Part 2[12,56 €]
This is the first in a series of remixes of tracks from Dubkasm’s acclaimed 2018 LP, Rastrumentals. The 10” opens with Alter Echo and Zam Zam/Khaliphonic label head E3, who have an impressive list of previous collaborators including Lee Perry, Pinch and The Bug. The Portland, Oregon duo have taken the driving roots energy of ‘Lei Áurea’ and used pounding drums, flurries of aggressive foley and veering synth attacks to flip it into an apocalyptic dancehall banger.
Side B comes courtesy of recent Bristol arrival Om Unit, a truly unique producer and DJ, headlining shows around the world, and collaborating with artists as diverse as Goldie, Joker, and Machinedrum. Always impossible to classify, his remix of LP opener ‘Eco do Jongo’, , dives deep into dub territory, its ethereal, stripped-back nyabinghi drumming, crystallised synths, and a slipstream of horns bringing Ras B’s righteous message to the fore
This release has been expertly mastered via 1/2” tape by Lewis at StarDelta, and is backed and distributed by Unearthed.

Between a secluded cabin sanctuary, tucked away in the vast the stillness of Topanga Canyon, California, and a remote 18th century finca on the Balearic island of Mallorca, Spain, BATO BATO's debut album was patiently guided into being.
Three years writing and recording between these two locations brought the group's collaborators - Julian Smith and Henrik Jakobsson, with Balearic legend Nestor Casas Oche on trumpet - to their most natural sound conclusion.
The music of Bato Bato does not just reflect its organic sound habitats; it absorbs them - the duo set up studio and outdoor field sessions capturing various local environments including percussive field recordings and ambient cave sounds.
The album is an exploration in sound somewhere between the influence of exotica, psych, and dub - metered with latin / afro rhythms merged with experimental studio process and mixing.

Zodiac, a new collaboration between Brendon Moeller and Monty Luke, present a heady brew of sci-fi dub and deep rhythms on a full-length album, ‘Serengeti By Night’.
With meditative roots music at the very heart of ‘Serengeti’, experimental ideas are excavated over ten tracks. Vivid atmospheres are conjured up, as tribal trance, voodoo dub and otherworldly electronics are deployed over rock steady rhythms.
With influences that lie in the musical endeavours of African Headcharge to Rhythm & Sound, Public Image Limited to Cybotron, Zodiac keep the flame burning for exploratory dub-leanings, and deliver an album from the space station above that administers sophisticated braindance sounds that will command repeat listens...
We've reached a pivotal moment for Local Talk.
What better way to celebrate a centenary of forward thinking releases than to present one of the best kept secrets out there, MLiR aka Modern Life Is Rubbish this time joined by Arnau Obios.
After making a serious impact with their remarkable 'Swedish Lo-Life' and 'Trans-World Junktion' releases on fellow Swedish label Studio Barnhus, we're thrilled to have them onboard for our 100th release on Local Talk.
Yes, that is correct, we’re celebrating the big 100. Since the very beginning we've covered everything from the deeper shades of house to the jackin' and the gritty club jams, released some slower BPMs and also the uplifting, vocal and organic house.
As you probably noticed - we love it all.
The 100th release main track 'Lajbans' is one of those sublime tunes that is bridging the gap between all styles of dance music and got the MLiR trademark, it's epic and manages to offer plenty of subtle details to keep you locked for the full 9 minute experience.
Accompanied with the original is a masterclass in dub 'Lajbans (Bellaterra dub)'.
You got the versatility of the original carefully stripped back but also absorbing layers upon layers of seductive sonic moods, it's a trip for sure and you don't want it to end.
Once again MLiR proves why they will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come...

Mlin Patz is a solo project of Chillera band member Polina Matskevych (electric guitar), an outlet for her experiments with sound collages, field recordings and dub sound — all accompanied by a warm southern guitar sound.
Sunlimit — exotic electronic dub with electric guitar and tape hiss, can be used for both — for listening rooms or dancefloors.
Inspired by well-known dub pioneers and recent RAMZi, Jan Shulte and DON’T DJ.
Perfectly comes together with Chillera - Pro Fun 10” on the same release date 6 September 2019!

Murderous on dub for some time, “Cambridge Road” (named for Green King Cuts’ HQ where the tune originated) is a weighty, slyly menacing 140 rocker featuring Akcept’s signature syncopated percussion chops & a slithering, minimalist bassline. A disquietingly distorted hook, pitched & chorused vocal snippets and test tones lead the way through a dark dance equal parts eyes down & wariness - danger lurking around every corner.
“Over & Out” is the secret weapon, a loping, lumbering behemoth of dubwise built for serious Sounds, a stew of filtered hi hat, heaving bass, sampled drum fills, swung shaker, oddly-looped reggae horns, and claustrophobic spaces navigated by cagey reverbs.

Imagine yourself chilling on the sunny sea coast during summertime, among mountains, salty air, cypresses and junipers, listening to dub and wistfully nodding your head to the rhythm. It is not a meditative mantra, though. It is the Odessa band Chillera, listening to which, you can easily move yourself to these landscapes.
Not only their creativity but the whole atmosphere of our conversation suggests such associations. Anya Brizhata, Polina Matskevich, and Nastya Marikutsa speak smoothly and confidently. Their speech sounds tranquil and connection with nature seems unquestionable. As if the environment and the rhythm of the southern resort town found in them the very embodiment they searched for.
Chillera started in Crimea where Anya and Polina worked together at a construction site. For three summer months after a hard day’s work, they played musical instruments, listened to hi-life and King Tubby, and enjoyed the beauty of the Crimean landscapes. Some workers wore jackets with “Chillers” labels of air conditioning systems, that turned into the band’s name “Chillera,” that signifies relaxation, meditation, and chill.
“One musician said that our band is a group of profanes (Rus. Profan – ignorant, incompetent). We thought that, in principle, it makes sense. Profan is like a ‘professional fan.’ So we made a track. We began to imitate some jazz-funk stuff and joke about it. That’s how the idea of Pro Fan. came about.”
The title might also be read as Pro Fun, or ‘About Fun,’ if transliterated. That’s where the unique charm of Chillera is, in their ability to find a positive meaning in the things far removed, transforming it into the source of their main strength. It is the music, which paints breezy summertime landscapes in our imagination.

Sheffield’s Tommy Vicari Jnr delivers a study in contrasts for his first release on Drone. ‘Kept In’ is a concordant, synthetic techno pop excursion that bursts into your head like a thought and ricochets throughout. The static and reverb harnessed by Vicari to create ‘Closing In’ is a dub/techno assault, and inverse to the propulsive and glitchy rhythm of the A side.

Joachim Nordwall digests and mutates dub in unique industrial style on The iDEAList’s almighty
follow-up to a tape and 7” in this killer mode, bringing guest vocalists, JA’s Nazamba and polymath
John Duncan, for a deeply crooked ride worthy of rinse & repeat
Picking up where his raw ‘Early Tactical Experiments In Techno & Dub’ left off in spring 2019, the
rugged styles of ‘Say Yes to No’ poses only slightly less risk of contracting salmonella with a more
stewed and treated suite taking in proper songs starring Nazamba and John Duncan amid all
manner of virulent, wayward electro-dub variation.
As with his superb tape for Industrial Coast, that wicked 7” with Genesis P-Orridge, and even
his recent albums as Joachim Nordwall - ‘Conventional Wisdom’ with John Duncan, and the
collaborative CD ‘Communication Is Key’ - The iDEALIST naturally highlights fundamental links
between dub and noise - the core principles of manipulating sound in space - with a critical blend
of tactile playfulness and rigorous pressure.
The two vocal cuts are outstanding in their own rights; ‘Bigga Boss’ features Kingston-based poet
and playwright Nazamba utterly possessing the opening shot with his baritone growl, rooting the
LP at one pole, while John Duncan’s equally compelling appearance on a similar riddim in ’Tough
Doubt’ comes to epitomise the project’s direct approach toward alloying and allying styles with
alchemical suss comparable to The Bug, Ossia or Andreas Tilliander.
Vocals also spill out into the LP’s other tracks, but here they’re more textural and elusive,
scudding thru ‘Everyone Fucking Relax’ in a way recalling DJ Scud’s thudding remix of Bong-Ra,
or masticated into intelligibility on the amorphous dub-noise lurch of ‘Inner Space Dub (Insane
Version)’ and the LP’s cataclysmic closer ‘Say Yes To Dub’, which are all held tight in contrast with
the more defined techno and electro-dub structures of the LP’s club-ready highlights, ‘The Ecstasy’
and ’Shit Skull/Golden Mind.’
It’s a hugely enjoyable album - one that leaves bits in your teef and gets up in your head like a
healthy dab of shatter.
