KITCHEN FUNK: The Groove Legacy of Funk, Hip-Hop, and House
Founded in 1999 in Lorient by Tabasko and Ramirez, key figures in the Breton underground scene, KITCHEN FUNK fuses hip-hop, soul, funk, acid jazz, and house music into a unique sonic universe. Combining punchy rhythms with captivating grooves, the duo made a name for itself in the 2000s, marked by the excitement of clubs and radio stations.

"LETUGO": A Forgotten Treasure Finally Rediscovered
Among their notable collaborations, "LETUGO," recorded with Karl the Voice, embodies the very essence of KITCHEN FUNK. This powerful track, blending funky vibes and soulful energy, didn't receive the promotion it deserved upon its release.

25 years later, the story takes an unexpected turn. After rediscovering local archives, RAMIREZ and JULIEN LO BONO decided to reissue "LETUGO" on vinyl to mark the project's anniversary. The initiative sparked immediate interest: Breton radio stations picked it up, and the record finally found its audience, proving that KITCHEN FUNK's groove is timeless.

A resounding success with "PUSSY CALL"
Before this resurgence, KITCHEN FUNK had made a lasting impression with "PUSSY CALL", a hit that received critical acclaim on Europe 2, NRJ, and RADIO FG. This success allowed the duo to sign with CHRYSALIS PUBLISHING and then 909 RECORDZ (WARNER FRANCE), confirming their place in the French music scene.

A promising future
And this is just the beginning... Boosted by this renewed interest, KITCHEN FUNK is preparing new projects, supported by Jean Jérôme, a key player in the success of "PUSSY CALL." A return to the stage is in the works, ready to rekindle the flame of funk, hip-hop, and house music for a new generation of enthusiasts.

The Nigerian princesses of afro-funk arrived on the international scene with 1976’s Danger and never looked back. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Adeniyi “Biddy” Wright, the six-song LP is a low-slung affair, awash in dreamy psychedelic guitar, crisp hi-hat shuffles, and telepathic harmony vocals from twins Taiwo and Kehinde. This 2025 remaster is housed in a deluxe tip-on jacket and includes lyrics in both Yorurban and English. Danger, danger, danger please come on back.

Décima Víctima were a Spanish-(Swedish) band that, during their short-lived career between 1981 and 1984, developed a very personal sound reminiscent of Joy Division, The Cure and other British post-punk bands. Although commercial success evaded them, rarely has any Spanish band achieved such a high degree of quality and coherence in their music and personality. This LP contains previously unreleased tracks recorded by Décima Víctima in November 1983, one month before their last concert. Seven of these songs feature different lyrics to the ones later recorded for the "Un hombre solo" album. This is the way they performed them that night on the Rock-Ola stage, so this record can be considered, to some extent, an approximation to their last show and to their powerful live sound. After many years a rehearsal session that DV had recorded on an old cassette tape has been resurfaced. It had originally been laid down on a four-track recorder but unfortunately the tape got lost.The story of these tracks goes back to the last weekend of October 1983, when DV went to record at friend Paco Trinidad's family home in the mountains north of Madrid. Paco recorded the latest songs on a four-track tape recorder at the house. It was done live, except for extra takes of clarinet and some guitar details. The garage sound, as the name suggests, was achieved in the garage and an adjoining room where the drums were played. The sleeve design is a photo montage of our performance for the Maqueta de Oro (Gold Demo) at the Diario Pop awards in March 1983, plus another photo of the band in the dressing room at Rock-Ola after playing our last gig. The directness and passion of the tape makes it an interesting item for collectors and fans and the fact that some of the lyrics were not the definitive ones is an added rarity that reveals the development process for the following LP "Un hombre solo".

Latency presents the first-ever arrangements of iconic Ethiopian composer Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru"s music for piano and strings, honoring her desire to broaden the interpretation of her work beyond the piano. Led by pianist, composer, and Emahoy"s close friend Maya Dunietz, a nine-piece string ensemble performed her compositions during two tribute concerts at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, in April 2024. This album celebrates the centenary of Emahoy"s birth and commemorates the first anniversary of her passing.

The collaboration between influential DJ/producer Eli Escobar and acclaimed vocalist/songwriter Nomi Ruiz has been a long time in the making. The two Puerto Rican New York native’s first collaboration, the electrifying track ‘Desire’ in 2011, set the stage for a series of projects, including their recent joint effort ‘Dance 4 Love ’99’. Now, they are set to release their debut LP, ‘Love Louder’.

‘Love Louder’ captures Eli and Nomi’s experiences of love and loss, reflecting their enduring connection to New York City and its vibrant, yet fading, nightlife culture. The album, while featuring dancefloor gems like ‘Heathens’ and ‘Full Fantasy’, takes an emotional turn, focusing on the themes of loss and presence in a rapidly changing world. The title track opens with lyrics invoking the late Donny Hathaway, reflecting a more profound introspection from the duo. They share their pain over loss, particularly the passing of mutual friend James Dewitt (DJ BluJemz), whose absence profoundly affected their creative process.

Escobar recently opened a club in Brooklyn named Gabriela, honoring a friend who passed away during the pandemic, emphasizing their commitment to preserving New York's cultural landscape. ‘Love Louder’ serves as a love letter to their hometown, intertwining celebration with mourning. In the poignant track ‘Go Be Gone’, Ruiz expresses the difficulty of embracing change and saying goodbye.

As they honor the past, they also aim for a brighter future through their music.

GOLLIWOG is billy woods' first album in two years, preceded by 2023's Maps, his second collaboration with producer Kenny Segal. That nimble travelogue has little in common with woods' newest work, despite the fact that Segal shows up a couple times in the credits. GOLLIWOG is a haunting collection that weaves horror, humor, surrealism and Afropessimism into a cinematic tapestry, aided and abetted by a murderer's row of producers. African zombies, time traveling trap cars, malevolent ragdolls and a dying Frantz Fanon are just a few of the revelers in woods' danse macabre. GOLLIWOG features production from The Alchemist, Kenny Segal, EL-P, Conductor Williams, Preservation, Messiah Musik, Sadhugold, Ant (Atmosphere), Shabaka Hutchings, Steel Tipped Dove, DJ Haram, Willie Green, Jeff Markey, Saint Abdullah, and LA-based experimental jazz trio Human Error Club. Meanwhile, woods is joined on the mic by Backwoodz labelmates ELUCID and Cavalier, along with rappers Bruiser Wolf, Despot, Al.Divino, and singer-songwriter Yolanda Watson. GOLLIWOG is another triumph in the woods oeuvre, as layered and compelling as anything he has ever done. A black carnival pitched in a muddy field overnight, empty rides whirring and clattering in the dark.

Zunächst nannte Gia Margaret ihr neues Album Romantic Piano, um ein wenig frech zu sein. Margarets Debütalbum There's Always Glimmer war ein lyrisches Wunderwerk, aber als sie wegen einer Krankheit auf Tournee nicht mehr singen konnte, nahm sie ihr Ambient-Album "Mia Gargaret" (ein weiterer frecher Titel!) auf, das ein feines Gespür für Arrangement und Komposition zeigte, das bei den lyrischen Songs von There's Always Glimmer nicht voll zum Tragen kam. Romantic Piano festigt sie als kompositorische Kraft. Ursprünglich hatte Margaret einen Abschluss in Komposition angestrebt, brach die Musikschule aber auf halbem Weg ab. "Ich wollte wirklich nicht in einem Orchester spielen", sagt sie über ihre Entscheidung, "ich wollte eigentlich nur Filmmusik schreiben. Dann begann ich, mich mehr und mehr darauf zu konzentrieren, eine Songschreiberin zu sein." Hackney Electronica come to Dark Entries with the Synaptic Shadows EP, featuring 5 cuts of acidic rave-inflected wave. Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London), Unai Trotti (Cartulis Music), and Margo Broom (Hermitage Working Studios) formed Hackney Electronica during COVID era. Trotti and Whalley were spending countless hours digging through records and making music during lockdown. As their sound took shape - heavy and hypnotic - they invited Broom to join, cementing the motley trio. The five pieces on Synaptic Shadows explore themes of altered states, late-night cityscapes, and the fine line between pleasure and paranoia. Each track pulses like a memory from the backstreets of Hackney, where the night transforms the city into an electrified maze of fleeting highs and inevitable crashes. The anxious grooves on “H.E. Nuestro Circuito” and “Whispers from the Depths” channel 1980s DIY electronics onto the contemporary dancefloor, while “Efecto Perfecto,” “The One”, and “Nueva Ola” offer breakbeat-laced electro that will keep you dancing until dawn. Housed in a sleeve designed by German Bardo, Synaptic Shadows is more than just a debut release, it’s a journey through the flickering alleys of the mind, where tension and transcendence intertwine.

Secret Soul Society aka Cal Gibson backs up his already assured reputation for being something of an edit maestro here. 'Julians Cabbages' kicks off with dubby downtempo drums and some lovely twinkling arps. 'Make It All True' then refracts a shimmering vocal and some nice musical percussion around a lazy groove and 'Finally Got My Life Together' has a dreamy feeling and widescreen synth architecture. 'Next To You' shuts down with more textured bass and another weird yet wonderful vocal sample.

Nail Tolliday is a legendary figure in the UK electronic music scene, hailing from Nottingham, having founded the influential Velocet and 89:GHOST labels, and currently running the *In The Dance* label, Tolliday has played an integral role in shaping the sound of underground dance music, with a career that dates back to the early 90s, his impeccable reputation spans across a wealth of releases on renowned labels such as Classic, Robsoul, and many others, his discography is nothing short of extensive, earning him praise from some of the most respected figures in the electronic music world, including Andrew Weatherall, Colin Faver, Fred Everything, and Danny Howells, beyond his solo work, Nail Tolliday was also part of the iconic group Bent, and in a further testament to his versatility, he has produced multiple tracks for the globally celebrated Sleaford Mods, his sound evokes the essence of classic house and disco from the early 90s, reminiscent of the pioneering works of DJ Sneak, Romanthony, and others who defined the era's vibrant dance scene, this latest EP is a masterclass in the golden era of dance music, seamlessly blending early house vibes with sultry, disco-infused grooves, it exudes a timeless, classy funk that will captivate any dancefloor, the EP as a whole feels like a cohesive journey through Tolliday's rich musical influences, while also carving out its own identity in the modern dance music landscape, each track on the EP is an essential offering, « Shakey » delivers a funky, infectious rhythm that immediately commands attention, the bassline grooves effortlessly, while the vocal snippets add an extra layer of depth, creating an instant floor-filler, « Oh Well » takes a more melodic turn, with smooth chords and a sophisticated vibe, making it perfect for those late-night moments when the energy is just right, « All I Want » is pure house magic, with soulful, driving percussion and a hypnotic vocal that brings everything together in a silky, irresistible package, « Starz » brings an upbeat, celebratory feel, packed with infectious melodies and a buoyant energy that's impossible to ignore, « Feel Like » wraps up the EP with a deeper, more introspective groove, complete with subtle synths and a rich, atmospheric atmosphere that lingers long after the track ends, this EP is a true testament to Nail Tolliday's legacy, showcasing his ability to create music that is both timeless and relevant, his style, while deeply rooted in the traditions of 90s house and disco, is infused with a modern sensibility that proves why he remains a living legend in the dance music world, strikingly, his sound also recalls the work of another recent house maverick, Soundstream, with its deep, raw grooves and unapologetic commitment to the classic roots of house music.

Senselessness 1/2 is the very first solo issue of the Swiss electronic composer Robin Félix, on his own label De l’Aube (Of Dawn), the occasion for him to prove that field recordings can be (or should be?) an integral part of the global matter, when so often they are just something hovering in the background because it’s “nice” or reminds the artist of a place he loves.

Throughout the length of these four tracks, they are litterally central; moreover, they are electronically transformed, manipulated, skewed and twisted in order to form some sort of framework, a backbone on to which sounds and genres intertwine. On Cluster, violins and cellos (recorded in the gardens of the Venice Biennale) are soon transmuted into the abrasions of the electroacoustic realm, until the pulse of a relentless bass introduces a pure and pristine electronic music that knows and uses the roots of dub, drum’n’bass and the meticulousness of Jan Jelinek’s Glitch aesthetics. A tad “housy”, Chi comes as a second pulse where a modified didgeridoo and African percussions (recorded in a Swiss forest) lead the listener to a sort of tribal mode, as suited to dancers than to those who prefer inner journeys; here, the spatial dub of King Tubby moves from background to foreground.

The more abstract Boiler verges on the IDM and the heady, elegant and spartan Detroit techno – headphones reveal its numerous minute and delicate details. Based on the recording of insects, of which one can hear the actual rubbing of elytras, the closing Swarm ends the record with and intricate blend of ambient, which in some way winks to the Aphex Twin and The Future Sound Of London. Overall Senselessness 1/2 is a mesmerising and concise update of the famous Deutsche elektronische musik of old, that gathered on its way the other genres that made Robin Félix tick. Since field recordings have hardly been that meaningful, one wonders where Senselessness 2/2 will lead us to

LTD Edition white vinyl version of RÜFÜS DU SOL's debut LP 'ATLAS' that hit Number 1 in Australia. The album was a testament to the band’s passion, work ethic and DIY approach to music, featuring the much loved singles 'Take Me' and 'Desert Night'.

A labour of love, the album was written, produced and recorded by the band between two studios they built themselves - one in a remote farmhouse on the NSW south coast, the second in a hollowed out water tank under one of their parents houses.

Hollie Cook, one of reggae’s most exciting voices, makes a return to the label that released her cherished debut album in 2011. Landing back on Mr Bongo, 'Night Night' is a stand-alone aperitif and taster of what to expect from the next era in Hollie's musical journey

Revisiting her roots, this latest single embraces the trademark reggae / tropical pop sound Hollie found fame with on her first two albums. With a career that has gone from strength to strength since those formative days, the buoyance, charisma, and confidence gained in those subsequent years are on show for all to see.

Recorded at Crosstown Studios in London with the General Roots band and produced, mixed and dubbed by Ben McKone, ‘Night Night’ documents the longing of a lonely lover. Grounded in a sound system rattling bass line, strutting guitars and shimmering keys provide a sunshine-infused contrast. Hollie’s smooth sultry tones radiate throughout, backed by the legendary Horseman on toasting duties - a collaboration that hasn’t been heard since Hollie’s first album. Trading verses, the warmth of Hollie's velvety vocals balances Horseman's raw explosive energy in an absorbing harmony.

In true reggae style, the 7" single is backed with a classic dub mix, adding spacey reverb and delays, whilst giving Hollie and Horseman a more spacious streamlined flow in the mix.

Das neue Album besticht unter anderem durch klare Aussagen und deutliche Stellungnahmen gegen gewisse Umtriebe aus Teilen der Deutschrockszene - unterlegt von eingehenden Gitarrenriffs, dem typischen kollektiven Singalongs der Band und dem dadurch mitreißenden United. Man kann den Punkrock nicht nur hören sondern buchstäblich fühlen. Laut. Direkt. Bedingungslos. Weiterhin gibt es klare Abgrenzungen zu den alten Alben, da neue Stile und musikalische Veränderungen in "So wie Ihr uns kennt?!" integriert wurden. Es finden sich bei "Kopie" Ska-Gitarren wieder, "Geliebt, Gehasst" wurde zusammen mit "Das weiße Rauschen" eingesungen und an ein komplett englisches Lied hat sich die Band diesmal ebenfalls herangetraut. Das Album befindet sich durchgängig in Bewegung und sorgt beim geneigten Hörer durchweg für Überraschungen. Dennoch sind sich "Harte Worte" treu geblieben. Mit erhobenen Fäusten und gezücktem Mittelfinger machen die Jungs keinen Hehl daraus, was und wer ihnen nicht passt und sich besser nicht in den Weg stellen sollte. Punkrock der bewegt, Spaß macht und sich nicht zensieren lässt. So kann man das neue Album der Jungs wohl am besten umschreiben. "So wie Ihr uns kennt!?" - nicht ganz! Langweilig können alle. Ein Mensch verbringt den ganzen Tag damit, eine Maschine zu bauen, nur damit sie ihn die ganze Nacht hindurch quält. Als ob das nicht schon verdreht genug wäre, gefällt es ihnen auch noch. Es gefällt ihnen sogar so gut, dass sie am Morgen verjüngt aufwachen und eifrig an der Maschine feilen, bis sie in ihrem Kopf perfekt läuft.
Dies ist die nächtliche Vision, die Cryptopsy zu ihrem neunten Album Nightmare inspiriert hat. "Hüte dich vor dem Scheinwerferlicht", warnt Sänger Matt McGachy, bevor "Dead Eyes Replete" mit einem schmerzerfüllten Breakdown vor deinen Augen aufblitzt. An Insatiable Violence spiegelt unsere toxische Beziehung zu den sozialen Medien wider, aber obwohl es unheimlich vorausschauend ist, ist das Album von den vielen Mutationen beeinflusst, die die Hall of Fame-Diskografie der Band geprägt haben. Inspiriert von einem Mukbang, der furchtbar schief gegangen ist, ist der gefräßige Opener "The Nimis Adoration" ein Sammelsurium an Blasts, Christian Donaldsons Fishhook-Riffs und einer kräftigen Portion Groove, der die Boxen zum Beben bringt.

Cryptopsy wissen, dass nicht jede brutale Technical-Death-Metal-Band lange genug durchhält, um nach 30 Jahren einen kanadischen Grammy zu gewinnen. Selbst Flo Mounier - der buchstäblich das Buch des extremen Metal-Drummings geschrieben hat - hat neue Techniken verfeinert, um die Blasphemie von An Insatiable Violence frisch zu halten. Reissue des Debütalbums der irischen Singer/Songwriterin Sorcha Richardson auf Powder Pink-Vinyl. Sorcha entwickelte sich von Schlagzeugerin zur Troubadourin. Die glänzende Produktion ihres Debüts "First Prize Bravery" (erschienen 2019 bei Faction Records), gepaart mit ehrlichem Storytelling, machten sie zum "Liebling von Dublin". Das Album ist mittlerweile wie ein edler Wein gereift, so dass Impressed Recordings sich veranlasst sah, es neu aufzulegen, aber nicht ohne die fantastische 2023er Single "Map Of Manhattan" als exklusiven Bonustrack erstmals auf Vinyl zu ergänzen.

Dummy is a rock band from Los Angeles comprised of Alex Ewell, Emma Maatman, Nathan O'Dell, and Joe Trainor. Their debut full-length "Mandatory Enjoyment" (Trouble in Mind) arrived in late 2021, becoming one of the year 's sleeper hits and garnering praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum, and more. Coming out of lockdown, the band spent two years touring in support of the record, and it is this transformational experience that pulses through "Free Energy ", the exhilarating follow-up to "Mandatory Enjoyment". A creatively restless band, Dummy (Ewell: drums, synths, bass; Maatman: vocals, synths, organ; O'Dell: vocals, guitar, organ; Trainor: guitar, bass, synths) wanted to get harder, dancier, more psychedelic for their next record. Pop music has always been a big part of Dummy's sound and it manifests in different ways all over Free Energy: the bubbly synth sequence made with a Korg EM1 popping all over "Nullspace," the revved-up drone-pop inspired by second and third wave Dunedin Sound bands like Look Blue Go Purple and Dadamah, and the motorik beat powering "Nine Clean Nails," perhaps the most confidently pop song Dummy has ever recorded and one that exemplifies "Free Energy "'s balancing of live performance intensity with electronic augmentations, the dancier rhythmic elements created out of a drum loop recorded by Ewell while the bridge recalls the Feelies with call-and-response guitars from O'Dell and expressive vocals from Maatman. Künstlerinnen (Mizi Lee, Seonha Park, Jerry Ahn, Yun Park, Lilian Gonzalez, Hanseo Oh) mit Migrationshintergrund im Mai 2022 in Stuttgart initiiert wurde. Dem Prinzip der horizontalen Übertragung folgend, übertragen sie dies auf u.a. Memes, Posts, Chats- oder K-Pop-Kulturen, die sich über Smartphones oder iPads verbreiten und suchen dabei nach einem experimentellen Weg, um mit Text, Musik und visuellen Elementen zu Mode, Infektion und Migration zu forschen. HGT hinterfragt nicht nur kulturelle Normen, sondern reagiert direkt auch auf Stereotypen oder rassistische Angriffe. Direkte Fragen werden gestellt, energetische Aussagen getroffen und Stimmungen eingeholt die mal aggressiv, mal entspannt oder mit einem Augenzwinkern dargeboten werden. The buzz about the Crystal Teardrop that has been growing for the past two years looks set to reach fever pitch with the release of their debut album _IS FORMING. Featuring a dozen memorable compositions by the bands Alexandra Rose and Leon Jones, the album more than lives up to the promise of their 2024 single releases and their ecstatic live performances on stages across the UK and Europe. The band formed in Stoke-on-Trent in early 2023, "inspired," explains Alexandra Rose, "by a mutual passion for the sights, sounds and creative experimentation of the late 1960s." In addition to Alexandra on lead vocals on guitar, the band comprises Leon Jones (guitar, sitar), Stuart Gray (keyboards, Mellotron), Ed Quigley (bass, vocals), and Huw Woodward (drums, percussion). Intuitively blending elements of garage rock, folk-rock, power pop and psychedelia, the band have created an appealing concoction infused with their own perspectives and personalities. To best capture their sound, they recorded at an all-analogue facility, Tilehouse studio in North London, working closely with White Stripes producer Liam Watson of Toe Rag Studios fame.

Horace Andy has always commanded a place high on the list of Reggae singers from Jamaica. His distinctive haunting vocal style stands strong on any rhythm,song or style he chooses to cover. Of the singers on that long list, he has managed more so than any other, to crossover to a new generation of listeners due to his individual style, helped also by his collaborations with the likes of Massive Attack. Horace Andy (b. Horace Hinds,1951,Kingston Jamaica) like many otherJamaican singers began his musical career at Coxsonne Dodd's Studio One. So impressed with the youth, Coxsonne decided on a name change for theyoung artist and called him after his top songwriter of the time Bob Andy. So Horace Hinds became Horace Andy. His first tune for Coxsonne 'Something On My Mind' was a slow burner in Jamaica, but his belief in his young protégé paid off when followed later by 'Skylarking' a tune that burst the singer all overthe radio and sound systems of Jamaica. After numerous singles and two albums worth of material, Horace moved on to work with many of the topflight Jamaican producers, among them Keith Hudson, Augustus Pablo and Niney the Observer, but it was his work with producer Bunny Lee in the 70's that he cut most of his hits for and from this stable of work, that we have compiled this set. Some of his late 60's classics were recut in the popular1970's style, working with the rhythm kings themselves, Sly Dunbar andRobbie Shakespeare. They have added some shine to the tracks, 'SomethingOn My Mind' and 'Skylarking' and made them hits all over again. Such wasHorace's delivery to the covers he sang like Delroy Wilson's version of theTams 'Riding For A Fall', the Heptones 'My Guiding Star', John Holts'Man Next Door' and Bill Wither's 'Ain't No Sunshine', that these finetunes were made his own. The roots end of his musical style was covered by
Andy originals such as 'You Are My Angel', 'Zion Gate','Money Money'and the cut which we have taken our edited title, the timeless 'Just SayWho'.A bass heavy cut to Bob Marley's 'Natural Mystic' works so well inthis style also. Another nickname Horace acquired was the affectionate title of Sleepy, as he was always hanging around the yards and studios of Jamaica waiting his turn, sometimes so long he would fall asleep. His enthusiasm to get back in the studio to work some more of his magic, to a catalogue of material that has developed into one of the finest in Jamaica. I hope you will agree, this fine set of 1970's classics will sit alongside.
