"Dance On", the latest single from Canopy continues the label's enthusiasm for re-issuing vintage Afro-tropical funk, reggae & disco, paired with modern remixes and remakes.

Two long out of print and previously un-reissued musical gems from Malian musician Nawari, get an overdue second life. Those gems being the eponymous "Dance On", an upbeat Afro-reggae-disco dancer originally self-released in 1987, and "Fanta Cini", originally released in 1989, which takes a deeper, tougher "proto-Afro-electro-funk" direction.

Sharing creative duties is Russian producer Valique, aka "V" from the best-selling "V's edits series, appearing on Canopy for the first time with a strong contribution to the label. Taking the title tune he reimagined & recreated it, building from Nawari's vocals and recording live horns, skanking guitars and percussion, blended with his signature classy production: crisp, warm, groovy & punchy.

Valique turns in 3 different mixes of Dance On, ranging from reggae disco, to cosmic Afro beat, timbale percussion workouts and beyond.

The release spans a range of moods, segueing between the past & present, organic and electronic, proving itself to be well suited for many environments, from the kitchen party to the bars, clubs & festivals of the world.

maya ongaku has always been searching for what exists just beyond the edge of perception. Since forming in the seaside towns surrounding Enoshima, the trio has followed a path guided less by intention than intuition, allowing songs, ideas, and experiences to emerge through a process they describe as 自然発生 (shizen hassei), spontaneous occurrence. Nothing Space Music is the deepest expression of that philosophy to date.

Written in the aftermath of several years of international touring, the album emerged from a growing desire to reconnect with silence. As stages became larger and the world around them moved faster, the band found themselves drawn toward the quieter spaces beneath it all. What began as a reflection on stillness & silence eventually expanded into the idea of "Nothing Space". To realise the album, maya ongaku created an entirely new environment for themselves. Near a seaside shrine in their hometown, the trio transformed a large soundproof building into Nothing Space Studio, a space built specifically around the needs of this record.

Influential UK Jazz/Funk/Disco outfit THE COOL-NOTES' biggest hit 'Spend The Night', originally released in 1985, is back on Dafia Records with a set of brand new, never before released remixes by French Disco icon DIMITRI FROM PARIS.

The original, which reached #11 in the UK Top 40 in the Spring of 1985, is regarded as a mid-tempo UK classic by many since its first appearance. Known for his luxurious, groove-driven productions and remixes, Dimitri From Paris has reworked tracks for artists including Björk, Quincy Jones, Chic and New Order, while helping define the sound of modern disco and house music in a way only he can.

When he got the chance by Dafia label head Mannix to get his hands on the original multitrack tapes, he didn't hesitate to deliver two classic DFP revisions in the making. CODE, das kommerziell erfolgreichste Album der elektronischen Pioniere Cabaret Voltaire aus Sheffield, ist endlich wieder erhältlich – nach jahrelanger Vergriffenheit.
Das ursprünglich 1987 veröffentlichte achte Studioalbum der Band wurde von den Originalbändern durch Denis Blackham neu remastert, der seit über 20 Jahren sämtliche Alben von Cabaret Voltaire gemastert oder remastert hat. Die Neuauflage erscheint bei Mute und präsentiert das originale Artwork in restaurierter Form.
Gemeinsam produziert mit Dub-Ikone Adrian Sherwood, markiert CODE einen mutigen Schritt in Richtung Synth-Pop und mechanischem Funk. Es war das letzte Album von Cabaret Voltaire, das mit einem großen Produktionsbudget entstand und dabei dennoch kompromisslos glaubwürdig blieb. Mit den Singles „Don't Argue“ und „Here to Go“, die beide Charterfolge feierten, zählt es zu den Höhepunkten im Schaffen der Band.
Der Albumtitel verweist auf ein Thema, das damals von großer Aktualität war und heute relevanter denn je erscheint: die zunehmende Durchdringung des menschlichen Lebens durch Technologie, Computer und Programmierung. Diese Wiederveröffentlichung wurde 2019 gemeinsam mit Richard H. Kirk begonnen. Nach seinem viel zu frühen Tod wurde das Projekt anhand seiner Notizen und in enger Abstimmung mit Stephen Malinder sowie dem Nachlass von Richard H. Kirk vollendet – eine würdige Hommage an sein außergewöhnliches Vermächtnis.

Ganz allein, über sein Klavier gebeugt und mit dem Rücken zu einem ehrfürchtigen, ausverkauften Publikum, interpretierte der Frontmann der Band "Geese" Songs aus seinem gefeierten Debütalbum "Heavy Metal" neu. Ein Album, das von GQ in ihrem ausführlichen Bericht über diesen Abend in der Carnegie Hall als "eine der kühnsten und selbstbewusstesten Singer-Songwriter-Platten dieses Jahrhunderts bisher, ein Fiebertraum voller Gefühle von jemandem, der die Regeln gut genug verstand, um zu wissen, dass sie ihm kaum etwas bedeuteten" beschrieben wurde.

Back in print on vinyl in Europe, Mia Gargaret is an ambient, (mostly) instrumental album by Chicago, IL singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Gia Margaret. Not the follow-up she intended to release after the critical success of her debut album but after having to cancel tours because of an illness that left unable to sing for nearly half of the year, she had to rethink her methods. The resulting album is an incredible achievement, finding beauty and possibility in uncertainty while allowing Gia the time to heal. Der belgische Pianist Jef Neve, sowohl klassisch als auch im Jazz ausgebildet, legt ein sehr persönliches Soloalbum vor. Die elf Titel führen bis in seine Kindheit zurück, wo er schon am Klavier saß und in seiner Fantasie den verschiedenen Tönen bestimmte Farben zuordnete. Nach 25 Jahren auf der Bühne, Tourneen um die ganze Welt und zahlreichen Begegnungen mit Menschen und Orten stellt "Key Energy" eine Art Zwischenbilanz dar.

»Moondram Sevi«, ein Album, das vertraut und gleichzeitig aufregend anders klingt: Dub und Disco-Diaspora treffen auf Kollywood-Soundtracks, Balearic-Sound, Neo-Library-Music, Psychedelic, Prog und krautige Grooves. Sahana Naresh singt auf drei Songs, darunter »Pambu Mookan Uncle« und »Sa Re Ga Ma Pa«. In all seiner kaleidoskopischen Bildkraft und rauschhaften Fabulierfreudigkeit hat »Moondram Sevi« etwas Cineastisches – und auch das für Keshavara typische babylonische Sprachgewirr aus Deutsch, English, Tamil & Gibberish regiert wieder.
Bei Keshavara versteht sich die Sprache als Musik, während die Musik sich als Sprache versteht. Und mag diese Musik auch noch so filmisch daherkommen, so bleibt sie doch immer tanzbar: »Moondram Sevi« (Tamil für »das dritte Ohr«) ist Kopfkino für die Füße.

2020 veröffentlichten Provinz ihr Top-5-Debütalbum "Wir bauten uns Amerika", wurden in der Folge erst zum "Besten Newcomer" (2020) und im Jahr darauf gleich zur "Besten Band" bei der 1LIVE Krone gewählt, sammelten über 200 Millionen Streams und begeisterten die deutsche Musiklandschaft durch die Bank weg. Nun freut sich die Ravensburger Band, die Veröffentlichung ihres zweiten Albums bekannt geben zu dürfen. Es heißt wie die jüngst veröffentlichte erste Single, "Zorn & Liebe" und erscheint am 16. Semiratruth ist ständig in Bewegung. Der in Brooklyn lebende, in Chicago geborene Elektronik-Künstler reist von Bühne zu Bühne und pendelt zwischen unterschiedlichen Underground-Musikszenen - von den USA über Guatemala bis in die Niederlande -, Synthesizer und Sampler im Gepäck, als wären sie ein Teleportationsgerät. 7–Early Years–79 was The Fall's first comp ever. Originally released on Step-Forward in 1981, the LP compiles the group's first four singles recorded for the label between 1977 and 1979 – Bingo-Master's Break-Out, It's The New Thing, Rowche Rumble and Fiery Jack – none of which appeared on any of the band's studio albums. (Also included is "Dice Man" from 1979's Dragnet.) Taken together, these 7-inches are The Fall as they initially emerged from the primordial soup of '77 Manchester, pushing out from founder Mark E. Smith's poetry-collective origins into the early punk scene.

Right from the first track, "Repetition," Smith and crew's working-class art punk is in full effect. His obtuse lyrical brilliance and inimitable vocal delivery ride atop the band's ringing atonal guitar, looping basslines and propulsive drumming – complemented by wheezy combo organ tones. The tracks from each 7-inch are presented here in reverse chronological order. The Fall's fierce contrarianism defines the early UK punk sound and, at the same time, sounds nothing like any of their contemporaries.

The revolving cast of band members includes Martin Bramah, Una Baines and Karl Burns as well as Marc Riley, Craig Scanlon and Stephen Hanley who would remain in The Fall's classic '80s lineups. Many of their best-known songs are featured here – from "Psycho Mafia" and "Rowche Rumble" to the Mayo Thompson-produced "Fiery Jack."

Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that 77–Early Years–79 has been reissued on vinyl. Includes liner notes by Stephen Malkmus.

Originally released on Flying Nun in 1983, Fall In A Hole is a double LP of an especially incendiary Fall show at Mainstreet Cabaret in Auckland, NZ in August 1982. The second of a two-night stand, this would be the band's final concert of its successful first tour of Australia and New Zealand. Recorded by longtime Flying Nun associate Chris Knox – who also made the striking cover artwork – Fall In A Hole follows the release of earlier live albums Totale's Turns and A Part of America Therein, 1981.

Besides capturing The Fall onstage during one of its most feral and exhilarating periods, Fall In A Hole is historically significant for several reasons. It heralds the end of Marc Riley's tenure with the band, an era considered by many Fall fans to be the group's peak, and showcases the two-drummer lineup heard on 1982's Hex Enduction Hour, with both Paul Hanley and Karl Burns sharing drumkit duties onstage. With Riley and Craig Scanlon on dual guitars and Stephen Hanley on bass, The Fall was stepping out in its final iteration with a majority of personnel rooted in their late '70s lineup.

The setlist is peppered with a mix of singles and album tracks old and new – including several that had yet to be released. Rarities like "Fantastic Life," "Backdrop" and "Solicitor In Studio" are given epic, feedback-drenched airings, while fan favorites like "Hip Priest," "Prole Art Threat" and "The Classical" radiate with lively, raucous energy.

Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Fall In A Hole has been reissued on vinyl. Includes liner notes by Roy Montgomery. Digital transfers made from analogue master tapes in the Flying Nun Collection and Chris Knox Collection held at the Alexander Turnbull Library (National Library of New Zealand).

Following her foundational role in the early years of The Fall, and then the searing post punk of The Blue Orchids, as well as several tours serving as a backing group for Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico, Una Baines found herself starting 1985 without a band. Drafting together members of the all-female Beyond The Glass, and compatriots associated with her past projects, she entered the studio with a clutch of songs and a willingness to experiment. Separating the sides into “waxing”, for the more traditional songs, and “waning”, where the structures become looser and varied, the resulting album was the sole release on her Taboo Records and seemed quickly lost to time, but feels shockingly current in both feminist content, and freak folk execution.

It is a collection of influences that would emerge decades later in the wyrd folk movement, and Furia is not out of place at an intersection of Devendra Banhart and Meg Baird, but there was absolutely nothing like it in 1986. Upon release, Mark E. Smith famously likened it to Third Ear Band, having to dip back to 1970 for a touchstone. Songs like “Bridget of Ireland” could be traditional ballads from decades past, while “No Romance” is a lo-fi new wave hit waiting to happen. “Sheila/Beats My Heart” fashions The Velvet Underground as a feminist protest band, and “Ritual” plays out like all of the Motown girl groups banding together to tell the world that they don’t need a boyfriend to solve all of their problems. It all draws on sources that are so familiar, yet turns them upside down in a celebratory fashion. Is it freak folk? Pagan punk? Pastoral drone? It is all of that and so much more. It is the sound of a woman, and an artist, truly finding her voice, and it is both magical and compelling.

With their sixth studio album, ASN reveal a project in full command of its identity. “Reverie Machine” moves confidently through the many shades of post-punk, grounding its sound in analogue textures while embracing the electronic foundations of dancefloor-oriented wave.

NOTON is pleased to announce the release of LICHTSTIMME and SCHATTENSTIMME by Alva Noto: two soundtracks for a film that never existed.

The starting point is E. T. A. Hoffmann's The Sandman: a world where perception and reality drift apart, and the question of identity remains unresolved. Recognition, in Hoffmann, is never quite secure. The doppelgänger is less a figure than a condition, the point at which the self can no longer vouch for itself.
The first record, LICHTSTIMME begins in an open, almost weightless sonic world. Something still appears untouched. The music carries a sense of proximity, clarity and trust. But this sense of certainty does not remain. Gradually, the proportions begin to shift. Sounds lose their definitiveness; familiar structures become strange. The music begins to question its own surface. What initially appears as light already contains the possibility of its shadow.
With the second record, SCHATTENSTIMME, the instrument enters the sonic space. The pieces were recorded together with percussionist Rainer Römer and the Ensemble Modern. A central role is given to the Sixxen, the extraordinary metallic percussion instrument originally developed by Iannis Xenakis together with Les Percussions de Strasbourg and instrument maker Robert Hébrard for Pléiades. Its resonances, unusual microtonal structure and distinctive timbre make it an instrument that resists being placed within a familiar musical context. Complete Sixxen sets are extremely rare and require highly specialised construction.
The instrument appears only on the second record. Its absence from LICHTSTIMME and its arrival on SCHATTENSTIMME are structural. It behaves like a shadow: present only when something else has already changed. With its appearance, it is not only the sound that changes. The entire musical space seems to shift its character. The Sixxen's metallic sound becomes the unfamiliar. The unfamiliar becomes a counterpart.
The two records follow an inner movement: from light to shadow, from trust to doubt, from identity to doppelgänger, and back to a harmony that is no longer quite the same. What emerges as an independent, personal sonic language has been transformed by the journey. The unfamiliar has not disappeared. It has become part of the self.
LICHTSTIMME and SCHATTENSTIMME are records about the instability of the familiar. Something is always almost recognisable and never quite confirmed, in the story, and in the sound.
