Joane Skyler - Sssssssss

Sssssssss

Limited Green Vinyl Prssing!
With only one release to her name so far, the excellent 'Orz' tape for the Reckno label, plus a regular show on NTS, the artist who may or not be a pseudonym for visual designer Jason Kerley returns here with her first release pressed to wax, a 30-minute odyssey that glides into the hardcore continuum and re-shapes various forms and formulations of electronic music along the way. 'sssssssss' is a 30 minute trip split into two continuous sides that run like a mixtape, coming to life on the frazzled low-end modulation 'Fingerbang', through the fractured, minimized UKG overhaul 'Swoon', the delicate, micrsocopic electronics of 'Sex Smell' and the growling mentasm Grime of 'No Liquid'. We can't think of many records we've had through our doors that borrow as much from the UK techno/Artificial Inteligence espoused by the likes of early 90's labels such as Likemind as they do from the frequency fuckery of Evol and Playstation engineered Grime and Garage - but Skyler manages it effortlessly. The standout moment of the album comes with 'Langwellig', conjuring the spirit of early rave with the barest ingredients, lost in a haze of ferric smoke that feeds into the next transition on this forever-shifting trip...

Kastil / Adryiano - Uattefak

Limited Pink Vinyl Pressing!
In recent times Soul Notes tilted a little towards more groove driven, distortion laden
machine funk. SNX001 is the missing release out of the SNX series thus far. Label head honcho
Kastil joins up with Cologne based "Adryiano', who is quickly becoming one of the labels favorite household names.
The signature SNX sounds is developing into a dark psych-oriented club sound which this EP represents as never before. The opening track ''Snakes and Holes'' is pure percussive machinery with the heaviest overdriven kickdrums you'll ever hear. On the A2, Adryiano sets the mood with a low swinging bass and some eardrum deafening kicks which progresses into the B1 which is perced out to the max with some 303 bassline drama and distortion to top that off.
For the B2 track, head honcho kastil shows off some Lo-fi drum action on Controversy.

Deadbeat & Paul St Hilaire - The Infinity Dub Sessions

Deadbeat. Tikiman. Infinity. Dub. A quadrangle of such obvious statement and perfect musical inference.

Deadbeat. Tikiman. Infinity. Dub. A quadrangle of such obvious statement and perfect musical inference may very well never have been uttered for those of the wholly weeded out persuasion. Indeed, when the great book of Dub music is written the names Scott Monteith and Paul St Hilaire will undoubtedly figure highly in its chapters devoted to recent years. Monteith, the last great prodigal son of the doctrine handed down from the Blue Mount of Lord Scratch and King Tubby, St Hilaire the undisputed voice of a generation, those fanatical warrior monks, followers of the most Holy House of Ernestus and Von Oswald incarnate.

Having developed a fast friendship from their very first meeting in Montreal at the premier Micro Mutek event a decade ago, Deadbeat and Tikiman's occasional collaborative performances have since blown the minds of audiences from Berlin to Tokyo and many points in between. No great surprise then that their first album length venture is a Tour de Force of Dub music of the highest order.

Nearly a year in the making, the genetic code of Deadbeat's Infinity Dubs series gets shot through with a Dreader than Dread Kingstonian logic, hi hats dropping back from the three to the one, Tikiman at his most militant, poetic, fierce, and flowing. These are the recordings of two lions uncaged, and none who bare witness shall escape their fiery judgement.

If music is truly eternal, here be two voices which shall echo in infinity with all the weight, reverence, and dire power unleashed with every tectonic bass hit, and every whimsical turn of phrase. And if these eight burnt offerings are any indication of what happens when these two sit down for a session of smoke and reasoning, here's hoping they choose to do it frequently. Dub without end. Ad Infinitum.

Arnaud Le Texier - Why Not Peeps Ep

Arnaud Le Texier cut his teeth managing music shops and building a huge collection of records during the nineties. His vast knowledge of the house and techno scenes led him to establish two widely acclaimed underground labels: Atcha, along with British dj James Warren, and Kailash. In 2005, he founded Safari Electronique, a more personal and experimental imprint that focuses on minimalistic sounds and sensual dance-floor oriented grooves. Since moving to London, Arnaud has been playing at some of the most famous clubs of the English capital such as T-Bar, Kubicle, Secret Sundaze and, most importantly, Fabric, where he held some memorable parties for his label. This ep sees the France born producer coming back to Aloe Records with an impressive and utterly elegant set of tracks: "Global Swift"'s deep, warm chords strum along emotional vocals and a rolling bass line, while "Recharges"' delicate pad melodies and intricate and subtle vocal snippets welcome loopy filtered trippy and mesmerizing synth stabs, 909 rim shots and a slightly off-beat sounding clap. "Platinum" is lively, boasting yet more 909 craziness and a mind altering ebullient spectral arpeggio, underlined by a chugging kick drum: a straightforward banger, this one shows Arnaud's harder and uncompromising side. The release closes off with "Digital Waves", where the monolithic bass is matched by a steady progression: a chemical feeling made human by the tune's lolloping sense of propulsion.

Eduardo De La Calle - Suprawax005

2

Two new SUPRAWAX releases by Eduardo De La Calle. The four tracks on offer here bear testimony to De La Calle's search for the perfect loop. They are hypnotic grooves, almost entirely devoid of arrangement in a classical sense. But the tracks are not static. They suck you in by means of constant modulations, build free flowing structures of their own, hints of peaks emerging at the mercy of the low frequency oscillators' cleverly set phase relationships. These tracks do not need the in-your-face kick drums and squashed dynamics of the Brickwall Generation. By leaving space, they work on a different level than solely sound pressure emanated. The simple, repetitive structure coupled with the unhasty development find their way into the dancer's brain. Moving your mind—your ass to follow suit. All records have been pressed in a run of 400 copies and come in inside-out natural cardboard sleeves. No represses are planned at present.

Jack Dice - Sip Paint

Sip Paint

12inchLOVE93
Modern Love
24.02.2014

The second EP from Jack Dice sees a huge leap in ambition for the project, a 5 track session that's more addictive, direct and heady than its predecessor.
'Sip Paint' centres around 'Stash's Theme' featuring rapper and producer Stash Marina, a track that deploys crisp triplets and saturated production straddling mainstream signatures on the one hand and a world of analogue/deviant recording techniques on the other. It's an odd, hyper-addictive track - available here in both vocal and instrumental versions.
'Low Glo', 'Kerosene' and 'Radium Dial' are more subdued and immersive; you could draw lines straight through the material here to a number of different projects Twells has been involved with through the last decade, though he seems to benefit immeasurably from Chambliss' presence. The pair find a perfect balance between their respective disciplines, resulting in an EP that at different points throws stylistic references to everything from Prince's Black Album to The Art of Noise, Drake, Philip Jeck and Evian Christ's DUGA 3 sessions - without ever sounding overworked or too knowing, a feat in itself.

Echologist - Storming Heaven

Echologist aka Brendon Moeller is undoubtedly one of the most hardest working Techno artists around the globe and has left a prolific trademark in the electronic music world. His 10th album, Stroming Heaving' floods us with deep emotions and a unique sound experience. Prologue is always looking for new directions of electronic music and we feel strongly that this album fulfills the Label´s pursuit in a extremely exciting way. It will be treasured for years to come. This is music to immerse oneself in and explore sonic depths and worlds of synthetic sound that resonate on many levels . Brendon's intention for this album was to push himself beyond the comfort zone in an effort to make an album that more than any other project he has done will reveal a distinct and unique voice. While it reflects musical ideas from composers that have inspired him, he has attempted to personalize and interpret and therefore create something idiosyncratic yet nostalgic. 'The Frequency Of Love", the first track shows us what humans can do with machines. This is the perfect way to start the journey into this masterpiece. It is with pride and excitement that we present this to you. Dive in and enjoy the sound of an artist in full bloom.

12inchLOVE92 BLACK VINYL
Modern Love
10.02.2014

Released almost exactly a year on from their debut 'Struck' EP, Liam Morley and Dan Valentine return with 'New Brutalism', an exploration of angular, brittle club music.
Referencing the stripped-down, utilitarian aesthetic of Brutalist architecture (a detail of Preston bus station features on the cover), the 5 tracks here mine looped, blocky source material gradually embellished with more complex percussive and atmospheric layers that are at once robust and introspective.
From the opening woodblock/rave dismantling 'UK WIll Not Survive' to the heady Hardcore of 'Three Day Jag', the EP evokes a distinctly Northern British Weltanschauung, a joyous revelling in melancholy that goes as far back as the earliest dances documented in Mark Leckey's 'Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore' - somehow unique to British nightlife.
The EP closes with the industrial clang of 'Run Out', the cacophony slowly converging into an alignment of percussion and space, trigerring that feeling of re-emerging into daylight at the end of a long night. Blinded by all the light... by all the possibilities.

Jamaican Recordings - Rare Dubs From Jackpot Records

The productions of producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee were so extensive in the early to mid 1970's that labels were created just to handle his ever expanding output.
Three labels that came about during this time when dub was king were Jackpot. Justice and Attack.
Here we look at the Jackpot label and have compiled a collection of some of its finest dub cuts.
Jackpot Records was formed in the early 1970's as a subsidiary of Trojan Records to handle the output from the hitmaker from Jamaica..Bunny 'Striker 'Lee
Bunny was at the birth of dub and worked closely with Dubmaster King Tubby, having his masters stored at Tubbys allowed his rhythms to be worked on by Tubby, whether it was to remix or add vocals to an existing tape, the new interest in the dubbed version would see the next single being worked on for its version side.
We have gathered here what we think are some of the best dubcuts from this label and era..
Hope uou enjoy the set
