Last summer Liam Gallagher joined the list of all-time greats (Paul McCartney, Page and Plant, Nirvana and many more) who have filmed a prestigious MTV Unplugged session. Having missed Oasis’s 1996 session through illness, the show at Hull’s City Hall found Liam fulfilling some unfinished business entirely on his own terms.

Now Liam is set to release the ‘MTV Unplugged’ live album of the show on April 24th.

The show’s electrifying atmosphere is palpable from the very beginning with a phenomenal reaction as Liam takes to the stage with ‘Wall of Glass’. Material from Liam’s solo career such as his personal favourite ‘Once’ and the joyous ‘Now That I’ve Found You’ resonates in this stripped-back format, with his vocal shining alongside a trio of backing singers and string arrangements performed by the 24-piece Urban Soul Orchestra.

Oasis guitarist Bonehead features on performances of ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Cast No Shadow’ and Liam’s first ever live vocal performance of the ‘Definitely Maybe’ bonus track ‘Sad Song’. The show concludes on a crowd-pleasing high with an emotive take on the classic ‘Champagne Supernova’.

Liam launches the ‘MTV Unplugged’ album by sharing the new version of ‘Gone’, which was one of the strongest performances of the night. Stripped of the force of the studio recording, ‘Gone’ instead reveals new-found bombastic dynamics and an evocative cinematic atmosphere.

Deliberately breaking all the rules Mr. Hornby once famously outlined regarding the creation of homemade (tape) compilations, Saroos’ members indeed had the term “mixtape” on their minds while working on their latest full-length – albeit in the hip-hop sense: a sonic snack box, interconnected shots from the hip, something that just came together and immediately felt right.

Whereas hip-hop folks nowadays often use the vacuous term “project” in order to steer clear of the ontological debate caused by the almost synonymous use of album/mixtape, Florian Zimmer, Christoph Brandner, and Max Punktezahl, otherwise busy with The Notwist, Driftmachine & Lali Puna, stick to the classics: their new 16-track project “OLU” (Off Label Use) is, officially, still an album. But it’s wild and vibrant like a mixtape, interwoven like its cover: a seamless burst of ideas, impulsively combined to form a split-screen snapshot of recent moments and momentums.

Re-appropriating the term “Off Label Use” – which actually means: using prescription drugs in ways that aren’t mentioned on the instruction leaflet – in their own “off-label” way, Saroos never sounded more loose-limbed and elastic. Whereas the trio’s earlier releases were rather conceptual and homogenous, “OLU” indeed has a more loose, spur-of-the-moment feel, a spontaneous force at its core. Checking the weighty sci-fi inspirations at the door, they use that Bomb Shelter-type of freedom to reinvent themselves at every turn, chasing sounds that happened to emerge in the group’s triangular energy field.

Kicking it off “with a killer, to grab attention” (Hornby/Cusack, after all), the massive reverb-stumblin’ adjustment between beats and bass of opening track “Quarantaine” cross-fades smoothly into “Humdrum Rolloff,” an early hint at the group’s off-label practices: the underwater creepers floating around here were really voices (mostly). From majestically built oriental sound-pieces (“Looney Suite Serenade”), synth-based “End House Mario” and a triptych of speaker-boxxxing gas lamp experimentations entitled “Cord Burn 1-3,” Saroos have rarely sounded this playful and unrestricted: there’s a new energy at work that welds all the different sonic playing fields together to create one continuous 40 minute mix.

For the B-side descent, “Tatsu Jam,” at less than 4 minutes still the longest cut, billows over the kind of sizzling hi-hats you’d expect to hear on real trap tapes from Hotlanta. A prelude to a bunch of quicker-paced instrumentals (“Scratch Pets”, “24h Love Gumbo”) and ambient sun showers, until the next “Plateau” (Mo’Wax vibes!) brings the beats to the fore once again (“Tomorrow’s Kudos”), and the ultimate “Whirligig” sounds like a mix of Oktoberfest 2020 and Johnston’s “Casper The Friendly Ghost” coming apart at the seams.
Whatever you wanna call it – album, LP, mixtape, project, who cares? –, it’s definitely a double A-side tour-de-force.

They soundtracked shows like Orange is The New Black and Trinkets. Supported bands such as Garbage, The Kills and Sleigh Bells. Toured with Sunflower Bean across North America. And during all of this, took their explosive live show and pushed it out further, to an already eager, international audience.

Now the band – vocalist Rakel, guitarist Alice, bassist Bella – are back with their second album, So When You Gonna… out July 3, 2020. Just like the title suggests, this is a record brimming with adrenaline and playful excitement (“It’s an invitation, a challenge, a call to action,” says Rakel). From the jagged, CSS-like guitar of “So When You Gonna…” to the hooky brightness of album opener “Sports!” and the whip-smart lyrical asides of “Validation”, these are moreish, pumped up, sparkling tracks that feel like newer, dynamic evolutions of debut standouts, like “F.U.U.” and “Hey Heartbreaker.”

But they often lean into sweeter, softer, more emotional moments too. “With every loss how do you carry through / Know you’re brave to jump back into,” sings Rakel on “Temporary”, her voice floating over melodic, honey-sweet guitar like an indie lullaby. “There are so few songs about miscarriage,” Rakel says, speaking about the lyrics. “People don’t talk about this. And then to not have this as a conversational topic in our society among womxn... you realise, in your later twenties, probably every other one of your friends has experienced an abortion or miscarriage. I think that’s something that needs to be spoken about.”

Loose Fit began when fashion school friends Kaylene
Milner and Anna Langdon bonded over their mutual love of
experimental music. After toying with low-fi bedroom
recordings, the pair recruited Max Edgar on guitar and
Richard Martin on bass and started making some actual
noise. With Kaylene behind the kit and Anna on sax and
vocal duties, Loose Fit’s unique and focussed sound began
to take shape.
 The band’s rhythm-heavy sound contains echoes of UK
post-punk titans such as Public Image Ltd, Maximum Joy
and A Certain Ratio. They’re also fans of the US No Wave
scene, especially the paint-stripper guitar of James Chance
and the pop exuberance of Bush Tetras. Other pop/art
heroes are Talking Heads and the B-52’s, while
contemporary inspirations include Exploded View, The
Native Cats, Raime and Nisennenmondai. Closer to home,
Loose Fit are enthusiastic devotees of their local music
scene, gladly sharing stages with favourites like Exek,
Tropical Fuck Storm, Party Dozen, Pinch Points and
Negative Gears.
 The debut self-titled EP by the Sydney-based group
delivers a snapshot of their signature groove driven postpunk sound in one short, sharp hit. Informed by a DIY
work ethic, the group recorded the EP in one weekend,
employing the help of friend and Sydney
musician/producer/engineer Jonathan Boulet. Initially self
- released by the band as a short run of cassettes which
quickly sold out, this debut effort by Loose Fit will now be
getting the proper vinyl treatment it deserves.

Ren Harvieu announces her long-awaited new album ‘Revel In The Drama’, via Bella Union. The album is a
brilliant, bolder and broader take on her timeless pop classicism, a compelling diary of a struggle with selfbelief and a celebration of liberation and survival, seven years after her Top 5 debut album and having
overcome a life-threatening injury. Think of ‘Revel In The Drama’ as Harvieu’s second debut album; a new
beginning.
 Harvieu’s defiance against the odds and her willingness to lay herself open to make what she believed was
within her is baked into every groove of the record, across every stylistic turn: the giddy pop of ‘Strange
Thing’, the gothic swoon of ‘Cruel Disguise’, the smoky seductiveness of ‘Yes Please’ through to the stirring
torchsong finale ‘My Body She Is Alive’.
 Harvieu has come a long way from the 17-year-old who was signed to Island Records and who had no
intention of becoming a singer-songwriter. Even when she made her debut album ‘Through The Night’, her
confidence was low. “I did help write a few of the songs on that record, which I’m still very fond of, but I felt
more of a mouthpiece for someone else’s talent, which eats away at you especially because I had so much to
say lyrically I just hadn’t learnt how to as yet.”
 Her injury - a broken spine following “a freak accident” between recording and releasing her debut album -
undermined Harvieu even further. Likewise, Island parted ways with her six months after its release, despite
a Top 5 chart entry, making the BBC’s Sound Of 2012, a 5-star live review from The Guardian and TV
exposure. What followed was what Harvieu describes as “some very dark years” which she addresses in
songs like ‘Spirit Me Away’ and the 50’s ballad-evoking ‘You Don’t Know Me’. A split with her long-term
partner, her manager and then her beloved Salford. “In one fell swoop everything was gone. I knew I had to
get away, start again, rebuild myself.”
 It wasn’t until 2015 to be exact, when she met Romeo Stodart, the Magic Numbers frontman and songwriter
who had emailed after seeing her perform on Later… With Jools Holland, to ask if she’d consider writing
together. “When we started, the energy was immediately different to anyone I’d worked with before, there
was this insane instant musical connection” she says. “I loved that Romeo really embraced who I was and
encouraged it, I was starting to realise that I didn’t have to be anything other than myself.”
 The pair spent the next two years co-writing: “I wasn’t in a massive hurry, because at last I was having fun”
Harvieu says. “We’d stay up all night drinking, dancing and playing music, I felt like I was re-discovering a
girl who had been hidden, quietened. I’d tell Romeo, I don’t just want to paint pretty pictures I want to revel
in the drama of my life, the good and the bad, before I was afraid to say something in my lyrics, but no
longer. I felt free.”
 The album was co-produced by Romeo Stodart and Dave Izumi Lynch, owner of Echo Zoo studio in
Eastbourne where recording took place. “It was a truly magical experience working with Dave & Romeo, they
are two absolute nurturing musical wizards.” says Harvieu.
 Harvieu’s lyrical confidence is evident throughout the album and has you leaning in to absorb line after line.
Her voice, soaring and caressing in equal measure, is matched in force by her flirtatious personality. From the
album’s opening lyric “Let me put my paws on you, strange thing” through to the feminine bite of ‘Curves
And Swerves’ - “I’ve got some curves and some swerves, what you gonna do about it?” which crackles with
sexual tension and an aching vulnerability.
 Among Harvieu’s new songs are messages of hope to her younger, anxious self. To the teenage goth Ren in
‘Little Raven’, she says: “I want you to know, that I’m starting to feel, but its gonna take time, but I’m ready
to heal.” ‘Tomorrow Girl Today’ is to the Ren “who would make bad decisions… we can all be very selfdestructive, but will we make it this time?”

 ‘necroscape’ synthesizes a lot of territory: odd-time
rock, musique concrète, otherworld grooves, soul,
industrial noise, microtonal psychoacoustics…
seemingly strange bedfellows on paper, yet in the ears
they surprisingly coalesce into 13 songs which
playfully challenge our notions of sonic logic and make
you move at the same time.
 Five years in the making, ‘necroscape’ mushroomed
organically from Pateras’ production based on tape
loops, analogue synthesis and rarified keyboard
instruments in combination with Patton’s dense vocal
arrangements, Erkki Veltheim’s exploratory violins and
drummer Will Guthrie’s unique percussive strategies.
The result is a handmade, kaleidoscopic tour-de-force
which re-imagines songwriting as something other.
 Packaging features noted artist Talitha Kennedy’s
sculpture work, packaged in super gloss digipak (CD)
and embossed extra glossy gatefold sleeve (white
vinyl).

Warm Digits release their new album ‘Flight Of Ideas’ on Memphis
Industries. The album features vocal contributions from Maximo Park’s Paul
Smith, The Lovely Eggs, The Orielles, Rozi Plain and the Delgados’ Emma
Pollock.
 Infused with the restive spirit of Warm Digits and their guests, these
inspirations are taken as a call to arms rather than an academic panel
discussion. ‘Fools Tomorrow’ uses the language of scientific revolutions and
a spiral-eyed swirl of electro shoegaze to show how being able to accept
you’re wrong can change your life, while ‘Replication’ takes the ever-circling
influence of Steve Reich and cult synth-composers like Laurie Spiegel to
create a luminescent sparkling throb that’s impossible to resist.
 The Delgados’ Emma Pollock lends her vocals to ‘The View From Nowhere’,
which concerns two people working out their closeness and distance. It
could be about any relationship but the title is a reference to the way
psychoanalysts historically kept themselves a ‘blank screen’ with their
patients, as if they could take a ‘view from nowhere’ and be wholly objective
in what they saw.
 ‘Feel The Panic’ sees wigout psych-merchants The Lovely Eggs take
advantage of Warm Digits’ relentless momentum to enthusiastically rail
against pigeonholing and outmoded systems of authority with an unruly airpunching chorus. The song was inspired by the ‘being sane in insane places’
experiment, which argued that the power wielded by psychiatrists’
diagnoses was dangerously capricious and that in some instances the
treatment induced precisely the psychic distress they sought to classify.
 ‘Shake The Wheels Off’ is about the moment when those subjugated by
archaic systems of control take their power back: in this instance, the way
research on transport safety took the male body as the norm, drastically
increasing the risk that women would get injured in a car crash. The
Orielles’ roll-call of female engineering heroes heralds the moment when the
balance starts to be redressed. Meanwhile Rozi Plain gently turns insecurity
on its head over a pulsating Eurobeat-meets-MBV backing to make
‘Everyone Nervous’ almost feel like a valedictory slogan.
 Warm Digits are Andrew Hodson and Steve Jefferis from Newcastle-uponTyne, UK. Their previous album for Memphis Industries, ‘Wireless World’,
featured guest vocals from Field Music and Sarah Cracknell, amongst others,
garnered plaudits from BBC 6 Music including an Album Of The Day slot and
playlists for ‘End Times’ and ‘Growth Of Raindrops’ and boosted them on to
the festival bills of Bluedot, Green Man and Festival No.6, amongst others.

Porridge Radio grew out of Dana Margolin's bedroom, where she started making music in private. Living in the seaside town of Brighton, she recorded songs and slowly started playing them at open mic nights to rooms of old men who stared at her quietly as she screamed in their faces. Though she eventually grew out of them, for Margolin these open mic nights unlocked a love of performing and songwriting, as well as a new way to express herself. She decided to form a band through which to channel it all, and be noisier while she was at it - so Porridge Radio was born. Inspired by interpersonal relationships, her environment - in particular the sea - and her growing friendships with her new bandmates (bassist Maddie Ryall, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and drummer Sam Yardley) Margolin's distinctive, indie-pop-butmake-it-existentialist style soon started to crystallise. Quickly, the band self-released a load of demos and a garden-shed-recorded collection on Memorials of Distinction, while tireless touring cemented their firm reputation as one of UK DIY's most beloved and compelling live bands. The band's sound - bright pop-rock instrumentation blended with Margolin's tender, open-ended lyrics - has developed and refined. Now, they are taking that development a step further, as they put out their label debut, Every Bad.

Living in the seaside town of Brighton, she recorded songs and slowly started playing them at open mic nights to rooms of old men who stared at her quietly as she screamed in their faces. Though she eventually grew out of them, for Margolin these open mic nights unlocked a love of performing and songwriting, as well as a new way to express herself. She decided to form a band through which to channel it all, and be noisier while she was at it - so Porridge Radio was born. Inspired by interpersonal relationships, her environment - in particular the sea - and her growing friendships with her new bandmates (bassist Maddie Ryall, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and drummer Sam Yardley) Margolin's distinctive, indie-pop-butmake-it-existentialist style soon started to crystallise. Quickly, the band self-released a load of demos and a garden-shed-recorded collection on Memorials of Distinction, while tireless touring cemented their firm reputation as one of UK DIY's most beloved and compelling live bands. The band's sound - bright pop-rock instrumentation blended with Margolin's tender, open-ended lyrics - has developed and refined. Now, they are taking that development a step further, as they put out their label debut, Every Bad.

"Aporia" is a New Age album from Sufjan Stevens and his step-father and record label co-owner, Lowell Brams. In the spirit of the New Age composers who sanded off the edges of their synths' sawtooth waves, "Aporia" approximates a rich soundtrack from an imagined sci-fi epic brimming with moody, hooky, gauzy synthesizer soundscapes. The album may suggest the progeny of a John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, and Mike Oldfield marriage, but it stands apart from these touchstones and generates a meditative universe all its own. This is no mere curio in the Sufjan Stevens catalog - but a fully realized collaborative musical piece. Stevens and Brams recorded "Aporia" over the course of the last several years during Brams' visits to Stevens' home in New York with the help of several frequent Asthmatic Kitty collaborators, including Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), D.M. Stith, Nick Berry (Dots Will Echo), John Ringhofer (Half-handed Cloud) drummer and longtime collaborator James McAlister, keyboardist and trombonist Steve Moore (Sunn O)))), guitarist Yuuki Matthews (The Shins) and vocalist Cat Martino.

Third Man Records is proud to announce the reissue of Muddy Waters' fifth studio album Electric Mud, which comes as a continuation of Third Man's partnership with Universal Music Group and the Estate of Muddy Waters.

The album, which Chess originally released in 1968 has not seen a legitimate domestic vinyl release since 2002, despite its enormous influence on generations of blues rockers. It features members of Rotary Connection as Muddy's backing band and was very controversial upon its release for its fusion of electric blues with psychedelic elements. The album is now recognized as a forward-thinking classic, sampled extensively by artists like The Black Keys and Gorillaz.

Honus Honus (aka Ryan Kattner) has devoted his career to exploring the uncertainty between life's extremes, beauty, and ugliness, order and chaos. The songs on Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between, Man Man's first album in over six years and their Sub Pop debut, are as intimate, soulful, and timeless as they are audaciously inventive and daring, resulting in his best Man Man album to date. The 17-track effort, featuring "Cloud Nein," "Future Peg," "On the Mend" "Sheela," and "Animal Attraction," was produced by Cyrus Ghahremani, mixed by S. Husky Höskulds (Norah Jones, Tom Waits, Mike Patton, Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette, Allen Toussaint), and mastered by Dave Cooley (Blood Orange, M83, DIIV, Paramore, Snail Mail, clipping). Dream Hunting...also includes guest vocals from Steady Holiday's Dre Babinski on "Future Peg" and "If Only," and Rebecca Black (singer of the viral pop hit, "Friday") on "On The Mend" and "Lonely Beuys." The album follows the release of "Beached" and "Witch," Man Man's contributions to Vol. 4 of the Sub Pop Singles Club in 2019. At the end of 2015, Man Man went on an unexpected hiatus, and thus began a period of creative reinvention for Honus Honus. He worked in music supervision and on scores (The Exorcist, Superdeluxe, Do You Want to See a Dead Body?). He acted in the indie film Woe ("I played a park ranger, a nice guy in a sad movie."), So It Goes, a short musical film with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and starred in the award-winning tour documentary Use Your Delusion. He also developed an animated series, wrote film scripts, a graphic novel, a neo-noir TV pilot, and briefly penned a music column for The Talkhouse all while continuing to work on new music, such as an unreleased kids' record, another Mister Heavenly album, a self-released Honus Honus record, and a conceptual art/noise project Mega Naturals. In the midst of this surreal exile from Man Man, Honus began piecing together what would become Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between. He recruited longtime-collaborator Cyrus Ghahremani to help him produce. Written in a friend's LA guesthouse that had "an old upright piano, a thrift store lamp, and nothing else," it was an arduous, three-and-a-half-year process, "I had chord progressions that looked like chicken scratch and lyrics on pieces of paper stuck all over the walls. It looked like I was about to break the big case, catch the killer," he says, laughing. "There was a lot of self-doubt, fighting the urge to throw in the towel. It wasn't fun but it definitely forced the best album of my career out of me. Sometimes you just gotta tear it all down to rebuild things the right way. Trust the process."

You’re in a posh room with big Roman taps and all that, but after they go suddenly all you can hear is the taps dripping, and all you can see the debris of the night is around you. Then suddenly a massive party erupts, in the room next door. This happened to me and all I could hear was the night chancer, the hotel ravers.”

Dungen Live is a document of a band playing with and beyond time, passionately reviving a slowly storied history of sound. A captivating ride captured and collaged from two shows in their native Sweden and assembled into one piece of continuous music by producer Matthias Glava. Dungen Live covers all the peaks and valleys, the moments of intuition and inspiration, and the cosmic connectivity between a family of musicians that makes each Dungen show a spiritual shift. The source material for Live was recorded, in late November 2015, at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg and Victoriateatern in Malmö. Joined by Swedish sax deity Jonas Kullhammar (who brought his skills to Allas Sak), these were undoubtedly some massive experiences. Live drops us into moments where Dungen’s right at the edge of the cliff, right at the point where they’re getting out of the time machine to bust into John Anthony’s studio right when Affinity is cutting their album for Vertigo, right at the point where you discover the break on a record that snaps into place over some hip hop track you’ve been listening to for years, and you play it over and over. Entirely instrumental (including a footstompin’ cover of Doug Jerebine’s “Ain’t So Hard to Tell” – check with our buds over at Drag City for the full story on that one), Live showcases what Dungen does best: create a vibe where none existed, build a mood out of circumstance, attack the music with a fan’s soul and a master’s scorching virtuosity. It extends moments out of their catalogue that seemed like they were already explored and breathes new life into them, at times graceful, at others rambunctious, and sometimes a little of both. It stirs memories of when those first import copies of Ta det lungt hit the record store, how we listened in awe and watched the customers turn around, that first shock of awareness, that anxiety over trying to take home what appeared to be the last copy on the shelf before someone else with the same idea beat you to it.

Born William Fussell in 1989 in Adel, Georgia (a small town near the Okefenokee Swamp) Harper’s family quickly relocated to Hollywood, Florida where he immersed himself in the arts more readily available in southern Florida: disco and country music. His father was an Elvis impersonator who introduced him to Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and his mother watched ‘Grease’ with him every
month introducing him to his lifelong style icon, Olivia Newton John. At the age of 10, Harper’s family returned to Georgia, this time to the suburbs of Atlanta, where he would spend his teenage years performing in both church choirs and punk bands. On the day of his eighteenth birthday, Harper left home, beginning his journey to
become the Starmaker celebrated in his album’s title.

 The name ‘Starmaker’ is inspired by the Joni Mitchell classic ‘Free Man in Paris’, which is an ode to the stresses of having to play the game of the music industry. Cowritten with his wife, Alana Pagnutti, the album is not a commentary on Mitchell’s words but it explores similar ideas about fame, fortune and failure. “I'm the starmaker,” he offers. “These songs are primarily about my journey to create them.
The album as a whole, is about my relationship with my wife and loved ones in the search of this success and fame.”

 The majority of songs on ‘Starmaker’ embrace contradictions and dichotomies in both subject matter and style. Love and sadness, melancholia and happiness, success and failure, come in and out of focus. ‘Something Relative’ is an elegantly simple ballad about a friend of Harper’s that died of an overdose. The sparse picked guitar contrasts the flowing, melodic strings as Harper hopefully sings about his lost friend. ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’, a Big Star meets The Eagles turned Krautrock instant classic, speaks to the early days of Harper and his wife’s long-distance relationship; the happiness of finding someone you love tarnished by the eventuality of having to say goodbye. In Dido Building Carthage, a tragic story of love and suicide is contrasted with the hope of building a new empire.

The juxtaposition is mirrored in the surface of Tuner’s painting where classically-painted figures appear and simultaneously fade into a looser, more abstract handling of the landscape.

Jonathan Wilson announces his new album ‘Dixie
Blur’, released via Bella Union.
 The critically-acclaimed artist, multi-instrumentalist
and producer (Father John Misty, Laura Marling,
Dawes) spent most of 2017-18 on Roger Waters’
epic US+THEM tour as musical director, guitarist
and vocalist, singing the David Gilmour leads.
 Following the tour, Wilson chose to temporarily
leave his Los Angeles-based home and studio and
head to Nashville to work with a revered group of
musicians and co-producer Pat Sansone of Wilco,
to create ‘Dixie Blur’, his most personal, accessible
and fully-realised work to date.

Debut EP from the Italian-born Manchester based Julia Bardo,
released via Wichita Recordings.
 ‘Phase’ represents the artist’s quest to make music that is entirely her
own. While studying in Manchester, Bardo met members of Working
Men’s Club, the chugging post-punk English band she would join. Yet
she still itched to have full creative control over her music, which she
uses as a means to understand herself better. “For me, music is
about healing what is hurt inside of me. I heal by writing and talking
about what troubles me. I’ve always been very lonely, and I’ve
always been very emotional - these things inform my music quite a
bit.”
 Bardo’s first-written, debut solo single ‘Desire’ earned attention from
The Line of Best Fit and BBC Radio and saw her enchant audiences at
UK festivals like Neighbourhood, Liverpool Sound City and The Great
Escape. Yet ‘Phase’ marks a defining moment for a forward-facing
young artist and comes with a stark warning: don’t get too
comfortable. “‘Phase’ is a wave, you know; I get inspired and each
time I write, it’s an evolution of what I wrote before.”
 Bardo’s music illustrates her constantly changing world through
journal-like observations that log each trauma and triumph,
influenced by the music she grew up with (Italian musicians from the
60s such as Mina, Lucio Battisti, Patty Pravo and other icons of that
era like Nancy Sinatra) as well as her modern day heroines (Cate Le
Bon, Angel Olsen, Aldous Harding, Lucy Dacus, Sharon Van Etten,
Jessica Pratt and Weyes Blood, to name a few). She co-produced
‘Phase’ alongside The Orielles’ Henry Carlyle Wade at Stockport’s Eve
Studios. “It was exciting,” Bardo recalls. “For the first time these
songs feel like me.”
