After a much celebrated return earlier this year, Lory D is back with his second release on Wireblock. The whole of side A is dedicated to an intense 8 minute long minimal acid track. It's kind of a cliché to say "this track takes you on a journey" or whatever, but never has a cliché been more apt than in this case

Minilogue - Snake Charmer Ep

This latest offering is one hell of a coup, with Swedish techno forerunners Minilogue's sophomore Wagon Repair release. Following in the footsteps of 2007's 'Elephant's Parade', the Malmo duo have also released on such luminary labels as Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels and Traum Schallplatten. T

First they changed colour, then they got together and finally, they formed up. Everything happened really quickly. In the beginning, the people of Berlin of course found it rather difficult to get used to it. In fact, it really did look a bit weird: a huge, red tower consisting of billions of blazing red glow worms and all this happening right in the middle of Berlin-Kreuzberg

Brame & Hamo
01.01.0107

Brame & Hamo are back with the third release on their eponymous imprint. 'Trants' and 'Club Orange' effortlessly upheld the Berlin based duo's reputation for dancefloor ready hits, with the latter selling out in one day. Picking up where the others left off, 'Limewire EP' is a nod to their early influences channelling house, techno, trance and breakbeat. Over three tracks, Brame & Hamo brandish the party starting spirit they are rapidly becoming known for. Broken beats feature heavily alongside subtle acid licks, uplifting harmonies and sweltering synth lines. 'Parade Rain' is a peak time house roller with pulsing bass, meditative pads and airy pipes that polish it off to make a fine rendition to early 90's house. 'Sports Complex' the darkest of the EP, builds an intense energy with a heavy hitting 808 , shuttering reflections, a driving 303 line topped off with a trance-inducing melody that makes this into a big room bomb. The title track is a breakbeat workout honing a classy piano riff complimented with emotional synths, strings and more acid lines, a fruit for clarity. Finally 'Tuff City Kids' aka Gerd Janson & Lauer round it up with a club ready interpretation of their title track, adding more drum layers, a jittering bassline and a simple but effective melody to finish it off. 'Limewire' EP finds the duo exploring a range of influences, expertly referencing various styles whilst still weighing in the sound that is now unmistakably theirs.

Alabama 3 - Exile On Coldharbour Lane

They have been called, amongst other things, "the best live band in Britain." Their music has graced everything from The Sopranos to The Simpsons, and celebrity fans include Irvine Welsh and the world's biggest selling author, Stephen King. They are undoubtedly the greatest American act the UK ever did produce, and their heady combination of techno and C&W, alongside a proclivity for rock 'n' roll decadence and an acute social conscience means that they are effectively a unique entity in modern music. Exile on Coldharbour Lane is the debut album by Alabama 3, originally released in 1997. The name and cover are references to Exile on Main St. by The Rolling Stones and Coldharbour Lane a major street in Brixton, South London best known for containing several after-hours clubs. Upon its release, the album received favourable reviews, including an 8.9 review from Pitchfork Media. The song "Sister Rosetta" was featured in the film "Barnyard". "Woke Up This Morning" is best known as the opening theme music for the television series, The Sopranos, which used the "Chosen One Mix" of that song.

Anatolian Weapons - Selected Acid Tracks

At the vanguard of Greek electronic music, Anatolian Weapons, an alias of Aggelos Baltas, has garnered praise from the likes of Lena Willikens and RA. This is a deliberately dancefloor oriented release, with a host of long acid laced tracks, and some surprises. The titles offer a subtle nod to a recently passed DJ and polymath, and the remixes give a fresh feel to Aggelos’ tracks, with Serbian selector AASKA and Coma World on duty. The remixes give a fresh feel to Aggelos’ tracks, with AASKA breathing downtempo energy into ‘Only Harmony Seeds’, and Byrd Out associates Coma World (Betamax and Pete Bennie) imbuing ‘Other Paths’ with a dreamlike spirit driven by Betamax’s treacle-like drumming.

Bat Girls & Acid Boys - The Spontaneous Drawings of Leigh Bowery & Friends

The wild years of the 1980s and early 1990s, when central London was a clubbers' paradise... a circle of young, queer friends, including the celebrated Australian designer, performer, musician, and provocateur Leigh Bowery and his Minty bandmates, would get together at Richard Torry's Soho flat before hitting the town.
To pass the time, the troupe would sometimes make “exquisite corpses”, employing a technique popular with the Surrealists to create compound images of often outrageous characters.
Collected here for the first time are over 100 of their wild creations, acerbic observations and beautiful monsters.

DRMCNT - RX-Bounces
  • 1: Negative Response
  • 2: Brudenel Dreams
  • 3: Galdem
  • 4: Reality In Dreams
  • 5: Hummdinger
  • 6: True Supplier
  • 7: Uncase
  • 8: Tea And The Tree

He's back and in full effect. Rhys Llewellyn aka DRMCNT finally drops his long awaited 'RX-Bounces' set on the ever wonderful Wrong Speed Records and it doesn't disappoint from beginning to end. Armed with his minimal Roland / Yamaha set up he gets to work making some seriously jumpy electronic jams that put a whole heap of producers out there to shame. From the get-go you're in. 'Negative Response' is a clipped electro breaker in the 430 West mode while 'Brudenel Dreams' starts one way then flips completely the other with a very clever bass drum and hi-hat riddim. Seriously good. Seriously fun for all. 'Galdem' takes the action a bit deeper with its submerged drums and off kilter beats while 'Reality In Zero' adds some solar sci-fi on top of its oriental percussion. Watch those bins with the Hardflooresque 'Hummdinger', check the chopped up breaks on 'True Supplier', get inside the nagging bassline on 'Uncase' and then let it all drift away with the closing 'Tea And The Tree'. It's all here. It's all amazing. One of the best electronic albums of the year hands down. You need this - Chris Summers, Rough Trade Records

Eliot Lipp - Peave Love Weed 3D

Originally released in 2009, Eliot Lipp’s album “Peace Love Weed 3D” covers a lot of ground in ten songs. The record’s style explores instrumental electro-funk, acid, fusion and even italo-disco sounds.

The album began as a collection of loose sketches made on various drum machines and synthesizers recorded to tape. This source tape was then cut apart, resampled, and enhanced with the addition of more samples and live instrumentation. Lipp chose to work for the first time with a studio guitarist. He met Guitar Ron in the subway station close to his studio in NYC. Throughout this album his efforts blend perfectly with Lipp’s exquisite taste in sound as the synth and guitar leads weave effortlessly in between thick chords and complex drums.

Peace Love Weed 3D was originally released on Eliot’s own label Old Tacoma Records January 27th, 2009 and now receives it’s long overdue, first ever vinyl pressing through frequent collaborators YHS Records.

Paperback: 320 pages
Product Dimensions: 12.9 cm x 19.8 cm x 2.3 cm

• An overview of clubbing scenes and sounds in British cities and towns from pre-acid house to now including London, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Margate, Todmorden and many more.
• An exploration of the spaces where club music exists from the past to the present and where this could be in the future as our cities become more populated and lives more digitalised.
• Connects themes and trends in the evolution of clubs, raves, squat parties, pirate radio and soundsystem culture in the context of these urban environments.
• Features more than 100 interviews with DJs, promoters, ravers, venue owners and visionaries who have helped make UK club/rave culture happen including Norman Jay, Bill Brewster, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, DJ Rap, Slam, DJ Storm, DJ Paulette, Chris Liberator, Geeneus, Mark Moore, Josey Rebelle, Joe Rush,John Klett (Despacio), Ashley Beedle, Caspar Melville and many more.

Since the dawn of time, humans have had the urge to come together and move to music. It may have started in caves but these days it happens in clubs often found in the shady corners of our towns and cities. Or at least it did until these places began to march to the beat of property developers rather than DJs. In London in the five years to 2016, half of the clubs were lost while a further quarter have been removed in the devastation of Covid. So what now?

At this critical moment, ‘Out of Space’ plots a course through the spaces and unlikely locations club culture has found a home. From Glasgow to Margate via Manchester, Sheffield and unlikely dance music meccas such as Coalville and Todmorden, it maps the key cities and towns where electronic music has thrived, it currently dances and the spaces it might be headed to next.

The book explores how urban landscapes have acted as a home for other shades of club music too such as pirate radio, dance music festivals, soundsystem culture and more. As our lives become increasingly digitised and real estate more valuable in the 21st century, Out of Space looks at the new clubbing models emerging to anticipate the future relationship between the shifting politics of space and sound.

Rather than an epitaph, this is a rallying cry and celebration of the club’s resilience based on a lifetime of getting wide-eyed inside them.

“Jim has been in the trenches of the club scene as early as I can remember absorbing different sounds, spaces and musical cultures. He’s truly immersed in the scene and has a genuine passion for clubland and all things related.” Toddla T (Artist/Producer/DJ)

Korea Town Acid - Elephant In The Room

Korea Town Acid (Jessica Cho) is wildly creative. She is an electronic artist at her core, but that barely scratches the surface of what her sound encompasses. Citing influences as UK future bass, glitch, jungle, and alternative hip hop, KTA fuses these sounds with concepts of movement and texture, to create multi-faceted works that go beyond the club. Born in Seoul, Korea, Toronto based DJ/Producer Korea Town Acid maintained a fierce but mindful schedule amidst pandemic induced lockdowns. With the ease of restrictions and the gradual return to a version of normalcy, KTA continues to thrive, without hitting pause. In 2021 she released her full length LP Metamorphosis, a self produced ten-track record, featuring collaborations from Toronto based artist DESIIRE, U.K based Korean pianist and rapper Pianwooo, Seoul rapper PNSB, L.A beatmaker Dreamdave, and New Jersey MC, L.J The Alien. She swiftly followed that up six months later with the release of Cosmos, another self produced full length LP that boasts the 2022 Juno Award nominated track, ‘Sobriety’. She also contributed to Cadence Weapon’s 2021 Polaris Prize winning record Parallel World, producing the track ‘Play No Games’. Despite touring restrictions in 2021, KTA delivered a notable hardware set as part of Hinter Live, showcased at POP Montreal, and continued her monthly online residency at The Lot Radio in New York. Korea Town Acid released her latest LP, Elephant in The Room, via URBNET. The twelve track self produced and mixed album, was mastered by East End Mastering in Toronto, ON, and features a lineup of Canadian guest collaborators, including Zander Miller, Khrono K, and Hood Joplin. In anticipation of the release, KTA has been actively securing live performance sets to showcase new tracks, with recent appearances at Vancouver’s Wonderment Festival, Montreal’s MUTEK Festival Toronto’s Summer of Seoul festival at the TIFF Atrium, Peprally, and Promise Cherry Beach series

THE JONNY HALIFAX INVOCATION - AÇID BLÜÜS RÄÄGS : VOLUME 1

"_Acid blues punk meets freeform drone raag transcendentalism" JONNY HALIFAX is an untutored aleatoric free blues outsider. His new collection of sound is an instrumental departure into godless raag brut improvisations, layered, manipulated and sculpted into heavily immersive feral sonic collages. Invocations of an hallucinatory apocalyptic near future. Previously the creator of junkshop blues skronk one man band HONKEYFINGER, which then mutated into the gospel fuzz psych of Julian Cope endorsed JONNY HALIFAX & THE HOWLING TRUTH with their ""slitherin' electro -programmed slide guitar driven mung worship", alongside the ambient drone metal noisescapes of DEATHENTEREDINERROR, now THE JONNY HALIFAX INVOCATION channel heavy meditations on the present into an uncompromising free blues transcendentalism that burn raga-shaped holes into your chakra with searing psychedelic intensity. Inspired by Henry Flynt's avant bluegrass experiments fusing country blues with eastern acoustic musical stylings, Spacemen 3's contemporary sitar music, and the monolithic drone doom immersion of Sunn 0))), THE JONNY HALIFAX INVOCATION build hypnotic instrumental soundscapes using lap steel and homemade slide guitars, harmonica and alto sax. Underpinned by layers of acoustic and electronic drone instruments and fed through an arsenal of pedalboard electronics that would make Dave Gilmour weep. The blues are transmogrified, unhinged, reduced and re-imagined as intoxicating, trance-inducing, feedback-drenched noise paintings. AÇID BLÜÜS RÄÄGS Volume 1 plays like a psychedelic western movie soundtrack, frenzied electric lap steel guitar suites play to melting cowboy minds. Flaming tumbleweeds blow in slow motion across wide open concrete vistas. Jodorowsky's El Topo meets Ballard's High Rise in an apocalyptic knife edge disintegrating urban landscape. Shut your eyes and conjure the best nightmares you've never had. The JONNY HALIFAX musical CV also includes studio contributions to releases by Andrew Weatherall's TWO LONE SWORDSMEN, UK metal behemoths ORANGE GOBLIN, hardcore thrash upstarts HECK (formerly BABY GODZILLA), and pan european psych noise titans MELTING HAND.

Valtteri Laurell - Visions of Dilla
  • 1: Y'all Ain't Ready
  • 2: Rico Suave Bossa Nova
  • 3: Won’t Do
  • 4: B.b.e. - Big Booty Express
  • 5: Beej-N-Dem

Finnish jazz producer Valtteri Laurell reworks some of J Dilla’s most iconic beats into adventurous big band versions. With drummer/producer Teddy Rok (Teppo Mäkynen of Five Corners Quintet, Stance Bros. etc.), flutist extraordinaire Elena Pinderhughes and Laurell’s own 17-piece Ricky-Tick Big Band, he creates a big band album that you never thought you would hear. Using the sparse and visionary beats of J Dilla as a starting point, Laurell has composed and arranged material on top of the original versions, performed by Ricky-Tick Big Band. ”My original idea was to write very abstract big band moments, that would be like samples Dilla might have used in his work. During the process though, on some of the tracks I started to feel more of a Bob James or Henry Mancini vibe in the arrangements, so the end result is a hybrid of those worlds. Naturally, the spirit of Gil Evans and the later work of Duke Ellington is also floating in the air”. To create a strong connection with the original material, Laurell asked Dilla-aficionado and drummer/producer Teppo ”Teddy Rok” Mäkynen to work with him on the rhythmic side of the pieces. Teddy Rok also mixed the album. As a special guest star, flutist Elena Pinderhughes is featured on Won’t Do and Rico Suave Bossa Nova. Ricky-Tick Big Band, which Laurell founded in 2010 is also well on display here, with rising baritone sax star Linda Fredriksson featured on Beej-n-Dem and trumpetist Jukka Eskola featured on Y’All Ain’t Ready.
