A third Punctuality enters the chat; its latest member Maara proclaiming Drama On for Spray’s ever-evolving label. The Montreal maverick cues up a psy-eyed sesh for the ages, 5 wily thumpers shaded sapphic for those enthralled by the mischievous dance.

Since 2021, Maara has operated on an ‘all pills, no frills’ basis. Her prolific run of EPs for the likes of Kalahari Oyster Cult, Step Ball Chain and Radiant Records has cemented her rightful place within the club pantheon of the prog and divine. Spray and his Punctuality cohort reside there also, teasing clubland salvation for those who dare. Maara giddily joins for the ride, offering a gift in the name of Drama On; an EP of direct dancefloor transmissions that map out kinetic paths to sordid euphoria.

The curtains rise as What U Do 2 Me skips, gallops and jumps across theatrical plains, breaking for a titular reflection before reuniting with its ravey chaos. Drama On swings sharper, riding a sleazy donk through a dimly lit groove of pulsating vulgarity. An outright sassier affair celebrates Sigmund Freud’s Big Day Out; an unconscious slip of the hard house tongue that feeds an otherwise techno-driven delirium with wry glee. Give Me Ecstasy eases the tempo while raising the temperature, commanding your gaze with a noxious roller that seductively writhes in sexed-up delight. The house lights beckon, and Not My Web, Not My Problem she retorts with an unforgiving groove thrusting its charged-up rump through a cauldron of salacious murmurs and groans.

It’s Maara’s world, and we’re all just dancing in it.

Die Montrealer Ikone Tiga kehrt mit seinem vierten Album HOTLIFE zurück und läutet damit eine neue Ära in seiner unsterblichen Techno-Reise hin zu absoluter geistiger Freiheit ein. Mit Beiträgen von Boys Noize, Matthew Dear, Fcukers, MRD, Gesloten Cirkel, Paranoid London, Maara und den neuen Studio-Experten seiner Heimatstadt Priori und Patrick Holland befindet sich Tiga mit HOTLIFE auf dem Gipfel des Musikbergs und versetzt die Zuhörer mit ansteckenden Dancefloor-Klängen in Begeisterung: ,Wenn ich die Catharsis Machine einschalte", sagt der berühmte Sänger und Produzent, ,spielt es keine Rolle, ob Sie reich oder arm sind, denn Sie werden ein freier Mensch sein ..." Die Rückeroberung seines Platzes an der Spitze des himmlischen Firmaments der zeitgenössischen Tanzmusik verlief nicht ohne eine fesselnde und nachvollziehbare Erzählung. Nach einem mühsamen Kampf mit einer neurologischen Erkrankung, die er entdeckte und ,Vibe Fog" nannte, befand sich Tiga an einem Scheideweg: ,An einem bestimmten Punkt hieß es entweder, das Exoskelett zu kaufen und meine Virgin Megastore-Aktien zu verkaufen, oder Tiga City von Grund auf neu aufzubauen, Stein für Stein, Wasserspeier für Wasserspeier." Das Ergebnis ist ein Tiga, den langjährige Tiga-Beobachter als ,engelsgleich" und ,furchteinflößend" bezeichnen, was zu einem Album geführt hat, das die destillierte Essenz eines Trendsetters einfängt, der über alle menschlichen Grenzen hinausgeht. ,Meine Ja/Nein-Reaktionszeit bei künstlerischen Entscheidungen ist außergewöhnlich", fügt Tiga hinzu. ,Wir haben jede Sekunde, die wir bei jeder kreativen Entscheidung eingespart haben, in die Laufzeit des Albums reinvestiert. 12 Songs. 60 Minuten. Right on time once again, the fifth outing on Punctuality welcomes Irish producer Drua to the fore. In typical Punctuality fashion the release draws influence from the canon of golden era late 90s and early 2000s dance music with an entirely modern production aesthetic, engineered for big rigs and sweaty dancefloors alike.

Nightfire is a fully realised vision of Drua’s sound that could best be described as contemporary hard house. All four tracks are laden with punchy, rolling basslines, detailed low end, vibrant stabs, sultry vocals, undulating rhythms and sprinklings of quintessential club sparks.

The nouveau handbag styling of UP kicks off the EP. Stuttered vocals, M1 organs and solid grooves are fused together with clever sampling that is sure to make this one a hit for the festival season of s/s ‘25, as early support from the likes of Roza Terenzi, Confidence Man, Spray, Sally C and Maara would indicate.

Job 2.3 has all the elements of a Punctuality anthem and maintains the big tune mood of the EP: skippy bass notes, low end wubs, subtle breaks, catchy vocal hooks and precise drums nail the brief in executing this prog-hard-house hybrid heater.

On the flip, Nightfire nods to classic leaning deep house through a peak time lens. Introspective pads make way for pulsing subs, sensuous vocal chops and hip catching basslines. This is one of those tracks that can shift the arc of a DJ set to the next level. Big tip here.

The EP concludes with Arch In Ur Back which has all the elements to work a dancefloor: multiple grooves, rolling breakbeats, party starting vocals and the modern sound design that punctuality has gained worldwide notoriety for. An all killer no filler EP in the form of four well rounded club tools from Drua that are sure to be mainstays for discerning DJs and Punctualists

Pleasure Planet is back in orbit, summoning some of their favorite producers to reimagine the two lead singles from their self-titled debut album.

Earth Trax transforms Go With Madness into a euphoric peak time corker. Full of smiles and surprises, it’s a pure endorphin rush, and masterclass in making an irresistible dance track.

Maara goes with madness, cranking up the bpm, and conjuring a version that is deep into prog territory. A propulsive proto trance journey through winds and dungeon echoes.

On her version of Alien, Roza Terenzi casts a hypnotic spell of ghostly melodies and vocal hooks. Her deeper interpretation takes listeners on a breakbeat mission through sizzling electronics and emotive sub bass.

Alex Kassian’s Sphinx Gate Mix of Alien closes it out by slowing things down and transporting Alien into nostalgic territory with melodic arps and peak Haceinda-era breaks and bass. If you listen to his emotional remix carefully enough, you may hear a vocal response from Kim Ann’s partner Cora in its final fleeting moments.

As they landed from their extended hovering adventure – a journey en(capsule)ated by twists, turns and various chops – the Fast At Work crew found themselves drawn to the idea of a new, singular sonic flow. Always on a noble mission for a future-forward vision of higher-deeper tempos, the crew realized that often the most meaningful iterations of their gospel can be found in the most inconspicuous places – “not even noticed,” some might say. Within these subtle crevices, a rising duo emerged to carry this torch (disc) forward into new, uncharted realms. Taking inspiration from “Eteus,” the god of light and knowledge, this duo expertly crafted four original offerings, all with a distinctive, minimalistic fusion of breaky, hopeful expansion. While the title contribution echoes a sermon of oozing bassline flows and siren signals, “Drip Advise” equally mesmerizes with its spiraling melodies and strong percussive foundation. On the disc’s flip, the anointed duo broadened and refined their journey via the acid-tinged bedrock of “Creamavity,” while the final offering “Anxious” ironically synthesized the full pilgrimage into a polished musical (and vocal) definition – “release yourself, into the unknown.” With the hope of sharing this glistening gospel far and wide, the mystical duo prescribed a set of two reshapes from enlightened phonic gurus in their own right. While Wisdom Teeth’s K-Lone opted for the always reliable essence of strong foundational grooves and deep airy textures, Maara (founder of the newly formed Ancient Records) crafted an oceanic odyssey – over 10 minutes of timeworn atmospherics and sensorial sensibilities.

HARMONY020— One year from Ayū’s debut on Harmony—Neon Affair, four artists closely connected to the release were invited to remix their favorite track from the record. The result is a new remix EP featuring a dancefloor-driven A-side, crafted for peak-time energy, and a B-side dedicated to closing sets and trippy storytelling.

Side A opens with Maara’s remix of “Space to Come”- a progressive, sexy spacey journey with muttered vocals and a blissed-out groove, blended with her iconic sound. Keeping up with the dance-floor energy, Spray delivers a dreamy yet bubbly take on “Point Nemo.” Spray’s take showcases his distinctive musical patterns and fuzzy textures.

The B-side remix by Harmony’s Alfred Czital and Jeku sends the record to the late hours of the party. Jeku’s version of “Neon Affair” brings driving drumlines and euphoric prog beats, layered with hypnotic, trippy touches – sweet, yet dirty. Alfred Czital closes the record with his Dream Mix of “Space to Come,” an exciting and misty journey through sound – playful, metaphysical, and the perfect closing track for extended parties.

Priori’s hit EP Pareidolia gets a well deserved remix treatment. The relation between Priori and Midgar started early 2023 with the release of his Pareidolia EP, where a remix for Keplrr followed quickly the year after. Now, early 2025, a group of close friends and admired artists were invited to rework the Pareidolia’s originals. Midgar affiliate Forest Drive West uses the opportunity to present not one but two remixes.
Presenting one half-time 85 bpm twist of Hazard and another slowpaced murky techno groover. Originally from Montreal, Maara forms the Canadian connection and she turns Memory Palace into a beautiful bouncy dub-techno floater. Sound experimentalist Notte Infinita takes his turn on Pareidolia’s title track and creates some magnificent eyesclosed drum & bass hypnotism. At last, Amsterdam’s upsammy brings back the light with her iconic playful approach. She flips the steady groove of Glass Shards into a jumpy interplay of rhythms and joy

Bring back my Bass Butches! They’re bossy & they mean business. Rag-tag rhythm riders Maara and Roza Terenzi come together for a freaky friday sound swap; trading auditory secrets only a mixologist would know to conjure up a 2 track tek-trailblazer. Not for the faint hearted deejay, the record flaunts their distinct signature sounds as they reincarnate the status quo of experimental club music one snare at a time.

Percussively penetrating the core ethics of composition, the A side flirts and squirts all over a rhythm so raucous, the bass battens down the hatches. Stir the pot, rock the boat, roll the dice and ride the bass, surrender to the unruly structure as the groove gets full custody.

The bareback B side breaks rules and regulations; leading you to high-tech temptation, fast and furious with an explosive temper that can’t be tamed.

Tickling the rim of electro and bass yet ditching the doctrine, Loose Lips Sink Ships is a take-no-prisoners secret source of dancefloor dopamine, the sleek modern rendition of a ritualistic beatdown destined to weave motifs together and breed atmosphere.

It takes 2 to techno, but these are the number 1 drum degenerates of the future wave party starters.

Marjaa: The Battle of the Hotels” is a concept album born of the idea of merging singer & songwriter Mayssa Jallad’s two vocations: music and urban research/architectural history. Written in collaboration with producer Fadi Tabbal, the music builds upon Tabbal’s spatial approach to sound and Jallad’s research on Beirut’s Hotel District. The album is a reference to Jallad’s Historic Preservation master's thesis, in which she detailed the history of the “Battle of the Hotels”, a 5-months battle that took place in Beirut at the beginning of the Lebanese Civil War, from October 22nd, 1975 to March 29th, 1976. Jallad saw architecture as a main protagonist of the battle, as she discovered it was the first high rise urban battle in the world. The close of the battle resulted in the 15-year Green Line, an urban rift which split Beirut into “East and West”, restricting movement and communication and creating a violent divide that still resonates today. The album comprises two parts. Part A: Dahaliz, is a stroll in the city, where Jallad tries (and fails) to follow an old map. Musician Youmna Saba is a companion in this journey of remembering the once winding corridors (“Dahaliz”) of the city, destroyed by new developments since the 1960s. Empty skyscrapers propel her onto a past filled with the violence of snipers, and a present filled with the glamorous injustice of empty luxury real estate endorsed by powerful warlords-turned-politicians. In Part B: Maaraka, Jallad inhabits the building of the Battle of the Hotels, as its events unfold. She calls the fighting militias the Blues and Reds, respectively the Lebanese Front (Christian Nationalists) and the Lebanese National Movement (Pro-Palestinian leftists), leveling the playing field, and drawing a map of the battle through songwriting. Sary Moussa produces the conclusion of the battle in “Holiday Inn (March 21 to 29)”, which ends with the ultimate severance of the city of Beirut. The music caters to post-war youth who have never been taught this difficult history. Once we consider the “Battle of the Hotels” as our common heritage, it provides an opportunity to teach the value of civil peace. It is also a call to protest for the renewal, rather than the recycling of the political class that has once destroyed the country and holds us, to this day, hostage of its violence. Six years, more than fifty releases, countless artists and multiple subsidiaries; the Oyster Cult’s reach extends far beyond what sceptics once thought possible. It’s only fitting, then, that we gather some of our finest under the Kalahari banner in celebration.

The anniversary release is upon us. Six whole years since Jacy helped inaugurate the label with a spin on Midwestern house, OYSTER40 signals a landmark occasion. 18 tracks, quadruple vinyl boxset action, and in true Oyster Cult tradition, it comes bearing pearls.

Dancefloor squarely in focus, the Cult assembles on a compilation spanning alumni and new inductees alike. It’s an assemblage of the fractal, explorative and ritual-ready; at once a focused distillation of the Kalahari sound and celebration of its many acolytes. Big on atmosphere, heavy on groove, we delve deeply into the musical DNA shared by all who grace the label.

Tough, direct cuts (Sansibar, Roza Terenzi, Big Zen, Maara & Priori) to the pristine and widescreen (S.O.N.S., Volodymyr Gnatenko, Adam Pits), this is all quintessentially Kalahari. Elsewhere though, the likes of D. Tiffany and SW. journey further into realms of abstraction: the former opting for hi-tech, dreamstate IDM, while the SUED co-founder dissolves a house template into dubby introspection.

Calling upon contemporary talents for the most part, there are also exceptions. Raymond Castoldi - the one-time house producer best known as Madison Square Garden’s music director - returns with an unreleased nugget from ’91, while an ‘Aliens’-sampling track from Detroit-indebted techno outfit Syzygy gets the reissue treatment.

Bizarro Records returns to its Australian roots for three functional tracks from Eora/Sydney local Eastern Distributor, alongside a remix from Montreal prodigy Maara. Drawing heavily from the psychedelic influences of our country’s bush doof scene, ‘State of Equilibrium’ alludes to trance and techno relics of the past whilst accelerating into a hybrid psy-tek sound.

‘Affinity’ delivers a functional, peak-time psychedelic motion, ebbing and flowing into dark resonant euphoria. ‘Balance’ sticks closer to the modern Australian scene; an upbeat, bubbling tech-house influenced track, presenting a futuristic psy take on a sound marking contemporary dance floors. The third track ‘Endorphin’ is a bouncing techno tool, infinitely ascending from powerful low-frequency buzz to progged-out elation. The EP comes to a close with a taste of Maara’s signature sound - characterizing her take on ‘Endorphin’ with an irresistible dancefloor oriented bassline, filled with the angelic pads that define her discography.

Can you hear the hoofs? For their first Various Artist Compilation, Espace Noir is proud to bring to its stables some of the most daring riders in the scene. All the way from Canada come Unknown Mobile and Maara. They join Melbourne (Naarm) favourites Mabel and Reflex Blue. The result? Stomping 303 lines, spaced out vocals and punching breaks that might just knock you off your saddle. Giddy up cowboy, these equine beauties are gonna take you for a real gallop.

Salt Mines welcomes newcomer Zara to the family with an EP inspired by the sounds, colours and textures of festivals in the Australian bush. With this record Zara debuts a musical style that is dened in its identity yet dees categorisation.
