The Vivien Vee project, an Italian singer discovered and produced by young duo Claudio Simonetti - Giancarlo Meo, has certainly been one of the first and best attempts to impose a clear European-style disco music. The first tracks, as well as the sequels, will be released from the banana records and the real big international success comes in 1983 with this album "with vivien vee", thanks in particular to the 2 strong singles "Higher" and "Blue Disease". This album, produced entirely by Giancarlo Meo, contains, in this rare special edition, 6 tracks in extended original versions, very rare to be found individually. Featuring a sound that is still up to date, it also meets the most demanding palates for the finest style of the best disc, all in one single vinyl: From the powerful and robust funky electronic to "Destiny" and "Wanna Feel" reminding of the best production of Change and Peter Jacques Band, still transmitted by milano international classic, "Gotta Go" in pure Imagination style, to the absolute pearls in "Higher" (cult of disco-disco) and "Blue Disease" explosive electro break synth-pop. Hailing from Britain, with origins in Guyana, Jamaica, and St. Vincent, critics and historians agree that the world simply wasn't ready for Cymande. Formed in 1971, the band would become renowned for their progressive, and complex brand of funk music, which fused elements of calypso, jazz, R&B, African music, and British glam rock. Despite touring with Al Green, performing at venues like The Apollo and Soul Train, and having a Billboard R&B hit, Cymande languished in obscurity before disbanding in 1974, only to develop a widespread cult following over the years, and become a treasure trove for crate diggers and beatsmiths. Though their debut album was not a monster hit for Cymande, it allowed them enough fortunes to re-locate to the US, where they further developed their distinct blend of world-influenced funk, and took in the political climate. Their stay in America led to their 2nd album, 1973's Second Time Round, which cultivated afro-inspired arrangements, as well as fusions of reggae and jazz, and a touch of social commentary thrown in. While Second Time Round didn't reach even the minor level of success of Cymande's debut, it did render a dancehall monster in the track "Fug", and numerous other underrated soulful classics. A definite must for any deep funk historian worth their salt.

The Doors' 50th anniversary celebration continues this summer with a new Singles collections that spotlight every single and B-side the band released in the U.S., all gathered together for the first time.

THE SINGLES shows the creative chemistry shared by drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and vocalist Jim Morrison, four brilliant artists who made The Doors one of America's most iconic and influential rock bands.
The collection includes the single versions from all six of the landmark studio albums the quartet released between 1967 and 1971, including classics like People Are Strange,' Love Her Madly' and Riders On The Storm.' Also included on the CD versions are four mono radio versions of some of the band's biggest hits, such as Hello, I Love You' and Touch Me,' which have never been made available anywhere after being sent to radio around their original release. The B-sides - many of which are making their CD debut - add another dimension to the band's legacy with such stellar tracks as Who Scared You,' which appeared in March 1969 as the flipside to Wishful Sinful,' and a cover of Willie Dixon's (You Need Meat) Don't Go No Further,' which was paired with the 1971 smash Love Her Madly.'
THE SINGLES also features several songs released after Morrison's passing in 1971. Among those recordings are tracks the surviving trio recorded together ( Tightrope Ride' and The Mosquito'), as well as live selections from posthumous releases ( Roadhouse Blues' and Gloria.')
The Blu-ray disc that accompanies the expanded version of THE SINGLES features a high-resolution Quadraphonic mix of The Best Of The Doors. Nigeria's Kingsley Bucknor's 'Just U and Me' LP gets the long-awaited reissue treatment from Melbourne's Left Ear Records. After cutting his teeth playing with Fela in the 70's and releasing two afrobeat LP's Kingsley travelled the globe before finding himself in London, it's here that he laid down 6 distinctive electro-funk tunes inspired by African rhythms and music he'd heard through his travels in the States and in Europe. Originally issued on Kinglsley's own KAB records in '85 and according to Kingsley the release was well received at the time, but due to constraints of international marketing the record remained mostly unknown outside of his homeland. Fast-forward to 2017 and the stage is set for a new global audience to appreciate the distinct sound of KB.

Jerry's unmistakable guitar tone enchanted multitudes of "Deadheads" throughout the band's 30-year career and beyond. The prolific nature of Garcia is evident in the breadth of albums he released throughout his iconic musical career which in addition to the Dead included work with the Jerry Garcia Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Old and in the Way, Legion of Mary, Garcia/Grisman, projects with Merl Saunders and as a solo artist. Considering Jerry was the most recorded musician of all time, there's always some overlooked gem just waiting to be discovered.

Originally released in early 1976, Garcia's third solo outing Reflections features a diverse mix of roots-oriented styles with contributions from his two primary vehicles of musical expression - the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band. In some ways, Reflections picks up where Garcia and the Dead left off on Blues For Allah. Speaking about the sessions, Garcia explained "we were having fun in the studio is what it boils down to, and that's pretty rare for us. The energy was there, and I thought, 'I've got a solo album coming up. Let's cut these tracks with the Grateful Dead. I've already taught them the tunes.'"

Assembled in Bob Weir's home studio, Ace's, Garcia and the Dead laid down well-worn but never previously recorded songs including "They Love Each Other," "It Must Have Been The Roses" and "Comes A Time" plus a new song, Robert Hunter's "Might As Well" - a document of the Dead's 1970 trip across Canada aboard the legendary Festival Express. The balance of the record showcases the late-1975 Jerry Garcia Band core featuring John Kahn, Ron Tutt and Nicky Hopkins, plus Larry Knechtel of the famed Wrecking Crew. Like the material recorded by the Dead, the Jerry Garcia Band's selections were also road-tested prior to recording. The cuts included the seminal Garcia/Hunter ballad "Mission in the Rain" plus renditions of Hank Ballard's rocker "Tore Up Over You," "Catfish John" and Allen Toussaint's "I'll Take A Melody."

One of his finest overall albums outside of the Dead, the beloved 9-track collection features all original material including a pair of songs by longtime collaborator John Kahn as well as a spate of Garcia-Hunter gems (the title track and "Gomorrah" became Dead staples). Keith and Donna Godchaux, Merl Saunders and Maria Muldaur also appear here. Although not necessarily a financial success Cats Under The Stars remained one of Jerry's favorite recordings, "The record I worked hardest at and liked best was Cats Under The Stars. That was kind of like my baby...(Cats Under The Stars) had everything - chops, production, songs."

The band's breakthrough record It's My Life saw the arrival of producer and multi-instrumentalist Tim Friese-Greene, who became a significant creative force in the band and an unofficial fourth member for the remainder of its existence.

It's My Life saw the band seek a less synthesized sound and less New Romantic image, which included keyboardist Simon Brenner leaving the band. The new sound gave the band commercial success, with the title track becoming a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It went on to be covered by No Doubt in 2003 reaching number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remaining on the chart for 28 weeks.

The album also contained the single "Such a Shame" (a song inspired by the book The Dice Man) which became a Top 10 hit across Europe. A third single, "Dum Dum Girl", was also a success in Europe and NZ in particular.

Bob Dylan recently released Triplicate, his third collection of pop standards. Like Dylan's earlier albums, Shadows in the Night (2015) and Fallen Angels (2016), most of the songs have an association with the great Frank Sinatra.

This double LP presents Frank Sinatra's versions of many of the songs Dylan sang in these three forays into the Great American Songbook. Orchestras accompanying the iconic singer are led by Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins, Billy May, Alex Stordahl, and Tommy Dorsey, among others.

Dylan once related this about an encounter he had with Ol' Blue Eyes: He was funny, we were standing out on his patio at night and he said to me, 'You and me, pal, we got blue eyes, we're from up there,' and he pointed to the stars. 'These other bums are from down here.' I remember thinking that he might be right.'

1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions was recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles and compiled from all thirteen reels of multi-track tape that held every note and snippet of studio dialogue. Twelve reels of tape were used during the original sessions, with the thirteenth reel having the takes that would be used on the studio album.



This sprawling set which was originally aimed at the collector market would be challenging and cost prohibitive to reissue as a multi-disc vinyl box set. What is presented here is an attempt to assemble some of the best highlights from the Fun House Sessions on an officially-released 2LP set in high quality packaging with a sequence that hopefully proves to be an easier, and more casual listen. Included are some terrific alternate versions of Down on the Street, Loose,' Dirt,' Funhouse,' 1970' and others, pulled from session reels 1, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11 and originally recorded on May 11, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 of 1970. Also notable is the inclusion of the 17+ minute version of L.A. Blues,' titled as Freak,' which encompasses the entire fourth side of this set and is the prime example of what makes the Fun House Sessions both loved and feared.

We Had To Let You Have It is the only recorded output from Britain's first all-black rock band Noir, a band which broke up before the album was released.

We Had To Let You Have It a low-key release with above average guitar work. A melt of soul, R&B, rock, blues rock formula, with minor incursions into jazz and hints of proto- prog. In their short career Noir had gigs opening up for the Rolling Stones and Cream. It's an unpolished version of the Chambers Brothers and Rare Earth due to the drums and fuzz.

In 1970 the band had spent ages recording this undisputable miracle for the label 'Dawn' (that was the label of Mungo Jerry also). How did they get there, and where from, is still a mystery. The band split before completing the album, and vanished from the studio - all attempts to discover their whereabouts failed. The music was too good to be left on a shelf and the label released it anyway, hence the album title We Had To Let You Have It.

Exclusive to each of the box sets is 'LODGER (Tony Visconti 2017 Mix)'. The remix was started with David's blessing before his passing in January last year. Tony Visconti has revisited the original multi-tracks at Human Studios and remixed the album with the benefit of modern technology to better highlight the album's nuances. Always a personal favourite of David's, this version of the album will also feature newly 'remixed' artwork featuring unseen images from the original cover photographic session from the archive of the Estate of photographer Duffy, working closely with his son Chris.

Also exclusive to each box is Re:Call 3, a new compilation featuring remastered contemporary single versions, non-album singles and b-sides, and songs featured on soundtracks. The cover features a photo by Christian Simonpietri taken at Hansa Studios in Berlin during the Heroes' sessions in 1977.

The box set's accompanying 84p book will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Anton Corbijn, Helmut Newton, Andrew Kent, Steve Schapiro, Duffy and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producer Tony Visconti.
