HAME DJ - SANDTRAX EP

Following up to a pair of choice transmissions on Aussie operated imprint Vulcan Venti, Perth-based rising talent Hame DJ turns up on KOC with a debut four-track platter oozing pure elegiac acid vibes and transient, sci-fi-infused ambient, seamlessly hedge-hopping from UK bass to liquid jungle, through gauzy atmospheric techno and bastardized shades of Rephlex-style electronica.

Fresh as a cucumber, opener ‘On 1’ ushers its listener in a world of keys-loaded, faux-organic layers and rippling ’90s motifs. Threading its way betwixt garage, dub and piano house, the track brushes an equally vivid and dynamic tableau of shape-shifting floor-ready electronics. Starting off as a further mischievous affair, A2 ‘Zoot’ sounds like the outback cousin to Paul Woolford’s seminal steely burner ‘Erotic Discourse’ but soon evolves into a top-shelf breaky chugger that shall jam alien radars as much as it should have everyone on the dancefloor down on their knees in a jiffy.

Breaking the B-side in, slo-mo drifter ‘Nightlife’ turns the tempo down to ‘after-party sunrise’ mode. Implementing a lushly arranged battery of swampy 303 arpeggios, soft-spoken piano stabs and vaporous vocals, this one’s custom-cut for daydreaming with a bunch of friends by the Gold Coast’s idyllic seaside. Topping off that otherworldly journey is ‘Erosion’ – a FX-laden, hip-hop drums-strewn slab making the rounds between sepulchral, Kraut-dunked broken beat a la Tolouse Low Trax and post-Drexciyan synth wizardry. Proper mind-expanding stuff from a producer on the cusp of real big tings.

Yotam Avni - Tehillim

The Israeli producer Yotam Avni, though not one of the main players in the Stroboscopic Artefacts story to date, nevertheless shows that he is definitely here for a reason: having contributed with an entry in the Monad series back in July, he returns with a new set of tracks that fit perfectly into the label's overall aesthetic of evolving hyper-reality, while also being a strong personal statement. With both his S.A. debut and this new offering, Avni shows himself to be a truly 'progressive' musician: a creator whose musical techniques are informed by his creative disposition and not the other way around, an individual who seems to be using the richness and differentiation of human experience in order to let yet more of it arise.

The new record begins with the galloping rhythm of "Tehillim", bringing a whole inventory of struck wood and metal elements into play, and leading listeners on an adventurous voyage through liturgical chanting and volcanic eruptions of synthesizer magma, all the while being accented with nimble percussive fills that convey the improvisational feel of classic bebop drummers. The following "Orma," while more stripped down in terms of individual elements, continues down the same path with clever spatial arrangements, and with tonal and percussive elements that seem snatched out of their buys urban environments and placed under austere laboratory investigation: this holds true for the isolated bits of sax and vaguely middle-Eastern percussive accents that the improvisational feel of classic bebop drummers. The following "Orma," while more stripped down in terms of individual elements, continues down the same path with clever spatial arrangements, and with tonal and percussive elements that seem snatched out of their buys urban environments and placed under austere laboratory investigation: this holds true for the isolated bits of sax and vaguely middle-Eastern percussive accents that distinguish this track, and which leap out mischievously from their carefully controlled setting.

"Shlok" begins with a deep subterranean kick pattern and percolating bell tones that, while first bringing to mind recent efforts from Planetary Assault Systems, soon transform into something much unique to Avni's imagination - smooth arcing vocals and contrasting shades of nocturnal ambience turn this into a very sinuous and sultry piece of rhythmic music. Once the listener has been lured in by this siren song, the closer "Even" brings the EP's most forceful and demanding beat - though its heavy punch is tempered with a sense of contemplative sophistication. Once the insistent beat is overlaid by a shimmering latticework of piano, breezelike pads, and concentrated string plucks, it testifies to Avni's ability to create tracks that are loaded with emotional nuance and defy easy description.

Samuli Kemppi - Huuto pimeässä

I like working at my studio in the night time. Silence around me is an endless source of inspiration. Sometimes I become part of the silence and sometimes I have to shout to fight against it. My studio is my voice, my primal scream. These tracks are live recordings from my nocturnal studio sessions. There probably wasn’t any goal or aim when I was working on these tracks. These pieces came together from various paths and different origins. Man controlling machines. Chaos refined to something that you can save as a file or put a needle on.

This has tore the roof off many a gig over the past two decades, and when it first came out the original was hammered by the likes of Dave Clarke, Ribbz, John Berry (The Orbit), and many more techno heroes!

On the flip label boss Louk turns up the Birmingham meets Rotterdam inspired Penalty Kick. Having the working title of 'Fuck VAR' and continuing the theme of Division 1 by Pitch Invasion, here he goes for something meticulous but driving, with an energetic remix from Germany's techno stalwart, Andreas Kraemer!

Al Bradley - Little Treasures LP (2x12")

3am Recordings brings you its debut album, from label boss Al Bradley. While it would be much easier to get some huge name in for this who is previously unrelated to 3am, it was never going to be like that here. Staying true to the ethos of the label, it was important that this milestone was a reection of the label and what it has always stood for. The move back to vinyl in 2015 has rmly planted the label back
in its place as one of the UK's most consistent for house music, retaining its value of working with artists who have been involved with the label over its 19-year history, or who have been rm supporters of 3am during its time. Over the 9 cuts there are a variety of vibes, 'Little Treasures' aims to cover a selection of sounds that represent Al's inuences & styles, having been buying records since the mid-80s &
playing vinyl as DJ since he got his decks in 1991. The past is important as it represents where we started, the future is equally important, as it's the area of the unknown & we have to embrace it...

Covering deep house, dub techno, broken beats, raw machine funk, beatless ambience & more, the album is one that is danceoor-aimed, but works beyond that area too. With support from the likes of Placid (We're Going Deep), Carlo Gambino (We_R_House), Lolu Menayed
(Rawtrax), Lars Behrenroth (Deeper Shades of House), Loz Goddard (Oath), James Reid (Sonet), Moodymanc (2020Vision) & many more, the album reaches right across the spectrum of electronic music.

RIOT Radio Records
23.01.2019

This is the 11th release on RIOT Radio Records, an independent techno label based in Scotland.

LADO is an extremely in demand Berlin based Producer and DJ. When it comes to producing, he's a knob twiddler through and through, a complete and utter hardware freak who loves to tweak. What you get from LADO is nothing less than 1000% nasty, underground, unadulterated, menacing machine mayhem of the wildest techno variety.

This 12" has two original tracks and two remixes by D. Carbone and Endlec respectively. From start to finish this 12' gets more and more rampant as it pounds along at a relentless pace. It starts with a bang and ends with a BANG.

The full digital release also features two additional remixes of 'Wings Of The Antichrist' by Kenny Campbell (Pitch Dark Records) and Mickey Nox (Green Fetish Records), both of which are full on RIOTous panel beaters.

WARNING: THIS RELEASE WILL INDUCE UNCONTROLLABLE NOISY BEHAVIOUR, INVOKING RETRIBUTION.

Katabasis
09.09.2022

Sanna Mun debuts on her imprint, Katabasis, with a three techno cut EP (vinyl & digital).

Sanna Mun is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Her approach to production is inspired by her work as an archaeologist, using digital modeling and field recordings of ancient sites to extract their psychoacoustics. Sanna's multifaceted sound ranges from ambient to mental and classic techno. Her sense for organically evolving motifs drives her live sets, which resolve to induce a state of meditation. Sanna's music has already received support from O Phase, Developer, and other mainstay techno names.

Katabasis started out as an experimental techno event at Sameheads in Neukolln, Berlin in collaboration with local musicians and visual artists. The vision behind the project is to springboard underrepresented artists reinventing minimal, hypnotic and early techno. Its name and imagery derive from Western esotericism, rooted in Sanna's experience as an archaeologist specializing in occult sciences. The label's first release features tracks exploring Pythagoras' musica universalis, planetary frequencies informed by her studies with Luz Peuscovich.

Basement Jaxx Feat. Lisa Kekaula, Butch - Good Luck (Butch Remixes)

Dropping on Rekids this May, Butch remixes 'Good Luck' - Basement Jaxx's ubiquitous 2004 single featuring Lisa Kekaula.

Appearing on 'Kish Kash', Basement Jaxx's third studio album, the unforgettable single was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance Recordings category and also reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart and number 2 on Hot Dance Club Play in the US. 'Good Luck' also featured as the opening theme of 2004 anime movie Appleseed, Victoria's Secret fashion show in 2003 and 2005, and a version without lyrics was used for the opening sequence of BBC's UEFA Euro 2004.

Real name Bu¨lent Gu¨rler, German producer Butch has been a formidable force within house and techno for over two decades, enchanting crowds from all across the globe with his technical performances. Highly regarded for producing compelling grooves, his releases have appeared on labels like Desolat, Cocoon,
Rekids and Sei Es Drum, not to mention collaborating alongside Virginia, C. Vogt and Ricardo Villalobos (as Butric).

Receiving regular early support from Villalobos, Butch has provided three different renditions of 'Good Luck' and the 'Remix' is a rhythmic roller from the off, featuring numerous elements from the original whilst generating a cacophony of percussion as Kekaula's iconic voice is chopped and looped - the result is highoctane and geared for the dancefloor. The 'Dub' strips things back, purely using segments of the vocal for instrumental purposes as a whirring bassline joins deep synths and mesmerising effects. Tying it all together, the 'Drum Tool' is a high-tempo percussive cut produced for peaktime DJ sets.

David Ismael - Line of Faith

Limited pressing in 12" written & produced by David Ismael, review and mixdown by @kaskakomk.

The Portuguese DJ/producer presents us 5 tracks from his 2nd Album. This release showcases the quality of his productions, bringing in also some participations such as Phonic Lounge, Akur and Kinkaid.

"Line of Faith" is a rave from the underground old school. The acid hits your mind and you can feel the power of thundering outside.

David Ismael and Phonic Lounge deliver us an amazing track, "Earth Calling" it's full of juice and has such a big bass rotation.

"Black Beauty" is a collaboration with Akur. This tune sounds like you have to kick the drama and get off the slow rithms from another era. Looks and smells like acid in the subway!

David Ismael and Kinkaid made this beauty "Fused Souls", the heart is beating with a crush, let's go into my basement and close the door. Nice rhythms that make everyone stay on the dancefloor.

"Temper" the big room tech track, that sounds like it's from a new era. The music makes you feel like that someone was gone a long time. Such an epic edit for the vinyl edition. This track will also be on the artist video clip.

Rove Ranger - Millennial Millenium EP

Following outings on Rinse FM and HOR, German producer Rove Ranger takes aim on the next release of Lobster Theremin’s full-blooded techno assault; 4 very different cuts of pulsating, bass-driven techno that have one eye in the rear view mirror and the other firmly fixated ahead.

‘CS80’ is an aquatic, rhythmic experience; bubbling with blues, greens and pinks in a techno climate so often associated with grey. A beautiful blend of the new and old school. Tough, but with a touch of soul. ‘Millennial Millenium’ is a blissful trip through neighbouring underworlds and spirit hollows, unrelenting kicks and ghostly atmospherics crafting a cut of psychedelic graveyard techno.

‘La Manana’ is more of a heads-down affair. Punchy bass accompanies the kicks on a track that instantly captivates; less concerned with emotion and more with increasing heart rates; it's a tripped-out, bouncy experience that screams fun. The EP is rounded off with ‘Horse On Acid’. Have you ever seen a horse on acid? We have, and this is exactly what it sounded like.

Yiannis Iliakis - Mountainmouth

Violet Vinyl + DL Code

Yiannis Iliakis is a multi instrumentalist and composer from Athens. He is mainly known as a drummer. As such he is a member of the free jazz band Outward Bound as well as a member of the successful Greek progressive rock band Ciccada. However, that's only one side of Iliakis' creative efforts. In April 2021, he released his first full length electronic album entitled Vertical Horizon on the Submersion Records, which mostly is an ambient work. Now, with Mountainmouth he opens another chapter for his musical talents.

The EP is one of the most thrilling and adventurous takes on what the IDM term usually would suggest. The key song might be the title track "Mountainmouth" - an extremely energetic composition which won't leave you unaffected. As per most of Iliakis' songs it is based on originally recorded drums that were heavily edited. In the next step, these were combined with chords, melodies, bass and harmonies on top. The musical result is simply breathtaking - one might even call this track electronica for prog-rock heads. Surely a perfect opener for the release.

The next song is Carbonated Soap on which Iliakis is going straight forward. The catchy melody and a fresh uptempo beat are offering something that could even fit well into a club-friendly DJ set. Next up, comes "Infected Walkman". According to Iliakis, it was the first one he made for this project when he participated in an art exhibition. This track, as well as the following "Sad Plants", are both down tempo and chilled, yet keeping an experimental vibe without loosing a soulful and human touch. Coming closer to the end, "Exodus Denied" is a brilliant experimental ambient piece, more similar to the works on the Vertical Horizon LP. Finally, the EP ends with a short edit of "Carbonated Soap" that jumps right to the more energetic parts after the first break.

Mountainmouth may not be an easy listen at start - but we are sure the music has the power to be another classic release from our catalogue. The EP will be released in July 2022 on a very limited 12" vinyl as well as digitally. The cover artwork was done by Iliakis himself. We are very excited to present a new artist to you on Equinox with so many different talents.

Kamyar - A.N.E.P

The “A.N.E.P” release consists of three tracks which transcend you to the world of Keramati, quirky electro, splashes of acid and rave themes throughout. The A1. “A.P” is built upon crunchy and mechanical movements, laced with trippy tones throughout. Sinister synths melt together creating an illuminated atmosphere for the chugging body of the track to continue its drive forward. “Ecliptic” sits comfortably as the A2, an elasticated simmering bass line stirring
around the dusty nostalgic drums, before switching up into a bubbling groove and acid whirlpool. Taking up the whole B side is “A Never Ending Pattern” a gripping nine minute quest that showcases
Kamyar’s signature production energy. The track continues to develop throughout as many curious elements and textures are invited to the table, each of them conversing with the other. A huge sounding track that will light up club and festival spaces in the coming period.

ROOTEO & MAHURA - METTĀ REMIXES III

REPRESS!

Returning for 2019 with our first 12-inch release, Made in Green Records concludes Rooteo & Mahura’s opening salvo, with reinterpretations from the artists themselves and the label head putting their marks on already-outstanding material. Leading off the release, we find the original ‘Caxixi’ from their debut LP, Mettā, with its tablas and vocals rubbing against billowing clouds of bass and dubwise effects; Made in Green boss Vasco Ispirian turns in the first rework, a thickly layered, relaxed tempo dub techno trip. Barely- recognizable remnants of the original’s percussion and vocal lines occasionally surface out of the subaquatic haze before surging kick drums push them back beneath the surface. Appearing here under his recently-birthed 4NYØN3 project, Rooteo, best known as Marcos In Dub, closes the release with a pounding techno remake that utterly transforms his own & Mahura’s work. Squashing the original’s ambient sonics into unstable delay traps that reappear prominently in the breakdowns, he grafts this into stringent techno, adroitly wrought and with details to spare, the scrambled fragments of sound emerging between heavy drums and contributing to the dark and downcast mood that pervades the piece.

Kassian - Chance Is Our Greatest Ally

‘Chance Is Our Greatest Ally’ celebrates the launch of Faux Poly, a brand new label from Kassian

The label name pays tribute to a hardware-focused production style which they first experimented with on their “Faux Polynesia” EP on Phonica White. This stylistic turning point encouraged further exploration into this direction, discovering new processes to make genuinely unique dance music that focuses on the idea that the best sounds are not imagined and then created, they are discovered.

2024 Repress

Rotterdam based artist ''Ben Buitendijk'' has been around for quite a while now. With a string of releases of labels such as ''Ogun Records'', ''Eshu Records'' and appearances on the mighty ''Field Records'', the time has come for Ben to launch his own imprint. Inspired by the city of Rotterdam and his love for anything architectural, Oblique was founded. A label that is designed to cater to Ben's vision on the overall electronic landscape and to display his love for well thought out drum patterns with dense long-stretched builds and strained atmospheres.

''Venomous EP'' comes in a package of three extended techno cuts with a certain corresponding theme. As the title might suggest, all cuts have a certain
touch of hazardousness to them.

''Black Mamba'' is best explained as the experience of poison slowly creeping through one's veins and leaving an irreversible trail of destruction.

''King Cobra'' feels more boisterous than it's predecessor. Again, a long repetitive build keeps on changing into a slightly psychotic state of being while razor-sharp bits of synthesis tickle the listeners brain like when undergoing acupuncture.

''Stingray'' is the final cut of this first ''Oblique'' effort. Whilst maintaining the corresponding ''Venomous'' theme, the last endeavour is a thumping outcry of muscular drums, a ponderous bass shot, and haunting pad sounds that together create a dystopian character. As an extra, Ben has thrown in an ominous locked groove that should be useful in adventurous club settings.

ESHU
22.10.2020

Dutch groove connaisseur Ivano Tetelepta returns to his home base ESHU Records. Presenting four tripped out originals accompanied by two excellent reworks by befriended artists Jasper Wolff and Ion Ludwig. The pack perfectly captures the loosely and laid back attitude of the label and Ivano himself, doing their own thing as always. The a-side is all about the groove, a stripped down and playful rhythmic jam built for a hazy late night session with Ion Ludwig turning this inside-out, transforming the original into a lengthy minimal dub version. The early morning sun rays bring the vibes on the flipside where 'Loosen Up' is an atmospheric 90s feeling techno floater where Indigo aera head honcho Jasper Wolff shakes this up with a fierce techno twist. As special addition there's a 7" where Tetelepta shows one of his enlightening dub meditations and a rambling early Mills-esque tribal work-out. The whole bunch is mastered by Marco Spaventi and will be released digitally and in special 12"+7" pack.

It’s that eerily familiar transitory state between here and there, where a shift occurs and the thrill of the change perforates through the atmosphere like a dreamy fog. Some find this anticipatory realm uncomfortable, but some find it as the means for creative inspiration. For the 17th release on Welsh imprint Haŵs, Naarm-based DJ/producer Solar Suite explores the playful liminality of dusk and dawn, taking locked grooves and prog sounds as the tools to transform the strange into something exhilarating.

Vitalic - Dissidaence - Episodes 1 & 2 LP (2x12")

2LP Gatefold with colored vinyls

Locked down and furloughed, Vitalic went back to his synths and beatboxes, resulting in his fifth album "DISSIDÆNCE" - the title of which is a whole story in itself - destined to be released in two volumes. He describes it as a return to the roots of his sonic identity, a kind of reinterpretation of the rock energy of his early albums. "More than anything, it was a question of timing. While composing I realised that eight tracks felt like too little for an album, and sixteen was really over the top, so I decided to cut the whole thing in half! The main reason though is that I felt I hadn't been able to express everything I wanted to on the first volume - like something had been left unfinished."

The two episodes of "DISSIDÆNCE" - navigating between pop and hardcore, sweat and tenderness, melancholia and anger - are a sort of boiling down of what the artist knows how to do best, after twenty years of creating, from filthy whirlwinds that make your mind explode on the dancefloor to bubble gum pop songs about love that transport us elsewhere. On these two volumes of "DISSIDÆNCE" that now form one, the powerful beats and galloping sequencers translate the social and political anger of the global pandemic, and Vitalic looks into the past, channelling his love for off-kilter synth sounds, skew-whiff pads, heady refrains, distorted vocals and heavy beats. Above all, this dancefloor marathon expresses his obsessional passion for dance music and the primal need to dance. "DISSIDÆNCE" should be taken as both a celebration of celebration and a journey back in time to an era that maybe does not exist right now, but which will - and this album is the dazzling proof - be reborn from its ashes to burn bright once more, its BPM let loose and rage still blazing, because more than ever, to dance is to live.

Gramrcy & John Loveless - Highdive EP

Blue Stamped[12,82 €]

Incl. Schacke Remix

Having been extensively road-tested this past year by DJs including Daniel Avery, HAAi and Gerd Janson, Highdive arrives with tangible anticipation. The work of less-than-shadowy figures Gramrcy and John Loveless, the pair have passed lockdown and beyond remixing artists such as WH Lung, Discovery Zone and Ghost Culture. Debuting their first original material, closely following Gramrcy’s recent appearance on Loveless’s own Hot Concept imprint, Highdive is a long-anticipated explosion of energy.

Built around a sonic-boom breakdown, glossy rave chords and pounding post-punk drums, Highdive feels immediately at home on Phantasy. Having worked closely alongside founder Erol Alkan in recent years to shape the imprint's diverse output, Loveless' collaboration with the Peach Discs founder nods to the electro landscape of the label's earliest days. Having never left dance floors since, Gramrcy & John Loveless take a golden opportunity to plunge dancers into the sublime and the ridiculous.

While a stripped-down ‘Beats Mix’ sees the pair adopt a less-maximal approach, leave it to Schacke to stretch Highdive into hardcore rave heaven. The already-influential Copenhagen artist underscores his refreshing funk in the ‘fast-techno’ scene through which he has risen, turning the screws and upping the tempo with intense but elastic results.

THE PARADOX (JEAN-PHI DARY / JEFF MILLS) - LIVE AT MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL LP (2x12")

Jeff Mills - electronics; Jean-Phi Dary - piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizer; Zaf Zapha - electric/upright bass.

With the release of The Paradox: Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, techno legend Jeff Mills and keyboard wizard Jean-Phi Dary embark on an exciting, ground-breaking musical trip that takes Techno and electronic dance music to a new level. In the past Jeff has spoken of the need to, "take a few steps back and try and assess what has been done, and what might need to be approached to be able to go forward." Paradox: Live at Montreux is the result. "Trying new things is important, it's reminding people we have not exhausted all possibilities with what we can do with electronic instruments," he says.

Jeff argues that the form of Techno we know today formulated itself around the '80's and the early '90's, after the bang of the rave culture, yet audiences today are still content with the conceptual heritage of Studio 54 and Paradise Garage - that minimal form of music and repetitive loop-form of dance music that everyone dances to today. "I really think creatively we have exhausted ideas to a certain point and I think it's healthy to look to other genres and the key elements that make them interesting," he continues. "You look and compare and maybe borrow some ideas, and bring those back to electronic music, to see if it can further our creativity."

The Paradox's direction of travel into unexplored musical territory should come as no surprise since the Original Techno Wizard has never stopped pioneering new ideas. After all, when he originally burst on the scene in Detroit in the 1980s he was ahead of the game - mixing on three turntables, introducing a Roland TR 909 drum machine in his sets, and co-founding Underground Resistance in 1989. Throughout his career he has been exploring the creative possibilities of techno and electronic music, pushing at its boundaries to broaden the music's possibilities, such as introducing a programmatic element to Techno with his the score for the 1927 silent film classic Metropolis or his 2001 classic Time Machine, based on H.G. Wells' novel of the same name. Never content to outstay his welcome by staying in the same place for too long, in 2005 he revealed the breadth of his imagination with his conceptual classic Blue Potential, an album with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra that saw techno happily co- existing alongside symphonic sounds.

And now, Jacquline Caux's Man From Tomorrow - the title of her film documentary of the Techno maestro - has cast his eyes over the musical horizon and borrowed a couple of ideas which he believes can transform Techno and take it to the next level, "I thought maybe it's not to late to bring or transfer some of the ideas from jazz over to electronic music, and look at the machines differently - to play the machines and not just 'programme' them. I had the idea of trying to find the common link between free jazz and electronic music, so I reached out to jazz musicians to see if we could create something new that might be a benchmark that we could start from to create another step forward for electronic music."

Turning to keyboard player Jean-Phi Dary, with whom he had collaborated on the late Tony Allen's album Tomorrow Comes the Harvest, he remembered the musical ideas he had exchanged with the pianist while the sound engineer was doing his stuff during sound-checks on tour. They were akin to having a conversation that could move in any direction until a topic emerged for discussion they liked and could develop. Musically, they threw ideas out there to twist, turn and develop until they hit a groove and moved forward with that. Jean-Phi takes up the story: "During the sound checks we use to improvise with Jeff, and one day he called me and said 'why not record these moments.' I already had an answer - YES! I love improvising. To me it's a combination of freedom and discipline, a real feeling of being deep inside yourself and in the same time being aware of every sound coming from your co-improvisors, from your co-creators." The result was their first album together as Paradox called Counter Active.

It was a bold move, leaving the rhythmic certainties of Techno to explore alternative, free flowing paths that allowed the breeze of change to blow through its highly compressed rhythms. Next came the challenge of presenting their ideas in live performance. They chose the demanding Montreux audience, and with the addition of Zaf Zapha on bass, the resulting album captures their spontaneous musical invention as it happens in the moment. It's a high risk, high reward strategy that was pulled off with conviction and aplomb. While each track has it's own story on Montreux, Jean-Phi says, "'X-Factor' is a big trip and 'Super Solid' is a real groovy track to dance" - what's happening here is the electronic sounds of Techno are used to spontaneously interact with the piano, producing a deep musical conversation not pre- determined by tape loops, a MIDI presets, the 96 rhythmic patterns stored in a TR-909 drum machine or the bass patterns of the Roland TB-303 electronic synthesizer-sequencer and all that technical geekery. Everything was up for grabs, Jeff even pared his electronic set up down to the minimum - "I didn't even use a MIDI" he explained - so the music could go in any direction the creative impulses of Jeff and Jean-Phi wanted to take it.

"We decided to stay closer to the tracks from Counter Active like a city map, but move as freely inside them as possible," explained Jean-Phi. Tracks like 'X-Factor' and 'Super Solid' provided a starting point and framework for the duos explorations, "The Montreux tracks are different variations of those tracks we created in the studio," explains Jeff. "We just knew we were going to do a track that's supposed to be called 'X-Factor' or one that's supposed to be called 'Super Solid' - I think it's safe to say that we didn't know what was possible, we didn't know that until we got together to perform. In that recording I did a lot of new things that I've never have done before, 'The Concept' and 'Paradox' basically come from the soundcheck jam sessions we used to do with Tony Allen when we used to tour together, and once we took the Montreux stage and began to play it was the extension of those musical conversations."

What could well be a small step for Jeff and Jean-Phi could be a giant step for Techno and electronic music. Breaking new ground, they have loosened-up the music's rigid structures to let a little sunlight in while introducing an element of unpredictability and danger that moves from the mechanical to the intuitive. Pushing the envelope like this in search of risk and adventure poses questions of where it all might lead. Who knows? But what we can be sure about is that the future looks bright, full of unexplored potential and possibilities. "It's not necessarily the form of jazz I'm interested in," says Jeff, "it's what you can create in the moment is what is going to be the key element of how long this genre of Techno music will last."

Tomohiko Sagae / Dominik Müller - The Other Colours Of Poison

The latest entry from Furanum sees label boss Dominik Muller and repeat contributor Tomohiko Sagae return from remix duties on the label's preceding long play release for a four-track split vinyl treatment of Fu020. On The Other Colours of Poison, acting apart yet seemingly as one, they both dispense with nearly any pretense of an introduction, epilogue, or abstract ambiences, and instead opt for a pure and dancefloor-bound effort of four-to-the-floor industrial relentlessness encapsulated in two compositions to a man.

Sagae notably eschews his signature noise-manifesto driven approach in favour of a compelling centering of groove as a prime determinant of musical force. The results of this approach are on display first in 'Tartrazine,' where a rhythmic mind-worm seemingly burrows it's way in, assimilating and holding the beholder in a frantic dance of oscillatory sway. Likewise, in 'Amaranth' an ineluctable sense of technoid acceleration is achieved, with each of the composition's successive loops driving the sense of propulsive sonic force relentlessly forward,
not unlike the turning of a violent accretion disk tearing matter apart.

As for Muller, he builds on his previous work to construct two reliable aural vehicles for the delivery of unrelenting and thematically oriented vehemence. 'Demut' is like a scene of surrender to an engineered and shifting collosus, overwhelming all attempts at its full apprehension as cogent reverberations puncture the surrounding temporal space. On the flipside, in 'Toxic Environment,' he captures the narratively framed pulse of a phrenetically beating heart, beating on despite all odds through sheer force of will and self-overcoming.

Mastered by Kassian Troyer, The Other Colours of Poison will be available on vinyl

Christian Hornbostel - Liber Tertius EP

Christian Hornbostel’s third LP Liber Tertius serves as a summation of Hornbostels recent musical tastes. His defining feature is an immense and overwhelming sound design. Texture dominates over structure and rhythm. While definitely not an ambient album, its easy enough to get lost in whats happening in or around the beats. It's something that anyone who loves electronic music, sound and sound manipulation, can fall in love with; no one's going to care about time signatures or genre conventions. It's an instance that astonishes, not from Hornbostel's deft production touch but by his restraint, his willingness to indulge in the most beautiful simplicities. As such, it's not representative, but stands as another surprise from a producer long since known for them. Whereas Hornbostel's previous albums may have had a tendency to come across as a collection of tracks presented as an album rather than a long playing concern that actually flows, Liber Tertius is the opposite. It's an album of impressive scope and intricate detail, and one that proves that this German producer, with three decades into his career, has plenty left to say.

Norman Nodge - Embodiment EP

Norman Nodge

Embodiment EP

12inchOSTGUT116
Ostgut Ton
23.11.2018

After a seven-year hiatus, the longtime Berghain resident Norman Nodge is back with four new tracks of deep, narcotic techno. Hailing from Brandenburg, Nodge spent the 90s as a DJ, promoter and mentor to the likes of Marcel Dettmann and Marcel Fengler before becoming a Berghain resident in 2005. Since then he has occupied a special place in Berlin techno with a sound that is at once forceful, dubby and hypnotic, evident not only on his Berghain 06 mix and various 12's and compilation contributions for Ostgut Ton, but also on EPs for Dettmann's MDR imprint.

A lawyer by trade, on Embodiment EP Nodge reflects on decades of observing how dancers develop an intuitive relationship to music and process new sounds. 'Tacit Knowing' (A1) is a nod to the feedback loop between the instincts of dancer and producer, combining bassline, breakbeats and Detroit-like strings, which subtly develop into a cavernous techno roller. In contrast, 'Discipline' (A2) is aggressive, updated peaktime acid packed with the sounds of metal and overdriven snares.

On the flipside, 'Gathering' (B1) is a bongo-heavy tribal groover, while 'Embodiment' references a more halcyon Ostgut Ton aesthetic - one that resonates not only in the space of the club but also within the bodies of those occupying it.

On the A-side, Dawl delivers 'Microbe', a sleek acid slow burning that truly stalks the listener, before Kiddmisha ups the speed and the eerie moodiness with 'Anxiety'. Harvey McKay - Black Spider EP

Harvey McKay makes a welcome return to Cocoon Recordings with the Black Spider EP, featuring three heavy-duty cuts that spin out in a variety of directions, constructing a formidable web of peaktime mayhem in the process.

Black Spider bites hard from the get-go with a venomous bassline that pulses and mutates through a series of precision peaks and troughs. The track kicks repeatedly, drenching the dancefloor in washes
of analog noise while McKay still finds space for a barrage of lattering percussion. Haunting ambient voices and a mysterious spoken mantra add yet more texture to the cavernous, gothic atmosphere it
conjures.

Next up, the disconcertingly titled Sticky Carpet utilizes a 90s hard house vibe complete with crunching, distorted beats, and a glistening octave-jumping synth pattern that slides and constricts around the chugging bassline. However, the track really comes into its own as alternating metallic patterns start to dominate in a homage to the hi-hat, whipping the dancefloor into shape as they switch in and out, jostling relentlessly for attention.

Finally, hardcore junglist tendencies take center stage on Packed Lunch as another rasping, doomsday bass rides the sonic spectrum, simultaneously spitting sparks and shaking the foundations to the core. Scattered arpeggios add a certain discord to the fray as the pounding breakbeat hammers out a pathway to oblivion. Packed Lunch definitely packs a punch, adding extra spice to an EP that’s
exclusively for the headstrong.

If you've ever had the feeling that things just don't make sense, that there's a hidden world of dark magic waiting in the dead spaces, the forgotten corners... well this is the music for you.

Dutchman Erik Griffioen's obsession with the esoteric is well known, and for some time his Lloyd Stellar alias has focused on this sense of the world just out of view.

Griffioen runs LDI Records as an outlet for his prolific creativity, but this release for Gated pulls from his early works, the tracks that almost got away.

This is one-strobe-in-a-dark-room electro, which rides the fine line that exists somewhere between euphoria and madness. It's relentlessly underground. And we love it.

Azu Tiwaline & Al Wootton - Alandazu' E.P

2022 Repress

Continuing the theme of community collaboration sparked by Hodge and Simo Cell’s recent 12”, Livity Sound presents the first joint works by Azu Tiwaline and Al Wootton. While they come from distinct settings (Azu in the Tunisian desert, Al in London’s urban sprawl), their music shares a similar affinity for intricate percussion and dub-informed space.
The four tracks on LIVITY052 deal in a variety of rhythms and tempos, veering from the propulsive intensity of ‘Blue Dub’ to the sparse, skipping 2-step framework of ‘Light Transmission’. Azu and Al’s refined, detailed approach blurs the lines between electronic sound design and earthy sonics, resulting in dynamic drum tracks loaded with weighty atmospherics and unrelenting tension.
Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

Drafted / Nima Khak / Qindek / Pascual - Isolator

Invite's choice continues with a coherent and versatile 4-track EP showcasing hypnotising techno.

Drafted has the honour of opening up the EP and does that with 'Isolator'- a 4-to-the-floor track dominated by the low-end. Nima Khak then takes over on the A-side with 'The Work Out', a stripped down and tension building track with droning percussive elements which suck you in right away. Qindek's input is found when flipping over the record and continues the hypnotic previous tracks whilst depending on an ever-evolving synth-sequence, yet this track makes a more aggressive impression due to the straight forward and present kick and percussion sequences. Pascual closes the 7th output of Invites Choice with a powerful and overwhelming track which conveys a lot of energy. The long stretched, slowly filtered effects and dominating shakers make for a repetitive closing of this EP. The four different artist on this EP take us on a tour through minimalistic modern-day techno's versatile approach on stripped-down techno and stand firm combined!

Locked Club - Atom Hell EP

Repress

Our favorite Russian punks, Locked Club mark their return to Tram Planet with the "Atom Hell" EP, a 4-track assault that continues on their destructive path. With the title track opener "Atom Hell" a pulsing distorted bassline saturates as the fluttering melody drives on for maximum effect. Electronic Body Music is in full-form here; whether it be the pumping wildcard "Skreamer," the hand-drum heavy "Memphis Mumbai" for the more adventurous-minded, or the Memphis rap-infused "What" - all make for destructive weapons for both club and body.

Roll Dann - Oppression Dance EP

Madrid's Roll Dann keeps up the high quality of his first few releases with a new EP on his Opera 2000 label that offers four fine cuts.

Roll Dann has already impressed with outings on Modularz, Soma and PoleGroup. It is the direct nature of his floor facing techno that appeals, and it comes infused with the inspirations he has picked up from a stint living in Berlin, as well as with the legacy of his teenage love of hardtechno-schranz. The start of Roll Dann & _asstnt's Opera 2000 marks a shift Roll Dann's creative direction where he focuses on an aggressive yet beautifully emotive style which is displayed wonderfully in his first solo release on the imprint entitled "Oppression Dance".

Big opener "When The Hate Goes Away" is a frazzled, over driven techno monster with slamming kick drums and fizzing synths that will rewire any dance floor. The brilliant "Break The Dance" then hammers you over the head with its brutal drums and big synth walls, but a more thoughtful pad also smears over the groove to bring some tenderness. "Oppression" is quick and slick, with a kinetic sense of techno funk getting you on your toes. Last of all "The Club" is another winner, this time with its eerie pads, acerbic textures and rusty hits all racing along on powerful drum programming as a distorted voice is trapped in its midst.

Independent label MASK returns with another untitled release featuring six innovative interpretations.
Blossoming Berlin-based imprint MASK continues to invite anonymous artists to the label, delivering quality cuts produced using analogue gear across the imprint’s trademark style of raw house, techno and ambient territories. With support from the likes of ItaloJohnson, Truncate, DJ Bone and Ryan Elliott, DATE welcomes

The widely appealing package opens via the filtered loops, layered sonics and low humming frequencies of ‘A1’, whilst ‘A2’ reveals a deeper, darker cut with sharp boom bap drums, distorted tones and warped effects.
Next, ‘A3’ has an ethereal edge and explores a plethora of robust sounds, dubby chords and heady, pulsating rhythms.
On the flip, the richly euphoric ‘B1’ leads with seductive drum programming, chopped-up vocal snippets and scintillating keys that take listeners to another level. Penultimate offering ‘B2’ reveals a driving, feel-good affair before rounding out proceedings with the off-kilter, jazz-leaning and undoubtedly enrapturing soundscapes of the low-slung ‘B3’.

Ido Plumes - Balancing EP

Following a debut appearance on the reverse label in 2020, Bristol-based artist Ido Plumes is back on Livity Sound with four tracks of experimental dance music for soundsystems. Plumes established his sound with pointillist drums and echo chamber atmospherics the first time around, and now he builds on that premise with a more dense and dramatic approach.
Plumes’ layered tracks follow non-linear narratives, switching lanes and exploring unusual, evocative landscapes while retaining a fundamental physicality. Longer form tracks like ‘Afloat’ cover a lot of ground across their run time, while the likes of ‘Been Here’ revel in audacious plot twists to create strikingly confident and original variations on the UK dance music tradition.
Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

Reinhard Voigt - Cha Cha Club EP

It’s time for a new Reinhard Voigt EP on Kompakt? It doesn’t feel like it was that long ago since we last heard from him but then again, time is running! His latest release on Kompakt "Was wir spüren" (KOM 402) was released in May 2019. From there we encountered Reinhard's musical work mainly in the form of various digital reissues or in union with his brother Wolfgang together as Voigt & Voigt. Then in August of 2021, a glimmer of musical life from Reinhard reached his loyal fans in the form of a continuation of his RV ultra-minimalist concept series as "RV 05 / RV 06" via our KX imprint.

So that brings us to the present. Two new tracks that preach and spin on the classic Reinhard Voigt sound. Tracks that are as relentless as they are consistent to his signature stoic, radical, minimal techno. "Cha Cha Club" creaks and stomps along so mercilessly that they leave us impatient for the reopening of a dark, foggy club room and to have the bitter taste of gin and chemicals on our palates. Bass drum in, bass drum out - sometimes that's all it takes to be happy.

With "Die Frau, die nach Deutz ging" Reinhard discloses a small tale in the title...that this is the continuation of "Der Mann, der nie nach Deutz kam", a track from “Was wir spüren”. Elements recall Reinhard Voigt's SPEICHER tracks; sovereign, modern techno, monotonous in principle, but here and there interrupted and structured by unexpected signals and sounds in such a way that the track will also work on larger dance floors.

Eine reguläre, brandneue Reinhard Voigt 12inch? Das ist nicht nur gefühlt schon eine ganze Weile her. Time ist ja bekanntlich running.

Shlomi Aber presents his third album 'Linear Equations'. The ten-tracker LP closes the ten years celebration of the label and follows his 2010 album 'Chicago Days, Detroit Nights' on Ovum Recordings. Through carefully crafted EPs on NonPlus, Figure, Be As One and more recently Odd Even and Drumcode Ltd, Shlomi's sound has continued to evolve and refine with his Linear Equation album. The LP opens up with 'Interior', setting the tone for an introspective journey that will take you from the dub infused techno of 'Echo Mission' and 'Fractions' to the acidic trip of 'Midnight Spooks' and 'Mod3333'. Hypnotic techno on 'Eimeon' and 'Fall Into Wonder' flirts with broken beats on 'Installer' and climax with the floating percussions and anthemic pads of 'State Of Sorrow'.

Steven Rutter - Riddle Me Sane 2x12"

Steven Rutter aka B12 is one of techno’s most influential artists, famed for many releases on the iconic Warp Records including "Electro-Soma" that defined what is now the deep techno genre.

B12 was originally a duo before Steven Rutter took over the alias as a solo artist, but after a string of new releases on labels like Soma and Delsin, he decided to start producing under his own name.

Deciding it was time to look to the future with a new lease on life, Steven Rutter kept his sound the same, but shed the skin of B12 to mark a new point in his musical career.

Battling with personal demons, the B12 sound had become dark and introverted, and the Steven Rutter style keeps that same moody atmosphere, while adding upbeat rhythms and more jovial chord progressions without losing focus of the core sound that’s made his music so influential.

In addition to a numerous EP, “Riddle Me Sane” is the third album Steven Rutter has done under his own name, and it's in the timeless B12 style that's adored by his fans in all four corners of the world.

Cosmic melodies and sci-fi influenced textures with dystopian sound design, the thought provoking album paints pictures of alien landscapes, while its down tempo grooves also have the key elements needed for the dance floor.

Comfortingly familiar for those who love the classic B12 style, it also marks a distinct turning point in the sound that Steven Rutter has been looking to focus on.

Tracks like “Techno Prisoner” perfectly embody the style this release is aimed to purvey, but this masterpiece has been expertly programmed to play as a continuous piece of music rather than a selection of solo cuts.

Various - Molten Mirrors – A Decade of Livity Sound

One of Bristol’s foremost electronic labels toasts 10 years with a 19-strong family gathering of adventurous, contemporary club music.

Livity Sound has evolved considerably since 2011. Originally it was established as a vessel for new tracks from Peverelist, Kowton and Asusu – three Bristol-based artists who found common ground between their distinct styles in pursuit of a reduced, heavyweight strain of soundsystem techno. A run of hand-stamped 12”s and a three-way live show followed, while the Reverse sister label provided a conduit for emergent artists to enter the fray. Early breakthroughs from Hodge, Batu, Bruce and Simo Cell pointed to the broader horizons Livity was heading towards – an expanding community of like-minded artists creating dancefloor misfits that somehow fit together.

First appearing with a compilation of remixes in 2014, Tess Redburn’s iconic artwork heralded a fresh new impetus for the label, and the music seemed to become more colourful in kind. While the founding principles of space, bass and fractured rhythms have largely abounded up to the present day, there’s been a progressively broader palette of sound employed. Technoid melodic shimmers, earthen percussion and found sounds have become as prominent as sub frequencies and cavernous dub echoes, delivered by a vivid and varied ensemble of producers.

Molten Mirrors captures the dynamic energy of Livity Sound at 10, with 19 artists from the label’s roster coming together to present an honest document of where the label is at in the present moment. No over-arching concepts, no hackneyed themes – true to Livity’s open-ended mode since 2011, it’s as much a declaration of community as a cross-section of experimental dance music in 2021. Trying to pin down the sonic styles is something of a fools errand – from the older guard to recent signings, what binds together this international, inter-generational span of artists is their lack of convention.

A case in point: Azu Tiwaline’s submerged and subdued rhythmic incantations sit between Bakongo (aka Roska)’s raw and angular drum pressure and Al Wootton’s needlepoint, swinging dub tech variations. Nothing is totally placeable, and yet everything meets that ill-defined Livity Sound ethos, which stretches back to the earliest 12”s.

Club music continues to mutate and break new ground with each passing year, and as a faithful document of one microcosm within an ever-expanding music culture, Molten Mirrors reflects the multifaceted, technicolour energy of the here and now while celebrating the possibilities of an open, unpredictable future.

Buried Secrets - Of Lost Things EP

Repress

Masked Techno assassin Buried Secrets returns for his 2nd EP with Soma with the "Of Lost Things EP". Rave infused, hard hitting, face pounding techno is standard from Buried Secrets and this latest release is nothing less than that. The EP feature two stellar remixes from two of techno's most exciting acts in Obscure Shape & SHDW and Inhalt Der Nacht. Both of whom stamp their own unique style on the originals.

Title track "Of Lost Things" opens the A-side in true Buried Secrets style as euphoric synths are balanced perfectly against driving, punishing kicks and sub. Obscure Shape & SHDW turn their production prowess to "Of Lost Things" with a straightforward and direct Tool Mix of the original. Harnessing the power of the synth hook and warping it to their will. On the flip, "Affliction Of The Absent" renders more high octane techno. More minimalistic throughout, the industrial vibes are still prominent with subtlety being the key. Inhalt Der Nacht turns in a more cinematic driven affair with his remix of "Affliction Of The Absent". A slow burner that utilises epic sound design showing 432hz fantastic and generally unheard, side to his productions.

Morphology - Twelve 2 LP (2x12")

For more than twelve years, Morphology have been re-writing the rules of electronics. Michael Diekmann and Matti Turunen have melted electro, IDM and techno into their own unique sound. To celebrate their achievements, FireScope has sifted through the impressive discography of this Finnish pairing to bring long out of print tracks back to life.

Twelve 2 brings together a decade’s worth of music released between 2009 and 2019, a dozen works that traverse genres and labels like Abstract Forms, AC Records, Analogical Force, Central Processing Unit, Cultivated Electronics, diametric., Inner Space Records and Vortex Traks. Spliced beats and bulging bass lines introduce the album with "Karma Flies.” Rhythmic patterns are condensed and stretched in “Inversion Layer” and “Amphidiscosa”, the latter’s aquatic undercurrents melting an organic touch with the coldness of the machine. Darker tones lurk, the long shadows cast by “Convince the Computer” spread to other tracks like “Nucleosynthesis.” Yet, despite these more sombre shades, pieces with a human element punctuate the album. The frenetic pace of “Fluid Dynamics,” with its playful melody, throbs with the pulse of a city while the ebbs and flows of the watery “Active Optics” explore an ever morphing and shifting sound. An imagined future is never far away in Morphology’s machinations. These other places are given sound in the frigid grooves of “Sentinel,” the primal beauty of “New Horizons” and the stark structures of “Landforms.”

Not only does this double LP gather rare tracks never heard together before, but also each piece has been lovingly remastered to breath new life into these wonderful works. Twelve 1 celebrates the music of Morphology in all its glory, two masters of modern electronic music who continue to re-define and re-design genres.

Interjector - Parashimmers EP

¡¡Limited to 100 copies!!

Working around an evolved techno structure, his sound is razor cut and intricate, yet remains very much designed for the dancefloor.

Recording and mangling found sound into layers of rhythm and texture, Interjector has achieved the bridge of deep sound design and audio manipulation with club facing headspace drivers. They sit balanced on a knife edge between the free abandonment of a club banger, and that of an introverted sound world. Absolutely these are going to roll steadfast into any darkened club floor, yet are backed with a level of detail and focus often tried but rarely achieved to such a standard.

Like all our music on Darkfloor Sound, we let it do the talking.

It was 2016 when we last saw the Venezuelan duo, better known as Fur Coat, drop their debut 'Interstellar' EP on

Watergate Records and now they finally return with their follow up, the 'Immersion' EP.

'Immersion' kicks off with an agile kick drum setting the stage for rapid fire percussion and an overwhelmingly satisfying ascending organ line that could be the trademark of any sci-fi film score. Add a few shudders of glimmering atmospherics and it's a trek into the cosmic realm of Techno where space and time cease to exist.

Flipping sides the duo dive deeper into the infinite expanse with 'Inner Circle' where lush textures canvas a mesmerizing groove and hypnotic spirals of gratifying repetitive sonics resulting in a fiercely energetic yet undeniably euphoric expedition under the club lights. Embracing the tools and mechanics that have made their sound unique and successful for so long,

Fur Coat seems to have delivered their most mature and polished EP to date with their 'Immersion' EP where stunning spacial details and a precise attention to detail have embodied the age old saying, 'less is more'. Fur Coat is back. Immerse yourself.

For his first solo record since 2015, Gramrcy reaches full rave potential on Hot Concept, the label of occasional remix partner, John Loveless. 'Gliding Again' is a trippy, shoegazing rush that could slide nicely into either the resurgent trance or tech-ouse revivals currently bubbling, while 'Humboldt' exerts pure pressure, connecting with his UK bass roots. Innellea - Distorted Youth EP

Rising star Innellea demonstrates his prowess with four diverse, powerful cuts. In a short time Innellea has made a significant impact.

His production is inventive and progressive, gracing dance floors with emotional depth, considered arrangement and pumping rhythms. His debut EP opens with ‘Confronted Reality’, which is driven by an
oscillating low end, complemented by an emotive melody and a huge riff - tinged with drama throughout.

Next up it’s the title track, a morose cut that utilises breakbeat-esque
rhythms, piano keys and warped vocals. On the flip The Loss Of Hope’ features beautifully composed, trance-esque layers drift over a driving rhythm - lifting spirits and invoking the Heaven within. Finally, ‘Irreversible’ takes us into the darkness, with spinetingling melodies and hard-hitting drums ...

Rico Casazza - Emptiness Form

Rico Casazza's sonic identity is like that of a city, one which has developed an undeniable self-ness as it hosts various movements and is rocked by various events, leaving a core self that is still open to change, but solidly, defiantly clear. These days the musical nomad focuses heavily on techno and electro, but he is more easily recognized through that previously mentioned, the humorously self-professed electronic emo; Casazza never fails to diffuse his work with a gloomily pulsating heart.

Rico's 4-tracker vinyl EP on Moving Pictures label will encompass all these genres and influences.

Rico Puestel - Obi Thine Xi: The Remixes

Yellow Vinyl

Following his late 2021 LP „Obi Thine Xi“, this extensive remix EP leads the last Rico Puestel album into its final conclusion, serving up substantial interpretations by Tom Wax, BOWMN and two further monikers from Rico Puestel himself! As if this wasn't enough, the highly anticipated, formerly unnamed and allegedly lost track „OTX“ is in on it too.

On the A-side, Tom Wax delivers his stronghold and contemporary Techno design of „ID“ while Rico Puestel hauls out the big analogue guns and „classical“ approach as „Modern Minimals Sound Research“ on the remix of „Voluptuous Antics Enter The Hemisphere“, reinterpreting his own work from another perspective.

Side AA brings you BOWMN with his forceful and psychedelic interpreation of „Modest“ before Rico Puestel comes in another time as „Tetzlaff“ and turns in the 80s-inspired earworm remix of „Thine“.

Last but not least, „OTX“ happens to be the concluding track of this record that people have been waiting and asking for since 2020 – finally delivered!

We continue our sonic adventure with Blovk, producer and sound designer from Madrid, he has refined his musical idea with his peculiar way of understanding techno and electronic music in general.
Releasing on labels such as Awry, Subosc, Postdynamic, Subsist, Doppt Zykkler, MainConcept… and his own imprint, Outside Noises.
In our XL series we want to showcase every corner of our artists’ sound spectrum. We are not just commited to raw and direct dancefloor weapons, we are also aiming the mind of the listener.
To make attemporal electronic music is one of our objectives and this record in particular deserves a place in the list of music to be played loud when all this nightmare finishes.
First cut on wax is Of sleep and tears, an emotional title that describes a dronney atmospheric introduction. Beatless, textured, full of resonant details and space wind.
Pouring Flesh brings the beat to the scene with a clear bass drum and a shuffled bassline setting the patch to martian synth noises and stereo details, all enclosed in an intelligent structure full of subtle twists and hypnosis. The thinking hand combines synthetic details with precise beats on a progressive arrangement.Elements come into action wisely, pulsating electronic grooves fighting with floaty elements make the recipe. Fluids above the skin open the B side in a darker mood. Heavy sub bass action and profound synthesizer lines setting the mood for what comes next.
Shedding machines acts as an ambient interlude in similar coordinates as the first cut in this mini LP.
Closing the release Fluent Gods, an electrified mental dance workout using a similar sound palette as the previous ones. Detailed and precise sound design ranging from sharp asymmetrical sequences, ethereal textures and profuse bass frequencies.

Veslemes

Apolithoma 2x12"

2x12inchINVINC30LP
Invisible, Inc.
23.06.2021

Veslemes (aka Felizol) makes his debut on Invisible Inc with this astonishing new album that comes hot on the heels of last year's ground-shaking I Know Where You Live Vangelis!.

With Apolithoma film director Yannis Veslemes takes us further into the dark crevices of his psyche.

The album's themes are inspired by the dystopian sci-fi of JG Ballard's The Drowned World and The Crystal World: both novels eerily prophetic in their dystopian visions of an irradiated Earth over which a bloated, blinding sun makes living as we know it bearable only within a few hours around dawn and dusk. Sea levels have risen and cities that are not wholly flooded are overgrown with emergent new flora adapting to this new and hostile environment.

In more remote locations, overgrown jungles and forests are exhibiting signs of a strange crystallisation: entire swathes of jungle petrified, calcified, crystalized, fauna included...and stories of missing explorers rumoured to themselves have crystalized!

An allegory for our times, for sure....but more importantly, the album is as adventurous musically as it is conceptually. Where on the surface we have stories themed around an external dystopian world, the music, like the rising floodwater, presents us with a lens through which to look at the internal world: on one hand a distorted prism into what lurks beneath, yet at the same time a perfect reflection - a mirror into the psyche.

At times dark, at times playful, unreservedly psychedelic, the album's wildly different musical styles all capture an atmosphere that is as profound and mystical as it is unique. It's clear too that Veslemes' background in film and OST production has a strong influence making the whole album seem like an imaginary soundtrack to a film that never was. Several of the pieces are strongly reminiscent of the early works of Barry Adamson...but where these faux soundtracks were solely dark and brooding (in particular the classic Moss Side Story) Apolithoma adds mystique, profundity and light which balances the music perfectly.

Featuring an assortment of guest musicians on saxophone, clarinet, vibraphones, oboe, guitars and other instruments not often heard in partnership with electronic music, the resulting collection of songs is up there with the best of Invisible Inc.

Matasism - Can You Feel My Soul LP

A warm welcome to Italian-American producer Matasism, who debuts on BPitch with his four-track EP Can You Feel My Soul. Matasism launched his own label Ma¨ta¨sism in 2017, releasing exclusively via the platform until very recently. He lands on BPitch with an EP that channels the essence of freedom and liberty found in the rave. It’s a compelling EP that blends trance, techno and acid influences into a memory evoking collection of music.

The remake of ‘Can You Feel My Soul’ kicks things off, firing on all cylinders with a hypnotic riff and hea- vyweight kicks. More layers are added to increase the depth and energy, leading into a mesmerising break- down. Meanwhile, the following original mix has a grizzly bassline spliced with hard-hitting beats. On the flip ‘Age Of Fantasy’ opens up with a dramatic intro leading into a powerful, enchanting main riff. Vintage sounds with a contemporary flavour. Next up is ‘Space Invaders’, a high-octane cut that utilises a trance-esque oscillating low end to captivate the listener. Get ready for an explosion of energy after the bre- akdown, transcendent.

Indian Wells - No One Really Listens To Oscillators LP

Introspective, engaging, electronic music exploring the concept of “unfinished” in relation to oneself, art, architecture and surroundings; ‘No One Really Listens To Oscillators’ is the gloriously titled new album by Indian Wells, the project of producer Pietro Iannuzzi from southern Italy. Announced today, along with new single ‘Calabrian Woods’, the nine track album is set for release on 15th July 2022 on Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint.

The album’s initial conceptual input came from an article in The New York Times referencing a new conceptual architectural style. The term “Incompiuto” (Unfinished) which was theorized by Alterazioni Video & Fosbury Architecture and concerned unfinished works that reveal the inability of projects to make infrastructures useful and sustainable for the community.

“The head of this article was a photo of an escalator in the middle of nowhere in Calabria, where I live,” explains Pietro. “I knew this escalator very well and I immediately realized that my perception of this "reality" could be really different from people who have never lived in this area. It can be said that I grew up in the unfinished - between unfinished houses and other half-built works that are now an integral part of the landscape, without really noticing. In reality, our experience is influenced by everything that surrounds us and this context shapes us to make us live a distorted reality, which we very quickly get used to.”

“Before I started to create this album, I cleared my mind,” says Pietro. “I went back to when I fell in love with electronic music and listened to Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac, Warp artists like Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin, Border Community, William Basinski, Massive Attack. I felt my last album was unfinished, and realised something had to change in my music.”

Indian Wells’ last album, 2017’s warmly received ‘Where The World Ends’, was supported by an array of tastemaker press (“Soaring euphoria” Mixmag Top 50 Albums of 2017, “Tender, pulsing techno” Resident Advisor, “A standout cut in the realm of emotive techno” XLR8R, “Techno with an artful, emotive edge” Clash, “A refreshing vision of club music” Electronic Sound, "The album simply glows" A Closer Listen) and standout track ‘Cascades’ received plays across BBC Radio (Gideon Coe, Huw Stephens, Jamz Supernova, Pete Tong, Phil Taggart, Tom Ravenscroft).

Various - Pause for the Cause: London Rave Adverts 1991-1996, Vol. 2

Back in the early '90s, whenever the pirate radio MC announced "a pause for the cause", I usually pressed pause on my cassette recorder. That's something I would regret years later, when ad breaks had become cherished mementos of the hardcore rave era. Luckily, back in the day I often left the tape running while I went off to do something else. So a fair number of ad breaks got captured accidentally for my later delectation. Not nearly enough, though. So in recent years I started combing through the immense number of pirate radio sets archived on the internet. Sometimes the tracklists would note "ad break" or "ads", helping to narrow the search. But often I'd just stumble on a bunch in the middle of a pirate show preserved on YouTube or an oldskool blog. A few of my original unintended "saves" and latterday "finds" are included in this wonderful collection by audio archaeologist Luke Owen. It's the latest in his series of compilations of UK pirate radio advertisements, with this volume focusing on the audio equivalent of the rave flyer: MCs breathlessly hyping a club night or upcoming rave, listing the lineup of deejays and MCs, boasting about hi-tech attractions like lasers and projections, mentioning prices and nearest landmarks to the venue, and occasionally promising "clean toilets" and "tight but polite security" ("sensible security" is another variation). Some of these ads are etched into my brain as lividly as the classic hardcore and jungle tunes of that time. (Most rave ads incorporate snippets of current music, of course – big anthems and obscure "mystery tracks" alike). Names of deejays ring out like mythological figures: who were Shaggy & Breeze, Kieran the Herbalist, Tinrib, Food Junkie? Putting on my serious hat for a moment, I think these ads are valuable deposits of sociocultural data, capturing the hustling energy of an underground micro-economy in which promoters, deejays and MCs competed for a larger slice of the dancing audience. But mostly, they are hard hits of pure nostalgic pleasure, amusing and thrilling through their blend of period charm, endearing amateurism, and contagiously manic excitement about rave music's forward-surge into an unknown future. The best of these ads give me a memory-rush to rival the top tunes and MC routines of the era.

Rebecca Goldberg - Trois Cent Trois EP

Rebecca Goldberg wrote TROIS CENT TROIS as an auditory postcard with musings from a late-summer road trip across France in 2021. On TCT Rebecca sonically guides us through the emotion of new adventure and the risks involved during a time of global uncertainty.

The first single, TROIT CENT TROIS, is a play of the French way to say Detroit and 3-0-3. Like Rebecca's previous work on Detroit Underground, acid is the EP’s predominant sound. The next stop, A2 track Le Détroits, is an acidic metaphor for the celestial beauty of the French countryside. Face A ends with The Perception of our Power, a Ghettotech cut that's full of Detroit-funky/beloved-in-Paris bounce.

Flip to Face B and bathe in the acid arpeggiation of the lead-off track Paradoxe du Plaisir (Pleasure Paradox in English), referring to the practical difficulties encountered in the pursuit of pleasure. The destination B2 track, What It Means (To Start Over in a Ruined World), waxes poetic on the explanation with throbbing percussion and call and response rhythms.

According to Viktor Frankl in Man's Search for Meaning, "Happiness cannot be pursued; it must ensued and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself."

TROIS CENT TROIS was featured on Bandcamp’s “New and Notable” releases list and was highly regarded in The Wire magazine.

For the vinyl release, Rebecca designed a minimal black and white package with slanted black text reminiscent of France's directional local road signs. The vinyl is limited to 303 copies and each one is hand-signed and numbered.

After collaborating with Subjected for his debut release in 2018, Andrejko now lands on the German's other acclaimed hard techno label, Vault Series, with a thrilling three track solo EP.

Andrejko is part of the Berlin new breed becoming renowned for his dark and uncompromising closing sets at the legendary Stattbad on Sunday mornings and has gone on to get bookings further afield as a result. Both as a DJ and producer, his stripped down, hyperdriven sound is perfectly abrasive yet comes with exactly the right amount of detail to make it irresistibly hypnotic and escapist.

Opener 'Eating' is bleak, futurist, Terminator techno with unrelenting drums that hit hard each and every time. Subtle rising synths add to the tension while rugged loops keep you locked to the floor. The excellent 'With' is less harsh and hard but just as perfectly distilled, with warmer rubber kicks rolling forwards at a real pace as eerie synth motifs survey a dystopian urban landscape. Closer 'Knives' shows another side again to this innovative artist as it pairs sci-fi pads with supple techno rhythms. Taking you on a trip to the outer edges of our galaxy, it has a rising sense of tension that is utterly enthralling.

Butch returns on his OTHERSIDE imprint this February alongside C.Vogt on the deep and hypnotic Parallels.

Inspired by Call Super, the EP also features two contrasting remixes from Delaphine label boss S.A.M. and the unmistakable Skudge.

Parallels opens the EP, a typically mind-bending rhythm develops with intricate layers of percussion, as a meditative and eerie melody ebbs and flows, leaving you both hooked and perplexed in equal measure. Mandar member S.A.M. turns his hand to the first remix, morphing the original into his style with dreamy, glowing synth that washes over an acid-tinged bassline. Finally, Skudge up the ante, crafting a loopy techno remix that features driving hi-hats and their trademark curious stabs that nod to the warehouse and create a smouldering atmosphere.

Dynamic wizard Butch heads up his vinyl imprint OTHERSIDE, a label he has badged as an outlet for “a soaring heart and a flying mind”. The label has steadily released mesmerising contributions so far from Marcel Janovsky and Bartaub alongside collaborations from Butch himself with Hohberg and a special partnership with minimal legend Ricardo Villalobos entitled ButRic. 2020 will see another exciting ButRic release as Butch and OTHERSIDE continue to both intrigue and amaze audiences with outstanding music and select residencies.

The S.A.M. sound has been characterised as cosmic, trippy, psychedelic and groovy. Managing three record labels: Delaphine, Dahlia and Oscillat Music, he releases his productions as well as music from artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Mandar, Butch and Matthew Dekay. The Skudge universe has come a long way from the anonymous beginnings to world-wide recognition through Skudge Records, Skudge Presents and Skudge White labels. Starting as a duo in 2009, the project is now a solo effort and continues with high-quality outputs and live sets.
