2008 Harry Redknapp is busy assembling the highly-paid Portsmouth team that will win the FA Cup a year later. Gordon Brown still thinks he has put an end to boom and bust. Prinzhorn Dance School release a debut album of mesmerising austerity. It stands out from the landscape of X Factor detritus and apolitical indie like John The Baptist at a hunt-ball. The people who get it, really get it. The people who don't, really don't. A Guardian reviewer gives it two different star ratings, just to be sure.

CITIZENS! met, tragically, at a house party. Lawrence was trying to chat up the host, Tom was there trying to impress a date. They both failed miserably. But Tom did walk in on Lawrence and Mike sitting, drunk, and, alone, listening to music. They foolishly decided to form a band. So, thanks to a couple of providential female rejections CITIZENS! came into existence.

The Singles Collection: 2001-2011 is the career-spanning best of from Gorillaz. The Singles Collection: 2001-2011 celebrates 10 years of audio visual innovation and three studio albums from the most successful virtual band in the world ever......

A - Side: I Ain't Hiding (Heavy Disco Edit)

Ashley gets low down and dirty with the southern rock giants The Black Crowes. Their 'I Ain't Hiding ' track was a real marmite moment for their fans. Ashley (being a fan) turns the Stonesy disco rock track (think Miss You) inside out to create a psychedelic dancefloor wig out. Already a big fave with the Horse Meat Disco crew this has been one of Mr Beedle's most requested edits/reworks over the last couple of years and he has decided to let this one out the vaults. It's a monster.

B - Side: Smiling Faces (DarkStarr Edit )

Rare Earth formed in 1960 as "The Sunliners" and changed their name to "Rare Earth" in 1968. They were signed to Motown in 1969. The band was the first act signed to a new Motown imprint that would be dedicated to white rock acts. The record company did not have a name for the new label yet and the band jokingly suggested Motown call the label "Rare Earth." To the band's surprise, Motown decided to do just that.

Their 1973 album Ma, written and produced by the legendary Norman Whitfield, is considered one of their best overall works, and features their version of The Temptations classic "Smiling Faces". DarkStarr sprinkled their juju dust over this funky rock version to create something special. Originally aired as a dubplate for Ashley and Dj Cosmo's infamous Darkstarr nights this now has been given it's vinyl release. A tune for today's troubled times.

"Smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth"

Pocket is the snappy moniker of NYC based Richard Jankovich. As the principal creative mind behind the based electro-pop band Burnside Project he is not just well versed in top notch original productions but also is an indemand remixer (Beck, Radiohead, Kristin Hersh, Of Montreal, Elk City, Joanna Newsom and many others).

His debut release on Tirk is the ever-so-tuneful 'Here In Noiseville'. In this first single Richard pairs up with Steve Kilbey from the Australian rock band The Church. Steve adds his thoughtful and emotively melancholic vocal to the classic, quality synth-pop backing track. First up on the remix duties is sister-label Nang's favourite German golden boy, Justus Köhncke. Justus takes things on the dancefloor route, by adding bigger synths and some Rushent-esque Linn drum. Both Justus' vocal and dub versions are included. Next up, Italian Brioski fixates on the groove by adding his slap bass and driving groove.
