Sirus Hood & Malikk - Homo Sapiens EP

Mood Child
excl14.04.202314.APR.23

HouseTechTechnoTechno

MOOD CHILD is the new artistic platform of DJ/Producers, SIRUS HOOD & MANDA MOOR.

Evolving from a collective idea during our difficult pandemic period, MOOD CHILD is, at its centre, about community, collaboration, friends and family. Working together, feeding each others creativity and forging fresh and exciting new sounds and projects.

MOOD CHILD is an invitation to a journey that blends different feelings, emotions and desires. To activate your inner child. Reinvigorate the wild, primitive and unfiltered state of being and create an almost divine sense of unity. All through the power of music and art.

Their collective sensibility is nurtured upon the dancefloor and last summer they were blessed to have presented a first MOOD CHILD experience in collaboration with Hï and Café Mambo in Ibiza. The mood then took them to Bagatelle in Zürich and Lovefest in Serbia and they now prepare to launch their 2023 campaign alongside the elrow family for a sold out event in Andorra 1st of April.

However, what is a party without its soundtrack? Their first release, as its title suggests, brilliantly displays the labels primal perception… ‘Homo Sapiens’ is the mood child of Sirus Hood and Malikk. Four carnal creations, all guaranteed to ignite a rabid dancefloor response.

‘Booty Side’ uses its compass to expertly navigate its way through bubbling acid and rolling snares as we go in search of Jack, while the title track will have us going ape to its chest-beating bump and knuckle-dragging groove.

Silverback beats swing low on the flip too as ‘King MTF Kong’ bites hard with its heavy Chicago hustle and detuned synth, while the feral Juke-infused finale, ‘Gorilla Walk’, is a break-neck bass-driven and bruising encounter that is more Jersey club than Empire State building.

The ‘Home Sapiens’ EP is released on the 14th April and will be available on vinyl and digital formats, alongside a series of exclusive NFTs.

MOOD CHILD’s official online store will launch soon and feature not only the music and digital art projects, but also an official clothing brand, sample packs and exclusive content from their artists.

It’s time to connect with your MOOD CHILD.

CECILYA AND THE CANDY KINGS - PARISIAN MAMBO

PopBlues

Parisian mambo " is the second album by " Cecilya & the Candy Kings ". The entire LP is an homage to the city of Paris, that has made musically grown up the catalan singer since she settled down in the capital of love. The 11 songs of the album take you to a musical journey back to the 1950"s by the hand of a woman with a powerful and luminous voice committed to the causes of her time. Cecilya"s lyrics, intimate and universal at the same time, not only speak about love and celebrationas the old rhythm"n"blues did. She speaks about dreams (broken or not), internal struggles, healing, emigration, her native Mediterranean sea, the chance to be a freewoman, the superficiality of the world we live in and the nostalgia for better times. The music, signed Rodolphe Dumont, has been carefully created and produced to sublimate Cecilya"s personal universe. The retro sound ambiances and catchy melodies truly take us back to the times of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. "Parisian mambo" captures the essence of the cream of rhythm"n"blues from the golden era: a mix of blues, rock"n"roll, boogie-woogie, mambo and far more. The musicians on the album are:Cecilya Mestres on vocals, Rodolphe Dumont on electric guitar, Sax, Gordon on tenor and baritone saxophones, Olivier Cantrelle on piano, Abdell B. Bop on double bass and Denis Agenet on drums.

Nat King Cole - 25 Classic Tracks

PopJazz

Nat King Cole was born Nathaniel Adams on the 17th March 1917 in Montgomery, Alabama, USA. His family held a key position in the local black community with his father being pastor of the local Baptist church.

His first professional break came touring with the Broadway show “shuffle along” which eventually found its way to Los Angeles. Where Nat ended up playing at the century club on Santa Monica boulevard. This was an in-place for musicians and Nat’s already developed and incredible piano playing became a great attraction eventually forming a trio with Oscar Moore on guitar and Wesley Price on bass. With Nat’s great voice and add libs the trio were a great success in 1939/40.

In 1943 Cole signed to the infant Capitol records and began his enormous string of hits for that label and eventual amazing career partnership with the great arranger and orchestra leader Nelson Riddle. This was at the time of popular music already pioneered by Bing Crosby and latterly Frank Sinatra and something Nat would become a master of, with his by now incredible, highly developed and unique voice which we all instantly recognise.

Right up until his untimely and tragic death on 15th February 1965, Nat made a string of successful records for capitol, a string of film appearances, and the first black presenter of his own tv show, which ran for many years and introduced a whole host of new and old artists to the television screens. As is so often with people so talented, Nat’s life was short but extremely successful. He was a well loved and admired person with his vibrant and kind personality with many great friends and colleagues and made an enormous contribution to the music industry, civil rights and the world in general.

As a singer and pianist, he was exceptionally talented, and his voice will live on in immortality. His ability to express and sing any song was quite extraordinary to say the least and these recordings are a fine example of that ability. A must have for all music lovers!

Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases ist der 2. Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases ist das beste Beispiel dafür! Das Cover, ebenfalls designt von Jens-O-Matic, ist eine Hommage an die wegweisende 84er Compilation Rockabilly Psychosis and the Garage Disease!

Nat ‘King’ Cole was born in Alabama in 1917. He began his musical
career in the 1940s with his own Jazz trio, but his skills as an innovative Jazz Pianist soon became overshadowed by his skills as a ballad singer. Cole’s phrasing, his uncanny ability at interpreting a song and his sheer style made the whole business seem natural and effortless. Smoother than Sinatra, cooler than Crosby, when it came to crooners, Nat Cole truly was the King. His mellow approach influenced not only other ballad singers, but a whole generation of 1960s soul singers. This 16-track ‘greatest hits’ collection is a superb selection.

Nurse With Wound - Rock 'n Roll Station
ABST011
Abstrakce Records
2x12inch18.11.202018.NOV.20

TechnoExperimentalBeats

Reissue of this mesmerizing record including an unreleased alternate mix of "Subterranean Zappa Blues". Hypnotic rhythms made of slow minimal beats, industrial textures, intoxicating drones and repetitive voices that seem to merge from dreams. Everything built by two of the most brilliant industrial music minds: Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter.

"This album arrived somewhere after a dream meeting of several individuals, Graham Bond, Joe Meek, Jacques Berrocal and myself. After a few beers and a heated disscussion of puncture repair we all lay down in a circle and point our penises at Venus, telepathic messages are sent out to Colin saying he can use the two golden microphones. He did, and here we are." Steven Stapleton, 17.1.94.

Rock 'n Roll Station began life with Steven Stapleton asking engineer Colin Potter to remix some of the more rhythmic elements of 'Colder Still' from 1992's Thunder Perfect Mind. As Potter gradually warped these sections into weirder and weirder pieces, a new album began to emerge. Potter himself explained it to David Keenan in England’s Hidden Reverse: “What I sometimes did in the studio was to ‘over-use’ effects and processors to totally mutate a piece into something completely different” while Stapleton observed how “it was almost as though telepathic messages were sent over to Colin. We’d started an album together at IC Studio that was never finished. He then sent me some vague mixes, which were just what I had in mind. So, from that basis, I started putting the album together.”

Potter would quickly become a key player in Nurse With Wound’s productions, a position he continues to fulfil to this day. He was first credited as a member on 1992’s Thunder Perfect Mind, a tour-de-force of cold, at times hostile, machined atmospheres, but considers Rock ‘N Roll Station from the following year to still be his favourite.

Building on percussion and drone elements, Stapleton and Potter throw in a huge range of bizarre and atmospheric elements: didgeridoos, chanting voices, and their usual selection of unidentifiable sounds.

Its strong focus on rhythm was erroneously surmised by some as an attempt to join the then rising electronic dance music scene. But it was Stapleton’s recent obsession with the music of ‘King of the Mambo’ Pérez Prado that was beating at the heart of Rock N’ Roll Station’s heady rhythms.

The album’s title alluded to two specifically rock-related stations of influence: the song of the same name by Jac Berrocal, of which a surprisingly straight cover opens the album in homage; and the tragic life of the Sixties British R&B organist Graham Bond who influenced bands such as Deep Purple and Cream. Beset by mental health problems (at one point believing he was the son of Aleister Crowley), Bond died under a train at a Tube station in 1989 and it is this tragic scene that Rock ‘n Roll Station’s closing track, ‘Finsbury Park, May 8th, 1:35 PM (I'll See You In Another World)’, sets in sound.

With the sole exception of Louis Armstrong, Nat "King" Cole was one of therare black artists to enjoy such celebrity in the Forties and Fifties. He began his career as a pianist, forming a trio in 1937 with guitarist Oscar Moore and bassist Wesley Prince, but he was so successful as a singer that he went on to make many recordings as a vocalist.

Capitol, his record label, was quick to capitalize on Nat Cole's velvet tones. The hits came one after another: Straighten Up and Fly Right (1943) sold a million copies, and Nature Boy (1948) and Mona Lisa (1950) sold over three 3 million each. Some of his other (numerous) popular hits can be found on Side B.

Nat Cole's popular songs, however — some were so sentimental they were even slushy — should never conceal his talents as a pianist and musician, which he displayed with the best jazz orchestras around (Side A), his own trio (Side C) or in outings with Latin rhythms (Side D).

His fame earned him his own NBC television show in 1956, while Presidents Truman andKennedy would consult Nat on complex racial issues. He also appeared in some fifty films, and continued to record profusely (at least a hundred of his titles entered the sales charts). Nat "King" Cole deserved his title: not only did he sell over fifty million albums, but he also belongs to those artists who wrote jazz history.

Still deeper forays into the musical landscape of the Windrush generation. A dazzling range of calypso, mento, joropo, steelband, palm-wine and r’n'b. Expert revivals of stringband music, from way back, alongside proto-Afro-funk. An uproarious selection of songs about the H-Bomb and modern phones, prostitution and Haile Selassie, mid-life crisis and the London Underground, racism and solidarity, the Highway Code and a 100% West Indian Royal Wedding.
For example some frantic British-Guianan joropo music-hall about Eatwell Brown from Clapham, who starts out biting off a piece of his mother-in-law’s face at a party, then devours everything in his path… a chunk of Brixton Prison, a Union Jack, a policeman’s uniform. Or Marie Bryant — collaborator of Lester Young and Duke Ellington — taking time off from skewering the South African PM Daniel Malan at her West End revue, to contribute some arch, swinging filth about uber-genitalia. Superior sound, courtesy of Abbey Road, D&M and Pallas; lovely gatefold sleeve; full-size booklet, with full notes, and fabulous previously-unseen photographs, including a set from the family archive of Russ Henderson (who led the first, impromptu Notting Hill Carnival march, in 1966).

'Afro Rock Vol. 1' is one of the most important compilations of heavy original '70s Afro funk and soul to be released in recent years. Originally surfacing on Duncan Brooker's indie Kona label in early 2001, the album single-handedly kick-started the thirst among jazz, funk and soul fans and 'diggers' to rediscover lost music from Africa made during the '60s and '70s from a time when many countries were gaining independence and celebrating a Pan-African identity within their music. The album was one of the first to reach a far different audience to the traditional 'world music' market and spawned many further projects and labels in its wake. A year later, the 'Nigeria 70' compilation surfaced on Strut and labels like Soundway and Analog Africa would continue to unearth amazing lost gems from the Motherland. The album is testament to the determined work of Brooker following several research trips, especially to East Africa - Kenya and Zaire. It brought to light East Africa's finest funk band, Air Fiesta Matata, led by the recently deceased Steele Beautttah, 'The Nigerian James Brown' Geraldo Pino from Port Harcourt in Nigeria, and the storming Afro jam 'Yuda' by Dackin Dackino, a previously unreleased gem from Zaire discovered on a discarded reel. The album has remained influential since its release with tracks appearing on other Afro compilations and on TV and the big screen - Jingo's 'Fever' featured in Kevin McDonald's 2006 hit film, 'Last King Of Scotland'.Out of print since 2015, the album is being reissued on Strut in its original form with the extra dynamite unreleased psychedelic cut by Kenya's Ishmael Jingo, 'Keep On Holding On' taken from the original master tape.
