Billy Mitchel - Electronic Dance (from The Walkabout Soundtrack)

Accompanying the premiere release of the lost soundtrack to the 1971 film Walkabout, The Roundtable offer a further lost piece of music associated with Nicolas Roeg's seminal New Wave masterpiece.

In addition to John Barry's spellbinding original score, several pieces of popular music can be heard throughout the film transmitting from a portable radio, an obvious symbol of western civilization as the protagonists wander disorientated in the ancient tribal Australian wilderness. .

Here we have documented one of these tracks on limited edition 7" vinyl, a forgotten slice of late 60s lysergic studio-psych from the New York singer-songwriter Billy Mitchel. .

Produced by Brooks Arthur (Holy Mountain Soundtrack), Electronic Dance is a whirling mix of Indian raga, heavy jazz drums, buzzing electronics and tape collage melding into blue-eyed soul folk from the Woodstock scene. .

The perfect psychedelic supplement to John Barry's hallucinogenic orchestral score.

Lelio Luttazzi - I Miei Stati D'animo

Lelio Luttazzi was a multifaceted artist, a jazz lover (whose favourite pianist was Erroll Garner) who left his mark as a pianist, musician, conductor and composer. During a career spanning more than 50 years, he established himself as a master of several disciplines such as music, literature and cinema. "I Miei Stati D'Animo" (My Feelings) is one of his greatest records, where you'll find all his irony and wittiness, his versatility and priceless talent. A beautiful easy listening jazz work, completely instrumental and way ahead of the time it was released (1971).

Peter Thomas & Mocambo Astronautic Sound Orchestra - Space Patrol (raumpatrouille)

"Space Patrol" ("Raumpatrouille - Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion") was the first German science fiction television series. Its seven episodes were broadcast by ARD TV, the first one being aired on September 17, 1966. Being a huge success with audience ratings up to 56%, the series acquired a distinct cult status in Germany and worldwide.

Peter Thomas composed and recorded the original score, which has become a soundtrack classic and collector's item among rare groove afficionados since its original release on Philips. The music, floating between avantgarde jazz, big band beat and spaced-out psychedelia, set a new benchmark in the history of film music and science fiction scores and became one of Thomas' best known works. The title theme is the first known piece of music in pop history to feature a vocoder, a device that until then had exclusively been used for voice encoding in military warfare. Peter Thomas borrowed a device from the Siemens factory to process his voice for the recording of the countdown.

The composer remembers: "When producing the score, I had complete creative freedom. No one had ever been into space, so no one would dare to tell me how the music should sound like."

Now, 50 years on, The Mighty Mocambos teamed up with the legendary musical mastermind a recorded an up to date, truly global and funky 2016 version in tribute of the original theme. "Space Patrol (Raumpatrouille)" is the only official recording of the track released for this anniversary and authorized by Peter Thomas, who even plays on it himself. To give this 50 years version a new twist, the specially formed Mocambo Astronautic Sound Orchestra adds steel band orchestration to the massive brass and funky rhythm section.

The Holydrug Couple - Soundtrack For Pantanal
  • 1: Overture
  • 2: Everything's So Wrong (Part )
  • 3: River Scene
  • 4: Vase of Flowers
  • 5: Whatever You Want
  • 6: Remember Why
  • 7: Pantanal Theme
  • 8: You Are Me (Love Theme)
  • 9: My Sky Is Black (Instrumental)

The Holydrug Couple unleashes their fully-dreamy pop-rock under BYM Records after their acclaimed two records for the NYC based Sacred Bones Records. Conceived to be part of the recently released 'Moonlust' these original and never showed set of songs continues the same displaying of elaborate and delightful compositions that group together to compose the soundtrack of an imaginary film, one of the best non-existing movies of all time'

The music of The Holydrug Couple has evolved from steady drones based on heavy rock coming from Led Zeppelin, Cream and Jiimmy Hendrix from naming big names without oversizing the effect of the music of the Chilean band, but to set some cardinal points, then we have the stoner influx of the first records going through loose drum rythms to drifting psych compositions found in some Love and last Beatles era. Even more, you can find some Neil Young's On the Beach images and feelings, but the main power that emerges from this musical plastic lava lamp is the sense of mystery and joy over human feelings such as love, happiness, mindfulness given by nature's expression, the green after the rain, a colourful spring, a good harvest. Full expression of this can be heard on 'Noctuary' and 'Awe'.

Written, performed and recorded by Alejandro's son, the acclaimed actor, director and musician Adan Jodorowsky, the original score for 'Dance Of Reality' expands from gossamer acoustic folk guitar themes and solo piano compositions to rich cinematic orchestral arrangements, echoing the work of John Barry and Ennio Morricone, combined with extrovert narrative traditional pieces executed in the vein of Nino Rota. In order to introduce a special presentation, the label developed a concept in collaboration with Italian fashion designer Fabio Quaranta, who tailored the record by curating the artwork, in terms of design, choice of material, manner of pressing and the stitching process. This special Italian edition is limited to 500 copies in a beautiful silkscreened felt cover.

Alejandro Jodorowsky - The Holy Mountain

First edition comes in a bespoke, heavyweight tip on-style gatefold with exclusive, extensive sleeve notes by Andy Votel plus contributions from Thurston Moore, Kieran Hebden and others.
After a decade of patience and persuasion Finders Keepers in collaboration with ABKCO finally release the complete soundtrack to what is widely regarded as the most fantastic transcendental spiritual cinematic explosion of our time. The original score to Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain also serves as a lost Don Cherry album, a symphonic funk rock masterpiece and a genuine axis between US psych, free jazz and Swedish prog. Combining midnight movie obscurity with A-list credentials including Dennis Hopper to Marilyn Manson (via John Lennon, Peter Gabiriel and Erykah Badu) amongst it's champions. This mythical album transcends the lot. A true vinyl milestone of mountainous proportions.

Brugnolini - Carnini - Beat Drammatico Underground Pop Elettronico

A fantastic obscure record, whose tracks simply anticipate Techno and generally Electronic music of the early 70s, including Kraftwerk's milestone "Autobahn". The set provides some blending Funk tunes driven by Experimental Electronic music, all with a heavy dramatic feel: the result is an unbelievable, unique and explosive library music LP, a collection of several TV synchronization themes. The Edge of Seventeen is a new coming-of-age movie in the vein of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club - an honest, candid, often hilarious look at what it's like to grow up as a young woman in today's modern world.

Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian starts dating her best friend Krista. All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.

The Edge of Seventeen marks the feature directorial debut of writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig, and is produced by Academy Award® winner James L. Brooks - the filmmaker behind big-screen, character-driven classics such as Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News, Big, Say Anything, The Simpsons, Jerry Maguire and As Good as It Gets.

The film is getting plenty of comparisons to the John Hughes' The Breakfast Club, but it's mostly modern soundtrack helps set it apart from those 80s classics: Santigold's new rollicking Who I Thought You Were,' a standout off this year's 99¢, opens the movie and a pivotal party scene is filled with tracks by festival favorites like Two Door Cinema Club and Anderson Paak.

Furthermore the soundtrack of the film features a hearty and exciting mix of talents as diverse as Aimee Mann, Phantogram, Birdy, Handsome Poets, Miike Snow and others.

The Young Guns original motion picture score has never been released...until now!

Released in 1988, Young Guns is an action-packed cult classic 80s western that tells the story of Billy the Kid (Emilio Estevez) and the Regulators (Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko) exacting revenge upon the Santa Fe Ring during the Lincoln County War in 1878. As good as the movie is, the score is what makes it great!

Composed by Anthony Marinelli & Brian Banks, the Young Guns score brilliantly embodies the off-kilter, emotionally unstable characteristics of Billy the Kid, both the man and the myth. It is epic and powerful, but equally haunting with an underlying melancholy tone.

The album is mastered from the original recordings and pressed on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl for the enhanced listening pleasure of all you audiophiles out there!

Ennio Morricone - Un Uomo Da Rispettare Ost

Un Uomo Da Rispettare translates to "A Man to Respect," which can easily be said of Ennio Morricone himself - the unparalleled maestro of the soundtrack. This 1972 crime film stars Kirk Douglas as a master safecracker at a crossroads in his life, emerging from prison yet tempted by one last big job.

Morricone builds the main theme around Cicci Santucci's flugelhorn as riveting leitmotifs reprise amidst variations of noir-jazz abstraction to frame the composer's grand vision. A strident, two-note piano phrase sets the mood of heightened tension, while muted timpani and trance-like descending bass patterns sweep dramatically across the cinematic stereo field.

On "18 Pari," slinky rhythms and softened wah-wah guitars offer a distinctly Italian library music, adding elements of lightness to the overall avant-garde score. Un Uomo Da Rispettare's dissonant chords and angular arrangements recall Morricone's free improvisation work with Gruppo D'Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza.

This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Krzysztof Penderecki, Harry Partch and Sun City Girls.

Sonic Pieces

2nd Edition! Full Tone Gatefold Cover Artwork, incl. printed Inner Sleeves, incl. mp3

With their second album Moon Ate the Dark is taking the next step of contemporary piano composition. Moving on from their well-received debut album in 2012, Moon Ate the Dark II is based on an extraordinary playful and varied approach to melodies and drones with dedication to subtle, yet complex details.
The combination of Anna Rose Carter's piano, violin and keyboard playing and Christopher Bailey's electronics, amplifiers as well as organs and synthesizers creates something less shadowy than their first album in favour of a more melodic, still thoughtful endeavour that manages to virtuously move on the thin line of nostalgia and optimism.

While the shorter pieces of the record are mostly based on lively piano tunes completed by forceful electronic components, the attentive ‚Sleepy Vipers' is dragging the listener into drones and violin that slow the pace to create an engaging high mark in the duo's recordings underlined by the excellent production that will grip the listener until the very last notes of the wonderful closing track ‚Lo'. Moon Ate the Dark II is an impressive achievement and evidence of how diverting a meeting of two parts can be if they match as perfectly as this.

This LP-Reissue is presented in a reversed cardboard gatefold jacket, printed in- and outside with full tone colours, and includes printed inner sleeves with the original artwork.

John Cameron And Frog - Psychomania E Original Soundtrack

A timely repress of the 1973 score to this British cult biker classic AKA The Death Wheelers. Originally first issued in 2003 by Jonny Trunk, this jazz rock soundtrack masterpiece has become a valuable LP, people paying up to £80 on the second hand market.

Here it rides again, with music direct from John Cameron's master tapes, with new reversed black, red and white artwork to differentiate it from the first press of 14 years ago. Hell yeah!

This is a true cult classic - with zombie bikers, George Sanders (his last film before he killed himself out of boredom), Beryl Reid, Joe Columbo furniture, a frog, brutalist architecture, stone circles, Triumph motorbikes, Nicky Henson, teen gangs, The Living Dead, The M3 motorway, all with music by a British jazz outfit headed up by one of the great progressive jazz / library composers of them all - John Cameron.

Original Motion Picture Score By Bruno Nicolai - The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave
  • 1: La Notte Che Evelyn Usca Dalla Tomba
  • 2: Serpente Killer
  • 3: La Festa
  • 4: Fuga Dal Manicomio

Death Waltz Recording Company is proud to exhume another classic soundtrack from the world of horror cinema with Bruno Nicolai's incredible score to the 1981 Emilio Miraglia giallo The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave (aka La Notte Che Evelyn Usci Dalla Tomba). The film is as mad as its title, Evelyn is dead before it starts and her previously institutionalized husband Alan, who has begun to murder strippers as a form of therapy, is duped by his cousin who wants to rid of his heir. Oh, and there's the matter of Evelyn's resurrection and a whole dose of other murders - it's unreal.

Adding to the surrealism of the situation is Nicolai's deranged score that mixes super effective jarring orchestral with electronic effects and speed jazz that has truly disconcerting time signatures. It's absolutely creepy and utterly terrifying with queasy quivering synthesizers that sound like an entire waves of insects and the juxtaposition of a fantastic bass line with a sawing string effect that is just sickening. And then there's the beautiful typical romantic giallo melody that really stands out, with vocals courtesy of the iconic Edda Dell'Orso. (Charlie Bridgen - Editor: Films On Wax)

Biosphere - Substrata

***2017 REPRESS!!***

One of the all-time classic ambient albums. This edition of Substrata is released by Geir Jenssen's own label Biophon Records. It comes as a double gatefold album with the bonus album Man With A Movie Camera.

Biosphere is widely regarded as one of the legendary names in ambient / electronic music. Residing in Norway, near the Arctic Circle, he has found the focus to slowly and steadily create a self-contained aural universe, made up of reflective and immersive sound sculptures. For almost fifteen years he has released a string of critically acclaimed albums. Substrata, which marked Jenssen's embarkation towards an intensely minimal style, is not only often considered to be Jenssen's best work to date, but is also seen as one of the all time classic ambient albums.

David Stubbs, Melody Maker, 1997: "The best ambient album I've heard in an ice age, an album of terrifying, desolate and all-enveloping beauty".

New artwork by David Coppenhall.

Jerry Goldsmith - Chinatown (1974 Original Soundtrack)
  • 1: Love Theme From Chinatown (Main Title)
  • 2: Noah Cross
  • 3: Easy Living
  • 4: Jake And Evelyn
  • 5: I Can't Get Started
  • 6: The Last Of Ida
  • 7: The Captive
  • 8: The Boy On A Horse
  • 9: The Way You Look Tonight
  • 10: The Wrong Clue
  • 11: J. J. Gittis
  • 12: Love Theme From Chinatown (End Title)

Sometimes, it doesn't take very long to create something brilliant. When producer Robert Evans rejected Phillip Lambro's original score for Chinatown, Jerry Goldsmith was hired to create another, from scratch, in just 10 days.

To say he rose to the challenge is an understatement. Goldsmith, a 20 year veteran of the TV and movie industry with credits including Dr Kildare, Planet Of The Apes and even The Waltons theme, turned in a work that was both a career peak for him and the saviour of Roman Polanski's masterpiece of neo-noir.

What was clever about it It wasn't quite straight jazz, it wasn't quite classical. It was identifiably a movie soundtrack, but an unusual one at that, leaning heavily on Uan Rasey's mournful trumpet solos, sparingly using pianos, harps, strings and percussion, and employing sounds and crashes as overtures. It doesn't try to speak to the film's 1930s setting so much as to the mood and feel of the movie, a piece about political and moral corruption in a water-starved LA featuring Jack Nicholson at the absolute top of his game.

I remember (Evans) speaking about the music having a contemporary feel, contemporary meaning the '30s,' Goldsmith said in an interview before his 2004 death. I said, 'Bob, I don't think so - you see that on the screen, why should I do that in the underscore ... Emotions are timeless.''

Originally released as a soundtrack in 1974, and long out of print, Cinewax's reissue is remastered from the original tapes and is presented as an exact reproduction of the original album artwork featuring Jim Pearsall's classic film art. Drop the needle and hear why Chinatown is, reportedly, David Lynch's favorite soundtrack. Goldsmith was right about emotions...

Homeless and a recovering drug addict, James Bowen (Luke Treadaway) is running low on his luck and finds a ginger cat at his home. From that point onwards, the two lives become entwined.

Roger Spottiswoode's English feature is based on the bestselling novel A Street Cat Named Bob. After their story was published in a local newspaper, Bowen was offered a book deal in 2010 and has since published six bestsellers detailing his life and travels with his ginger cat. Bob has also become something of a celebrity in his own right, receiving the most fan mail of any Hachette author and boasting 72,000 followers on Twitter. They cast multiple cats to play Bob but in the end, Bob played himself for most of the film.

Charlie Fink has written six original songs especially for the film, all of which feature on this soundtrack. He is a British singer-songwriter, producer and filmmaker and is best known for fronting the indie band Noah and the Whale. The songs have prominent placement in the film and are sung on screen at key moments in the story by the main protagonist James, busking on the streets of London.

David Hirschfelder is recognized globally as one of Australia's most distinguished screen-composers, having garnered Oscar nominations for Scott Hicks' Shine and Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth. He is also the winner of two BAFTA (British Academy) awards for Strictly Ballroom and Elizabeth. David's recent film-scores include Craig Monahan's Healing which is nominated for APRA and FCCA Awards.

Graeme Miller/steve Shill - The Moomins

imagine, if you will, a foreboding homemade electro-acoustic, new age, synth driven, proto-techno, imaginary world music Portastudio soundtrack for a Polish-made animated fantasy based on a Finnish modern folk tale and created for German and Austrian TV, composed in 1982 by two politically driven post-punk theatre performers from a shared house in Leeds!
.
To even the most perspicacious and adventurous of alternative music fans the genuine bloodline of this previously unreleased record already begins to sound like an entire record collection in one sitting. It would be surprising if this project's ambitious and exotic credentials didn't tick at least one box on your musical matrix and without one drop of unnecessary nostalgic hyperbole this project already sounds like the perfect fantasy record that you've never heard. Alternatively we could just say The Moomins and, for many, things would instantly begin to make perfect sense.

>From the same social landscape as Gang Of Four, The Mekons and Impact Theatre Co-operative - armed with a Wasp synthesiser, an ocarina and a cassette of the Robinson Crusoe music taped off the TV, Graeme Miller and Steve Shill used minimum means for maximum mayhem, instilling over 35 years of dreamlike illusory fuzziness and freakiness into the memories of a generation of school age TV addicts waiting for the next 5 minute fix of outernational fuzzy felt folklore. Collected here, all in one place for the first time, Finders Keepers in close collaboration with the original composers finally bring the original homemade micro-melodies and reintroduce them to a musical landscape where fans of vintage electronics, concrète tape effects, pocket percussion and domestic synths are finally ready to be reunited with the magnetic music of Moominvalley.

Ennio Morricone - Sacco E Vanzetti

A political statement, so to speak. The movie directed by Giuliano Montaldo in 1971 focused on the unfortunate events leading to the death of Italian immigrants Sacco & Vanzetti. The score was composed by Maestro Ennio Morricone and featured an exclusive track sung by legendary singer/songwriter Joan Baez ( Here's To You - La Ballata di Sacco E Vanzetti') . This is one of the most classical oriented scores composed by the Maestro, with large strings arrangements and classical guitar parts.
