It is a curious mixture of musical styles reminiscent of the time around 1967, when bands experimented in the studio and paved new paths. So maybe, the album title "Dawns on Mental Highways" reflects the stance towards their music. Or maybe it hints at something different. Who can tell? All you need to do is listen, and there is a lot to hear: The singer seems to have a fragile voice, yet shouts her Dylanesque lyrics angrily from time to time. The organ player soaks half of the songs with a classic acid sound. The guitar player acts a folky one, throwing in acoustic tunes and flute, before bashing into heavy electric riffs. The bass player is unusually jumpy on his Tropicana-fused lines while the drummer dances and stomps easily as needed.

Factory Benelux presents a blue vinyl edition of Short Stories for Pauline, the ‘lost’ fourth album by cult Manchester group The Durutti Column. Limited to just 500 copies, this edition also features a new cover image by photographer Mark Warner.
 Originally recorded by Vini Reilly in Brussels in November 1983, the 14 track album features several key Durutti works including College, A Room in Southport and (best of all) Duet. Recorded with Tuxedomoon viola player Blaine L. Reininger, this poignant instrumental proved - ironically – to be the downfall of the album, after Factory founder (and Durutti manager) Tony Wilson insisted that Duet form the basis of an entire neo-classical album. Thus Duet became Without Mercy in 1984, and Short Stories for Pauline was shelved.
Other guest musicians on the album include drummer Alain Lefebvre, harpist Anne van den Troost and sax player Eric Sleichim.

Noesis is the transatlantic convergence of ST’Pauls, Bristol lyricist Wish Master and New Orleans producer Wino Willy—a dense, meditative body of work where razor-edged wordplay meets smoked-out, rhythm-forward production. 'Still Standing Here' kicks things off on the B-side and begin in March 2022 as vocalist Madeeha recorded an accapella vocal idea in a phone voice message, quietly singing into her phone to avoid waking the neighbours. She sent the idea to drum & bass producer from Bristol, DJ Mixjah, who then approached friend Sean McCabe with the idea. Together they produced a hypnotic afro-tinged soulful backing track to fit with the voice message, with an intention to re-record it in a studio environment. Sean and Mixjah soon realised that the music they had created blended perfectly with the sincerity, intimacy & rawness of Madeeha's heartfelt performance in the original voice message and decided to stick with it. A firm fave for Atjazz, Crackazat , DJ Spen & Emmaculate.

Wrapping things up is 'You Don’t Know', a slick & energetic dancefloor bubbler from London based producer/DJ ‘David Bailey’ and Canadian soulful songstress ‘MissFly’. David Bailey is a firm favourite amongst the London house music community. Bitter Honey is the new album by Eric Silverman. Produced in collaboration with Damien Lewis, the album finds Silverman leaving behind the acid-fried desert rock of 2023’s Stay In It for something far more lush and expansive—a collection of ten psychedelic rock, pop, and folk tracks inspired by Peter Gabriel, John Cale, and Jeff Tweedy. Fittingly, the album is named after the “mad honey” of the rhododendron flower, a rare and potent hallucinogenic found high in the Himalayas.
The process of writing and recording the album started in early 2023, when Silverman and longtime collaborator Lewis retreated to a cabin near Nevada City, CA. Over the course of a week they sketched out the bones of nearly half the album, with Silverman recording the guitar solo for album opener “Anthropocene” live in one take during a particularly inspired moment. Meanwhile, “Get In Where You Fit In”, inspired by a bumper sticker Silverman saw heading up the mountain, was recorded on Jerry Garcia’s old 8-track tape machine and features pedal steel by Jake (Freeman) DeJongh. While at the cabin they also captured the field recordings that bookend the album, starting with the intro of “Anthropocene” and ending with the outro of “Bitter Honey” - an infinite loop.

Later on they decamped to Palomino Sound in LA for a round of sessions – tracking “Light Me Up” and “Trapped In Reverse” while making use of the prodigious assortment of vintage instruments at their disposal, including a 65’ Wurlitzer electric piano that became the centerpiece of a number of tracks. Eventually the pair ended up at 2200 Studios (formerly The Record Plant) in Sausalito, CA—a legendary studio where Prince, The Grateful Dead, and Fleetwood Mac made classic records. It was there that they tracked “New Light”, featuring strings by brothers Graham and Lewis Patzner; recorded all of Adam MacDougall’s (The Black Crowes, Circles Around the Sun) overdubs, including his synth leads on “Living the Dream”; and mixed the album in Studio A.

In a lot of ways Bitter Honey is Silverman’s first proper studio album. It’s also the first time Silverman has sat in the producer’s chair, this time around sharing the credit with Lewis. While his debut album was a product of its environment, all first takes and raw energy, Bitter Honey is thoughtful and focused, the best work Silverman has done and the culmination of his decade plus creative partnership with Lewis.

Released in 1985, Green River “Come On Down" was a record existing in its sonic universe out of step with its own time. Was it glam? Was it punk? Was it metal? Was it cool? We now know it was one of the building blocks of what Mark Arm would coin as "grunge" but in 1985 this record was a silent groundbreaker. It was not only the raw, sludgy, slower guitar sound that makes this band important in its place in rock history, but the members of Green River would go on to lead some of the biggest names in the genre: Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, the latter of which also contained the roots of Pearl Jam. The record includes the iconic original cover artwork, now pressed on black vinyl, and includes a printed inner sleeve with lyrics and photo of the original master tape box, plus an unreleased rare bonus track!

Kitchen Knife Conspiracy emerged in 1998, blending death metal, hardcore, nu-metal, and thrash metal into a volatile concoction labeled ‘stompcore’ early in the band’s career. Forged in the industrial, run-down steel mills of Youngstown, Ohio, the group has laid down brutal riffs and relentless grooves over the course of five full-length albums, one EP, and a live DVD set.
The band has always diversified their sound from album to album: their debut, Sin-Pathetic, leans proudly into death metal and thrash. Their sophomore effort, Handicapitated, bears influence from hardcore, nu-metal, and sludge. Worst Case in Stereo, recorded and produced by Steve Austin of Today is the Day, “stands firmly in the shadow of grind-kings like Obituary,” as reviewed by Cleveland Scene. Their fourth effort, A Friend in Need...Is a Friend to Kill, incorporates a large dose of thrash and grind. The latest album from Michael Cashmore (formerly of Current 93, plus known for his work as Nature and Organisation and collaborations with artists such as Marc Almond, Nick Cave, Bill Fay, Rose McDowell and Antony and the Johnsons, amongst others) veers from the paths his previous releases have been on into an area altogether more grandiose or stately. While all of his recordings under his own name have alluded to orchestral or soundtrack work to varying degrees, he has long committed himself to a series of six actual symphonies. The fourth will appear on Finland’s Svart Records and the fifth takes the form of this limited edition vinyl release on Lumberton Trading Company. Comprising four movements, two on each side, under the title The Last Light is Your Own Star, these are as bold and beautiful as they are demonstrative of a composer now reaching new heights as he matures into his vision.

Side A begins with CEM3340 & 2030’s “I Don’t Know”, a Detroit-inspired electro cut merging crunchy basslines, warm strings and raw energy, showcasing the nostalgic yet forward-thinking music crafted by two key figures of the Italian electro underground. Lake Haze keeps the electro narrative moving with “Modular Processed Data”, a melancholic broken-beat piece that balances softness and strength with timeless poise. Closing the side, 3KZ unveils “Step Into Light”, pushing the emotional range further through radiant melodic layers and harmonic clarity: high-impact, luminous, and built for those rare moments on a big system when everything clicks.

The journey ends with three shape-shifting cuts on the B Side that refuse to play it safe. Passarani 2099 (an alias of Marco Passarani) warps the frame with “Golden Valley”, channeling dubstep tempo, neuro-basslines, and haunting sequences into mutant rhythmic territory. Peryl’s “Res Affair” follows as a modular techno bomb—wobbling bass, broken patterns, alien textures, riding the edge between chaos and control with surgical intent. Finally, Nothus closes the compilation with “Tango”, an uncompromising finale of gritty rhythm work and experimental propulsion: the perfect full-stop to a decade mapped in sound.

Soul, jazz-rock, candombe and funk blend in the cocktail of La Banda's first and sole album. Often regarded as Argentina's first supergroup, the ensemble built a reputation on their explosive live performances during a time of political repression. Short-lived but unforgettable, the six-piece brought together top-tier jazz musicians—five Argentinians alongside Uruguayan icon Rubén Rada—to deliver a deep, hard-hitting sound that resonates far beyond its era.

Rada arrived in Buenos Aires bruised — a romantic disaster and a string of empty concert halls back in Montevideo had pushed him to start over at 35. Behind him lay a remarkable journey: from inventing candombe beat with El Kinto, to leading the Latin rock powerhouse Tótem, to recording cosmic jazz with Opa alongside the Fattoruso brothers. Trumpeter Benny Izaguirre, the band's architect, gathered around him a cast of heavyweights: pianist Jorge Navarro, an essential figure in the Buenos Aires jazz scene since the 1950s; saxophonist Bernardo Baraj, forged in Alma y Vida, Argentina's jazz-rock champions; and the irresistible rhythm section of bassist Ricardo Sanz and drummer Luis Ceravolo, both veterans of Astor Piazzolla's quintet. All three — Baraj, Sanz and Ceravolo — were simultaneously part of Banda Spinetta, the jazz-oriented project of Argentine legend Luis Alberto Spinetta.

The sessions also drew in two guests who needed no introduction: guitarist David Lebón — veteran of Pappo's Blues, Pescado Rabioso, Color Humano and Serú Girán, one of Argentine rock's true giants — and guitarist and producer Daniel Homer, a quietly indispensable figure across Buenos Aires' jazz and rock scenes.

Recorded in 1979 and gone almost as soon as it arrived — La Banda's brief existence and this sole album are what Buenos Aires sounded like when it was allowed to breathe. Between raids, between disappearances, in the stolen hours when music was louder than fear.

Carsten Meyer released his debut album “Erosound” in 1998 under the name “Erobique”. Exactly 25 years later, the now 50-year-old releases his second Erobique album on his own label A-sexy. Thirteen diverse tracks ranging from holiday disco to rhythm box rave, recorded and produced with many of his friends and companions. Twenty-five years, that's pretty much the time it took disco to evolve from the legendary loft parties of pioneer David Mancuso to the impressive mass spectacles of Daft Punk's performances, or from Meyer's birth to his first full-length record. So why only now a second album as “Erobique”?

Born in the Washington, DC area and raised in West Virginia, Miller has built a reputation as a thoughtful, boundary- pushing voice in alt- country and Americana, drawing from punk, traditional Appalachian music, and less conventional rock influences. For this record, he left his comfort zone behind and traveled to Tulsa to record at the legendary Church Studio, drawn by the city's deep musical legacy and its ties to artists like J.J. Cale. Co- produced with longtime collaborator Adam Meisterhans , the album was tracked live with a band of Tulsa- based musicians, including Grammy- nominated John Fullbright, under the steady hand of veteran engineers Gary Laney and Mike Prado. The result is John R. Miller 's most ambitious work to date - a spacious, textured collection that expands on the critically praised Depreciated and Heat Comes Down, blending road- worn storytelling, fuzzy atmospheres, and reflections on movement, memory, and change. Rooted in his West Virginia past yet shaped by constant travel and new collaborations, The Great Unknowing captures an artist trusting the process, embracing risk, and letting the groove lead the way.

Originally founded as a solo project by singer Georg Wilfinger (ex-Miasma) in 2010 in Austria, In 2012, the project evolved into a studio band with drummer Romain Goulon (ex-Necrophagist) and guitarist Jean-Pierre Battesti, releasing the demo "Bandroom Misanthropy" MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY have released three studio albums, and an EP Previous full-length album "Vile Postmortem Irrumatio" was released in August 2024 and drew roaring reviews worldwide. Chicago's FIG DISH didn't name themselves after a soft, sweet, fleshy fruit; rather, the name is a phonetic approximation of the German expletive, fick dich, (make of that what you will) FIG DISH were four high school friends: guitarists/ vocalists Rick Ness and Blake Smith, bassist/vocalist Mike Willison, and drummer Andy Hamilton. In their day (a day that began in the late Winter of 1991 and ended in the early summer of 1998), they were known for catchy songs, memorable (often booze-fueled) live shows, and selfsabotage.

Following vibraphonist and long-standing member Lewis Wright"s move to the USA, the award-winning UK jazz ensemble, featuring Nathaniel Facey on alto saxophone, Tom Farmer on double bass and Shaney Forbes on drums, have embraced a more flexible lineup. The trio enlist high-caliber guest artists to expand their sound, with long-time collaborators Ivo Neame on piano and David Preston on guitar lending their distinctive musical voices to the album. Recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago, the album captures Zu at their most raw and explosive -- where avant-jazz energy collides with the weight of experimental rock. Igneo (2002) by Zu is the band's debut studio album and marks the starting point of their distinctive sonic identity. Even at this early stage, many of the elements that would define their later work are already clearly present. The album emerges from a context deeply rooted in experimentation and exploration. Compared to their subsequent releases, the sound here feels more open and less tightly structured, with a stronger emphasis on improvisation and real- time interaction between the musicians. The trio--baritone sax, electric bass, and drums--develops a language that blends free jazz, noise, post- hardcore, and touches of contemporary composition.

Listening to Igneo, you can sense a balance between raw energy and expressive freedom. The baritone sax shifts between abrasive bursts and more spacious, stretched- out passages, while the bass moves from repetitive grooves into fragmented lines. Streetlight Manifesto’s debut full-length arrived in 2003 and immediately established the New Jersey band as a force in third-wave ska-punk. ‘Everything Peachy’ is a 12-part instrumental suite, inspired by ‘the Sky King’ (American folk hero Richard “Beebo” Russell), who stole a large aircraft with no flight training, performing stunts and manoeuvres, before crashing to his own demise, and takes its name from his response to air traffic control.
Conveying variously the chaos, nostalgia, regret and acceptance of Russell’s maiden flight, it is an open, freeform and flowing composition, drawing influence from the electronic experiments of Miles Davis and the melancholy of Satie, to create another moment of musical beauty from Matt’s curious and ever-moving musical mind.
