All the songs on the album were recorded at High Sea Studios by Jacques Du Plessis and Adrian Erasmus, described by the band as the 6th and 7th members of SHORTSTRAW. Musically, the collecton as an album expresses the diferent types of music all the members are into, not being dictated by any sound or genre each month, the band wrote about whatever they were feeling at the tme and what they thought sounded good.
Lyrically there was defnitely a theme, and that theme was basically 2016-2017! Each month, as we wrote the songs, I'd just be singing about what I was going through at the tme. A struggling relatonship, a break up and the subsequent reforming of said relatonship, along with the death of my frst dog. It's actually a prety personal album.' says Alastair Thomas.
Commitng to releasing a new song and music video every month is all about stcking to tmelines otherwise they would have lost all momentum, says SHORTSTRAW. While writng the songs each month, some came more easily than others. A few of them came from old ideas reimagined: Ignorance is Bliss was born out of idea of Alastair that is almost 10 years old, whereas Our Simple Minds and The Less We're Together came about in less than an hour.'
Compared to their previous albums, THOSE MEDDLING KIDS feel more free and bold, the songs are all vastly diferent and diverse and in some cases, they change tempos and even in the case of Rich Richards, are three diferent songs in one. The band cared less about what people may have expected, and were more content to do what they think is great and excitng.
They tried something new on almost every song and played with tme signatures, genres, producton elements and collaboratons.

The Blow Monkeys release their 10th studio album The Wild River' on October 6th on Monk's Road Records.

The Wild River' was recorded in Spain and produced by mainman Robert Howard. The Blow Monkeys will be touring in October starting with the 100 Club, London, on Saturday the 7th - more dates to be announced shortly. The Blow Monkeys were formed in 1981. Initially delivering a post-punk slant the band quickly moved into a more soulful sound, reflected in their seductive live performances, which brought them worldwide chart success. Hits such as Digging Your Scene' and It Doesn't Have To Be This Way' saw them conquer the charts, and their cover of Lesley Gore's You Don't Own Me' found its way onto the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing. After several albums, the band called it a day in 1990, with frontman Dr.Robert pursuing a solo career that included, amongst others, collaborations with Paul Weller and Beth Orton. Dr.Robert had previously tasted solo success with the dance track Wait", which featured Chicago House diva Kym Mazelle. In 2007 The Blow Monkeys reunited their original line-up of vocalist/guitarist Dr. Robert (Robert Howard), saxophonist Neville Henry, bassist, Mick Anker and drummer Tony Kiley. The last 10 years have seen the reinvigorated quartet release 4 albums and play hundreds of live shows reconnecting with old fans and a new audience alike.

Ska (or bluebeat) marked the true rise of Jamaican popular music, finding the most popular in the first half of the years if "60. It was the forerunner of other major genres such as rocksteady and reggae, and as these featured a rhythm with accents on raising the musical joke. Fundamental to the English contribution from the last years "70 which gave the exotic rhythm a cultural connotation as well as musical giving rise to rude boys, skinheads and mods. The fascinating Italian street at Ska begins in the second half of the 80s, albeit sometimes embarrassed with punk, when many bands first underground on the Lombardy-Piedmont axis begin to have a national resonance, Bluebeaters, Statute, Matrioska, Royale Casino, Persiana Jones, Shandon etc. With the time and bandwidth of this period, they mistakenly united to each other without having the requisite chronological or stylistic requirements and hybrid music left for what they were not, the genre faded, deflated, imploded even if a hard-core musician continued to operate "in the shadows" and with a discreet personal follow-up. In the last decade, the rhythms of the ska Italian were mostly abandoned by the 2-Tone-ska, with its ska-core and ska-punk dances, and back to the origins of the traditional Jamaican ska. MAGNETICS : Today something finally begins to move. And this is something very high. Leave behind the ingenuity of the past, so that a new generation of musicians stand out in the Italian landscape. High-tech musicians whose first references are Jamaica of the origins and the New York scene of recent years. THE MAGNETICS of "lifting" movement do so much, and quality material to be heard alike. It is surely early to talk about the rebirth of the Ska, primarily because at the public and local level there is still a bit of the prejudice that the genre has brought back from the '90s. But with groups such as THE MAGNETICS, the new formation led by Olly Riva and Mr.Massa, with their early reggae could finally be the right mood.

Few bands are so ingrained into the notion of the BBC radio session as The Wedding Present. Long time favourites of the late, great John Peel, David Gedge and his band appeared regularly on that legendary presenter's BBC Radio 1 show and have continued their association with Auntie' by performing many unforgettable sessions on the popular 'Marc Riley Show' on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Due to the popularity of these sessions, The Wedding Present, in conjunction with Hatch Records and the BBC, have joined forces to produce a trilogy of releases featuring every momentous track performed for Marc's award-winning show over a ten-year period. Marc Riley Sessions Volume 2, released 6th October, includes songs taken from no less than eight of the band's celebrated albums, including Seamonsters, the record-breaking Hit Parade releases and band's most recent album, the critically acclaimed Going, Going...

Over twelve tracks (performed across three sessions from 2012, 2013 & 2014) the undeniable song writing brilliance of David Gedge is clearly evident. From the bounding, propulsive recklessness of 'Back A Bit... Stop' (Valentina) to the harsh edges and sudden tempo changes of 'Heather' (Seamonsters), The Wedding Present's bass-driven, muscular riffs are a constant theme throughout. Gedge's bittersweet lyrics and honest take on love are highlighted in such tracks as 'The Girl From The DDR' (Valentina) and 'Little Silver' (Going, Going...). Other memorable moments include a frenzied cover of The Monkees' 'Pleasant Valley Sunday' and a rapturous performance of 'Flying Saucer' (both taken from the Hit Parade series of singles) along with a rousing 'It's A Gas' and a heartfelt 'Spangle' - complete with an apologetic Gedge clearing his throat mid-verse - from the Watusi album.

The Wedding Present are one of the UK's best loved indie bands with eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles to their name. Alongside The Wedding Present and David's other' band, Cinerama, David runs his own record label, curates his own festival and publishes a biographical comic book series, 'Tales From The Wedding Present' - essentially his memoirs in graphic novel style.

Hatch Records are an independent record label based in Leeds. Since forming in 2013, the label has lovingly released singles and albums from Then Thickens, Nine Black Alps, Deadwall, Napoleon IIIrd and The Wedding Present.

Originally this was an ultra rare 1989 album from Buster Bloodvessel of Bad Manners fame. This spin-off group's LP is one of the most sought after collectable Ska releases of the 1980s, Mad Butcher is pleased to present this high quality reissue on their sub-label Black Butcher Classics.

It was early 2008 and The Wedding Present were in Chicago, recording their seventh album, El Rey. But they had also recently completed a successful 'twentieth anniversary' concert tour for their debut LP George Best and, having played that entire album dozens of times live, it was fresh in their minds and under their fingers. So, after they'd wrapped up recording El Rey, David suggested they lay down a 'live' version of George Best in the same studio. After all, the equipment was already set up and the band were on fire. Steve Albini, with whom they were recording, initially wasn't too keen on the idea but David assured him it would be quick and easy. Albini grudgingly caved. But David was right, it was quick... recorded live, more like an early Beatles LP or a Wedding Present Peel Session than a long drawn out modern recording with a bunch of overdubs and multi-tracked layering. One could almost imagine that this is the version of George Best that David would have liked to have recorded back in 1987. It is just so well done... as you'd expect, of course, with Albini at the controls. But you can also feel David's 20 years older self guiding the new recording with experience and confidence. Everything is bigger... the drums on the original recording were played live, but were done on a 'Simmons' electronic drum kit. The combination of Albini's recording and the ultra-talented Graeme Ramsay on 'real' drums brings these frantic songs to life. However, the real difference comes out in the way those super-fast, ever-jangly guitars sound... they're warmer, they're rockier, they're more modern. More... Albini! To round everything off with another contemporary twist, multi award-winning mixer/producer Andrew Scheps (last heard on The Wedding Present's ground-breaking Going, Going... album) enthusiastically agreed to mix the finished recordings, having heard the original LP for the first time in his living room in Los Angeles in 2012, when he was mixing The Wedding Present's eighth studio album, Valentina.

Detroit's Bonny Doon recline deep in the kind of alternative folk music that gives off its own warmth, wise enough to sit back with some guitars and watch the world crumble.' - Pitchfork
Bonny Doon's mastery of restraint and melodically vulnerable songwriting comes into its own on their self-titled debut full length. Previous homespun EP releases introduced a band residing in an unusual territory between songcraft and atmosphere. This record ventures further down that path, but comes together with a disarming timelessness, making even the stranger moments feel familiar. Its essence is floating, folk-ish rock that summons the tossed-off grandeur of early Smog or the Silver Jews boombox tapes, and the dead-eyed poignancy of Neil Young's gloriously unhinged Ditch Trilogy. In Detroit, they have become a beloved experience, with three years of live sets that teeter between a gentle intimacy and almost transcendent looseness. And though it took three years, the band has finally succeeded in capturing the complete spirit of Bonny Doon, creating a breathing web of sound that feels equally sublime and accidental.

Songwriters Bill Lennox and Bobby Colombo had been collaborating together low-key for a year and a half when they invited drummer Jake Kmiecik and bassist Joshua Brooks, both just 20 at the time, over to their studio space to flesh out some songs in early 2014. All four were active in Detroit's fertile punk scene, playing at the time in Tyvek, Growwing Pains, and PRC. The familiar approaches of punk did not feel right however, and the songs initially felt stiff and lifeless. It wasn't until the four tried to play as quietly as possible, with songs shambling along like a car with wobbly wheels, that the band was born. Deconstructing their sound allowed the music to unravel into something open-ended and beautiful, making space for Lennox's effortless and subtly smart lyricism. Natural progressions were embraced and Bonny Doon began playing shows around Detroit in the same loose and flowing manner as their sound was evolving.

When the time came to work on a full length, the same ethos of fluidity was applied. The band began tracking on a reel-to-reel tape machine with longtime friend and collaborator Fred Thomas (Polyvinyl Records, Saturday Looks Good To Me) at his studio in Ann Arbor, then spent months meticulously stitching together a finished work at their practice space in Detroit's Russell Industrial Center and residences throughout the city. The end result is a glistening, sun-dazzled patchwork of deftly arranged pop melodicism, Echoplex-bathed country heartbreak, and fragments of wandering, blurry jams tying together the labored songs and less calculated strands. A drunk-dial melts into the existential glow of a neon sign on 'I See You' and the sun setting on expectations feels more like a coastline daydream woven through the flanged guitar leads of 'Relieved'. A sense of geographical longing shows up often, as with the long-distance melancholy of "What Time Is It In Portland", one of Colombo's two vocal contributions, and one of the best examples of Bonny Doon's ability to cloak crushingly sad sentiments with deceptively nonchalant hooks.

Though mostly lifelong Detroiters, Bonny Doon represent a nearly direct counterpoint to the common narratives of the city they're rooted in. Musically, they live completely outside of the accepted lineage of hard-knock punk or garage rock, and aesthetically, they reject the tired and often problematic imagery of post-industrial ruin, romanticized emptiness, and tragically shallow hope porn that gets used to sell the Detroit brand. Bonny Doon instead opts for defiantly chill ways of being; visual motifs celebrating beach life, ice cream and simplistic joys. The real irony comes in complex layers, however, as they hide their saddest sentiments under the most stoned, seemingly spontaneous jams. And while there is sometimes darkness under a hazy veneer, the album is guided by an overarching sense that feeling is winning out over logic and things are coming together imperfectly, partially, and exactly as they should.

Formed in Washington, D.C. in January of 2014, the EFFECTS are Devin Ocampo, Matthew Dowling, and David Rich.

A multi-instrumentalist, Ocampo is a former member of the bands Faraquet, Medications, Smart Went Crazy, and Deathfix, all of whom released music on Dischord. He has also toured and recorded with Mary Timony, Beauty Pill, and J. Robbins.

Dowling was the bassist and co-leader of Deleted Scenes, while Rich was the drummer in the instrumental group, Buildings. Both released music on the experimental-minded (and now defunct) local record label, Sock- ets. Devin met both Matt and David years before and while there had been talk of a possible collaboration everyone had their own projects at the time. However, by 2014 all were between bands and it finally made sense to get together and start something new.

For the trio, playing together was a nice change in routine. It was a new configuration of musicians, rather than a recombination of old friends and former bandmates, which happens regularly in the close-knit music scene of Washington D.C. Matt and David offered a fresh perspective and (possibly) gave the Devin a nudge out of his comfort zone.

Since then, the EFFECTS have performed sporadically throughout the East Coast and digitally released four two-song singles. Their full-length debut, Eyes to the Light, will be out this fall on Dischord.

Hong Kong Dong is a quizzical synth-electronic band from Ghent formed by three distinct minds. Together they evoke a very peculiar and twisted sound. One of the gang members is Bolis Pupul, who has released two EP's on Soulwax' DeeWee label. He is the band's synth guru and singer with a unique and delicate voice that flows like a horny tai chi master. He's also involved with other bands like The Germans, Charlotte Adigéry and wwater. Sister Sarah Yu is the furious female singer and illustrator artist who brings with her the playful vibe of a child tossing around a Play-Doh microphone. The man behind the tweaked beats and guitars is Geoffrey Burton, the maestro guitar player/producer who prefers to make his guitar sound like a synth or a cracking bird. 'Trax Test' is the first ever survey of Italy's pioneering, visionary and influential label and mail art collective Trax, which ran from 1981 - 1987 as a network for the creation of collaborative projects. The collective included a pre-NWW Colin Potter and some of the earliest work from Masami Akita aka Merzbow, but also had deep connections with the art world; a few trax members went on to become famous designers and artists - Ettore Sottsass of hugely influential Memphis Group even guests on vocals on the last track of the compilation. The whole selection here is rare as heck and sorely in-demand by collectors, much of it now making its vinyl premiere some 30 odd years after the fact.
With credit due to compilers Vittore Baroni of Trax and Ecstatic's avowed wave fiend, Alessio Natalizia (Not Waving) - who was also behind the 'Mutazione (Italian Electronic & New Wave Underground 1980-1988)' compilation - 'Trax Test' is a portal to the international scene which laid the grassroots for a proliferation of electronic music over the proceeding decades - a pioneering part of the infrastructure for independent music distribution which could be said to pre-echo the myriad social networks and platforms which exist for sharing music today.
As Frans De Waard astutely points out in the 16-page booklet, there were no 'templates' for this thing back then - as opposed to the forms of Soundcloud, Spotify or YouTube nowadays - meaning artists did everything DIY: from cutting, pasting and xeroxing their artwork to xperimenting with recording techniques and disseminating their work; all resulting a wonderfully daring and freeform mosaic of ideas which valued the virtues of ostensibly 'unfinished' or open-ended work, when compared with more expensive, 'proper' studio output.
Traces of disco, cosmic krautrock, jazz, electro-pop and industrial noise are all tessellated across the compilation's 25 tracks, with a number of artists and the same equipment - cheap drum machines, synths, FX and tape - cropping up in various, mutant formations.
In terms of obscurity, quality and variation, this set is right up there with the best compilations from Vinyl-on-Demand (an early supporter of this project), Light Sounds Dark (although Ecstatic guys did it legit, lol), or Minimal Wave, and likewise probably saves you the few months wages it would take to track down all the originals. Fucking bravo, we say!

Originally released on vinyl in 1997 now reissued on a recordings' Anton Newcombe's own record label . The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco,California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start,and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Originally released on vinyl in 1997 now reissued on a recordings' Anton Newcombe's own record label . Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

Anton Newcombes own a Recordings label , this will not be released on CD . This features 3 versions of songs on the A side from the Bravery Repetition & Noise sessions , the B side features 4 tracks from the early beginnings of the band from 1991 & 1992 .

This single is from the forthcoming album Third World Pyramid' which will be released in October 2016 . The B side Playtime' is exclusive to this release ,recorded in March 2016 in Anton's studio in Berlin . The band start their 2nd part of their European Tour starting in August (dates are below) .This single brings the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound mixed with eastern influences & bringing it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.Two dozen band members later and numerous ups and downs' (some have been famously sensationalized in the media ), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective, is front man Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe

The Coral are an English rock band, formed in 1996 by Ian Skelly, Paul Duffy, James Skelly, Lee Southall and Bill Ryder-Jones. The band first emerged during the early 2000s and found success with their debut album The Coral (MOVLP338). Their self-titled debut album was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize and later voted the fourth best album of the year by NME Magazine.

Magic and Medicine is the second album by The Coral, released in 2003 in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number 1 in the charts. The singles Don't Think You're the First' and Pass It On' entered the top ten in the UK.

The album title originates from a lyric in Time Travel, the hidden track on the band's debut album: Well there's a
war going on, ain't the obvious one. It's between magic
and medicine'.

This is The Coral's last album with Bill Ryder-Jones, who departed in 2008 to start a very successful solo-career.

The first limited run is pressed on 180 gram 'Flaming' yellow & orange vinyl. Only 1.500 copies are available. This package includes a printed innersleeve and a 4 page booklet with lyrics and photos.

'Petit Fantôme' (Small Ghost) is the evasive and mysterious pseudonym of Pierre Loustaunau, an adventurous multi-instrumentist with quite the collective experience (Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains, Crane Angels, Le Pingouin, Iceberg). He started his solo adventure in 2006 and after a few moving years, he settled in southern France city Bayonne to write the maxi Yallah (2011) and the mixtape Stave (2013), two highly praised records. Three years after Torse Bombé (2014), a 'melodic-grindcore-punk-rock-pop' project broadcast as a free download on his birthday, Petit Fantôme is back with Un Mouvement Pour Le Vent (A Movement For Wind), natural title for this ingrained skateboarder and casual hiker. Pierre himself willingly sees it as his first album. The perpetually dissatisfied but prolific composer delivers 11 smart, inspired and emancipated tracks. Right from the start, there's a clear taste for the 90s with 'Quelque Chose a eu Lieu". With this way, always so peculiar and moving, to crack the armor: voluntarily short texts, like 'haïkus that can mean a lot' according to Pierre. The immediate hit 'Easy Come Easy Go' with a chorus inspired by Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) by The Beach Boys and the immediate charisma of 'Libérations Terribles' will undoubtedly rhythm the start of the school year. Produced by Edge Of Town and licenced to Because Music, Un Mouvement Pour Le Vent weaves between romantic and cloudy noisy pop music, going from one to the other with a disconcerting agility.

'Exitoca' is a trip into an alternative reality where humans care for each other and the environment, value sensual experiences and dance their troubles away. The title is a reference to the genre known as Exotica', which represented the escapist dreams of a generation of American salary-men and housewives in the 50s and 60s. For Cristobal and the Sea, expatriates from Portugal, Spain, France, Egypt & USA, now based in London, the idea of Exotica' is more than just an escapist plot to avoid workaday drollery, it is a proposed evacuation from the toxic mires of Brexit, the very notion that threatens the place they now call home.

This philosophy is narrated no greater than between the words and music of 'Goat Flokk' where longing, searching lyrics are mixed with both Brazilian Tropicalia-like speed and rhythm with a healthy Syrian-pop breakdown. The fusion of sounds and styles proves that harmony is very much possible when cultures are mixed.

Recorded and produced in a self-made studio on the outskirts of Paris with upcoming London-based producer and artist Yehan Jehan. The lush surroundings, combined with Jehan's creative impetus, offered Cristobal a greater richness to their recording process.

The ecstatic quality of the band, whose personal manifesto calls for warmth, nakedness and polygamy (as opposed to the cold and sexless Brexit reality), is on display in 'The Seed.' This track brings images of lolling natural bodies, flesh and excitement, again with the production and arrangements in full force. Play it loud during your next late night foray with your best friends and you'll see what they mean.

Cristobal and the Sea's Balearic roots are inseparable from their essence. The bossa anthem 'Uma Voz' is a reach out to everyone in their situation, a passionate and all-encompassing hand to everyone facing the same nationless situation.

* 'Is That Light You Carry' is the debut record from Third Culture Kings, a new project led by Jan Johansen (Glorybox) and Alap Momin (dälek). Filtering classic vibes through modern interpretation, 3CK reimagine The Velvet Underground or Leonard Cohen as if they had been mixed by King Tubby and Afrika Bambaataa, all the while incorporating influences as diverse as Indian drone, early 80's synth pads and Miami booty bass.

* Still, it's worth noting that there's nothing about these recordings that's rooted in the past: nearly every sound on the record - sans lead vocals and guitar - was created or recorded directly to an iPhone. Momin created the beats, bass and majority of synth lines on his device, while Johansen then recorded backing vocals, second guitar, vibraphone, piano, horns, rhodes, and melodica as voice memos on his that were eventually dropped on top of the finished tracks.

* Cuts like 'Seven Slayers' send you on an arcane descent into alien subterranea, while 'Sunshine For Sadie' floats you across a dreamy, space-like universe. Elsewhere in tracks like 'Flamingo' and 'Higher', rock and roll guitars are juxtaposed with rattlesnake drums, creating ambient desert soundscapes perfect for an imagined intergalactic western. Throughout the record, hypnotic layers of sound and ambient psychedelics grip you to an electric-folk universe in which slow bubbling beats are matched with woozy flourishes and gently propellant melodies.

* There are few acts claiming to channel Vangelis and Suicide at the same time, and even fewer that also shout out their love of Doo Wop, UK Bass, and Chicago House in the same breath, but this international duo manage to strike all those notes and more. Veteran performers who've outlasted endless trends and toured the world for the better part of the last two Third Culture Kings aren't afraid to stretch the boundaries of style. The eclectic, yet cohesive group of songs in their live shows complement bills featuring everything from shoegaze to commercial R&B.
