Afro National - African Experimentals (1972-1979)

The Afro National Band Was Formed In Freetown, Sierra Leone In 1972. Their Inspirational Leader, Sulay Abu Bakarr Accompanied By His Wife Patricia And Ayo Roy Macauley Split From The Sabanoh Jazz Band To Form Their New Group. They Skillfully Merged Highlife And Jazz Sounds With A Deep Knowledge Of West African Sounds. Growing To Become One Of The Premiere Bands To Emerge From Sierra Leone They Not Only Defined The Sound Of The Country For A Generation But Also Crafted Some Of The Country's Most Popular And Memorable Songs (for Example Sonjo Which Is Included On This Collection).

The Band Toured Extensively Throughout Africa And Europe In The 70s (working With The Giant Of Sierra Leone Music Akie Deen In The Process). Towards The End Of The 70s The Band Departed Sierra Leone, Sulay And His Wife Moving To Maryland In The Us And Other Members Moving To London.

Our Collection Focuses On Possibly Not The Best Known Songs Of The Band But The Tracks Which Have The Rhythms To Move The Dance Floor. We Open With The Foot Tapping "jokenge" And Its Driving Shuffle Beat, Swirling Organ And Percussive Guitar Lines. "push Am Forward" Takes A Afro-psychadelic Turn With Its Hypnotic Rhythms And Driving Distorted Guitar. "mr Who You Be" Is A Cover Of The Fela Kuti Track, Doing It Fine Justice. "gowa" Highlights The Vocal Prowess Of The Band, As Dose The Ever Popular "sonjo" (the Version Featured Here Is A Rare Alternate Recording).

"money Palava" Opens Up Side Two With Its Infectious Highlife Beat And Hooky Vocals. "money Nor Bataya" Highlights The Bands First Use Of Synthesizers. "mother In Law" Sweeps Up Back To Free Town 1973 With Its Clever Vocal. "set My Soul On Fire" Is A Bonus Track Which Brings In The International Flavour Of The Band.

The Afro National Band Continues In Various Guises To This Day, With Sulay And Patricia Acting As The Proud And Talismanic Figures For A Whole Generation Of Sierra Leonean Music.

Golden Hours - Golden Hours LP

Based between Brussels and Berlin, Golden Hours is comprised of past and present members of Gang Of Four, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Tricky, The Fuzztones and The Third Sound, to name just a few. A band with mileage and stories, they trade in rock’n’roll missives that are at times dark, tense and hypnotic, at others sweaty, relentless and danceable. Made up of Hákon Adalsteinsson (Guitar/Vocals), Rodrigo Fuentealba Palavacino (Guitar), Tobias Humble (Drums/Vocals) and Wim Janssens (Bass/Keys/Vocals), Golden Hours’ self-titled debut album is due for release March 31st 2023 on Fuzz Club Records. Wim says of the project and its incoming debut: “The musical backgrounds of each member are pretty broad but somehow when we come together there’s a pretty clear definition of what our music should sound like. There’s a beautiful friction between the noise we produce and the love for melody that seems to overtake at just the right moment. There never seems to be a lack of ideas when we come together. In silent agreement, every idea gets tried and will be further developed into a song or skipped in a heartbeat. No time is wasted. It all happens pretty automatically

Various - Compilation 003 - Bon Entendeur Records

Between the shows of their international tour "Transatlantic Tour" and the studio sessions for their third album, the duo Bon Entendeur continues their sonic journey in search of new musical concepts, like the Decade Mixtape released last January: a one-hour dive into the music and historical facts that marked the 70s.

Their label BE Records is also an illustration of this. Each year, the duo unearths up-and-coming nuggets and brings them together in an annual compilation of 12 unreleased tracks. The first two releases were a great success: more than 2,000 vinyls sold and nearly 6 million listens on the platforms.

The third compilation will bring together all of Bon Entendeur's favourites, with a focus on many new French pop releases.

A true gem of French animated cinema, Sylvain Chomet's Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003) left a lasting impression with its quirky universe, tender humor, and unforgettable musical score.

Composed by Benoît Charest, this cult soundtrack blends retro swing, gypsy jazz, ramshackle brass bands, and cycling rhythms to create a unique atmosphere that is both nostalgic and fiercely modern.

This vinyl edition finally celebrates the soundscape of Belleville as it deserves to be celebrated: unusual percussion instruments made from bicycle parts, mischievous orchestrations, and the playful voice of the cult song “Belleville Rendez-vous,” performed by M - Matthieu Chedid in its French version.

Carefully remastered for analog format, the record captures all the warmth and vitality of this timeless music, a vibrant tribute to the creativity and audacity of the film.

A must-have for lovers of cinema, jazz, and beautiful vinyl editions.
