we are honoured to add another all-time great to the list; SoulPhiction. Michel Baumann has long been a steadfast measure of everything 4/4 electronic music should be, both as SoulPhiction and Jackmate and as a curator of Philpot Records. Coming up from the same hip hop roots that inspired Circus Co. in the beginning, he channels a sample-fuelled, jazz-inflected sound that would buckle under the weight of the soul contained within were it not for the strength and presence of his rhythm section. With the pair of cuts he shares with us, all aspects of his lifetime's service are represented in fine style. The Aside swinger 'Glitz' comes rocking in on the kind of kinky groove that tickles our limbs just right, taking time for the beat to settle before unfurling a sumptuous funk lick and a bittersweet vocal hook that tugs at the hips and the heart strings. Meanwhile on the flip 'Jinx' provides a futuristic acid treatment, laying out a rigid drum machine mantra and bubbling 303 as a backbone. Meanwhile starlit techno synths dart around the mix with a highly-evolved purpose that eschews any concerns about throwback house music - this is strictly the sound of tomorrow, as techno was always meant to be.

"Again" is a rolling 10 minute trip, with twists and turns along the way. "Blocks" with it's tougher, blockier beats.
Maeve is the record label run by three close friends, Mano Le Tough, The Drifter and Baikal. Maeve 04 is The Drifter's debut on the label, and his first original music since late 2012 for Permanent Vacation. "Again" showcases a tougher side to his productions.
The Again EP consists of 2 tracks, both aimed firmly at the dancefloor. "Again" is a rolling 10 minute trip, with some twists and turns along the way. "Blocks" with it's tougher, ahem, blockier beats and soaring synths is a more upfront affair.

Glasgow's Mia Dora are responsible for the last Optimo Trax EP of 2014. This release came about after they sent the track Un.sub to Twitch earlier in the year. He went nuts over its cowbell delirium bump n' grind and it has been a constant secret weapon in his sets all year. When he found out it wasn't scheduled for release a notion formed for Optimo Trax to put it out and a few months later the Mia Dora guys delivered three other tracks to form an EP, including a track in collaboration with long time Glasgow doyen MASH.

We live in a time of hyperbole overdose. We are told everything is "amazing", "essential", "massive", "killing it", "smashing it" etc. etc. to the point where we no longer given credit to make up our own minds. Optimo Trax attempts to cut through the bullshit by releasing records that hopefully speak for themselves. The label only releases tracks that we would play ourselves in a dj set and that we think will stand the test of time. We pride ourselves in having 27 years experience in this field and are happy if it takes time for people to catch on to our releases. If someone discovers our records in 2019 we believe they will still be as eminently playable in clubs as the day they were made. This is why our releases are all AA sides as we have 100% confidence in every track we release. With regards to the Un.sub EP, it was very difficult to decide which track should sit where on the EP as all four tracks could have been the A1. Think of this release a quadruple A side. If any of these fail to work on a dancefloor we will offer a full refund (and also offer tips on where you might be going wrong).

Mia Dora and Optimo Trax thus give you four tracks of dancefloor delight, from Glasgow, with love. To celebrate our first year of releases, for this release, the usual Optimo Trax trademark red and black sleeve will be modified to be a blue and white one, representing the Scottish flag. As internationalists, we are generally opposed to flags but 2014 is a momentous year in our country's history and also, in our opinion the best year ever for music being produced here, so we felt like celebrating these things.

For their next release Crème Organisation turn to an emerging producer in the form of young Belgian Innershades. With but one previous release on Ukraine's Wicked Bass label, little is known of the man other than the fact that he produces heavyweight techno with a purposeful and dubbed out menace. The first cut here, 'Nina At The Boiler Room' is a mid tempo stomper with grainy textures and musky ambiance run through with a wild acid line and classic pinging cowbells. It's potent and feverish and forever builds to a peak, at which point a searching horn sound surveys the desolate landscapes. 'No Stoppin' is more like dub house, shrouded as it is in plenty of echo, delay and rueful and romantic pads. Last cut 'The Future' is the most up beat and peak time of the lot. It's a bouncy, nimble bit of analogue house with sombre pads, busy melodies and a healthy scattering of percussion that brings plenty of kineticism to the mix. Three fine tracks that will surely have the world keeping an eye on Innershades from here on in.

The one and only Disco Nihilist is 'Moving Forward". Mike Taylor's second EP for Running Back is turning the curve ball of the first into a wild pitch (if Baseball metaphors are your thing). 4 tracks across the Disco Nihilist spectrum: The rare cheerfulness of 'House Rent Boogie' is backed up with a classic and no-nonsense RZ-1 beat symphony that is aptly titled 'Beatdown Drums", while the flip presents the masked mania of 'Film Grain' and some grumpy grittiness with 'Operator Select". Mastered and cut in the US of A by legendary engineer Mark Richardson at Prairie Cat.

This various artist vinyl compilation features tracks from DJ Spider, Dakini9, Hakim Murphy and Phil Moffa. This combines all of the elements that Plan B is famous for: deep, dark, dance floor alchemy. Originally released on CD, these tracks are now available on vinyl.

Not embellished by any ideologies, nostalgic coryza or a lack of ideas, Styles serves three prime cuts with gravy sauce: 'Montana' is a floating piece of break-beat science fiction house that gets backed up by ferocious bonus beats; 'Hot!' is exactly that with a twist on a historical bass line, infectious vocal snippets (check the loop in the run-out grooves if you cannot get enough of them) and perfect timing; while 'Sixty Ways' makes use of Dinky's vocal skills and the everlasting question about the nature of love. Nach Marco returns to Ovum to kick off 2015! Nach Marco returns to ovum with Warm Trax Vol 1. Nacho debuted on Ovum with his 2013 release 'Ghosts' EP. The EP received critical acclaim and found it way into the box of a diverse group of DJ. One of the most acclaimed DJ's and producers from Spain, Nacho's history is evident in his productions. He is as comfortable making a peak time acid track to making deep house tracks that harken to productions of Mr Fingers. Nacho is clearly influenced by the early sound of Chicago house and acid house and delivers a modern twist on what is a timeless sound. Tokyo's deep master Stereociti is back on Mojuba, after his well received 12 Dailog he is returning with a new EP called Rain. Despite the name, the title track is an uplifting grooving house tune, that will draw the people to the floor and make them dance! The two tracks on the flip side will take you on a extended dark hypnotic trip into the realm of Stereociti's very own sound universe, enjoy the ride!

With a new label and a new EP we're beginning to unravel the new stage in Nathan Fake's musical development. Following a departure from Border Community, Nathan Fake and former associate of Border Community Wesley Matsel have together formed a new co-operative 'Cambria Instruments', which sets to highlight the eccentricities of both producers; or as Fake describes, "new esoteric melodies and textures previously unheard from both artistsî. 'Black Drift', the inaugural transmission from C.I. demonstrated the kind of broken beats heard on 'Steam Days' and hinted towards a utilitarian sound aimed directly at the dancefloor.

Just as 'Black Drift' hinted towards a contemporary sound pallette, 'Glaive EP' confirms that Fake is on the outside looking in, "I've been listening to more music than usual lately, just trawling the internet for weird stuff. I usually shut myself off from most current things when I'm working on a record". Fake however doesn't want to feed the demand for club conventions and cliches, instead he creates tracks to progress his ever expanding live set, creating new edits and tracks on stage, while pulling material from his previous releases. "I'm trying to make the live versions sound pretty different to the recorded versions, I'll redraw a synth part or make some new beats."

To complete such a feat you'd imagine an array of cutting edge equipment surrounding a glowing silver laptop, but the reality is quite the opposite: "I've always been totally turned off by the idea of owning expensive/high-end equipment..". At home Fake's persistence to push his rudimentary equipment to the extreme continues. "Glaive was started with a couple of kick drum sounds I'd made on the SH-09. I've always loved the idea of using quite 'crap' sounds and putting them in the context of a proper track".

Once the sounds are accumulated Fake records his performance on the fly in a similar setup to his live performance, giving 'Glaive EP' its unconventional structure and forward momentum. Just as his live performances feed off his released material, the disciplines learned on stage feedback into his recordings, creating an internal loop that allows Nathan Fake to ignore the ever accumulating divisions in electronic music. Whereas other electronic artists focus their attention on subverting the latest trend, Fake chooses to observe and then ignore conventions, releasing EPs like Glaive that are singular and striking from just about any perspective.

After a short time out Carry On is back with a new vinyl release by Berlin based producer J.E.E.P. - also known as Jules Etienne. The EP is Jules second solo effort under his new J.E.E.P. moniker. The charismatic original tracks Answering Machine and Pager are backed up with club friendly reinterpretations of the title track done by the two befriended Berlin sound magicians Quarion and Iron Curtis. Quite rightly labelled one of Berlin's best kept musical secrets, Jules is an ambitious multi-instrumentalist, singer and a composer. Unable to settle down into a music genre he is part of numerous enthusiastic projects ranging from folky pop to disco and house. For his most recent releases he teamed up with people like Daniel Wang, Massimiliano Pagliari (Egyptian Nipples) and Quarion (The Hints).

Compass Point, Muscle Shoals, Sun Studios, Studio One, Cargo Studios, Spaceward Studios : all seminal recording studios. Here in Glasgow we are very fortunate to have Green Door Studio which is a free thinking hub for wild, original creativity and great sounding analogue recordings. Several Optimo Music releases including Golden Teacher were born out of recording sessions there and indeed, this will be the 6th release on Optimo Music to be recorded at Green Door. They deserve credit as my secret A&R division occasionally getting in touch and saying, "We think you might like this..." which inevitably leads to me scraping my brain off the floor and deciding I have to release it as a record asap. This 5-track EP by Whilst was the latest transmission from Green Door that my ears fell in love with. How to describe it I have no idea except to say that it is wildly inventive and incredibly free music made by several individuals who are unnervingly young to be making these sounds. They describe themselves as follows -

"Formed originally as a jam-based project in the ever-fertile analogue studio 'Green Door', Whilst jump seamlessly between free jazz, primitive electronics, dubby post-punk, North African and motorik stlyings, underpinning their sound with a strong punk ethos".

ow-key producer Youandewan presents his first release of 2014 - a self-titled suite of deep, jacking dance tracks on Aus Music. First on the A-side is the swinging, acid-flecked 'Tino", kicking things off on a moody tip before the steady-groovin' 'Alright Son' goes to a duskier, deeper place, keeping the jacking feel of the first track intact but smoothing things out with dreamy pads and looped, spoken vocals. 'FM Jam' is the star of the B-side, presented first in its original form with disco-esque bass, soulful vocals, gentle keys and the titular FM synths. This makes it all-too-perfect remix material for Andrés, who applies his signature vibe and smooths it out even further into a soulful neo-disco-house cruiser. Already a seasoned remix veteran and prolific producer of varying styles, the young Youandewan shows off more of his soulful side while keeping things unpredictable, exciting, and moving ever-forwar

The excellent Cinematic label charges into 2014 with a meaty new Various ArtistEP that features tracks by label head Soy Mustafa, acid man Jared Wilson, dub specialist XDB and relative newcomer City 2 City.

Both Soy and City 2 City have previously appeared on a vinyl only sub label of Chez Damier's Balance Recordings with essential house offerings and come up with the goods once again here. New Detroit hero Jared Wilson, meanwhile, has been making waves with his searing acid techno on labels like Skudge and Grecian XDB has long been a champion of deep, droning dub on labels like Echochord and Sistrum.

Up first is the label head's 'Delphic Times'. The track is beautifully deep and
spacious, meaning the subtle melodies have plenty of room in which to float
about as slinky percussive lines undulate above bottomless drums. It's a clean, atmospheric track that packs a seriously emotional punch before XDB's 'Violi' comes over as a much more edgy and busy affair. Rooted in dark dubby chambers, impish little synth lines dart about like fire flies in the night and drag your attention with them. Purposeful but poised, it's another serene and sublime concoction from one of the day's most revered producers.
On the flip, City 2 City aka gets extremely atmospheric on his sci-fi tinged and cosmically inclined deep house vision, 'Way of Life'.

Lush synths variously lash about like sheets of metal, but also get smeared across the whole face of the track as techno leaning percussion scurries along below. It's moody, Detroit referencing stuff that brings classic Planet E material to mind before the EP is closed down in face melting, dancefloor destroying style by Jared Wilson. His rasping, frantic acid cut is a bristling brew of analogue lines, itchy hi hats and gurgling synths that will arrest the attention of any dancefloor.

This stunning EP is an essential offering for fans of genuinely raw and emotive house music that showcases four very real talents at their absolute best.

Marcus Mumm aka Das Muster returns to SolarOneMusic with the Reaktionszeit EP, the last part of the "Elektronische Werke" series. After releases on Transient Force and contributions for different compilations for labels such as Abstract Forms, Bass Agenda or Alek Stark's Fundamental Records, Marcus drops this great 12" full of minimalistic, cold and dark electro music. Limited Edition!

The second release on TEARS OF JOY features 2 club tracks cut live to tape in a dark warehouse on Skid Row. Limited edition of 252 with hand stamped sleeves and insert. B-side is "CHILDREN BURNING". FYI: The label is run by one of the members of PACIFIC HORIZONS

What does a rave sound like the next day The strobe lights in a dark warehouse, the pounding kick, the blur of ecstatic faces lead to a morning-after emptiness, all fade into memories of the friends you once had. On Ode, Tin Man (proper name Johannes Auvinen) explores this feeling, offering tracks which possess an exhausted joy, the aural equivalent of the stretch of time beginning when the last record is played and stretching on towards the doleful contemplation of last night's unmade sheets. Appropriately, Tin Man's melancholic dance music is more club-ready than ever. The opening tracks explore the spacious atmosphere first proposed on Neo Neo Acid and the (recently repressed) Acid Test 01 collaboration with Donato Dozzy. Auvinen continues to coax unique, bittersweet sounds out of the 303 - his control is akin to a virtuosic theremin player, all dramatic lunges and dynamics. Yet on tracks like Depleted Serotonin, the memories of half-remembered nights surface. That track reprises the minor-key rave breakdown, ending with nearly three-minutes of knackered techno throb. Similarly, 'What a Shame' sounds like a forgotten Warp classic run through Tin Man's palette of tasteful reserve. Always conceptual, Tin Man is commenting on big room techno music by presenting his thoughtful, hungover version of it. On Vertigo, he reins in the acid box acrobatics - opting instead for a rudimentary, early-Chicago style pattern, eventually following optimistic chords skyward. It's a simulacrum of that end-of-the-night moment when the music is so charged and utopic that all fatigue is forgotten. Auvinen's recognized talent to imbue machines with complex human emotion draws us into his world.

New Beat, the musical genre:
A late 80's/early 90's short-lived, local and amazing underground dance movement from Belgium. It main influence is to be found in the EBM/New Wave/Industrial musical genre (Throbbing Gristle, Neon Judgement, Front 242) with a typical extra slowed down tempo signature. New Beat ruled the dancefloors, eventually evolved to harder sounds, took the charts by storm without the help of the radios. It was independant and out of control before being commercially exploited to death by the most unscrupulous and then collapsed.

Ro Maron, the Artist:
Before the explosion of the New Beat scene in 1988, multi-instrumentist & producer extraordinaire Rembert De Smet enjoyed popular success with his group 2 Belgen.
He was one of the early bird to got on the New Beat train, locked himself deep into the studio and started producing music non-stop: sometimes solo under the monicker Ro Maron or Agaric, sometimes with collaborators like Ferre Baelen from TC Matic or Maurice Engelen from Praga Khan.
Producing without a pause and getting it out a week after was the plan, as one knew that this golden era wouldn't last forever, only some of the music would.
Mainly released on now defunct labels like Kaos Dance, Antler Subway, Dance Opera or MG Records to name a few, the best of it and beyond is compiled here.
