A Complex Web - The Story of THE SHINING PATH...began in 1982 when Peter Miller (aka Dr. William S Ray - vocals, tapes, guitar) met Andrew Millar (aka Maurice Spectograph the Nose-y Pieman - program execution) in Gold Coast, Australia. While sharing a similar taste in music, they decided to form a band, so DIVE POSITION was born. Equipped with a Korg synthesiser and Tascam 4-track recorder, they 'wanted to have the 'sound' of Kraftwerk, the groove of Can, and the 'menace' of Throbbing Gristle', ending up with 'a cross of Suicide and the Residents', as Peter recalls. In a local record shop they met Stig Andre Leonardson (aka Vincent Blackshadow), who joined the duo on percussion and drum machine programming. Their motto was 'Now is Then'. DIVE POSITION then became THE FATAL CHARM around 1984, and THE FATAL CHARM became THE SHINING PATH who eventually released their only album 'Basic Training Manual' in an edition of only 250 copies, most probably in 1986. The band then started to drift apart, and shortly after Andrew sadly passed away - this re-issue of 'Basic Training Manual' and the upcoming compilation 'Now is Then' comprised of previously unreleased DIVE POSITION and THE SHINING PATH material is dedicated to his memory.

I-G hooked up with a new musical partner, the lovely and talented Pasiphae from Greece and together they deliver four very well-crafted tracks of contemporary machine-driven techno romance, with the ecstatic title track 'Made of glass' being the floor burner that will unite dancefloors worldwide. With the 'Made Of Glass' ep Bio Rhythm proudly presents the absolute creme de la creme of the current Dutch West Coast 'noir' scene.

Labelhead Invite returns to his own imprint with a stunning 4-track solo EP.The EP is opened by a 'Determine', a somewhat deeper track with a very simple, yet powerful sequence that is supported by a very powerful kickdrum. 'Measure' continues the vibe set on the A-side, with it's very deep low-end and hypnotising synth-sequence topped with an aggressive ride. 'Refund' - the first track on the B-side - is a very stripped down, four-to-the-floor track that feels like the type of tool-tracks you'd find on EP's back in the days. The EP is concluded by the wonderful ambiance 'Excitation' sets which is a great track for starting or ending a set. And that's it, right

Well not quite.

If one would search for Fluxion - Vibrant Forms III, Discogs would come up empty and Google would treat it as a misspelling. Until now.
Konstantinos Soublis, aka Fluxion, and Subwax Bcn have decided to pick up the banner and release Vibrant Forms III as a CD as well as four individual 12" records under 2016. It contains everything you could hope for and more: The massive, booming basses, the clicks and hisses, the atmospheric thunderstorms, the opium smoke-scented streaks of reverb and dub echoes. The warmth. Yes, above all else the warmth: Sometimes moist and dripping as in Safe Harbour, sometimes blisteringly dry as in Variant. It's no easy task, giving cold, dead machines warm breaths. And no-one quite does it like Fluxion.

The Reissue of Vibrant Forms II was an act of cultural preservation. It reminded us about the legacy of the Basic Channel label family, in which Chain Reaction played an important part. Without this legacy, the contemporary body of electronic music would look different and make very different sounds. With the Release of Vibrant Forms III, Subwax Bcn takes it one step further. Fluxion's Vibrant Forms III album remind us of the timelessness of truly great music, never mind the genre.

American experimental musican Shane English continues in a long tradition of outsider electronics as he's been humbly prolific in his output though the years involving himself in numerous recording projects.Collaborating with Jonah Lange in their group Corporate Park as well as an ongoing collab with Beau Wanzer (seeing a release last year under the CP/BW name), English now commits his second full length solo offering to vinyl in the form of the General Dimensions lp.Sparse machine driven electronics dominate the recording providing a back drop for the occasional pulsating rhythm, metallic clank or floating obscured vocal. While it is a dark and sparse affair there is a quiet downtrodden beauty throughout giving the recording a sense of uncertain serenity in an almost shoegazey way. Highly recommended for those into early electronics.

Original release from 1977 "Reissues of a legendary artist, pioneer of the French electronic music. "The French proto-electro is making a come-back as we've seen it with the success of both Cosmic Machine compilations. "Their 7 Onyx"sold over 3 million copies worldwide. "Space Art is behind the massive hits: Onyx", Give Me Love", Love In C Minor"and more "One of half of the band, Dominique Perrier, is one of legend Jean-Michel Jarre's closest collaborators. Recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all Jarre's albums from Rendez-Vous"(1986)to Oxygène 7-1 (1997) and still tours with him around the world. Space Art also toured with him in China in the early '80s. "Alongside Jean-Michel Jarre and Cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

For its fifth release, Amsterdam's Taped Artifact offers up a various artists EP that features four tracks including one from the boss, Kevin Arnemann, as well as Hiver, Elmer and Physical Therapy. It is a moody and atmospheric deep techno offering that fits in with the label's ever more singular aesthetic. Up first is Physical Therapy, a producer who since 2012 has put out some fine EPs and LPs on labels like 1080p, Unknown to the Unknown and Liberation Technologies. It is a roomy affair with corrugated mid tempo drums down low and haunting pads up top. Building in intensity with some icy hi hats, it ends up as a ghoulish number that adds real theatre to the floor. Next up is Elmer, key part of Brussels' Bepotel Records crew. Melting techno, wave and dub into raw and expressive new forms, this new cut 'Simple Models' makes great use of analog machinery. Again deep and horizonless, a rippling lead synth line plays off an industrial bass riff as paddy drums roll on below. It's humid and heady stuff, to be sure. Then comes the boss who offers a more dubbed out and bumpy dub­techno track with expansive chords rolling off into the distance and light and airy hi hats dancing in the mid ground. It's one to get floors moving before the Hiver duo of Giuseppe Albrizio and Sergio Caio from labels like Curle and Vidab close things out with the dusty old breakbeats and woozy spaced out synths of 'Intersect.' This is a subtle but impactful EP full of sensitive underground sounds that pack a real punch. Taken from the acclaimed "Migration" album, "Kypoli" sees Poirier sharing production duties with fellow Ninja Tune alumni and hot property Machinedrum. Taking vocal samples from Aleisha Lee (co-writer of Tinie Tempah's recent smash "Girls Like" amongst others) and twisting, chopping and manipulating them into a completely new composition, the pair create a brooding post-dancehall/soul fusion, gaining the perfect balance between ethereal beauty and heavy dancefloor menace. Bukem-esque pads and deep dub elegance give way to pounding kicks and floating harmonies, relentlessly building a wall of sonic beauty.

Remixes come from France's dub mad scientist Moresounds, who ups the jungle influence with a classic Reese-style bassline and signature rolling snare chops, whilst retaining the balance between dark & light and Montreal-based newcomer Thomas White who flips the vibe completely for a slo-mo Soulection style builder.

Veteran dub techno producer Brendon Moeller dons his Echologist alias on 'The Flame' EP.

The title track is the most experimental, opening the record with tripped-out machine melodies and off-beat drum hits. 'Kavorka' follows in the same vein but is more obviously dancefloor-focused. Its arps build up the tension until a thick 303 line takes things to tipping point and eventually release. On the B-side, 'Dirtbox' is a fast-paced, Echologist take on warehouse techno and a deep, atmospheric cut 'Candy Mountain' finishes the record in Moeller's signature style.

The Turbo debut from Gilmer Galibard is a collection of four dark, visceral techno floor-destroyers from a young Canary Islands-based producer about whom we know relatively little. It also marks the label's first release to feature a swear in the title, offering a foreboding glimpse of the paranoid machine-driven warehouse terror contained within. "By now you will have heard the demo in its entirety and are still dancing whether you want to or not. For my purposes, you will use the Search Engine Optimization terms "Dark," "Visceral," "Techno," "Floor-Destroyers" and "Paranoid Machine-Driven Warehouse Terror" to ensure that it finds its way to the 83 people who need to hear the release through this specific channel. You may tell people I am 26 years old and from the Canary Islands; both facts are true and sound comforting enough but as you now know this does not matter. Print this in its entirety and leave the release title unchanged. I would say I've said too much but that is impossible because as you've come to understand all of this has already happened.

Sebastian Maschat a.k.a. Stoneage Kid has been around in the House Music scene for about 15 years now: Cult Stoner House with - Extra Produktionen', drummer in Erlend Oye's - Whitest Boy Alive' and numerous other projects.- Stoneage Kid' is an hardware / MPC based act, with own vocals and a very distinctive Electro Pop aesthetique. His first EP on - Smile for a while' creally sounds like Captain Comatose meeting Isolée in some purple haze panic room...You'll find melancholic Drum machine jams, some serious synths, lotsa vocoder and a lot of bassline-bumping. Phillip Lauer delivers a refreshingly cheesy remix with God singing solo and the Holy Ghost on drums - just as expected.- Hang On To A Dream' is quite a special tune, written and sung by German Indie veteran Otto von Bismarck. This Remix version is really something for intimate connoiseurs of both Pop and House Music.

Midgar is finally reaching the 10th release with MDG008, a rich ensemble of live jams, adapted to the vinyl format by ambient specialist Shaded Explorer. The record opens with the bleeping saucer Emerald Weapon, activating hyperspace mode as the sidereal ambiances take over in the middle of the track. Skyward follows up with thunderous kicks, adding consistency to the groove but keeping focus on windy atmospheres. The slow-builder Shaded Gems reset the pace on the Bside, where the italian artist fully express the solemnity of the machines. Underwood ends the record with natural textures: a sonic representation of Mother Nature waking up the forests using bright pads and perpetual chirping. Uncanny vibes in Naive's Reality, track which is perfectly resuming Shaded Explorer signature: evocative melodies and organic percussions. This last track will be released digitally with the record, in free download.

The second imprint of Another Earth is upon us and this time it's all about proper Detroit techno combined with distorted left wing machine house. The label combines 2 acts together in a Split EP series which compliment each others sound. For the A-side the highly talented producer, Plural (Separate Skills, Metroplex, U.S.), created 2 essential Detroit techno tracks. The A1 is a warm uplifting peak time bomb and the A2 has a darker vibe concentrated on the groove. The B-side hosts 2 tracks from the intriguing mind of Hakim Murphy (Machine Dreams, Chicago, U.S.). The B1 is a heavy distorted peak time house banger while the B2 is quite the opposite, deep and obscure.

Having already issued a few cassettes via his own Harsh Riddims label as well as CGI's sister label DKA Records, Ryan Parks brings his Fit Of Body project to CGI for his debut 12" release. Here we are treated with two previously unreleased original cuts as well as Galcher Lustwerk and TWINS reworks of a pair of older tunes.


Fit Of Body's sound is unique among the current crop of bedroom dance producers in that it can ignite a dancefloor while still feeling deeply personal. This mood is enhanced by the way Parks colours his tracks with his own voice. His approach to adding live instrumentation to the arrangements lends a handmade delicacy otherwise lacking in so much hyper-quantized machine music. These are tracks that will feel at home in the DJ booth, your living room and your bedroom.

Following the excellently received Dilation LP on FILM, the duo return to the Berlin based imprint for a remix package featuring FaltyDL, Grand Optimist, Djrum & Portable Sunsets. Erol Sarp & Lukas Vogel's ingenious use of the grand piano has won them many plaudits over the years. Working solely with the sounds of the grand piano and a set of 20 self-built hammers hitting the piano on different parts - filtered & warped in an extraordinary fashion, the pair craft dense, rousing music - kept fresh & current with nods to IDM, ambient & techno. As such, the original recordings are fertile ground for remix opportunities, and the FILM label call on a who's who of left-field electronica to reimagine the work. NYC native FaltyDL takes on Newtons Cradle, flipping the original and turning in a stepping, psychedelic slice of half time proto-Footwork while both Phillip Otterbach, operating under his Grand Optimist alias, and 2nd Drop's Djrum offer tripping, ambient reinterpretations. 1080p's Portable Sunsets reimagines key LP cut Neon as fuzzy beach house jam, reseting the original & eeking out a wholly different energy with driven drum machine hits & a soothing vox line.

Diseño Corbusier is the avant-garde electronics duo of Javier G. Marín and Ani Zinc, formed in Granada, Spain 1981. Like Sheffield's relation to London during the punk explosion in the UK, Granada developed an experimental music scene 400 kilometers south of Madrid. As a child, there were no records in Ani's house, so she grew up listening to the radio and was hypnotized after hearing 'Remember Love', by Yoko Ono. While attending university in Granada she responded to an ad in a music magazine by Javier, If you're into bands like Cabaret Voltaire or Flying Lizards, call me'.

The duo recorded their debut album Stadia' in 1982 and self-released as a limited edition cassette on their label Auxilio de Cientos. They drew influences from contemporaries like SPK, Throbbing Gristle, Esplendor Geométrico and DAF. They employed the 'cut-up' technique William Burroughs used to write his books to splicing their magnetic tape loops. Instruments used included a Korg Lambda, Boss DR-55 drum machine, Roland SH 101, and MFB 501 drum machine. The lack of money to buy more expensive instruments forced the duo to be more creative. Everything was recorded directly to a cassette player that was plugged into a Revox B77 reel to reel tape machine to add echo. Ani manipulated and treated her naive, menacing vocals to match Javier's processed rhythms. These early sketches contain atonal, arhythmic, thick shifting curtains of synth, loops and radio samples. For this reissue we've added 7 bonus tracks taken from various cassette compilations, as well as three previously unreleased songs. Elements of industrial music, primitivistic techno and vocal manipulation are fused with a Dadaist approach utilizing modern technology.

All songs were remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The front cover is an exact replica of the band's original design, restored by Eloise Leigh.
