This record is a true representation of the city — Stacy’s deep approach to house music and Peven’s unmistakable voice up front. How Bad I Want Ya has been around for a while now, one of those records that stayed in bags and never really disappeared. It’s a proper slice of deep house with a vocal that stays in your head.

The original keeps things direct and deep. No excess, just a track that does what it needs to do on the floor.

On the B side, Glenn Underground steps in with the Peak True Time Mix, stretching things out and adds some percussion and an infectious bassline. It’s a proper GU remix — longer and patient, while keeping that Chicago swing intact.

A defining moment in dance music history was the day that Roy Davis Jr. teamed with vocalist and writer Peven Everett in 1997 to create this deep, ethereal, soul-music gem that helped launch an entire musical movement known affectionately as Speed Garage. The "Live Garage" mix is the most popular but the other mixes have grown in popularity over time. It is hard to believe that this record is almost 20 years old yet it still sounds as fresh today as it did so long ago. 'Stronger' sees legendary House and Soul vocalist Peven Everett team up with antipodean beat wizard and rising star Inkswel for this soulful, genre bending single. Peven known for classic vocal house anthems, underground neo soul full lengths, and works with the likes of pop luminaries the Gorillaz.

Inkswel the prolific producer known for Hip Hop to experimental club musings with an extensive list of collaborators from Moodymann to Talib Kweli, Crazy P to Amp Fiddler.

The pair blend harmoniously on 'Stronger'. Inkswel's main Boogie Mix centers around heavy gated drums, prince esque basslines and lofty pads whilst his rework with long time collaborator Leonard Charles takes things into Broken Beat leanings reminiscent of 2000 Black, Bugz In the Attic and IG Culture . The single gets the remix treatment from legendary NYC producer- DJ Spinna with his Intergalactic soul rework and then a genre bending polish from up and coming Aussie House and Techno producer Ed Temple.

Chicago's Peven Everett has long had a cult following for his own unique, live take on House music. The co-producer and vocalist of Gabriel, which was not only one of the most legendary soulful house tracks of the 90’s but also helped define the two step/garage sound. In 2002 he released 'I Can't Believe I Loved Her' on King Street Sounds offshoot label, Nite Grooves, a soulful piece lamenting a love that went wrong. The track was a worldwide hit and quickly earned itself classic status amongst DJ’s and dancers alike. Both the Original and Calypso Mix are featured on this special charity reissue with all proceeds from this release being donated to Peven’s GoFundMe to help with his lung cancer treatment. Auckland. Musicians from the tightly knit local scene swung through to contribute to the recording, including fellow Soundway act Julien Dyne on drums, as well as saxophonist Nathan Haines.

The self-titled album draws from the band’s wide-ranging taste, as well as what they’ve been playing in order to keep spirits up. Channelling classic emotive house, to disco, Afro and jazz funk on their debut album, Flamingo Pier cite a wide range of musical influences such as Khruangbin, Roisin Murphy, Peven Everett, house legends Masters at Work and Brazilian artist Tim Maia. This translates into an uplifting but nostalgic current running throughout the album - reflecting on last chances, soul-searching and longing for the carefree days of the dance floor.
