The title track 'Forgotten Heroes' sets the EP in motion with a sense of controlled urgency. A rolling, slightly breaktinged groove pushes forward relentlessly, while an eerie, almost nostalgic synth melody hovers in the background, giving the track an emotional pull. 'Concentrate' shifts the focus inward_ bleeping motifs, tight claps and restless hihats circle around spoken fragments that feel like thoughts caught between the peak of the night and the quiet hours before sunrise.

On the B-side, 'Forte' accelerates into pure momentum: sharp, bleep-led sequences and forward pressure combine into a rush that feels like racing through the city at night. 'Soft Killer' deepens the mood with a darker, dominant edge, its stripped back power and razor-sharp sounds cutting clean through the mix. Creating a heady mix of New Orleans and North Mississippi rhythms, blended with their own Thames delta style, and some West African influences thrown in for good measure; the South London blues trio, Jimmy Regal and the Royals have delivered another fine example of blues fusion. An all original release, which successfully demonstrates the band’s ever evolving style, packed with plenty of guest musicians, whilst retaining the spirt of the core band and their individual sound.

Involve Records starts the new year with the 3rd edition of the acclaimed Nightclub Pros series, which previously featured the likes of legends such as Maxx Rossi and DJ Ogi besides young talents like Fractions and Chlär, always keeping the balance between old-school and contemporary Techno.

Label owner Regal opens the VA with a trippy tool, reminiscent of his early basement weapons but with a warehouse-ambience. 'Undisputed' gets straight to the point without hesitation and keeps the pace high. DJ Emerson follows up with 'XTC', a rumbling cut for peak time club moments with flashing strobe-lights, giving the Van Halen classic an ecstatic Techno twist. On the flip side, Tensal from the Spanish legendary duo Exium takes a deep dive into futuristic worlds in 'Metaverse', where a brew of chopped vocals accompanies the rolling drums throughout the whole track. Up-and-coming DJ and producer ¦asstnt from Madrid closes the EP with 'La Línea', an 8-min epic march characterized by a catchy guitar riff and groovy percussion, alternating to a vocal insisting on following the line of life.

Dedicated to all b-boys and b-girls and all the graffiti writers around the world, DJ Regal returns to his Lexington imprint with the second part in his Inspired By series. New York '72 is an amazingly vibey tribute to the sounds & sights of the Big Apple 50 years ago, coming in a top notch instrumental hiphop style.

Regal Worm release Worm!, the fizzy, dizzy follow up to 2021's The Hideous Goblink. It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly a decade since Regal Worm first emerged from the mud. And what a long segmented body of work it has been with no less than five albums under its clitellum! (look it up, it’s not a rude word). With a small bag of heavy friends, Varrod Goblink continues to create astonishing music in his very own loft laboratory. Crammed with a growing number of vintage, dusty instruments, clean vintage instruments, computer tech foolery and weird looking banks of machines festooned with twiddly knobs, a visitor might wonder if they’d accidentally wandered into some sort of TARDIS.

Regal's "Remember Why You Started" LP faces its final rework. The last package welcomes Regal and Sita Abellan, Thomas P.Heckmann, _asstnt & Roll Dann and Alignment to shine their production skills to the Spanish techno luminaries first album.

Regal & multi-faceted Spanish artist Sita Abellan collaborated for the rework of "Cult Of Personality". Their rendering leans heavily into the realm of electro, with heavily distorted synth lines marching through like a freight train. Darting keys rush and reverberate back upon themselves before a powerful female vocal sample takes over from the male voice that commanded the original. Germany's Thomas P Heckmann takes on "Before I Die". Heavier and beefier than the original, the kick drum and baseline of Heckmann's remix take control and dominate the landscape. He retains Pau's distinct vocals, leaving a familiar dash of the original in this bolder rework. Percussion takes a front seat in this version, with snare drums and cymbals combating the bitter main synth melody.

Straight from Madrid's underground scene are producers _asstnt & Roll Dann, who team up for the remix of "Respect". A cut up, distorted rework that grows darker and more robust throughout. Bottomless kick drums ring out, while a heavily distorted electric guitar sample brings grime and a sonic haze to the track. The American male vocal sample is kept on from the original and remains even more powerful in it's reworked state than before. Italian producer Alignment wraps up with the accurately placed track "The Last Dance". In this final remix of the series the kick drum received a complete overhaul, instantly pivoting the track into a darker place. Only the curious melodic key sequence pours light into the track and brings with it an overwhelming sense of positivity to the closer. The baseline backs up the melody before percussion breakdowns take centre stage and the two fight for dominance until the final beat.

Involve Records boss Regal presents "RWYS Remixes Pt.01" - the first installment of three immense remix packages from the Spanish techno giant's debut album, "Remember Why You Started". Recruiting international powerhouse duo's Slam, PTU & Boston 168 to rework the earth-shattering originals.

Scotland's luminary duo Slam kicks off with their edit of "She Dances Alone". The pair's distinctive tweak is the alchemization of the kick drum, pivoting into a thunderous force. The kick is paired with claps that ricochet above a determined synth line, while the low-slung baseline mists under twinkling keys and sprinklings of hoover noise, giving the rework an old school feel. Uplifting major notes inject brightness & contrast to the track, with the cunning acid line lingering 'til close.

Next, enigmatic Russian twosome PTU transform "Dealing With My Pain", a once low tempo mid-point track, into a primary dancefloor weapon. This heavily industrialised rendition utilises an incessantly deep bass drum while maintaining the commanding male vocal sample. Blistering hi-hats, and a wildly distorted synth breakdown build a brash and dubious mood. The thumping kick drum drives the track forward, looping electrical elements that ring out from ear to ear, surrounding you with wild noise and energy.

Italy's acid techno aficionado's Boston 168 step up to close with their interpretation of "Fearful Nights". In true style, the duo mould the very start of the track to blend with their signature sound. A bumping kick drum and quintessential 303 manipulate the melody, resulting in a far more venomous composition than the original. Sinister synth stabs slice through the chaos with a hi-hat and snare drum combination for extra effect.

opo’s 666ridims (2020 - 2026), compiled by J.TRIPP, brings together tracks from his 666ridims netlabel, reflecting on the singular sound worlds of some of his solo work. Like a discovery made by neutrino sensors, opo’s tracks research the transformation of rhythm, swing, and structure, aiming for a new grid. Sketchy and raw, processing emotions and experiences, regaling stories, and asking questions, opo relates in trance verse. All tracks here breathe his focus on improvisation, experimentation, and collaboration. Some of the beats featured on 666ridims (2020 - 2026) are outlines for freestyles and songwriting ideas, a practice formed during a long-distance music conversation with illustrator, printmaker, painter, designer, and maker Billy Bigwood. Other tracks are more club-oriented, like speculative genres programmed in odd meters. Japanese Barcelona-based DJ Hanakito contributes to one track, using samples and chops sourced from her vinyl imports.

Through Afroelectronic experimentation and diasporic narratives, opo encodes his soul's past and future through his music. Encoded, activated, returned. Initiate only when you receive permission from all your mental fragments. Keep transmissions in mind and dislodge and follow the command cluster's trail. Strongly influenced by sci-fi, ancestral afro musics, jazz, performance art, and food, as musical lines and shards of meaning cascade, 666ridims (2020 - 2026) is a minimalist dive into strange meters, polyrhythm, and the transcendence of ideas. Fast, slow. Exhilarating. We don’t discover physical laws; we just collaborate on them.

Flug brings his singular vision to Backspin Records with 'From My Soul', a 7-track EP that marks a powerful new chapter for both artist and label, rounded out by a remix from Kashpitzky. Moving between deep emotional techno, raw percussive functionality and high intensity, the release showcases Flug's signature precision and narrative depth while keeping things classy and never falling for overused tropes. Kashpitzky completes the package with a remix that reinterprets the source material from a darker, more straight-forward angle. ??

Opening with the title track 'From My Soul', Flug sets off on an epic 8-minute journey built on reverberating melodic layers, shimmering chord pads and a strong low endthat unfolds slowly and deliberately, balancing emotional weight with a hypnotic drive. 'Make It Loud' follows with a more stripped, functional direction, where warm low-end energy, minimal percussion and reverb-drenched sine wave synth hits create a tight, circular groove anchored by a subtle but sinister vocal presence. ??

On the flip side, 'Human Instinct' turns the energy more direct and physical, driven by a saturated kick drum, looping synth motifs and sparse vocal cuts that heighten tension without disrupting the flow. 'The Awakening' expands the emotional scope with a deep kick and tom-driven bassline, expansive droning pads and dragging percussion that build a rich, cinematic atmosphere. Kashpitzky's remix reimagines the original at a faster BPM with distorted chord stabs, off-grid hi-hats and layered synth work creating a tense, industrial atmosphere that breaks into a spacious breakdown before dropping back into a stripped,high-impact groove. ??

With the 'From My Soul' EP, Flug marks a strong first statement on Regal's Backspin Records, delivering a cohesive body of work that balances depth, emotion and dancefloor utility, reinforcing the label's dedication to innovative techno.

Mexico’s premiere heavy techno don, Regal86, steps up for the first solo 12” EP on Floorspeed 007. Characteristically blending the rhythmic art of sexy with beatdown, the Monterrey techno genius himself delivers a pitch perfect 4-track for the edge of summer.

To kick off our 5th year party celebrations the label begins its new set of releases starting with the joined forces of Regal86 and IMOGEN. The artists contribute two tracks each to the four track vinyl alongside remixes of each other's work, meeting at sonic crossroads.

The EP journeys through rave nostalgia filled with warmth and hope for the future, recollecting some favourite memories of the dance floor.

The A side is fast, driving with a sense of longing for the Halcyon Days and the offline times of partying when things felt easier. The release opens with ‘One Night In 1992’, IMOGEN’s nostalgic ode to an earlier rave era, built around a vocal recollection of her mother’s experiences on the dancefloor in the 90’s. Raw, hazy and deeply personal, it sets the tone for a record rooted in memory while remaining firmly in the present. Regal86 follows with ‘Rush’, bringing a different energy to the record. Driven by rolling rhythms, playful movement and a strong sense of groove.

The B side takes a more optimistic turn looking into the future with dubby aquatic pads and euphoric breakdowns, carrying a feeling of forward motion. There is a lightness to the tracks, a sense of joy running beneath NC Station and keeping the momentum locked whilst turning inwards on the final track, IMOGEN’s ‘Midnight At Bret’ rounds out a release that moves naturally between nostalgia, propulsion and the shared language of the dance floor.

As the next release launches, IMOGEN takes wigs on tour for a five year special run of shows starting on release at Tresor for a two club take over following with further cities: London, Milan, Dublin and more.

Spitzt die Ohren, und ihr werdet es hören - Pat-Metheny-artige, klare, ausgefallene Gitarrenklänge, die geduldig zu trägen, hypnotischen, an Steve Reich erinnernden mathematischen Sackgassen geschichtet werden; ineinandergreifende Hackbretter und Vibraphone, die fallen und wogen wie an einem seltenen Tag mit starkem Schneefall in einer Stadt im Süden; die leisen und selbstbewussten Gesänge von Patrick Phelan und Nathan Lambdin, untermalt von den gleichmäßigen Rhythmen des Schlagzeugers Tod Parkhill. Bei der Erstveröffentlichung bezeichneten wir das Projekt aus Richmond, Virginia, als ,Exegese der großen Ambient-Rock-Momente des 20. Jahrhunderts". Daran halten wir fest. Doch bei näherer Betrachtung und mit dem Rückblick auf fast 30 Jahre seit der Veröffentlichung der LP sind ihre kleinen, kniffligen Schätze erst richtig zur Entfaltung gekommen. Es fällt schwer, keinen Vergleich zu einer zeitgenössischeren Künstlergeneration anzustellen, wenn man ,South 1998" wiederentdeckt, das nun aus SEO-Gründen umbenannt wurde (wer hätte das damals gedacht!?!?). Der experimentelle Slowcore-Experimentalismus von Escho Records aus Kopenhagen und ML Buch; ein bisschen von den Vorreitern der Cloudrock-Szene (und Jag-Labelkollegen) Chanel Beads; eine ganze Reihe von Veröffentlichungen des angesehenen (und unterschätzten) norwegischen Labels Hubro. Aber es verdient auch einen Platz im Regal neben seinen zeitgenössischen ,Post-irgendwas"- und ,Pre-irgendwas"-Kollegen von damals - Tortoise, Bark Psychosis, The Sea & Cake. ,South" von 1998, ein unbestrittener Jagjaguwar-Klassiker, war an sich nie verloren gegangen, aber wir haben es für euch wiederentdeckt - zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf Vinyl, als Teil unserer Feierlichkeiten zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum.

The third chapter of The Third Room's curator-led series is shaped by Verraco, one of the key voices behind a new generation of artists reshaping contemporary club music. Through his productions, DJ sets and his work with TraTraTrax, he has helped define a sound where hybrid forms, rhythmic experimentation and cross-cultural influences are pushing the genre into new territory. Structured across two distinct sides, the release draws a clear connection between past and present. The A-side leans into a deeper, more classic space, while the B-side moves towards a more forward-facing, hybrid sound. It opens with Libration (Stone Version) by Substance & Vainqueur, a revisiting of their landmark 2007 release, a track that helped define the language of Dub Techno as it is understood today. Reduced, deep and spatially precise, it established a blueprint for how rhythm, delay and tone could function together. It's presence here acts less as a nod to the past and more as a reminder of a foundation that continues to shape the genre. Skee Mask's Clear Sky 909 continues this thread, softening the edges without losing depth. Warm, enveloping textures and fluid movement give the track a sense of openness, balancing clarity with emotional weight. The B-side shifts perspective. On Untitled (Teamgeist Mix), Verraco, joined by Tils, delivers the record's defining moment - a dense, intricately designed piece built on a driving low-end and evolving rhythmic patterns. Elements from Techno, Bass and Leftfield House converge into a detailed, forward-moving structure that actively bridges cultural contexts. It results in a form of dance music shaped by technical precision, but drive.n by a clear sense of intent, marking a distinct expression of Verraco's current sound. Untitled by 1morning introduces a rolling, tribal-infused groove with a strong sense of depth, while PatumPa by Regal86 closes the record with a bright, loop-driven energy that leans into pure motion. Across both sides, the release moves between reference and progression. Rather than separating old and new, Verraco connects them - tracing a line from foundational Dub Techno to a more fluid, contemporary club language. Dajusch brings his distinctive sound to Backspin Records with 'Oracle', a five-track EP that showcases his instinct for powerful grooves, deep low end and carefully selected synth work, rounded out by a remix from Dutch techno veteran Sterac. Another strong addition to Regal's Backspin Records, this EP balances Dajusch's musical sensibility with his feel for high impact club music, keeping the focus firmly on club functionality.

Opening with 'Boxer', Dajusch immediately strips things down to their essential elements. A buzzing deep bassline provides the foundation while a repeated vocal hook becomes the central motif, surrounded entirely by percussion including a punchy kick, heavy toms and crisp hats. 'Narrow' introduces a saw wave synth that functions simultaneously as bassline and lead, gradually building tension through repetition and a slowly opening filter before a droning pad leads into the return of the drums. Closing the A-side, 'Reeses Piece' is built around a wide gliding Reese bass moving across di?erent notes. A heavy breakbeat, clean claps and hats provide the framework while a high-pitched vocal brings a distinct 90s rave energy, with swinging toms adding movement to an already groovy production.

On the flip side, the title track 'Oracle' shifts the focus towards melody, with Detroit-influenced synth work taking centre stage. A classy melodic motive is complemented by heavily processed vocals transformed into euphoric, drone-like elements, adding another dimension without losing the track's directness. 'Strings' closes the original material with a hefty saturated kick while string synths carry the main theme. Drums straight out of a classic drumcomputer and warm chords build into a more expansive breakdown before returning to the groove. Closing the EP, Sterac's remix of 'Narrow' takes the original saw synth motive into a more hypnotic direction, playing with its pitch and arrangement while reducing the percussion and pushing an already deeper kick further into the mix, giving the synth work more space to breathe.

With 'Oracle', Dajusch delivers a focused statement rooted in classic Techno while remaining connected to a modern sound. Another strong addition to Regal's Backspin Records, this EP balances Dajusch's musical sensibility with his feel for high impact club music', reinforcing the label's dedication to forward-thinking techno with a clear respect for where techno came from.

With his Periodical EP, Isaiah delivers a six-tracker rooted in the foundations of early techno, built around percussion, groove, and stripped-back functionality. As a driving force in the underground scene, both as a DJ and the founder of the Frenzy and Vulged collectives, Isaiah meticulously designed this EP for selectors and club settings.

Opening with 'Monthly', the EP sets the tone with a punchy kick, crisp high-end percussion and a driving bassline, while smeared textures and subtle effects create depth within a minimal framework. 'Yearly' intensifies the approach, with sharper hi-hats and layered mid percussion pushing the energy forward, maintaining a hypnotic yet no-frills momentum.'Hourly' keeps the focus on rhythm, pairing dense percussion work with a bouncing bassline that locks into a steady groove, while occasional pad accents add flashes of brightness.

On the second half, 'Real' strips things back, centering around a rolling bassline and sparse percussion, with shimmering synth touches guiding the track into deeper territory. 'Everlasting' reintroduces a tougher edge, driven by a hard-hitting kick and a bouncing low end, while eerie synth elements add a darker tone. Closing the EP, Beau Didier, a rising force in the Techno scene and fellow Frenzy collective member, reshapes 'Everlasting' into a smoother, more low-end focused roller. Known for his heavy basslines and powerful rhythms, Didier brings the bassline to the forefront, softens the percussion and introduces vocal chops that expand the atmosphere.

On his debut EP on Regal's Backspin Records, the 8th release of the newborn imprint, Isaiahpresents a focused collection of percussive techno tools built for diverse sets, offering tracks for every moment while maintaining a consistent, groove-driven identity throughout.

Jazz-fusion, disco-funk, Latin jazz and batucada rhythms get the Filipino treatment onAfter Midnight, the sublime second album from keyboardist Boy Katindig. Originally released in 1980, After Midnight draws heavy influence from soul and funk contemporaries in the US as well as Latin America, in particular the famed Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa.

It’s a testament to his musical prowess that Katindig weaves effortlessly between styles and tempos. His reverence for Paulinho da Costa extends far, with covers of several songs from the latter’s 1979 Happy People album. This includes slow-burner ‘Déjà Vu’ written by Isaac Hayes originally for Dionne Warwick; on the Filipino instrumental version, local legends Jun Regalado and Roger Herrera (from Regalado’s ‘Pinoy Funk’ single) are reunited on drums and bass respectively.

But Katindig’s original compositions hold just as much weight and unique personality: title track ‘After Midnight’ opens with a sultry funk serenade reminiscent of The Isley Brothers, and quickly transforms into a catchy, blistering, saxophone chorus that brims with swagger. Hidden B-side gem ‘Got The Need’ is an uptempo tribute to batucada that would not be out of place in a jazzy house set, and boasts increasingly elaborate and psychedelic solos from Katindig on keys and Ben Concepcion on soprano sax.

Meanwhile, ‘Love Till the End of Time’ is a masterclass in instrumental disco funk, penned by the prolific Greg Phillanganes who at that same time was writing for many of the greats including Chaka Khan, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons and Cheryl Lynn.

This album is lovingly reissued by Sama Sama Records, a boutique label from DJ and collector Norsicaa, who ran the esteemed Soundway Records for 8 years and released the compilation Ayo Ke Disco in late 2024.

Stanz Amor delivers a five-track EP that blends crunchy sound design, tribal influences and driving grooves into a cohesive statement of energy, movement and atmosphere. Hailing from Blackpool UK, Stanz Amor emerged in 2023 with a distinctly old-school approach, channeling groove, rhythm and intensity into a modern context, which he showcases on his Backspin Records debut EP 'Mercurial'. ??Opening with 'Kong', the EP sets the tone with an old school spirit reimagined through a contemporary lens. Loopy structures, banging percussion and textured, gritty elements create a hypnotic flow designed for peak-time moments. 'Mercurial' raises the intensity, propelled by fast-paced hi-hats and shimmering rides that injectconstant motion, while a rolling low end gives the track serious weight. A striking Latin vocal lingers throughout, leaving a lasting impression long after the track fades. On the B-side 'Count' shifts the energy into a groove led by rolling bongos, underpinned by a heavy sub and catchy, repeating vocals that lock into a tight, circular rhythm. 'Yawhoo' follows with a punchy kick, rumbling foundation and driving percussion, elevated by a cheeky vocal and a whistle straight out of the 90s rave era, adding a playful, nostalgic edge. The closing track is a remix of 'Count' by Steve Redhead, who reinterprets the original with forceful yet hypnotic percussion and finely detailed vocal work. A Belgian techno mainstay since the early 2000s, Redhead is known for his uncompromising, groove-driven sound and lasting influence within the underground. ??With this release, Stanz Amor delivers a focused and effective collection built on groove, repetition and dancefloor functionality. Released on Regal's Backspin Records, a label rooted in the underground and dedicated to honoring techno's origins while pushing its future, the project balances nostalgia with modern clarity, designed to resonate in clubs and leave a lasting impact.

Despite the thousands of kilometers between them, Monterrey and Medellín have always seemed to move in parallel. Both cities rise around guardian hills that watch over their people, and if you look closer, even the concrete that forms the backbone of each city traces back to these rugged metropolises.

The list of coincidences could go on—small, almost conspiratorial links that chance has woven between the two places. Adding another chapter to this unlikely connection is Regal86, who had already crossed the bridge once before to dive into the depths of Colombia’s “city of eternal spring.”

Doble Filo, his first full-length cut to vinyl, now becomes his latest calling card. The eighth release on Discos Nutabe’s catalog arrives with six tracks—six sharp-edged pieces that lay bare Regal86’s sonic marginality.

It’s a form of exclusion that isn’t imposed but chosen, a deliberate stance to sidestep the demand for exotica that still shapes much of Latin America’s electronic landscape. This is spicy, rough-edged techno—ruleless and unruly—driven by dense, clipped progressions that plunge you into a vortex masquerading as a rayado ritual.

There’s no overload of concept here, nor any caricature of the extravagant. This album simply delivers music built to tear through any club or dive, without false promises or unnecessary labels. If there’s one thing worth highlighting about Doble Filo as a whole, it’s the way it consistently—and almost implicitly—reasserts its core premise from start to finish: these techno tracks are meant to be played wherever the hell you want.

In a moment when oddities tend to be rewarded more than usual, Doble Filo doubles down on fundamentals, reclaiming the spirit of early electronic music and carrying it into an era where immediacy seems intent on blurring the honesty of those who shape the sound.

A special reaction to a very special record. Produced by veteran House Heads Phil Hooton and Mark Gamble, the duo have created a monster track that straddles Soul, Jazz and House. Commentator Yogi Haughton highlighted the “ambiguous nature” of GARDEN OF EDEN as it merges Soul and Jazzy House.

The bedrock of the track is a newly recorded (with ace musos lured into the recording studio) version of Mezzoforte’s Iceland jazz-funk classic GARDEN PARTY.
Phil and Mark then composed a brand new composition to go over the top of the track,and to regally complete their new concoction got UK Soulful House royalty vocalist extraordinaire Pete Simpson to sing it. And what a performance Pete delivers!

The A-side opens with 'It Was Just A Knife', a tribal-driven looper layered with Detroit-reminiscent synths. The track is a subtle nod to the past, wrapped in tight modern production. Peak OG hardgroove. 'Tryck' dials up the tension with broken rhythms, tripped-out cymbals and bleeps, adding a leftfield touch without losing the percussive thread. The B-side brings out the funk. 'Snake Venom' and 'Sax' strip techno down to its rolling essentials: it's all about punchy drums, melodic accents and a steady forward drive. The artists featured here were known for exploring

the post-war backdrop of instability there came
unprecedented levels of economic prosperity. With a

The second ultra limited installment of Richard Norris' journeys into the outer reaches of dub has landed.

Mixing influences from roots reggae to On U Sound to Basic Channel and beyond, these six tracks offer warm and lush sonic landscapes to sink into.

Following the release of a number of EPs on Swiss, German, British and Australian labels, Trinidad will release their debut album ‘Palm Trees & Thirty Degrees’ on October 16th 2020.

The album draws on the Swiss-based trio’s experience of sustaining the energy of festival and club shows, while also providing the perfect background to a relaxed summer evening with friends.


The project provides an opportunity for the trio to indulge in a range of musical influences, blending together a mix of synthesizers with the haunting tones of a church organ, the warmth of a string quartet and regality of an opera singer. The album grew organically, with inspiration taking hold beyond the confines of the studio: the bonus track recorded with a Jamaican reggae singer in the back of a VW bus in Greece. Soundscapes from Colombia to India were captured and embedded.

With "Palm Trees & Thirty Degrees" Trinidad guide listeners on a journey to a tropical paradise; to a wonderful, perhaps peculiar place of confidence, created and shaped by the mental theatre of the moment.

The soft kiss of a warm breeze hits you as you adjust to your new surroundings ("Desembarco"); leaving the static chatter of your thoughts behind in the "Lobby" (feat. MonoAbe) of your mind; you allow yourself to imagine what the evening holds in store (“Kopfkino”); But first, there’s a drink in the “Sunset Bar”, a refreshing cocktail "Luciola" that serves as a gateway for you to plunge into the night. A night of unlimited possibilities, the first instances a blur ("Sagrada"), as time starts to lose its meaning ("Tempus Fugit"); everything spins, everything is possible, everything is ("Elevate"). Suddenly, hours (or is it days?) have passed – it doesn’t matter; what matters is the first sign of dawn, the unmistakable warmth dissolving the darkness (“Alma”); the beat slows, and you feel the "Libération" of the new day; looking around you see the moments you’ve shared etched on the faces of your friends ("Fleeting" feat. Julia Portmann); It is not goodbye, it is only "Au Revoir".

The album was produced by Trinidad in their own studios in Bern and Zurich. It features collaborations with a number of artists: Cornelia Aeschbacher Firmin (Hang), MonoAbe (Mallets & Percussion), Jack Williams (text of "Fleeting"), Julia Portmann (vocals), Zenyth (vocals) and Michael Meier (electric bass). The songs were mixed by Marcel Schneider, mastered by Benjamin Fay. Raïssa Lara Lütolf was responsible for the graphic design.

When a British alt-soul and art-pop duo collaborates with Filipino musical royalty, the result is a blinding flash of artistic spirit that transcends geographical andgenerational barriers.

For Margate-based act Thandii, a chaotic whirlwind of a trip to Manila allowed Graham Godfrey and Jess Berry to explore a new cultural context of song- writing. After several prolific years of self-released albums together, they took the opportunity to channel Graham’s Filipino heritage through an ambitious project proposed by the label Sama Sama Records: for Thandii to make their next album with the most recorded drummer in the Philippines, Jun Regalado.

Now in his late 70s, Regalado has recently gained more recognition internationally after the reissue of his track ‘Pinoy Funk’ (from the Soundway compilation Ayo Ke Disco in 2024), along with the discovery of nearly 500 album appearances that are now finding themselves in the collections of younger generations. And on Coco Okayo - the first time he has collaborated outside of his contemporaries - Regalado effectively passes the torch.

In exploring a sound born of the diaspora with roots in British soul music, Coco Okayo makes full use of the polymath abilities of Thandii. While they provide vocals, percussion, flutes and production, they still manage to carve out space for regular Margate collaborators (including keyboardist Steve Pringle, Graham’s bandmate in Pigeon), as well as tapping Filipino connections in the United States such as Wyn Avillas and Ian Santillano.

“It’s a new genre coming from Filipino diaspora artists paying tribute to the Manila sound of the 70s,” say Thandii, “but combining it with modern day post-punk- disco, beat-driven-art-pop music coming from the small seaside town of Margate”. However the listener might interpret it, it’s clear that Coco Okayo is not stuck between worlds, but rather, has built a utopian world of its own.

Als sie ihre Plattensammlungen wiederentdeckten, die lange Zeit auf vergessenen Dachböden verstaut oder hinter Regalen mit alten Zeitschriftenausgaben in zahlreichen heruntergekommenen Secondhand-Läden in Alabama versteckt waren, verliebten sich die Mitglieder von ,Man or Astro-Man?" in die verkratzten Klänge von Link Wray, The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows und Duane Eddy - also in Instrumental-Gitarren- und Surf-Musik der späten Fünfziger und frühen Sechziger. Gleichzeitig hatten bizarre Bühnenbilder und Auftritte von Kraftwerk, Sun Ra, Devo, Frank Zappa, The Sputniks und natürlich den Residents großen Einfluss auf die sich rasch entwickelnde Truppe. Dennoch war es das erzwungene Leben in einer hoffnungslos konservativen Kleinstadtumgebung, das Man or Astro-Man? dazu brachte, das Offensichtliche hinter sich zu lassen und sich viel stärker von dem beeinflussen zu lassen, was sie hassten, als von dem, was ihnen eigentlich gefiel. Im Grunde könnte man sagen, dass Man or Astro-Man? weitaus stärker von College-Football und muskelbepackten Verbindungs-Spinnern beeinflusst waren als von Science-Fiction. Die Band trieb es, besonders bei Live-Auftritten, auf die Spitze, so lächerlich wie möglich zu sein, und verspottete dabei ernsthafte ,alternative" Acts und mit ihnen die Musikindustrie selbst. ,Experiment Zero" (1996) war ihr Debütalbum bei Touch and Go. Es wurde in drei Tagen im eigenen Studio von Man or Astro-Man?, dem ,Zero Return" in Alabama, zusammen mit Steve Albini aufgenommen und gilt als eines der großartigen modernen, vom Surf-Stil beeinflussten Gitarren-Instrumentalalben. Da Man or Astro-Man? ,Experiment Zero" als ihr Meisterwerk der langen Entwicklung der Surf-Musik etablieren wollten, begannen sie, sich schneller als je zuvor weiterzuentwickeln. Sie veränderten ihren Sound weiter und erweiterten den Einsatz von Samples, Computerprogrammierung, Keyboards, elektronischen Spielereien sowie experimentellem analogem Schneiden und Einfügen von Tonband. Obwohl das Album von der Kritik weithin gelobt wurde, mussten sich langjährige Fans erst einmal daran gewöhnen. Wo die meisten Bands müde geworden wären oder einfach immer wieder dasselbe Album im Kreis gedreht hätten, erfanden sich Man or Astro-man? und ihre Live-Auftritte immer wieder neu.
