Klute, a.k.a. Tom Withers is no stranger to the LP format, Whatever It Takes is his 9th solo album. It was recorded over a period of 18 months in his own PBJ Studio, located in Suffolk.

Whatever It Takes contains Klute's signature blend of Drum & Bass, Hardcore, Jungle, House, Techno, Electro & Ambient stitched together with Klute' typical disregard for the rules of each genre.

Split into two halves, the album begins in high gear with 8 tracks of Drum & Bass. A rich pallet of D&B styles delicately layered with hidden depths and melancholic harmony. The album then shifts into Klute's own brand of House Techno & Electro, fully revealing his vivid tapestry of musical influences. The end result is highly original, individual and unique. Nobody sounds like Klute.

Klute on the album: "...with so much going on in the world and all the noise created by a growing instant culture I felt compelled to retreat into my own imagination and write individual chapters in melody and rhythm as a form of distraction and personal remedy. Early on in the process I made a conscious decision to make a wholly solo and instrumental record - the first time since my debut album CASUAL BODIES in 1998".
"There's something powerful in the mystique and imagination of music, closing your eyes and letting your mind and body loose to create its own visions. I feel that there is a lot of "surface" music around at the moment that physically dictates what you are supposed to feel. The music I love the most, the music that stays with me the longest is always the stuff that enters my subconscious state."

Facts on Klute: Over the past 25 years Klute has established himself as a leader not just in the world of Drum & Bass but the entire Electronic music spectrum, counting a diverse range of luminaries amongst his fans, including the likes of Goldie, Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Mary Ann Hobbs, Doc Scott, Lee Burridge, Zane Lowe, Nastia, Andrew Weatherall, BT, and the sadly passed Marcus Intalex, David Bowie and late great John Peel.

Klute continues to tour the world as both an in demand DJ and drummer and singer in his hardcore band The Stupids.

The B2 (Endorlori) made me think of Black Lung on Depopulation Bomb.
Finally it was of course totally different... but this reminder, kind of nostalgia, with kind of technoïd verses had to exists on wax. For me as a DJ ^^ krkrkrk
I strongly Believe SPERED had something special as a musician.. his style... digging in the past as well as in the future, like with the super slow Mandragore A2...

The involved artists really delievered some special treats for Noir Music and I am so happy with the end results for this release. Dutch Techno master Orlando Voorn has opened up his archive for the first of what will be an ongoing artist focused series brought to you by Above Board Projects. The compilation will be spread across 2 double 12" volumes and will feature tracks from many of Voorn's pseudonyms including; Fix, Baruka, The Ghetto Brothers, Mute & many more. With this initial release we are proud to introduce the lead-in sampler 12" for Voorn's forthcoming 2-part archival collection entitled 'Diligence'. Each track has been carefully selected and programmed in conjunction with Orlando Voorn and this 12" even features the unreleased and previously unheard gothic 1992 techno masterpiece 'DX Me Silly' which was very kindly excavated from the DAT archive specifically for this project. The 12" also features the classic sounds of Fix's 'Life Beyond The Clouds' featuring Detroit legend Blake Baxter. Orlando Voorn's association with Detroit has been long running since day one and some of the music contained within this compilation celebrates that while showcasing some of the more overlooked tracks from the man's more than extensive catalogue. Continuing the pursuit of making KAOS and essential label for the contemporary disc-jockey I opened the spectrum a little more with some newcomers on the label and a pioneering veteran.

Mighty D.Dan provides the direct Techno drive. I issue one of the biggest hits of Milimetric which never came on vinyl (I'm really looking forward to play this). On the Flip Copenhagen's prodigal son and already well known for being trained to the floor by the KAOS followers, Schacke, delivers one of the freakiest tunes I've ever come across with. Hadone closes with his standard signature 140 rolling extatic melancholia.

4 songs that could definitely fit in an story-telling kind of set or in the most chaotic. A lot of chaos, I know.

Noir Music is back with their sub-label NM2 focusing on Melodic House & Techno.

The word masterpiece gets bandied about a lot. Not least by us. But here is a release that truly befits such a lofty title.

In 1980, Randy Muller’s Skyy dropped the monumental “Here’s To You”, comfortably one of the greatest dance singles of all time. Released on Salsoul, “Here’s To You” is now exceptionally hard to find in its original form. On this special Be With double-header, we present the sought-after 12" mix and back it up with the strutting “You Got Me Up”, which has never been on a 12" before.

Naturally, both are cut loud and bumping for devastating dance floor power.

A sure-fire classic of the NYC club scene and a true block party rocker, “Here’s To You” beautifully combines sweeping synth-strings, loose cymbal hits and swaggering lyrics delivered with enviable style. But the real hero is *that* bassline. Oh, wait, no, actually, it’s *that* synth refrain halfway through. Harnessing the Oberheim Matrix 12 to emulate a horn section has provided goosebumps on discerning dance floors ever since.

As Muller expressed in his 2007 Red Bull Music Academy lecture, “It’s a very special record, it’s positive and has that spontaneous, life-giving spirit in the groove. Everything locks, just pure chemistry.”

Like we said, it’s a masterpiece.

If that wasn’t enough, over on the B-side is “You Got Me Up”, a real hidden gem from Skyy’s Skyway LP. Also released in 1980, the track is a wonderful showcase of the group’s airtight rhythm section and Muller’s uncanny ear for a groove and a melody.

Discovered, curated and managed by Exos, Planet X is the latest discovery in our solar system. Little is known about this mystical planet other than that it radiates sound waves on the rougher side of the galactic spectrum. This first release comes from Exos himself where he fuses together old and new material with remixes from his astro pals, Ben Sims and Antigone. The release takes off with an old 90’s Exos track which is then warped and mixed by Ben Sims in his signature hardgroove style. Next in orbit is Bingo, a brand new track for interstellar clubbing that sounds like a country theme where Exos sampled a live guitar from his father’s rock band. The outcome is a dark and raw mixture of a 909 beat with a dark space cowboy riff from the blackest hole of our galaxy. The Antigone remix takes us near the event horizon where there is absolute chaos between dimensions.
The second release from Planet X will launch off next autumn with fellow space cadet Lafontaine on a 4 track storming missile and signs off with a nuclear remix by the one and only Matrixxman.

For the inauguration of the label, Disconnekt brings you a fine selection of artists that have played in the event series based in Berlin. Trying to catch a specific moment of those nights, each one of them from a different artist, each one of them with a different sound, this VA compilation features well-established techno producers Wrong Assessment, Rommek, Fabrizio Lapiana and Deepbass.

The A-side represents the darker and harder side of the Disconnekt nights, with Wrong Assessment delivering an up-front dance floor killer, and Rommek evoking the feeling of self-immersion inside an evolving, but aggressive synth-line driven by a hard hitting groove.

The B-side, on the other hand, brings a more melodic and hypnotic side. Fabrizio Lapiana and Deepbass both bring to the record their signature sound, with their own characteristic voice.

This project also sees a new design concept for the imprint from London's David Surman's painting installation project 'Paintings For The Cat Dimension' which ''explores the motif of the cat as emblematic of internet aesthetics, a place where all painting styles and modes now exist non-hierarchically as pure information.''

From the mists of 1989 comes The Landlord with this monolithic slab of rave history - 'I Like It'. Instantly recognisable, those widely sampled piano stabs, that bassline.... it's all there. Produced by Canadian super-producer and Big Shot Records label owner Nick Fiorucci this much sought after rave anthem was highly prized and coveted by those in the know back in the day, no-one had any idea as to how huge the record would become as it soundtracked every dancefloor, warehouse, field and loft from '89 onwards, this is it, the real deal! Enter: The Maghreban. One of R&S Records contemporary artists and an unashamed Hardcore / Jungle / Breakbeat enthusiast, he seemed like the perfect remixer. Maghreban's mix is respective of the roots and the legacy of 'I Like It', referencing some of it's later sampled incarnations in a clever and knowing way, a true DJ tool that has been road-tested and checked in clubs across Europe and beyond, his epic 'Revenge Remix' shows a deep understanding of the history of these particular records and how they work on the dancefloor. Kastil and I-Real have been releasing joint efforts since 2014. The occasional duo have perfected the boisterous techno they hold dear, and showcase their new approach on the gloomy 'Black Birds All Over' and the audacious sounding 'Skandha'.

'Black Birds All Over' is a lurid sounding effort that revolves around a monotonous roar and skillfully places drums and fx sounds that cut across the spectrum like daggers. Canadian duo Orphx delivers an enigmatic version of 'Black Birds All Over' that uses far-away pads to generate a more uncanny mood.

Some time around 20 years ago, the artist known as Dub Surgeon made an absorbing album of beautiful dub infused with ambiance, found sounds and horizontal rhythms. The Lost Future was recorded at the former Amsterdam Film Academy where Dub Surgeon. The recording engineer for the project was Ricardo Villalobos. Dub surgeon and Ricardo Villalobos then mastered it together, putting it through several vintage mixers and recording it to 2 inch tape. Then, tragedy struck: a storm surged and ignited a fire that ravaged the studio. The master copy was thought to have been lost forever. Dub Surgeon stopped making music and disappeared into the shadows after just two EPs on Future Dub in 2002/3. But one day 15 years later, totally out of the blue, he received a demo of The Lost Future. "Pay attention to this," it said. Attached was a demo version of the long lost album and now, finally, it has a perfect and impossibly poetic home on Dubai's Ark to Ashes, which is named in homage to the story of Lee "Scratch" Perry burning down his Black Ark studio to rid it of demons. Sounding as fresh as ever, The Lost Future is an authentic dub experience with a story as special as the music itself

For fans of Dopplereffekt, Drexciya, Keith Tucker, Mid-West Electro A highly sought after EP equally blowing your mind and the floor. Cron is a project where Todd Sines focused on his long-running passion for electro music by exploring a specific set of machines composed of a Synton Vocoder SPX216, a Yamaha DX 100 and an Arp Avatar in a vibe completely different from his .xtrak alias or productions released under his own name.

The record visual presentation was equally important as it features 3-D objects created Todd Sines through intentional misuse of mathematical functions, creating unique forms and 'scalable architectures'.

Trentemøller's debut album remains one of the few genre-defining and groundbreaking albums in many regards. It's still being praised for its composition and sounddesign alike and sounds as fresh and breathtaking today as it did when it was originally released in 2006.
The Last Resort - a beautifully crafted, astonishing masterpiece, that will leave you breathless. The 13 instrumental tracks together form a wordless musical story, almost like the soundtrack of a movie. It
manages to capture a whole range of emotions in subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy ambiences, dusty beats, deep dub-tracks and driving groove-excursions. An ever-changing kaleidoscope of colours and moods. Although it's an electronic album, it also incorporates live-drums, guitars, bass and other acoustic instruments like celesta, glockenspiel, melodica and even DJ scratching to create a more organic feel. The album received fantastic acclaim from both music fans and journalists around the world and made it into the top-lists of the month, the year, the decade - alongside an array of awards for best production or best album.

Back in 2006, the original pressing only included a selection of songs from the original 13-track album release. It missed out on songs which had been released on singles or didn't "fit" on the so called "vinyl edition". Due to 'public demand' and simply because this album deserves a proper vinyl release we are happy to finally present, for the first time, the full album on vinyl. It spans of three vinyl discs and is packed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve which also holds a download-code. The recut has been carefully crafted from first generation, orignal masters by Calyx in Berlin. Since the album has been praised for its fantastic sound the primary directive was to cut the lacquers for the re-issue so that they would sound exactly the same as the original release, which has been the CD version of the album. No 'digital remastering' or any other alterations have been applied.
