Albert van Abbe & Jochem Paap join forces for General Audio.

Recorded at Willem Twee studios in Den Bosch, General Audio explores a unique and esoteric approach to sound creation. Using test and measure equipment from the 1950’s, originally designed for the maintenance of various audio and radio transmitters, van Abbe and Paap create otherworldly walls of sound and dense rhythmic abstractions with an early form of synthesis. Rudimentary signals are combined and processed before being committed to tape via mic’s set up to capture the Willem Twee studio’s unique acoustics. The equipment itself predates the invention of the analog, modular synthesizers developed in the 70’s that are now commonplace in many studios.

The record opens with 220Lock-in, a gently undulating drone composition. Effervescent at the top end and fathoms deep at the bottom, it shifts ominously with ring modulated tones that build and then give way to thick washes of white noise. A single synth flourish provides a surprising final moment. The record continues with WZ-1Wobbel Zusatz, a low-sunk percussive piece with an off-kilter rhythm and wet spring reverb doing the bulk of the sonic heavy lifting. Deep in the mix, delicate shifts in pitch and tone deliver a kind of arcane musicality, and as the recording approaches its final moments the piece descends into an exhilarating chaos, with sonic components falling slowly by the wayside. Pegelmesser riffs on a similar reverb characteristic, but this time a driven, arp-like lead propels the work forward. Crisp shifts in colour and distortion arrive unexpectedly, providing a curious musical sensation once more – and harsher moments of feedback break up the recording in its later stages. On Rel 3L 212c LC-pi the pair strip things back, with more present percussive components and subtle distortion lines, before Wandel ups the ante with a corrosive dirge broken up by sporadic submerged synth hits. The penultimate recording SR 250 Boxcar Averager shows off impressive pitch modulation, resulting in a variety of intriguing sensations. Cinematic and remarkably visual, it charts a strange and affecting course, the synth lead underpinned by a repetitive percussive motif and all manner of sends delivering fascinating details. Nim Bin closes the record and once more van Abbe and Paap invite that subtle musicality into the recording. A tight VCO modulation drives the piece while various percussive synth strikes provide a kind of rhythmic component, though they remain untethered to any time signature – a neat conclusion to an intriguing and exploratory record.

Emotional Rescue completes the Dancefloor Records trilogy with a detour from House to the oft forgotten movement, Freestyle. Shavonne's So, Tell Me, Tell Me is a unique combination of all time-classic, but underground jam too. Emanating out of Hamilton, Ontario the one off project came about when Rose Iovio was introduced to Massimo Rosati. Her voice and tone instantly made the team pitch at their love of the burgeoning Freestyle scene and the raw track was soon formed. Things came together when they fell in to the orbit of Dancefloor's Jeffrey Osbourne. His expanding labels were looking at the new scene via the M-Pire label and under his guidance the record developed and was released in 1989. With 3 versions included here, the breathless vocals of the original Vocal Mix encapsulate Freestyle in essence. Pitched Lovers vocals atop arpeggios, electro-house bass and skipping hats meets breaks-influenced percussion and its all there. Do you smirk or dance For the deeper heads simply flip it for the Trance Mix. Accentuating the bass, added Enigma-style vocal samples and a yearning key line and you have a late night heads down DJ tool. The Dancefloor series ends with the all out Clubhouse Mix. A time capsule in vinyl form, everything is thrown in the mix. Held together with a stepping bass line and stabbing keys and there you have it - things can also end with an E.

With releases already under their belt from Bilal and Deyayu and a split 12" from Alex Dima and Cristian Sarde, London's Obscura is shaping up to be one of those destined to take up position towards the top of tech house shopping lists everywhere. That said, the four tracks from Arnic have a cheekier, mor sprightly vibe than a lot of tech-house, the likes of 'Night Children' and their tribute to the Glasgow clubbing institution that is the 'Sub Club' drawing on disco and early Chicago house influences, all within the economic and stripped down framework that put a big smile on a DJ's face when they're in the mix.

Lewis Parker continues to dig deeper and get stronger in ways, on his most recent addition to his impressive and wide body of work. 20 plus releases into his career, Parker goes in from the opening bars of his new LP ‘Frequency of Perception’. The veteran producer and rapper comes in hot, clearly rooted in his ideas and views, wasting no time dropping knowledge and his opinions on social issues, current rappers, and the rap industry itself.

Clear water hits the surface of a grainy ball. The stream slowly dissolves and flows down the spherical structure until it finally drops on a candle. The flame extinguishes; fragile streaks of smoke ascend until they hit the rough surface of the colossal globe again.
The cover art to Marble Arch, the second long-player of Vienna- and Berlin-based artists Oberst & Buchner, depicts masterly the dramatic juxtapositions the musicians have always been reflecting in their musical outcome.
The massive density of a giant sound wall is contrasted by spacious openness. Fragile sonic details are sparkling out of colossal pitch-black clouds. The songs are filled with gentle warmth and cold roughness, bright digital clarity and deep analogue crackle, ranging in style from pulsating dark-disco over classic pop to experimental ambient.
The duo's two-week artist residency in a 250-year-old house, located in the mystic landscape of the Bavarian woods set this specific mood for the 10-track album which became a mixture of electronic synthesis, organic instrumentals and field recordings. Heavy-weight basslines in combination with bitter-sweet orchestral instrumentation and the minutiae of precise percussion recordings and drum programming are the characteristics that formed the sound of Marble Arch.
Oberst & Buchner's way to deal with tension is in how they compose their song structures as extreme arcs of suspense in a near classical manner. Their intense dynamic arrangements always alternate between rise and explosion or implosion and fall. This way the compositions pick up the motive of creation and destruction throughout the long-player in the same way as the cover-art.
Taken together, all these fragments form the duo`s signature cinematic articulation of dramatic slowed down club music and moments of surprise.

Oberst & Buchner are two friends and musicians living in Vienna and Berlin. They look back on a mutual musical journey that is as rich in variety as it is more then 15 years long. For one thing, countless high-energy DJ sets in clubs and at festivals all over Europe in recent years have earned them a reputation as a dynamic duo infernale. At the same time, their own productions draw from the full palette of moods and emotions.
Boiled down to the very essence, there's one common denominator running through the duo's musical works: colossally massive elements are masterfully set against a shimmering backdrop of incredibly detailed layers. Each so full of subtle suspense that they feel like the first raindrops before a monstrous thunderstorm. You can literally hear the calm before the storm in every break they build up, then feel the force of the wind in your face when it hits you.
Ranging from pulsating electronica over slow organic sounds derived from both nature and acoustic instruments to deep dance pop ballads, their songs are full of suspense and packed with drama. In their productions, the two friends conjure up soundscapes that are extremely dense and at the same time infinitely open and spacious. Within this framework, they play with stark contrasts of antithetic elements: repetition and improvisation, functionality and emotions, emptiness and overload, clarity and crackling.

Blu is the leader of West Coast Hip Hop. Since the days of Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, and Jurassic 5, there have been few wordsmiths that have grasped the attention of listeners worldwide. Introduced to NWA and Public Enemy by his father, Blu later was captivated by the likes of Black Star, The Roots, and Common, creating a unique balance that is displayed in Blu’s personality and music. Blu’s first full length LP, “Below the Heavens” pairs Blu with producer Exile on the Sound in Color imprint. His first single, “Narrow Path” has rocked stages across the world, as fans begin to feel the impact of Blu’s music. His delivery flows flawlessly, while the content reflects the joy and pain of working class youth everywhere. For most of the 20th century, Portugal's economy has relied on fishery and an exploitative canning industry arising from it. To endure their hardship and coordinate their work, fishermen sang. Leva Leva: Litany of the Portuguese fishermen documents this particular culture of the Portuguese coast, through a vinyl compilation containing undisclosed original recordings of fishermen’s songs and contemporary compositions by artists Filipa Cordeiro, Joăo Pais Filipe, Nandele, Romain Baudoin and S1m0nc3ll0. Alongside the record, the project features a detailed art book (Portuguese – French) (not available through wholesale). The volume gives a voice to artists, writers, witnesses and experts, all invited to reflect upon the question of this culture and the rapid transformation it experienced.

It’s been ten years since No Trigger gifted the world a full length. TEN GODDAMN YEARS. But all that is about to change with the release of 2022’s Dr. Album. They’re the first sextet on Red Scare (we think?) and the biggest thing to come outta Worcester, MA since Bob Cousy. These guys have played all over the world (Europe, Japan, South America, Austra1lia, etc.) and made their name perfecting melodic hardcore, but this new 13-song record has something for everyone. Dynamic indie-punk of all stripes can be heard on Dr. Album, and this doctor has an IV bag of hooks, choruses, melodies, and ferocious lyrics that you’ll wanna inject straight into your veins. Side note: Did you know that Emma Goldman opened an ice cream shop in Worcester (AKA Wormtown) back in the 1800’s? It’s true, and Saint Emma would be proud of these scrappy punks and this Left-Wing masterpiece. It may have taken a decade, but No Trigger is relentless, and the band is playing Riot Fest, Punk In Drublic Festival, and shows with The Lawrence Arms in support of these new songs. Mohamed Abdel Wahab wrote another big score for Om Kalsoum in 1972. In “Laylet Hob” (A Night of Love) we hear Arabic music and poetry in perfect symbiosis. The rich and lengthy instrumental intro is just a precursor of the emotion present in this song. The talent of the composer is underlined by how he utilises the traditional style of singing poetry in a more open and creative way. Abdel Wahab’s infusing of long and groovy interludes with varied tonality, rhythmical patterns and an overall unique approach, carries Om Kalsoum’s powerful voice and brings the song to an incredible climax. In this way, he gives more colour and depth to the music and the skilled soloists in the orchestra are finally able to breathe. Sensual rhythms, breaks and breathtaking solos of accordeon, guitar (Omar Khorshid), violin and organ (Hany Mehanna), have ensured this song is an all-time classic for belly dance routines. Souma Records thought it was time to re-release this monument on a high quality vinyl format, together with a repress of “Enta Omri”, another classic song by Souma.

Cypherphunk debuts on Dance Trax with an incredible 4 machine jack track 12 that draws inspiration from the minimal techno blueprint created by artists like Daniel Bell & Todd Sines back in the early 1990s . Deeply mechanical “body house” cuts set for dance floor annihilation!

John Barera (Allergy Season, Dolly, Sorry Records) joins the roster of Will Buck’s Off Track Recordings this September with his four-track ‘Message In The Air’ EP. New York based producer, DJ and Cross Street Music label boss John Barera has long been a highly acclaimed artist in the world of underground House and Techno. In 2022, he scored his rst lm as well, Marc17 in the House. His material has graced many taste making labels, while his DJ sets have taken him
to hotspots like Panorama Bar, Fabric, Smart Bar, Razzmatazz, Floyd, Video Club, Tangent Gallery and many more. Here we see Barera, a prolic collaborator who drops solo albums as well, delivering his rst solo ep in six years via the edgling Off Track Recordings. On this record, Barera steps up with his trademark raw house, now infused with live instruments or even a vocal across four soul drenched house
cuts.

Uit de Hoogte goes raw on new release “Λέων” with 15 analog jams made between July 23 and August 22, summer 2022. All tracks are written, recorded and mixed off the cuff, straight to 1/2 inch reel-to-reel tape which gives the tracks a deep and warm vibe. Some additional editing and mastering duties were done in the box. The Belgian producer doesn’t hesitate to explore new grounds with tracks ranging from house to garage and acid till techno. »Mediocrity and the Master Narrative« is about coming to terms with having grown up with unrealistic expectations of life. Moose Malloy spent multiple years crafting this many-layered 19 minutes masterpiece by masterfully molding a plethora of reference points and influences. Ranging from minimal music to free-form sampling and the more spiritual kind of Jazz, to geographical influences they never visited (like Mongolia or Mali) and paintings by Lucian Freud or the film Koyaanisqatsi. In a way, this album is not even an album, it's many stories all at once. And they all tell us that our very own life's mediocrity can only be paradoxically dissolved by fully accepting it.
