Gerry Read - Patterns / Last Time

Gerry Read's much loved 'Patterns' finally receives a limited edition vinyl run backed by new track 'Last Time' - available exclusively on vinyl. 'Patterns' brought euphoria to a dark dub/2-step sound and has been rinsed by forward-looking selectors like Untold, Starkey & Mumdance - and played on the world's smarter radio stations, Rinse FM, Sub FM, Subjam & Fevah. New track 'Last Time' is a slab of reverse-engineered, 2011 house music. A stepping woodblock rhythm pins down plaintive vocals as a spooked synth line controls the release. In any one else's hands that would add up to dark vibes, but Gerry crafts it to deliver bittersweet euphoria of the best kind. Expect to hear this track everywhere, from grimey backrooms in Bristol to Ibiza beach bars. Since receiving widespread acclaim for his first release from the likes of FACT, Sonic Router and other forward-thinking blogs, Gerry is now working on a number of different label projects, and collaborations with up and coming artists. Gerry recently returned to the UK after spending several years in Australia. The separation from the UK bass scene helped him craft his unique sound, while retaining a deep understanding of his musical influences. Sonically, comparisons range anywhere from Actress to James Blake, with a love for dusty, crushed, vintage sound. But few other producers can combine sonic warmth with real dancefloor energy. Dark Arx Recordings is a home for artists on the fringes of the dubstep/bass/techno scenes.

Cosmic Metal Mother - Zen Locomotive

This is the third 12-inch for Panacustica, delivering a deep, atmospheric ambient track by Cosmic Metal mother: "Zen Locomotive". As soon as the needle drops onto the vinyl, a train sound emulated by a moog transports us through a gentle melody consisting of moods and textures created by uneven loops of sustained sounds, suggestive of a scenery from a train window in full speed, where color shades melt as well as time and space exactly like the music, an Intense trippy and esoteric journey.

Furesshu - Lucid / All I Want

PSQ005 is Furesshu's follow up 12 inch release to last year's trio of tracks (PSQ002) that garnered attention from Ben Klock, Sigha and Marcel Dettmann, who continues to play out his music regularly. Furesshu's bleak and powerful remix of L-OW (PSQ003) has been criminally under appreciated, and now his second 12 inch on Project Squared (PSQ005) will showcase a more House influenced, but still Techno at its core, sound with 'Lucid' and 'All I Want'. Both tunes work around short vocal snippets, employing them to melodic, repetitive effect within a sparse but subtly evolving soundstage. Providing a remix of 'Lucid', Shifted converts the House tinged original into straight up, heavy hitting Techno, with relentless kick drum, melodic stabs and the occasional clap. Shifted has made a big impact with his debut 12~ on Mote Evolver and he has a stack of 12s lined up for 2011 on some very solid labels. Similarly, with a forthcoming release on the new Commune label in early 2011 and more to follow, this is going to be a big year for Furesshu.

Freedom Soundz - Sampler Volume 1

A1: Attias - 'Blue Note'
Long synth notes and an upbeat percussive base work well on this laid back track. Nice, mellow bassline gives that extra something, great track!!

A2: Simon Weiss - 'Dance City Central'
Upbeat, straight house beat with a jazzy piano riff, cool feel on this one.

B1: Aldo Kapone - 'Just Dance'
Cool beat, with a deep/tech house vibe. Mellow, slow attacking synths really add to the groove. Killer!

B2: Maurice - 'Still'
Delayed synth stabs echo into the atmosphere of the track, a cool deep house feel with lots of space and groove.

Subscape - Time To Escape Ep 2x12"

Never a label to do things by halves, smashing up Fabric's dancefloors on the regular and unleashing artists like Caspa and Rusko onto the world of dance music, Dub Police are adding their stamp of approval to the next wave of dubstep superstars. This time it's Subscape's turn to raise some audio hell with a set of tunes that've been staples in the sets of Skream, Benga and The Others for months. Setting things off with a bang, Subscape takes a sample that'll be familiar to any D&B fan and crafts it into a straight up dancefloor monster. 'Screw Up' is what you'll be doing with your face when this one drops! 'Just Coz' heads down into an epic journey of gradually progressing bass notes, winding electronic effects and sweet euphoric pads; post-rave progressive dubstep. Continuing on the epic vibes is 'All Day' with another familiar vocal snippet and tinkling piano lines all riding effortlessly over a driving bassline while 'Mr Kipling' proves that Subscape can make 'exceedingly good' tunes with a filthy jump-up swagger. DJ Support: Benga, Caspa, Rusko, Scratch Perverts, Skream, 16bit, 501, Doctor P, Excision, Futurebound, Hatcha, High Rankin, Jakwob, Mensah, Mistajam, Mrk1, Reso, Rossi B & Luca, Sukh Knight, TC, The Others and more!
