Die frühen Achtzigerjahre waren für den härteren Rock aus Deutschland eine ganz besondere Zeit. Der ausufernde Progressive Rock und der sogenannte Krautrock waren am Ausklingen, der Punk musste dem New Wave weichen und der Heavy Metal begann Fahrt aufzunehmen.

Einige Bands saßen zwischen 1980 und 1983 zwischen den Stühlen und können gar als „das fehlende Glied“ bezeichnet werden. In diesem Boxset
befinden sich gleich drei Schmuckstücke und Geheimtipps, die heute sogar aufregender klingen als damals. REQUIEM kamen aus Stuttgart
und lieferten auf ihrer einzigen LP einen Mix aus Hardrock, Pomprock und Progressive Rock. Gitarrist Tommy Clauss wurde später mit Bands wie ZAR
berühmt, bei denen auch ex-Uriah Heep Sänger John Lawton dabei war.

SPHINX ist eine andere Geschichte, denn hier haben ein paar italienische Gastarbeitersöhne im Raum Stuttgart eine Band gegründet. So wurde
das Debüt „Here We Are“ vom Label als „Made In Italy“ verkauft, was natürlich nur eine Verkaufsstrategie war. SPHINX nehmen das voraus,
was uns Jahre später unter Anderem Dream Theater lieferten. Eine frühe Version des Prog Metal, oder ein Vorläufer davon. Das gleiche Album wurde
von einem anderen Label 1985 als „Burning Lights“ erneut ins Rennen geschickt; dieses Mal mit einem Heavy Metal-tauglichem Coverartwork.
LIMERICK aus Saarbrücken haben als Schülerband 1980 eine heute sehr rare Single aufgenommen. Das einzige Album erschien dann 1983 – mit
deutschen Texten! Regional war der kräftige Rock mit Dialekt im Gesang sehr erfolgreich und spielte Shows mit Kim Wilde und Climax Blues Band.

With Vermilion Hours, Melaine Dalibert offers a condensed rereading of his Musique pour le lever du jour, still exploring minimal variations and subtle piano resonances. This new version, enriched by David Sylvian's discreet electronic textures, retains the atmospheric magic of the original while offering a new density. Sylvian, best known as the singer of Japan, is also an important figure in ambient music, collaborating with Czukay, Hassell and Sakamoto. Their collaboration, born of a sincere artistic affinity, acts here as a transmission between generations. The two tracks on the album - Musique pour le lever du jour and Arabesque - evoke a soundscape where each note is reflected and diffracted infinitely. The electronic work acts like a halo, a vibrant aura. Dalibert speaks of a desire to humanize his theoretical processes, to touch through the organic. Like a Klee painting, each stratum of sound builds depth. This is, indeed, "landscape music," where, if you listen closely, you might hear birds singing in the background. And that is the true essence of these suspended harmonies, these vermilion hours-which transport us, as only the contemplation of nature can, into another space-time, a sonic bath that is also a renewal of the senses. Since his career with Japan began in 1974, David Sylvian has explored a wide range of musical territories, collaborating with the likes of Robert Fripp, Jon Hassell, Readymade FC and Ryuichi Sakamoto - venturing as far as ambient music, which he further develops here in tandem with Melaine Dalibert. While continuing to teach at the Rennes Conservatoire, Melaine Dalibert regularly releases albums on various labels and performs both his own works and those of other composers - most recently, a reworking of Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert. He also co-curates the Autres Mesures festival. The two pieces forming Vermilion Hours feel like transcending the generations. Between Melaine Dalibert (born in 1979) and David Sylvian (1958) lies the same generational gap as between Sylvian and Czukay (1938-2017) or Hassell (1937-2021). The CD versions adds two edit versions of both long tracks.

Release 18 on Atom Trance Force, this time from label favourite Micropulse. Here they deliver three rip roaring hard trance tracks in the form of 'Ecco', 'Evil Twin' and title track 'Heaven's Gate' that take no prisoners, with an ode to yesteryear, just how we like it!

Heaven's Gate & Ecco channel classic hard trance energy with high pace and melodic. Evil Twin slows it down to 140 for a more serene yet driving take.

Penguin Cafe Orchestra’ is the second studio album by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, released in 1981, and recorded between 1977 and 1980.  By this album, the line-up for the band had expanded greatly, with contribution including Simon Jeffes, Helen Leibmann, Steve Nye and Gavyn Wright of the original quartet, as well as Geoff Richardson, Peter Veitch, Braco, Giles Leamna, Julio Segovia and Neil Rennie.
All pieces were composed by Simon Jeffes, except for ‘Paul’s Dance’ (Jeffes and Nye), ‘Cutting Branches’ (traditional), and ‘Walk Don’t Run’ (by Johnny Smith).

‘Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter’ is based on the traditional Zimbabwean song, ‘Nhemamusasa’, a field recording of which can be heard played on mbira on the Nonesuch Records album ‘The Soul of the Mbira’.

The Boston Globe opined that “this is one of the most eccentric records released this or any year... It’s also one of the most delightful.”
In 2021, ‘Penguin Cafe Orchestra’ was named among The Fifty Best Albums Of 1981 by Spin.

Es ist der vierte Album-Soundtrack von M83 und wurde in Frankreich und den USA von M83s Anthony Gonzalez zusammen mit den regelmäßigen M83-Mitwirkenden Joe Berry und Clement Libes aufgenommen. Der Film erscheint am 12. Mai digital bei Universal Pictures und feiert seine weltweite Kinopremiere am 26. Juni in der MK2 Bibliothèque in Paris. Unter der Regie des französischen Schauspielers und Regisseurs Jalil Lespert wird hier die weltberühmte Rallye Dakar begleitet - ein Event, das seit 45 Jahren die ultimative Bewährungsprobe für Belastbarkeit, Können und Ausdauer im Motorsport darstellt. Das 9.000 Kilometer lange Rennen dauert 14 strapaziöse Tage durch raues Wüstengelände. Mit beispiellosem Zugang taucht dieser Film in das härteste Autorennen der Welt ein. Begleitet wird dies von einem wunderbaren Score den Gonzalez perfekt auf den Film zugeschnitten hat. "Word on the Street" ist das amerikanische Debütalbum der kanadischen Avant-Pop-Singer-Songwriterin und Performance-Künstlerin Elle Barbara und geht auf das Konto von Elle Barbara's Black Space - einer Gruppe von Instrumentalisten aus Montreal, die Barbara zusammengerufen hat, um mit anderen schwarzen Musikern ins Gespräch zu kommen und dabei nicht den Erwartungen an den Klang schwarzer Musiker zu entsprechen. "Word on Street" wurde von Elle Barbara in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Renny Wilson geschrieben, komponiert, arrangiert und produziert. Renny Wilson hat das Album über einen Zeitraum von acht Jahren aufgenommen, bearbeitet und abgemischt, in denen Elle, eine schwarze Trans-Person, sich sozial und medizinisch neu orientieren musste, während sie von Sozialhilfe lebte und sich häufig von nur 11 CAD pro Woche ernährte. In diesem Sinne ist "Word on the Street" ein Sieg gegen Klassenkampf und Vetternwirtschaft und ein unverschämtes Zeugnis dafür, wie eine einkommensschwache, von der Sozialhilfe unterstützte, schwarze Mann-zu-Frau-Transsexuelle mittleren Alters es geschafft hat, alle Ressourcen zu nutzen, um die Musik zu machen, die ihr vorschwebt, und die Konventionen der Musikindustrie völlig zu ignorieren. Featuring artwork from Spyros Rennt, the thirteen track album traverses a diverse array of sonic landscapes. Spanning doomy post-rave and trance-driven metal to breakbeat-infused industrial pop, the album is united by a genre-defying exploration of the elusive essence of anthemic sound.

Venturing beyond the safety of machines, Ash steps to the forefront with his vocals on Seven Demons and Like Heaven, while From Evil, Weather Prophets, and Satisfaction feature vocal contributions from Zastar of Violent Magic Orchestra, Coy Mistress, and Nova Bruise, enriching the album’s diverse soundscapes.

In addition to his work with Infinity Division, Ash is one half of the doom electronic live duo S.A.T.I.N. alongside Ireen Amnes and is possibly best known for his work in Minimal Violence, a project known for their raw, hardware, punk influenced live performances. Releasing on well known labels such as Tresor and Technicolour / Ninja Tune. Their work was characterized by a DIY ethos and an emphasis on analog equipment, allowing for a direct and visceral approach to production. Now, with Infinity Division, Ash continues to build on a body of work that explores the space between genres, combining an attention to detail through carefully constructed sound design with the spontaneity and raw energy of his live performances. SATISFACTION sets the stage for the next phase of Infinity Division, showcasing a collection of tracks that draw from the essence of the past while reaching out toward a mirage of the future.

Während des Lockdowns in Berlin und Schottland aufgenommen, arbeiten Dot Allison und Anton Newcombe als All Seeing Dolls zusammen. Produziert von Anton Newcombe in Berlin, schickten er und Dot sich gegenseitig Gesangs- und Musikideen, um Dots eindringlichen Gesang mit ihren Fähigkeiten als Multiinstrumentalisten zu vereinen. Auf dem Album finden sich Gitarre, Ukulele, Klavier und Autoharp, gespielt von Dot, sowie zusätzliche Beiträge von Hakon Adalsteinsson (Gitarre) und Uri Rennert. Im Interview mit Clash Magazine sagte Dot über den Entstehungsprozess: "Wir haben unseren Weg gefunden... viele der Songs wurden während des Lockdowns geschrieben... wir sprachen über Musik, das Leben, was wir für wichtig halten und teilten Songs, die wir mögen und sprachen über Künstler, die wir mögen... wir beschlossen, Ideen auszutauschen... also schickte ich etwas mit Autoharp und Stimme oder Akustik und Stimme, und er schickte mir tolle Ideen zurück... wir haben uns gegenseitig unterstützt und gestärkt... und ich sagte zu ihm, dass es ein bisschen wie ein kleines Weihnachten ist, die Tracks zu hören, nachdem er sie zurückgeschickt hatte." Aber keine Sorge: Obwohl es RATS OF GOMORRAH satt haben, wenn einfach nur die müden Klischees eines durchschnittlichen Death Metal-Albums wiedergekäut werden, sind sie nicht einfach vom sinkenden Schiff gesprungen. Tours (France) -based post-psych and deep-shoegaze powerhouse Stuffed Foxes are set to release their third LP, Standardized, on December 6th, 2024, via Bristol’s Stolen Body Records and French labels Reverse Tapes and Figures Libres. Songs / Revolving and Songs / Motion Return, a discographic diptych released in 2022, established Stuffed Foxes as accomplished ambassadors of the French rock scene. True to its predecessors, Standardized was recorded live in the Rennes studio of producer and musician Thomas Poli (Laetitia Sheriff, Dominique A). Mastering was entrusted to Matt Colton (Spiritualized, Swans, Shame). Early on, the six members transformed their youthful camaraderie into an adventure, embracing communal living (sharing a leaky roof had to be an integral part of the ride) and diving into the underground with their label, Reverse Tapes, a source of endless exciting music. They also adopted a democratic approach to creation fueled by endless jams, with the sexted striving to compose together from the outset. It is from this collective spontaneity that the unique expression of their music is born: long, hypnotic tracks, swirling mists of noise, and moments of vocal urgency that should be experienced in person during their invariably cathartic and incendiary concerts. It is a band that strives to stay true to its ethos, its soul haunted but never enthralled by the ghosts of its musical ancestors and battered icons. Standardized opens with Biting the Dawn, a Noise elegy that builds with relentless intensity. Léo's recitative voice soars above a searing blend of saturated guitars and echo-drenched drums. Next, Merry Xmas unleashes sharp, incisive guitar riffs reminiscent of Gang of Four and Fugazi, only to surprise with a dramatic twist that builds to a breathtaking, soaring climax echoing the brilliance of Ride’s most epic moments. Rough Up emerges as a Velvet Underground-inspired ballad, built on two simple acoustic guitar chords and an organ, showcasing a more subdued and vulnerable side of the band. In contrast, Standardized plunges into a powerful trance, unleashing a massive, deliciously primal wall of saturation with raw, unfiltered intensity. With Standardized, Stuffed Foxes appear to have reached an aesthetic milestone, transcending the semantics of the genres that once defined them. After the recent release of the first pre-single, "One Of These Days," the new and fifth studio album by Mother’s Cake, titled “Ultrabliss”, will be released on October 18, 2024, via Embassy of Music (available for pre-order starting July 17).
Inspired by Stanley Kubrick's cult film “A Clockwork Orange” (1971) and largely free from structural constraints of traditional songs, the Austrian band unleashes their musical imagination with the finest jams and dancefloor fillers. “Ultrabliss” unites nine extremely varied tracks with elements of classic rock, krautrock, and prog-rock that are sure to please fans of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd, as well as followers of the Red Hot Chili Peppers or British indie icons like Franz Ferdinand, the Arctic Monkeys, or Kasabian. Like its predecessor “Cyberfunk!”, “Ultrabliss” was recorded at Sevenarts Studio, Überlärm Studio, and Moonwalker Productions Studio, and once again sonically brought to life by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Yves Krismer in collaboration with Manuel Renner and Raphael Neikes. Neikes, who plays guitar and keyboards live, has become the fourth band member. Founding drummer Jan Haußels has amicably left the band after the album sessions and will be replaced by Alex Kerbl on drums from now on.
