By the close of the Sixties, record retailer and jukebox businessman Karl ‘J.J.’ Johnson was firmly established as one of Jamaica’s leading record producers, having released a string of best-selling rock steady and proto-reggae 45s by such noted local acts as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, the Rulers, Carl Dawkins, the Kingstonians and the Ethiopians. Early in 1969, Trojan Records released an album containing a dozen of Johnson’s latest recordings in the new reggae style. Entitled Reggae Power, the LP was dominated by regular hit-makers the Ethiopians.

Reggae Power is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange coloured vinyl.

Killer rendition of the classic Led Zeppelin stomp, arranged by famous dj & producer Massimo Barsotti. Programmed by none other than Maurizo Dami aka Alexander Robotnick, this robotic version is delivered with alien vocals and cold as ice synth lines. Still a favorite for many international djs.

Tiptoes makes a welcome return to SlothBoogie Records with a fresh four-track EP, entitled ‘The Akai Samurai Strikes Again’.

Glasgow’s Tiptoes has long been a respected name in the Scottish electronic music circuit, bringing his eclectic style to the table as a DJ, blending everything from jazz to jungle, house to techno, garage, broken beat and many more genres. His productions are a nod to his many influences and once again with this EP were treated to an amalgamation of sounds.

‘Techno Woo’ leads the way and see Tiptoes embracing a filter house feel, merging a number of choppy funk licks, vocal chants, and bass lines in an ever-unfolding dynamic matter, while dusty drums carry the bouncy groove throughout. ‘Brotherman’ then tips the focus on to soul drenched guitar lines, brass melodies, snaking bass grooves and hypnotic vocal lines alongside loose, swinging percussion.

Opening the flip side is ‘Mars Landings’, embracing a deeper house aesthetic courtesy of hazy Rhodes chords, swelling vocal loops and organic drums before ‘Strings’ rounds things out, as the name would suggest the composition is built around expansive string melodies, gritty bass stabs and sturdy, thunderous drums.

Im April hat sie beispielsweise ihr Coachella-Debüt in Kalifornien, aber begonnen hat ihr Jahr mit dem Podcast für die Kolleginnen und Kollegen von Resident Advisor, der mit ihrer großartigen neuen Single - It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)' endet und ihrer kommenden EP - Once' entnommen ist, die am 2. März 2018 via Ninja Tune erscheint. Geschmeidig, unmittelbar tanzbar und eingängig in seiner Einfachheit, hat Peggys charakteristischer Produktionsstil das nächste Level erreicht, mit dem sie die Single nicht nur selbst komponiert, sondern zum ersten Mal auch selbst eingesungen hat. Die in Südkorea geborene und in Berlin wohnhafte Peggy Gou hat sich mit einer Handvoll Knaller-12' bei Labels wie Rekids und Phonica White, sowie mit ihrer 2016er - Seek For Maktoop'-EP über das Ninja Tune-Sublabel Technicolour einen starken Namen in der Szene erarbeitet und ist quasi zu dem gegenwärtigen DJ-Postergirl schlechthin avanciert. Die Kombination aus ihren zutiefst Groove-geleiteten eigenen Produktionen und ihrer Leidenschaft für das DJ-Pult, das sie Woche für Woche auf der ganzen Welt aufs Neue besteigt - von Glastonbury zur Panorama Bar, De Schoon, DC-10 und dem Dekmantel Festival - hat ihre Fanzahl in kürzester Zeit auf ein Vielfaches anschwellen lassen.

'A Winged Victory For The Sullen' is the first installment of the new collaboration between Stars Of The Lid member Adam Wiltzie and L.A. composer Dustin O'Halloran. The duo agreed to leave the comfort zone of their home studios and develop the recordings with the help of large acoustic spaces, hunting down a selection of 9ft grand pianos that had the ability to deliver extreme sonic low end.

Other traditional instrumentation was used including string quartet, French horn, and bassoon, but always juxtaposed is the sound of drifting guitar washed melodies. The recordings began with one late night session in the famed Grunewald Church in Berlin on a 1950's imperial B?sendorfer piano and strings were added in the historic East Berlin DDR radio studios along the River Spree. One last session on a handmade Fazioli piano in a private studio on the Northern cusp of Italy, before the final mixes took place in a 17th century villa near Ferrara with the assistance of Francesco Donadello. All songs were then processed completely analogue straight to magnetic tape.

Their secret to harvesting new melodic structures from the thin air of existence was for the duo to push themselves to dangerous territory, realising that clear thinking at the wrong moment could stifle the compositions. The final result is seven landscapes of harmonic ingemination. In 'Requiem For The Static King Part One' ? created in memory of the untimely passing of Mark Linkous ? they have taken the age-old idea of a string quartet and then shot it out of a cannon to reveal exquisite new levels of sonic bliss.

Of the 13 minute track 'Symphony Path?tique', Wiltzie says 'after almost 20 years of struggling to create interesting ambient drone music, I feel like I have finally figured out what I am doing'. Notable guest musicians include Icelandic cellist Hildur Gudnadottir, as well as Erased Tapes label comrade Peter Broderick on violin. Our A side, “Keep on Running”, is an uplifting vocal groove written by Mr. Stevie Wonder, delivered by F.B.I. Awesome: a heavy so groove, driving vocals, and a funky clav groove makes this a perfect vibe and an essential track.
On the flip is our part two version, a breakdown from the original master tape, giving a moving and up-tempo feel; a supreme funky instrumental cut, edited. Heavy groove, including a massive DJ drum break.

Rich Aucoin is announcing his next album entitled Synthetic - The record is a rare Quadruple Album with its 4 seasons/LPs being staggered in 6 month intervals over the next 2 years

The album, which began at The National Music Centre in Calgary, Alberta in March 2020, houses one of the world's most extensive collections of rare and historic synthesizers. There, Aucoin was doing the Artist In Residence program and recorded 51 synthesizers to begin the project. The project was paused with the start of the pandemic and Aucoin shifted back into film scoring and worked
on the critically- acclaimed and short- listed New Yorker - Films of the Year documentary, No Ordinary Man, about the trans- masculine jazz musician Billy Tipton.This record is a good demonstration of Aucoin's scoring potential as well as it's a quadruple instrumental album; a huge contrast to United States, Aucoin's previous, and most vocal heavy album to date. Lyrics just take me so long to write that I just want to take a couple years to make other kinds of albums before going back to lyrical music as I can write instrumental music much faster. This first fulllength features Aucoin as the solo musician playing some 37 synthesizers including: Arp 2600s, the Supertramp owned Elka Rhapsody 610 String Machine, Formanta Polivoks, Novatron T550, Oxford Synthesizer Company Oscar, Selmer Clavioline CM 8 and the legendary TONTO which the first release off the record
was made on.

One of those tracks you simply can't forget - perhaps because it's a hard one to put in any specific genre category - laying somewhere in between the realms of synth pop and italo disco with hints of even new beat, this Austrian diggers delight has been haunting Discogs want-lists for years. Aesthetically smooth and sexy (as it shares chord changes with non other than “Careless Whisper”) but with accents of less orthodox production techniques in the “Wunderbar” mix emphasize a uniquely charming playfulness. Perc Trax's scene leading Forever series returns for its third instalment. Taking a more curated approach to your typical 'release 30 random tracks and see what sticks' approach of most VA projects, the Forever series keeps the track count tight and the quality control even tighter. Featuring four artists new to Perc Trax plus new material from label regulars Perc and EAS, Forever 3 is essential as a summary of where both Perc Trax and the wider techno scene are at right now.

Opening up proceedings is Somniac One, making her Perc Trax debut after well received releases on RAW, Ghostly International, PRSPCT and her own newly launched Somniverse label. 'Junkyard Shift' is everything you'd expect from Somniac One on Perc Trax, huge kicks, hardcore synths and just the right amount of dance floor drama. Next up another Perc Trax Exos debutant, well known for his releases on Trip, Symbolism, Force Inc and more serves up something from the rougher extremes of his musical range with 'Warlion' a 4/4 stomper relying on swooping synths to drive the track forward.

On the B-side Perc collaborates with new Perc Trax signing Million on 'Rotopod'. Working together for the first time the newcomer influence pushes Perc's sound to a faster, more aggressive place. Closing the vinyl is 'Ryu Acid' by Perc Trax regular EAS, an acid fuelled monster that has been a highlight of Perc's sets for over a year now.
