Irgendwo zwischen Pegida und Hansa-Studio, Odyssee und Husumer Watt, Konzeptkunst und one, two, three four erzählen Turbostaat hier ein modernes Märchen. Ähnlichkeiten mit lebenden Personen und dem real existierenden grauen deutschen Herbst: explizit erwünscht. Natürlich haben Turbostaat auch bereits in der Vergangenheit das klassische Punkrock-Format gesprengt. Laufzeiten über fünf Minuten sind bei ihnen keine Seltenheit. Die Konsequenz aber, mit der auf "Abalonia" Erzählung und Musik zu einem stringenten Ganzen zusammenfinden, ist für diese Band eine Premiere. "Nachdem die Geschichte grob stand, wollten wir auch musikalisch die Popformel mit dem Standardaufbau aus Strophe, Bridge, Refrain aufbrechen, um den weiter gespannteren Texten eine musikalische Entsprechung zu verleihen", sagt Marten Ebsen, Gitarrist und Songschreiber der Band. Aufgenommen wurde "Abalonia" nach anderthalbjähriger Vorbereitung in nur fünf Tagen an historischer Stelle: Der Turbostaat-Stammproduzent Moses Schneider buchte das Berliner Hansa Studio, wo er einst sein Handwerk gelernt hatte. Erased Tapes artists and friends Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm have separately carved out a musical career that defies genres both with their unique live shows and a loyal fan base that's always eager to hear what their prolific output will bring.

Their latest collaborative 2-track release 'Life Story Love and Glory' is a live improv affair on two pianos, recorded in 2012 at Nils's Durton Studio in Berlin. Fans may wonder why they have waited until 2015 to release these tracks, but having revealed a new website you may think this may not be the end to their musical story this year.

We would meet in Reykjavik or Berlin with the intention to share some days off work, hiking, swimming or eating pizza. That is great for a couple days, but after a while we would always end up back in the studio, fiddling with synths or pianos.' - Nils Frahm.

'Life Story Love and Glory' will be released as a 7' on Erased Tapes - exclusively through record stores only on August 21, 2015 ahead of its digital release later on - as an ode to this classic and beloved format.

Miami ex-patriate Alexander Suàrez debuts on Unknown Precept with A Los Mártires. Conceived as an ode to those who spilt their blood in vane for political ideologies that failed them and countries that were never their homes, the five tracks that make up the release show the Brooklyn-based producer sinking into odd techno hybrids manipulation; shooting down unrestrained grooves and rusty samples while excavating lush sound exploration tinged by local folklore and grievous metallic tones. In his own words, Suárez discloses that the embodiment of this strange intermingling sound like an organic and humming invitation to an uninhibited meditation on our inevitable assimilation into modern industrial society; an overarching rhythmic theme built on the idea that the resistance to and the seduction of these systems might trap us in a push and pull limbo from which the only escape is rage or submission.

To anyone with even a passing interest in the weirder end of good-time party-ready house music, Freaks should need little introduction. Luke Solomon and Justin Harris have been keeping our preferred kind of dancefloor vibrating to the cheekiest manifestations of house music since the mid- 90s, never letting up and moving in the same oscillations as the good ship Circus Company. From first emerging on Phono through to setting up their Music For Freaks label, stopping by Playhouse, Wash House and Rebirth amongst countless other labels along the way, the UK duo have constantly given the traditions of house music a tickle in the ribs without losing that fundamental funk that makes a record great to dance to. We were thrilled to welcome Luke and Justin to remix Dave Aju's 'Nu Threads' at the end of last year, and now we follow up on that connection with a special EP of gems from the extensive Freaks archives. On 'Shrunken Heads (One Pro Mix)' the rock solid foundations of filter house music collide with flamboyant synth noodlings for a truly cosmic end result, while 'Absolut Zero' finds solace in a slower, deeper groove peppered with oddball effects tweaking and disembodied vocal samples. Heading further into loose-fit, slippery territory, 'Funk You (Who Do You Trust Dub)' lets soulful sample licks wriggle and writhe through a decidedly laid-back atmosphere that shows off the range Freaks have always sported in their output since day one. In many ways this coming together of Circus Company and Freaks feels like a logical development for two bastions of the oddball house music community, not to mention a great opportunity to hear tracks that otherwise might never have seen the light of day.

Up and coming producer, Odd/Even label boss and close Stockholm Ltd affiliate Andre Kronert arrives on Figure with an astounding 3 track EP, completed by a deadly Len Faki Dub. Kronert has risen through the ranks yet stayed true to his reduced, warm and powerful sound strategy. The opening track G.I.A.N.T makes for a wonderfully tense opener, with its expansive dark sound design and deep dub kick arriving around the half-way point. This is countersigned then by two more energetic tracks in the shape of The Throne Room and Fallen Space, both pivoting over a fulcrum of classic synth hooks and carefully honed percussion. Len Faki takes The Throne Room into a different mental zone, with his almost tropical Dub version, ensnaring a freaky pitched motif to accent and build upon Andre s powerful original elements. These were the final words of the sales notes for Praise Poems Volume 1 - which we proudly released earlier this year. And indeed, since then, we have discovered a tune which led us to continue to curate this series of obscure, soulful, jazzy and spiritual sounds from back in the day. The song to which we refer to is Abraham Battat's jazz-samba masterpiece, Fly Away. Fly Away is a righteous combination of sonorous jazz guitar, crackling drums and warm acoustic piano. Floating through the tones as if in a private concert for you in your very living room, it is an earnest, honest vocal performance bringing a rainbow message of freedom and liberty to the world. This is the standard by which we judged the entirety of this compilation. Though they may be known in some circles, selections by Richard Martian, Larry Covin, and The Gingerbread Express are in the same category of pure beauty. Of course, good luck finding a copy of Larry Covin's Masquerade or the Portis Brothers' Summer Love. The single hit you receive while doing an online search is the exact same copy from which we took the master. To find a needle in a haystack is a cakewalk compared to turning up a copy of some of these gems to be found here.

Bound Adam' is the first in a series of reissues by American artist Elysia Crampton (f.k.a. E&E) for Total Stasis record label. Originally self-released in 2011 as digital files, this is its first vinyl pressing. Its three tracks are an ode to the artist's Ford Ranger. 2011 is also the year Ford discontinued the Ranger line. As Crampton says, "it is a speculative/ontological poem about a relationship with a car."

Geneve Based Pascal Viscardi bring his rich and sweltering textures to SAFT with his first EP for the Spanish label. The swiss producer's Paradiso EP is already the 9th installment and by no means an odd addition to the family. Strongly rooted in soulful sounds with firm aesthetics and blissful melodies, this release is exactly what SAFT is all about. From the moment the pad in the title track starts riding, Paradiso immediately hints to a deserted paradise.
Tales From The Emax (A2) is a groove laden Anthem that will soothe those that are into soulful but firm sounds. On the B side, we find remix work of both originals. Swiss house stalwart 'Agnes' stirs things up with his thriving rework of Paradiso called 'Agnes' La Charme Chambertin Mixx'. On the B2 cut we find SAFT familiar 'Jefferson Belmondo' with a cracking rework of the title track 'Paradiso' called Jefferson's Beach Mix. 4 strong, groove-laden cuts that celebrate the SAFT sound like never before.

Drum Island unveil their tenth release with an extraordinary EP from Norway's Klaus Lunde.

From Norway's oldest city Tonsberg comes the stargazing sounds of Klaus Lunde: an acclaimed and prolific electronic music composer, his array of releases under the Xerxes Music pseudonym explore a unique take on ambience and tonal electronica that's a mesmerising and accomplished body of work to be sure.

This, undoubtedly many people's first introduction to his work, is a perfectly pitched collection that highlights the familiar themes of the Xerxes work, but fits easily into the Drum Island blueprint of music for the midnight sun. On the Exerxes EP, we're treated to pulsating Balearic trance and zero gravity house before gliding into relaxed ambience, soothing New Age and horizontal night music.
We then dive further into the psychedelic ocean hidden below with truly tripped out Kosmiche vignettes of warping and spine-tingling odd-pop.
