It's fitting that Andrew Weatherall himself discovered George Thompson, aka Black Merlin, in 2012, the year of our never-realized apocalypse. A vinyl release on Weatherall's Bird Scarer label followed, then World Unkown, Crimes of the Future, LN-CC, SORN, New Jersey, Common Thread... Shift focus to Balinese label 'Island of the Gods,' where Black Merlin's debut album 'HYPNOTIC TRADISI' sold out in 48 hours. Bleeding edge fashion label ACNE tapped him for their SS17 catwalk, and Black Merlin continues to push his retro-aggressive style forward to now- his new EP 'Control' for Boysnoize Records. Power, discipline, CONTROL- the word itself is inseparable from the aesthetic mythos of industrial music, channeled so adeptly by Black Merlin across the 4 track release. The first two cuts, 'Control' and 'Secondo,' capture the neurotic, mechanical energy of a fantasy after-hours in a weapons factory- the kind of sci-fi meets political unrest wet dream that was Amiga-tracked through every undercut, black booted teenager's imagination in the late 80's. Production evoking the most dancefloor forward moments of Front 242, a sound both retro and contemporary but firmly planted in dark and aggressive EBM... Sound familiar for a BNR release these days We hope so. Black Merlin's CONTROL EP is more than a record for DJ's, as the last two tracks discard the club's restraints for excursions into sound and narrative. 'Blindfold' is a nightmarish soundtrack to automated torture, complete with shouts and screams. It's a difficult listen but not easily shaken, and like a loose tooth you'll crave returning to it even though it hurts. 'Sequencer' closes the EP with slow, moody, analogue arpeggios, rising, falling, filtering, twisting around, through, over, and under each other. It's a caustic relief, but still a relief from an otherwise relentless EP in a relentless continuation of growth from the artist. Control- Black Merlin's here

This release from DMX Krew, a.k.a. Edward Upton begins with a tribute from the artist to his father, whose voice is sampled on the track. This acid inspired track sets the tone for the rest of the EP continuing to delve into the realms of the 303. The release is only available on vinyl, and limited to just 300 hand numbered copies.

Gal (Juju) and Jordan (Jordash) return home to the Dekmantel stable for their fourth LP. It's their most complete record to date. A series of purpose-written compositions, that highlight their maturity as musicians, and adept dexterity in the studio.

Without the pairing of Juju & Jordash, there would be no Dekmantel. The duo are an integral part of the label's history, dating back to 2009 when they where they were the first act to release on the imprint. The two vagabonds can often be found performing live at various outdoor festivals and renowned clubs around the globe, jamming away behind a tabletop of buttons, knobs, synths, and drum machines - like a retro, control-station from Star Trek - albeit one that hums along with the jazz-centric, discordant house, and techno whirrings played by the musicians.

Nowadays Juju & Jordash have evolved far beyond their 'oddball house' moniker. Their freestyle approach to performance, and immaculate refined sounds have became somewhat more defined, in a style that's unique, yet elaborate, with a sense of otherworldliness, not only befit for the dancefloor, but otherwise transcendental moments. Following on from their previous LP, 2014's Clean-Cut, a record of primal, forward thinking, variations from the studio, Sis-boom-bah is an album steeped in studio traditionalism, with a direction towards composition. 'We wanted the focus of this album to be the music and not necessarily the process, so we made sure to perfect the performances before shifting the focus on to the production,' states Jordash about the record. Recorded over the space of a few, intense weeks, and built upon years of improvised live shows in front of thousands of listeners, Sis-boom-bah was written around grooves written by Juju on the guitar, and Jordash on the Rhodes. It was the first album the duo have written using such an approach, and solely produced and mixed by Jordash in Amsterdam over the course of a year, making it their most authentic record to date.

Sis-boom-bah's diverse, spiritual nature is built around Juju & Jordash's use of polyrhythms. The percussive sequenced grooves, and rhythmic backbone was generated using the Yamaha DX7, along with the Roland TR606 drum machine. This approach to rhythm can be heard from the outset within the very first track 'Herkie', an ephemeral, yet tribal approach to minimalist funk. The spirituality flows throughout the record, where it sounds like the duo have brought along the nature with them from the foresty raves. In actually fact, the background noise comes courtesy of 'noise generators from two separate synthesizers, each with its own filter slowly opening and closing so it kinda sounds like waves or wind.' There are also nods towards their acid influences, with some surefire slices of house music too. Sis-boom-bah is still very much a Juju & Jordash record, yet it's one with a greater depth, musically and stylistically. As electronic music albums go, you'll be hard pushed to find one more complete. "People should listen to this on a loud and clear sound-system," explains Jordash, "high on life, in their own special safe place."

Four youths are exploring unused buildings in a warehouse district when they stumble upon a lone wire running between the buildings. They follow along as it snakes between walls and under gates until they find it connected to a set of speakers. Looking over the wires they read the worn text 'AK0511' aloud. A second later, the cracked speakers begins to output an electro type beat which catches them off guard, but continues to grow louder. While it sounds good, it is still unusual and they look at each other and start to back away. Overtaken with curiosity, one of the kids runs the other way wanting to find where the wire goes....

2 moods. There is "fire" on the A-Side and "water" on the B-Side.

Might remind of a wellknown homework tune by a french duo combined with the quirky tempest of an old djax up
tune and the wonkyness of 1997´s sativae world. The tune was created with a magic machine from Sweden. Analog filter sweeps and bleeps are the crown of a solid bass fundament and are companied by synth leads which rather are guitars screaming into endless space of the club inside your head. this is the "survival of the twisted".

A3 - Part of the "Dunkel" concept album which is loosely spread over various records. Dunkel35 is a techno tempest with another warhammer 40 k allusion. The listener experiences metallic frequency modulation effects, a tempest of sound with almost hearable promises of bass and the secrets of the unconsious rave while we travelling through the warp . Phasers, Pan effects and choirs from beyond make transform the overall image.

B1 - Underworld Metropolis: The title might already suggest it, the kicks and snare drums as well as the synth leads confirm it: Between submarine detroit like aquanautics and dutch electro experiments the track is a hommage to the
wonderfull works of a cologne producer who suddenly left this world in 2003.

'Macht Macht Zement'—what does it mean 80s drums, synths and vocals, almost without context. Fallbeil, two soon-to-be men (aka boys), finish tracks at the rate of butchers kneading meatballs. Due to laziness and a lack of technique, everything gets recorded on one track and immediately thrown into the frier. Nothing is planned. First up, school detention followed by rough LoFi rap.The album contains a wide variety of themes, from mailmen to warthogs, from latecomers to sensible conversation, every track is created out of spontaneity. Two very short tracks on this album date back to 1999, when the boys performed as 'Funky Granatos' in the local youth centers. Sadly, their performances weren't successful. Nobody wanted to listen to them and almost every concert ended in mass brawls. The track 'Postman' comes from the duo's side project Grand Malheur and was recorded in 2015 in Bronxfeld. More output from this project will appear on various EPs in the near future. The album title 'Macht Macht Zement' originates from Tom Pötgen. Tom always wanted to throw the sacred hand grenades. We hope he does that right now!

* Back with the heat, Chicago native DJ Jana Rush kicks off Objects Limited's 2017 with her debut album 'Pariah'. Jana Rush received attention for her mind-bending drum acrobatics on last year's 'MPC 7635' EP also released by Objects Ltd. Jana started djing aged just 13, releasing her first record on Dance Mania back in 1996 but having a hiatus from music between 2000 to 2013. With 'Pariah' she has created an album rooted in Chicago's footwork sound, but with a myriad of influences, such as jungle, acid, soul, jazz and house, developing her sound on from 'MPC 7635'. By popular demand from a kickstarter, now on vinyl!


* We kick off with 'Midline Shift' whose breathy, clipped erotic vocals intertwine with a pulsing bass and dry 808 rims creating a shimmering robotic effect. Moving on, the frantic 'Beat Maze' confuses the mind with white noise rushes and interlocking snares. Changing the scene, 'Divine' is sweetly soporific and charming, a beautiful, almost eerie track. The pace picks right back up with ' ', whose warbling jazz clarinets cut into a juke bounce. The stripped back beats of 'Break It' give one room to breathe before the croaking bass and distorted acid of 'No Fuks Given'. 'Old Skool' is exactly what you'd expect, its sample syncopated around a feverish rhythm throughout. Both 'Rapid Fire' and 'Acid Tech 2' are bangers, hitting you deep in that sweet spot. Jana brings it back down with 'CPU''s computer noises and sub bass hits. 'Chill Mode' gives time for reflection after all that fire, but its no ambient track, theres still that Chi-Town vibe. We finish with 'Frenetic Snare' whose Amen breaks will have Brits thinking of jungle, but it's a different beast altogether.

As we grew up we changed, and as we change we become multiple to the eye of others... As a musicien changes he becomes an artist to my eyes. Acidupdup goes more and more diverse, openminded, having various pleasures with sound... Able to susprise you, able to escape the image you got of him. Turning point again with a true nomad life. Following two Eps, ''La Machina'' and ''Technopiano'', Fabrizio Rat releases his first album of hybrid techno, with an innovative sound palette. The Pianist combines the acoustic sounds and weird harmonics of his prepared piano with the acid loops of the TB-303 and the beats of the TR-909. « I'm much attracted by a certain type of techno, based on the purity of sound. This music can really approach abstraction, the immateriality of thought and ideas. » A track like Aimard', for example, is characteristic of his ambition. « It's a sort of tunnel. It does not develop apart from a few 'turning points', in a similar way to lots of tracks by Jeff Mills, who has been a big inspiration to me for a long time. I feel attracted to his radical approach to techno and his taste of sonic exploration. Many tracks by him have an incredible character. As the records starts, you're all of a sudden facing a new world. That's exactly what I am most interested in, to find a strong vibe of a track, much more then constructing a form with evolution and surprises. » Gould', just before Aimard' in the record, has the same strength but plays with rhythmic elements in a more subtle way. « It's not really techno, but still hypnotic. The first version of it had lots of 909 in it, which has been little by little removed, following the advices of Arnaud Rebotini who coproduced the album and released it on his label. Arnaud pushed me towards a more radical and extreme direction, putting the piano on the forefront and simplifying the rhythmical patterns, to be more effective. This gives to the final result more impact I think.»

Bubbling up from his post-everything cesspit, $hit & $hine cups another killer album boff to the grill of Diagonal with Total $hit!, his second LP and 3rd full release for Powell and Jaime Williams' indomitable imprint.
A rancid ruck of rock 'n roll and industrial entrails squeezed for sustenance and sploshed with classic '80s disco, Total $hit! is nothing if not a definitive Craig Clouse record, insistently playful, scatty and demented in equal measures, but with a couldn't care less attitude that's always refreshing and welcome around these parts.
Following his grindcore lash Teardrops for Riot Season, this one is a return to the heavy truckin' styles last heard on Everybody's A Fuckin Expert with Mego and Good White Good Green for Glasgow's Heated Heads, depositing nine examples of his nonchalant style at its most distended, unsettling and, funnily enough, its most funked-up and effective.
He makes a big entrance with the blind-drunk swagger of Hot Shovel trammelling rabid tribal drums, grunts and pitched voices in a febrile hot mess, before Chklt Shk possibly betrays his no f**ks attitude with some of his canniest, adroit tweaks applied to what sounds like Anthony Shakir and MMM fighting over the last cubicle after a plate of bad seafood, then it's back to twisted smiles and buckie-sloshing skank with the acrid disco nip of Long Island City.
The record's longest, murkiest section follows with the Jacko-shampling Dodge Pot dispensing a slimy hot streak of flatulent mongrel boogie that perhaps outstays its welcome, hence the entrance of two squabbling lasses who tell it where to go, which leaves us with a version of the recumbent coke standard White Horse ready for the knacker's yard, plus a trio of saltier, off-the-wrist jags that only serve to agitate and infect the sore he's been prodding at 'til this point.
Let's be fair: Total $hit! is not big or clever but, it is messy and fun, like the soundtrack to a lock-in at a boozer exclusively full of mad c*nts who were chucked out of every other place.

Arnaud Rebotini teams up with David Carretta for the 'Classico' EP! Both are very close friends and huge football fans, Rebotini supporting PSG (Paris) while Carretta supports OM (Marseille). Both football clubs are huge rivals, as much as Madrid and Barcelona are in the Spanish league. Rebotini composes the 'PSG-OM' track on this EP and Carretta takes care of the 'OM-PSG' track, creating a bridge of their love of football and techno. The deluxe EP will release one day before the match OM-PSG. Both artists will be playing at Cabaret Aléatoire in Marseille on that same weekend (February 24th).

Anfang des Jahres veröffentlichte Nathan Fake sein mit Spannung erwartetes viertes Album "Providence", das die gewünschten Lobeshymnen einfuhr. FACT feierte es als "karrieredefinierend ... eines der besten Alben im Bereich der elektronischen Musik 2017", und das DJ Mag kürte es zum "Album des Monats". Auf der dieser Folge-EP präsentiert Fake den brandneuen Track "Bosky": "ein dorniger, aber warmer und roher Studiojam ist das geworden, beeinflusst von und mit Synth-Autoharphen-Improvisation." Außerdem rief er Tessela und Truss (XL, R&S, Perc Trax, Poly Kicks) aka Overmono sowie Huerco S. (Proibito, Software) und bat sie, das Album-Highlight "DEGREELESSNESS" (feat. Olfactory Nerve is a recent moniker of Thessaloniki-based artist Photis Houliaras, who's been actively conducting experiments and releasing albums on tape under his mysterious guise Le Fonte Son. Influenced primarily by synth electronic music and psychedelic mysticism, the Greek electronic composer is injecting new ideas into something in the ballpark of the unknown rarities from the underground cassette scene.
'Orfeo', his first album for Details Sound, offers a diverse range of original and magnetic output with a naive experimental heart.

A long time ago, at a festival far, far away, the members of the legendary Borft trio Frak were just going to bed in their tent when something caught their attention. Now, this was well before Frak's rise to international fame - in fact, this moment was Swedish music history in the making, because what they heard was someone playing a Frak tune. That someone turned out to be Kontra-Musik's own Ulf Eriksson and once their paths had crossed, there was no turning back. Frak has since released five highly sought after records on Kontra-Musik and Kontra-Musik White Label. When it was time for a 10-year anniversary gathering in Ulf Eriksson's private garden, Frak of course turned up together with other Kontra artists like TM404 and Rivet. For those present - we few, we happy few - this turned out to be one of the most magical summer nights in living memory. The Swedish word for porch is altan, and so, to honour this wonderful experience of the whole Kontra-Musik family coming together, Frak decided to name their brand new album Altan Gathering. Another great friend of Kontra, Henrik Jonsson aka Porn Sword Tobacco, made the album cover and we wouldn't have it any other way. His aesthetic choice of tin foil is on point: Listening to Frak is a lot like biting into a fresh falafel wrap without first removing the aluminium foil holding the delicious mess together; it's mouth-wateringly warm and moist but at the same time intensely harsh and tough to chew. This might seem like a far fetched analogy but if you've ever went partying in Kontra-Musik's home town Malmo you'll know the feeling. And if you've never been to Malmo, well do stop by someday. It seems, when the stars align, the gatherings here can be the stuff both legends and albums are made of.

Scenario founder Sebo K drops his debut LP - a seven track mini-album - entitled 'Patience' on Rekids in November.
Reflecting on 15 years as a producer, Sebo K has an admirable discography but recent years have been particularly exciting. The German producer's continual rise includes recent releases on Bass Culture, Robsoul Recordings and Tsuba, whilst his vinyl-only label Scenario has been putting out wax featuring Ian Pooley, DJ Honesty, Jus Ed, Dan Curtin, DJ Deep and Diego Krause. Having cemented a
reputation for consistently quality house music, Sebo K's debut on Rekids exhibits a refreshing sound from the established artist.
Echoing notes and ethereal chords usher in 'Paradigm Change' as breakbeats join a moody bassline for the release's opening cut. Picking up the pace, rattling percussion, ghostly pads and sci-fi inspired synths make up 'Xhale', whilst syncopated drums and eerie atmospherics see Sebo edge more towards electro in 'Transitions'.
Breaks make a welcome return in 'Restless (Darkness Mix)', a suspenseful track complete with ominous synths and elements of rave, contrasting to the otherworldly and futuristic aesthetic of 'Eyes Wide Open'. Amongst the seven tracks are two instrumental numbers called 'Messier 78' and 'Atlantis', which feature twinkling melodies and serene strings to add a cinematic touch to the overall package.

AB2088 aka Andy Brown emerged from the shadows earlier this year with his critically acclaimed debut album 'Sagittarius' on Computer Club. TX0 follows up in the form of a mini LP and 7" single on CPU.

Brown has already shown his knack for crafting beautiful red planet-esque techno and this album galvanises his reputation. A number of different tempos and dystopian soundscapes can be found throughout, all held together with jacking TR style sequences.

A quick split between H.J. and A.N. One freaky-deaky drum tool that operates on it own wave in space and time on the A, and the other side - a snappy, hazy ode(s) to the Rhodes.
