Für Lacrimas Profundere, eine der innovativsten und erfolgreichsten deutschen Dark Metal-Bands der Gegenwart, ging es im Falle des neuen Studioalbums ‚How To Shroud Yourself With Night’ (VÖ. 26. August 2022, Steamhammer/SPV) vor allem um die vermeintliche Bürde ihrer 2019er Erfolgsscheibe ‚Bleeding The Stars‘. Denn deren Bilanz hatte indirekt riesige Erwartungen geweckt: „Album des Monats“ im ‚Metal Hammer‘, ‚Orkus‘ und ‚Dead Rhetoric‘, Top-10-Platzierungen in den anderen wichtigen Magazinen, dazu Charts-Einstieg sowie die bis dato erfolgreichste Headlinertour der Gruppe. Wer würde da nicht automatisch mit einer Fortsetzungsgeschichte liebäugeln? „Für mich ging es darum, sich vom Druck des Erfolges zu befreien und zu versuchen, die Messlatte höher zu hängen, dem Spiel voraus zu sein, sich selbst zu fordern und originell zu bleiben, anstatt auf Nummer-Sicher zu gehen und eine Art ‚Bleeding Part II‘ zu schreiben“, erklärt Gitarrist, Bandgründer und Hauptkomponist

(2017). Für die Aufnahmen mit dem gefeierten
Produzenten Scott Horscroft zog die Band zum
Höhepunkt der Pandemie für drei Monate nach Eden an
die Südküste von New South Wales und machte sich
daran, ein Album zu schreiben, welches im Kontrast zu
der Negativität in der Welt steht. Das Ergebnis ist ein
Album voller Spaß und melodischem Rock'n'Roll.

Als Oasis 1997 ihr drittes Album "Be Here Now" veröffentlichten, waren sie nicht weniger als die größte

Matmos are one of the most prominent experimental electronic artists working today, crafting work by creating new conceptual frameworks & immediately testing those frameworks absolute limits. For Regards / Uklony dla Boguslaw Schaeffer they've focused on another artist known, in large part, for doing the same. Boguslaw Schaeffer was one of the first Polish artists creating electronic music. In step with American contemporaries like John Cage and Morton Feldman, he worked across the boundaries of classical composition, electronic experimentation, and radical theater in playfully form-breaking ways. Matmos are not the first ones to recognize the power of his catalog, from Solo (a 2008 documentary that garnered numerous international awards), to the annual Shaeffer's Era Festival (most recently celebrated simultaneously in Warsaw and Los Angeles) his work continues to inspire. Regards.. however, was not just inspired by his work, Matmos were given access to the entirity of Schaeffer's recorded works to use as they saw fit, commissioned by the prestigious Instytutu Adama Mickiewicza. They re-assembled & re-combined these recorded works with modern instrumentations in a way that only Matmos could, and what emerges is a composite portrait of the utopian 1960s Polish avant-garde and the contemporary dystopian cultural moment regarding each other across a distance. To facilitate the transcultural exchange that is the album's essential premise, all song titles and liner-notes are provided in both English and Polish. The album was mastered by Rashad Becker and features illustration and design by acclaimed artist Robert Beatty (Tame Impala, Osees, Mdou Moctar). Like the anagrams of the letters of Boguslaw Schaeffer's name that were re-assembled to create some of the song titles, the album itself is a musical re-assemblage of component parts into possible but unforeseen new shapes. Adding harp from Irish harpist Una Monaghan, erhu, viola and violin from Turkish multi-instrumentalist Ulas Kurugullu, and electronic processes from Baltimore instrument builder Will Schorre, and Horse Lords wunderkind Max Eilbacher, the resulting arrangements constantly toy with scale as they move from the close-mic-ing of ASMR and the intimacy of chamber music to the immensity of processed drones and oceanic field-recordings that close the album. In many ways Kumoyo Island represents the culmination of a journey for Kikagaku Moyo. While their decade-long career can be summarized as a series of kaleidoscopic explorations through lands and dimensions far and near, there’s a strong intention in each of their works to take the listener to a particular place, however real or abstract they may be. In that sense, the title and cover art for the band’s fifth and final album draws you into a magical mass of land surrounded by water—but the couch suggests that Kumoyo Island may not be a fleeting stop, but rather a place of respite, where one could pause and take it all in.

Reconvening at Tsubame Studios in Asakusabashi, Tokyo, where their earliest material had been recorded, the five members of Kikagaku Moyo found new inspiration in a familiar and comfortable environment. With their adopted homebase of Amsterdam under lockdown and their touring activities halted due to the pandemic, the band felt a renewed sense of freedom being back in shitamachi, or the old downtown area of their hometown. With unrestricted time in the studio, they began to build upon the demos and song fragments they’d amassed since their last tour. In the 1.5 months spent in Tokyo, everything started to come together.

“Monaka”, its name taken from a type of Japanese wafer sweets, takes melodic inspiration from traditional minyo folk styles, while “Yayoi Iyayoi” is a rare instance of the band singing in their native tongue, its evocative lyrics utilizing archaic words taken from old poetry and nature books found in one of the many secondhand bookstores of Tokyo. For “Meu Mar”, an Erasmos Carlos cover, the original Portuguese lyrics were translated into English, then to Japanese. Strangely enough, the words seem to conjure an image of the protagonist floating among the clouds, looking down upon Tokyo Bay.

In fact, it may be possible to draw a parallel between the topography of the band’s home country—an island nation, surrounded by bodies of water—and the mysterious isle of Kumoyo. Are they one and the same? Has the band finally made it back home? It’s up to the listener to decide.

Jake Muir is a sound designer and artist from Los Angeles, California, where he's previously recorded and released albums under the Monadh moniker for Further Recordsand Dragon's Eye Recordings, the latter of which recently lead to his inclusion on the Touch compilation 'Live At Human Resources', where he took part in a beautiful group tribute to Jóhann Jóhannsson along with a number of solo contributions.
On 'Lady's Mantle' Muir unfurls a poignant sound image crafted from samples of a well loved American pop group and later smudged with field recordings made everywhere from Iceland to California. In nine succinct scenes, the results loosely limn a wide sense of space and place with its fading harmonic auroras and glinting, half-heard surf rock melodies rendered in an abstract impressionist manner that suggests a fine tracing of in-between-spaces, perhaps describing metropolitan sprawl giving way to vast mountain ranges and oceanic scales.
In effect the album recalls the intoxicated airs of Pinkcourtesyphone (a.k.a L.A. resident Richard Chartier) as much as Andrew Pekler's sensorial soundscapes and even the
plangent production techniques of Phil Spector. But for all its implied sense of space, ultimately there's a paradoxically close intimacy to proceedings which feels like you're the passenger in Muir's ride, and he patently knows the scenic route.

Jazz writer Walter Kolovsky has said that Friday Night In San Francisco "may be the most influential of all acoustic guitar albums." LPs of it have been a demonstration staple on turntables around the world for over 40 years. To celebrate the lasting impact of this singular album and the legendary concert that it represents, Impex Records is proud to announce the long-awaited follow up: Saturday Night In San Francisco.

Working with hours of original 16-track live session tapes, Al Di Meola and his team have brilliantly curated this musical tour-de-force, bringing to life for the first time on LP, SACD-Hybrid and CD the explosively virtuosic final performance of Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco De Lucia at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, December 6, 1980. In the exclusive essay by music historian Charles L. Granata, Di Meola says of that final night: "It's exciting because the audience was right there with us, savoring every single note of music. And, we were ripping. It was crazy good!"

Das hochgelobte und mittlerweile legendäre Debütalbum von DARKANE wurde ursprünglich 1999 veröffentlicht.

Die Band existierte erst seit sieben Monaten, als sie "Rusted Angel" bei Dug Out Productions mit dem Produzenten Daniel Bergstrand aufnahm. Zunächst wollten DARKANE eine Mischung aus Göteborg-Metal und Florida-Death-Metal spielen, doch während der Aufnahmen begannen sie mit Growls und melodischem Gesang zu experimentieren - etwas, das in diesem Genre neu war und in naher Zukunft sehr beliebt werden sollte.

Nach der Veröffentlichung erhielt "Rusted Angel" großartige Kritiken in Magazinen auf der ganzen Welt. Das deutsche Rock Hard Magazin vergab den ersten Platz beim Soundcheck, während das niederländische Aardschok Magazin den zweiten Platz vergab.

black midi, das sind Geordie Greep (Gitarre, Gesang), Cameron Picton (Bass, Gesang) und Morgan Simpson (Schlagzeug), ihr 3. Album "Hellfire" erscheint am 15. Juli auf Rough Trade Records. Die erste Single daraus hat den wohligen Titel "Welcome To Hell". "Hellfire" wurde nach der Veröffentlichung des Vorgängers "Cavalcade" in London in Abgeschiedenheit geschrieben und baut auf den melodischen und harmonischen Elementen des Vorgängers auf, während es die Brutalität und Intensität des Debüts "Schlagenheim" ausbaut. Wie Greep es beschreibt: "Wenn Cavalcade ein Drama war, ist "Hellfire" wie ein epischer Action-Film", der sich mit überlappenden Themen wie Schmerz, Verlust und Angst beschäftigt. Es ist ihr bisher thematisch kohärentestes und durchdachtestes Album". Während die Geschichten von "Cavalcade" in der dritten Person geschildert wurden, erzählt "Hellfire" seine Geschichten aus der Ich-Perspektive eines moralisch fragwürdigen Charakters. Es gibt direkte dramatische Monologe, die an unser verkommenes Gefühl für Recht und Unrecht appellieren. Man ist sich nie so ganz sicher, ob man lachen oder entsetzt sein soll. "Welcome To Hell" erzählt die Geschichte der Exzesse eines ausschweifenden Soldaten und seiner Entlassung aus dem Militärdienst, untermalt von funkigen Gitarrensätzen, treibenden Bläsern und einem knorrigen Gesang. Das Video wurde von Gustaf Holtenäs gedreht, der auch schon beim Video zu "Slow" Regie führte. Die Entstehung von "Hellfire" dauerte nur sechs Monate und begann mit einem Riff bei einem Jam der Gruppe, das sich zu dem futuristischen Boxdrama "Sugar/Tzu" entwickelte. Die Bandbreite und die Kraft sowie die starke Produktion der Musik von black midi war noch nie so groß wie auf dem neuen Album, was zum Teil der Produzentin Marta Salogni zu verdanken ist, die mit der Band bereits am "Cavalcade"-Opener "John L" gearbeitet hat. Aber wie immer ist die Art der Musik, die black midi spielen, nicht so wichtig wie ihre Qualität. Und was auch immer du über die Musik von black midi denkst, ist es wichtig, was du dabei fühlst, wenn du sie wirklich hörst.

Die erste Single daraus hat den wohligen Titel "Welcome To Hell". "Hellfire" wurde nach der Veröffentlichung des Vorgängers "Cavalcade" in London in Abgeschiedenheit geschrieben und baut auf den melodischen und harmonischen Elementen des Vorgängers auf, während es die Brutalität und Intensität des Debüts "Schlagenheim" ausbaut. Wie Greep es beschreibt: "Wenn Cavalcade ein Drama war, ist "Hellfire" wie ein epischer Action-Film", der sich mit überlappenden Themen wie Schmerz, Verlust und Angst beschäftigt. Es ist ihr bisher thematisch kohärentestes und durchdachtestes Album". Während die Geschichten von "Cavalcade" in der dritten Person geschildert wurden, erzählt "Hellfire" seine Geschichten aus der Ich-Perspektive eines moralisch fragwürdigen Charakters. Es gibt direkte dramatische Monologe, die an unser verkommenes Gefühl für Recht und Unrecht appellieren. Man ist sich nie so ganz sicher, ob man lachen oder entsetzt sein soll. "Welcome To Hell" erzählt die Geschichte der Exzesse eines ausschweifenden Soldaten und seiner Entlassung aus dem Militärdienst, untermalt von funkigen Gitarrensätzen, treibenden Bläsern und einem knorrigen Gesang. Das Video wurde von Gustaf Holtenäs gedreht, der auch schon beim Video zu "Slow" Regie führte. Die Entstehung von "Hellfire" dauerte nur sechs Monate und begann mit einem Riff bei einem Jam der Gruppe, das sich zu dem futuristischen Boxdrama "Sugar/Tzu" entwickelte. Die Bandbreite und die Kraft sowie die starke Produktion der Musik von black midi war noch nie so groß wie auf dem neuen Album, was zum Teil der Produzentin Marta Salogni zu verdanken ist, die mit der Band bereits am "Cavalcade"-Opener "John L" gearbeitet hat. Aber wie immer ist die Art der Musik, die black midi spielen, nicht so wichtig wie ihre Qualität. Und was auch immer du über die Musik von black midi denkst, ist es wichtig, was du dabei fühlst, wenn du sie wirklich hörst.

To celebrate the lasting impact of this singular album and the legendary concert that it represents, Impex Records is proud to announce the long-awaited follow up: Saturday Night In San Francisco.

Working with hours of original 16-track live session tapes, Al Di Meola and his team have brilliantly curated this musical tour-de-force, bringing to life for the first time on LP, SACD-Hybrid and CD the explosively virtuosic final performance of Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco De Lucia at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, December 6, 1980. In the exclusive essay by music historian Charles L. Granata, Di Meola says of that final night: "It's exciting because the audience was right there with us, savoring every single note of music. And, we were ripping. It was crazy good!"

Impex worked carefully with Di Meola, mixing engineer Roy Hendrickson (SPIN Studio), and mastering engineer Bernie Grundman to recreate the magic of Friday Night In San Francisco so these never-before-released solos and trios burst out of your system with striking clarity, dynamics and technical brilliance. Not Today Satan is a song about accepting love as the agent of change, Don't be sad, but do get mad at all the small men who act so tall, in the end they always fall, there ain't no sin in giving in to love, that's just how we're winning the fight.' ‘Cranes In The Sky,’ was originally written by Beyonce’s baby sister Solange alongside Raphael Saadiq, for her album back in 2016 that was cited by Rolling Stone as one of the most important 500 records of all time. The words exploring a fearless journey inward, pulling up the root of a problem, and the first glimpse of blue sky after the storm has passed.

Fast forward to 2022 - Ross Allen and Andy Thompson’s Foundation Music Productions enlist the expertise of Baltimore club legend, Dj Oji, together with Tracy Hamlin (Pieces Of A Dream), to take Solange’s breakout delivery to the dancefloor. Soulful vocals will heal you, while the mid-tempo moments will mellow the masses, and UK Funky grooves will keep the shuffle moving along way into the early hours.
