Benefitting from a virtually nonexistent noise floor, dead-quiet surfaces, and superior groove definition, this collectible edition reproduces without compromise the textures, details, and breathtaking craftsmanship that help make Court and Spark into what many fans believe is the Canadian native’s finest hour. Notes bloom and decay as they do amid an acoustic live environment. Soundstages extend far and deep, with black backgrounds and balanced tones adding to the uncanny realism.

The reference-grade presence and openness put in transparent view Mitchell’s incisive words and unique phrasing, as well as the contributions of her prized support musicians — including Tom Scott and the L.A. Express as well as guest turns by the likes of David Crosby, Graham Nash, Jose Feliciano, and Robbie Robertson. Lyrically, Court and Spark matches the wit, integrity, originality, and intellect of anything in Mitchell’s oeuvre — no small feat. Mitchell addresses the transactional nature of desire (the intimate title track, the upbeat “Raised on Robbery,” complete with rock ‘n’ roll pep from Robertson and zesty sax from Scott); anticipation and disappointment of romance (“Car on a Hill,” “”Down to You); fame and celebrity (“A Free Man in Paris,” “People’s Parties”); and sanity (the dark and stormy “Trouble Child,” a satirical cover of Annie Ross’ “Twisted”). Throughout, she sings with an emotionally penetrating beauty and devastating honesty that teaches about ourselves.

Or, as Mitchell relays on “People’s Parties”: “Laughing and crying/You know it’s the same release.”

Something About Livingis an album of live recordings by experimental jazz composer/multi-instrumentalist Robert Stillman. The music was captured over the course of Stillman's time as the solo support act for The Smile (Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Tom Skinner). The album weaves excerpts from various theater and arena shows along the tour's North American routing into a seamless whole, creating a 40-minute program that represents an expanded version of Stillman's ever-transforming live set.

Something About Livingis the product of a steady, on-stage evolution that happened over the course of the nearly 60 shows opening for the Smile across the EU, UK, US, Canada and Mexico. However, the creative origins of the set began in relative isolation during the pandemic, through Stillman's work on projects like his multi-media installationUnseen Forcesand his monthly broadcast for Margate Radio, both of which drew upon solo improvisation using saxophone, cassettes, Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, and effects.

"At the time The Smile asked whether I'd like to open for them on their first tour, I felt like I'd already been preparing without really knowing it," says Stillman. "I'd been doing this music constantly, but always for a hypothetical audience" During the pandemic, Stillman's solo set-up served as the research lab where he worked on all the concepts he was interested in: solo improvisation, creating and manipulating cassettes, FM synthesis, analogue delays chains, no-input mixing, and non-metric rhythmic pulses. So when he was offered the first Smile tour, the idea was to bring "the lab" onto the stage.

What Stillman could not have prepared for was the experience of playing in venues with capacities of up to ten thousand listeners. "The first tour was in summer 2022, so not that long after the worst of the pandemic, when I had pretty much made peace with the idea that I might never be able to perform for an audience again. Then all of a sudden I found myself in front of huge numbers of people, and felt the massive responsibility of being with an audience, of this thing I'd done alone for so longactually being witnessed, and it was completely overwhelming!" On the flip-side, Stillman also recalls, was a new appreciation of how powerful the live performance was as a social phenomenon. "It's a cliche, but also true: the moment of making and hearing music in a shared time and space has a very specific meaning and power; there was a sense that everyone in the venue was necessary to make it real, regardless of what they were doing, or how they felt about it. There was an inevitability about it that I'd never fully appreciated."

Over the course of the tours that followed, Stillman transformed this appreciation of the shared moment into an ethic of spontaneity that guided the development of his live set. "An important reference for this set has always been an Animal Collective show I saw when I first moved to New York, probably in 2001 or so, that has always set the high-water mark for what I wanted to do live- they were improvising a lot, and out of what would seem to be absolute chaos they'd find their way to something structured, and then back out again into the unknown. It was so thrilling to witness".

ThoughSomething About Livingcompiles recordings from different dates along the tour, Stillman has edited and mixed them into a work that seeks to reflect the ebb and flow between 'chaos and control' that characterizes his live set. Among the compositions featured are some from previous album releases ("Time of Waves", "What I Owe", "What Does it Mean to Be American") as well as some new compositions ("The Dream of Waking", "Renaissance 2.0," and the title track, "Something About Living").

The album/track title "Something About Living" is a reference to a line from Stillman's favorite film,My Dinner With André: "André Gregory is explaining the value of life experiences that, as he says, are'to do with living'.That really struck me, the way he articulated it. I strongly believe live music situations can ask these kinds of questions, for performers and audiences. I hope that's reflected in this music."

Since first bonding over Slowdive at a Texas karaoke bar six years ago, musicians Uriel Avila and Jonathan Perez have grown trauma ray into Fort Worth's foremost flag bearer of crushing shoegaze. A five-piece rounded out by bassist Darren Baun, drummer Nicholas Bobotas, and guitarist Coleman Pruitt, the band's debut album, Chameleon, captures their evolving sound at an apex of majestic devastation. A fusion of downer hooks, gauzy melancholia, and bulldozer riffs, the album heaves and crashes across 50 minutes of stacked amplifier alchemy. Lyrically the songs trace similarly lofty and brooding terrain; Avila says "The theme is death. And a chameleon, like death, can shape-shift in and out our lives in different forms." Chameleon opens with "Ember," dreamy and distant, alternately anthemic and apocalyptic, defeated and deafening. Lead single "Bishop" perfectly encapsulates trauma ray's depth and dimension, ripping out of the gate with "the biggest, baddest, saddest wall of sound." Lyrics about being burnt at the stake and "tossed in the flame" float above a stop-start assault of precision distortion, eventually expanding into a lush, heavy, sorrowful end coda. "Spectre" is a mysterious, introspective dirge, envisioned as a "mellow, slowcore, Duster-thing," all feeling and heavy fuzz chords (with no lead guitar). Avila wrote it, "to be a hymnal" from the perspective of someone who won't let go - a ghost, an ex, a shadow self. Although the album is rich with subtleties, graceful lulls, and "breaths of air," the band's three guitar attack is its defining force, a power flexed to its peak on "Bardo." Perez's intentions were blunt: "I wanted to write a riff that was hard as fuck." The result is alternately mean and eerie, veering between noisy one string bends and surging headbang, mapping a middle ground between Unwound and early-Deftones. One of trauma ray's greatest gifts is their ability to make doomy, sledgehammer heaviness sound like an earworm, without production tricks or gimmicks: "Riff, verse, chorus, three guitar parts - that's all you need." This quality is particularly apparent on the title track, a churning slab of amplifier worship, swirling chords, and heavenly, defeated vocals about not belonging, shape-shifting, and death ("A twisted face / Void of attention / An empty space / In your reflection"). The latest full length album from Detroit mainstays Slum Village, F.U.N., has now made its way to vinyl. The 12-track project is their first album in nearly ten years and includes fresh collaborations with Larry June, Cordae, Eric Roberson, Robert Glasper , Karriem Riggins, Abstract Orchestra, Sango, Phat Kat, Daru Jones, Earlly Mac, The Dramatics and more. 2015's critically acclaimed Yes! further cemented T3 and Young RJ's ability to effectively carry on the legacy of the seminal rap group, retaining its essence while evolving its sound with fresh new energy. However, with last year's sold out tour in Europe, and the release of the Larry June and The Dramatics-assisted "Just Like You", it was revealed that the duo was back in the lab together working on a new Slum Village album. F.U.N. finds Slum Village expanding on their signature certain sound, but still staying close to their hometown roots: Young RJ explains- “We wanted to just try something new, so we focused on making Disco-inspired music,” and T3 notes that the recording process all “began with collecting old Disco records.” For fans who wonder why the sonic shift, and why the long hiatus between proper albums, T3 says “Slum is still here. We’re still relevant and we’re still trying to push the envelope. Sometimes people put too many rules on music, and without sounding cliche, we wanted to just have fun with this album.” F.U.N., indeed.

David Fricke In upstate New York, deep in the seam between the Catskills mountains and the Hudson Valley, a richly swelling, spellbound sound emerges, eddying and flowing like the local Esopus Creek, or in the slipstream of the grander Hudson river, carrying the flotsam and jetsam of our hopes, dreams, fears. A sound composed of organic and electronic; guitars, keys, brass, strings, woodwind, drums - and a voice of incantations, tapping streams of consciousness that similarly eddy and flow.
Spiritually, literally, psycho-geographically: where else does Mercury Rev’s ninth album Born Horses spring from? This cascade of gleaming, glistening psych-jazz-folk-baroque-ambient quest that searches its soul but can never truly know the answer? A sound and vision linked to their exalted past whilst quite unlike anything they have created before?
The answer is somewhere between the homes of founder members Jonathan Donahue (the hamlet of Mt Tremper) and Grasshopper (the town of Kingston), in their veins and brains of their now-legendary tapping of musical cosmology, and the vital presence of new permanent member Marion Genser (keys), plus long-term ally Jesse Chandler (keys) and guests Jeff Lipstein (drums), Martin Keith (double bass) and Jim Burgess (trumpet). Decoy is a 1984 album by the famous jazz musician Miles Davis, recorded in 1983. Robert Irving III on keyboards took over the role that Miles had assumed with a true sense of harmony and only a rudimentary mastery of synthetic sounds and movements. Irving shared the responsibilities of directing with the trumpet player’s nephew Vince Wilburn, Jr., but Al Foster continued to lead the tempo. John Scofield drew the funk of bassist Darryl Jones in the direction of chromatic abstraction. The two tracks that he co-wrote with Miles are fragments of solos: “That’s What Happened” reprising the beginning of his solo on “Speak” (Star People). Decoy offered a good balance between the dominant funk that subsequently took over and the jazz tradition, reflected by Scofield’s angularities, Marsalis’ freedom of tone and the breath of Miles’ playing that had recovered its full power. Decoy is available as a 40th anniversary edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on smokey coloured vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

Im Januar wurde bekannt, dass Thom Yorke den Soundtrack für Daniele Luchettis Film "Confidenza“ komponiert hat, eine Adaption des italienischen Dramas, das auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Domenico Starnone basiert. Der Film feierte seine Premiere auf dem Internationalen Filmfestival in Rotterdam und wird am 24. April in die italienischen Kinos kommen. Produziert wurde der Film von Indiana Production und Vision Distribution, der Vertrieb erfolgt durch Vision Distribution. Erscheinen wird der Soundtrack am 26. April zuerst digital. Am 12. Juli folgt die Veröffentlichung auf Vinyl und CD. Schon heute erscheint das Musikvideo zur Single "Knife Edge" mit Elio Germano und Federica Rosellini in den Hauptrollen, das eine neu geschnittene Sequenz aus dem Film sowie einen B-Seiten-Track mit dem Titel "Prize Giving" enthält. Der Intro-Track "The Big City" wurde von Yorke im Februar in seiner Playlist für BBC 6 angeteasert.

"Confidenza“ folgt auf Yorkes vorherigen Score zum "Suspiria“-Remake. Dafür erhielt Yorke eine GRAMMY-Nominierung für den besten Song für visuelle Medien erhielt. Produziert von Sam Petts-Davies (Suspiria, The Smile Wall Of Eyes), arbeiten Petts-Davies und Yorke bei "Confidenza“ erneut mit dem London Contemporary Orchestra und einem Jazz-Ensemble zusammen, zu dem auch Robert Stillman und sein Bandkollege von The Smile, Tom Skinner, gehören. 2019 steuerte Yorke Musik zu Edward Nortons "Motherless Brooklyn“ bei und 2022 schrieb er zwei Songs für das Serienfinale von "Peaky Blinders“.

Zuletzt war Yorke mit The Smile (Tom Skinner, Jonny Greenwood, Thom Yorke) auf Tour, die im Januar ihr zweites Studioalbum "Wall Of Eyes“ veröffentlichten,
das auf das 2022 erschienene Debütalbum "A Light For Attracting Attention“ folgt.

Ursprünglich im September 2000 auf Science/Virgin veröffentlicht, festigte Solaris Rupert Parkes' Rolle als unverwechselbare Kraft im Bereich des Underground-Dance und führte einige seiner Zuhörer in die Irre, indem es sich vom mathematischen Drum and Bass seines Debüts Modus Operandi entfernte. Diese Wiederveröffentlichung wird hier mit akribischer Aufmerksamkeit für die Details der ursprünglichen britischen Erstpressung präsentiert und ist auf zwei 140g-LPs erhältlich. Modus Operandi wurde 1997 veröffentlicht und war sowohl ein Kritiker-Liebling als auch ein kommerzieller Erfolg, der Photek als eine Art schattenhafte Leitfigur in der Welt des Drum and Bass etablierte, nachdem er in den Jahren zuvor bei Metalheadz gelernt hatte. Solaris, das drei Jahre später erschien, wurde mit Spannung erwartet; hier spielte Photek mit Form und Genre. Glamorama mit seiner stark verhallten Bearbeitung der Stimme der Künstlerin Marie-Jos Jongerius klingt nicht unähnlich zu David Byrnes und Brian Enos klassischen Cut-ups von My Life In The Bush of Ghosts. Wo Solaris von seinem Vorgänger abweicht, ist der wunderschöne Deep-House-Sound von Mine To Give und Can't Come Down, die beide von der Chicagoer Legende Robert Owens gesungen werden und Photeks Techno-Seele mehr Herz verleihen. Wie um seine Kritiker zum Schweigen zu bringen, zeigten die unerbittlichen achteinhalb Minuten von Infinity, dass nur wenige die Grenzen von Drum and Bass so weit hinausschieben können wie Photek. Photek ist heute ein etablierter Film- und Fernsehkomponist in Hollywood. Dennoch wird seine Arbeit liebevoll in Erinnerung behalten und sehr respektiert.

Both Tymon Dogg and Richard Dudanski had musical roots playing in The 101'ers with future Clash singer/guitarist Joe Strummer. All three shared a deep love for southern Spain, due perhaps to the influence of the Romero sisters, Paloma (later "Palmolive" of The Slits) and the artist Esperanza, who were among the first Spanish punk refugees in London. Tymon's career began with beguiling interactions with Apple Records, The Moody Blues and future Led Zeppelin members John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page before he discovered his true musical self as a punk / folk experimentalist, opening shows for the likes of The Slits, Raincoats and Pop Group and becoming the longest-running musical foil in Strummer's career, continuing into The Clash and Mescaleros. Similarly, Richard played in Basement 5, Public Image Ltd, The Raincoats and others before following Esperanza back to Granada...which subsequently became second home to Tymon and Joe. Spain is not without its own punk heroes, and chief among them was Granada's Antonio Arias, another pal of Joe's and leader of Spain's musical heroes, Lagartija Nick, which also included Dacoits members Juan Codorniu and JJ Machuca. Antonio sings the albums two Spanish-language songs. while Tymon sings the other nine...and there's an instrumental, "Mongols", which the band considered too epic as a stand-alone instrumental to mess with! Tymon sings three songs from his past: "The Wheel Of Life And Death" has been heard before as a live bonus track on the expanded reissue of "Battle Of Wills", "Conscience Money" was heard in a very different version on the impossible-to-find "Made Of Light" album, and an embryonic take of "Something To Prove" turned up the even rarer 1989 solo album, "Relentless". If you imagine the playful elasticity of "Sandinista!" recast into a more straightforward record, with Tymon taking the lead on something more than that album's "Lose This Skin", you're halfway there. Roy Buchanan gilt bis heute als "der beste unbekannte Gitarrist der Welt". Die Rolling Stones wollten ihn als Nachfolger für Brian Jones, Eric Clapton als Gitarrist bei Derek & The Dominos - beides Angebote, die er ablehnte. Roy Buchanan war ein Meister auf der Fender Telecaster-Gitarre, sein Spiel beeinflusste Musiker wie z.B. Gary Moore, oder Jeff Beck maßgeblich. Roy Buchanan wuchs in Kalifornien auf, wo er auch Gitarre lernte. Als Teenager zog er nach Los Angeles und spielte mit Spencer Dryden (später der Drummer von Jefferson Airplane) in der Band Heartbeats. Danach tourte er mit Dale Hawkins und spielte mit Robbie Robertson (The Band), der Buchanan später als einen seiner Haupteinflüsse bezeichnete. In den 60er Jahren heiratete Roy Buchanan, zog nach Washington DC und arbeitete als Studiomusiker an mehr als 100 Produktionen, vornehmlich für Freddy Canon und Leiber/Stoller. Erst 1971 erschien sein erstes Solo-Album, was dazu führte, dass er und sein unnachahmliches Spiel auf der Fender Telecaster von Größen wie John Lennon, Eric Clapton oder den Rolling Stones als Geheimtipp gehandelt wurde. Die ab 1985 aufgenommenen Alben "When A Guitar Plays The Blues" (1985), "Dancing On The Edge" (1986) und "Hot Wires" (1987) gehören zu den Highlights seiner Karriere. Nur drei Jahre vor seinem tragischen Selbstmord wurde dieses Rockpalast-Konzert am 24. Februar 1985 in der Markthalle in Hamburg aufgenommen. Ein Auftritt, bei dem Roy Buchanans Genie als Gitarrist in einzigartiger Weise überzeugt - nicht zuletzt durch seine kongenialen Cover-Versionen u.a. von Jimi Hendrix oder Don Gibson. Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass Roy Buchanan seine Qualitäten vor allen Dingen bei seinen Auftritten ausleben konnte, von denen nur wenige aufgezeichnet wurden. Ein beeindruckendes Vermächtnis!

Der in Brooklyn ansässige Komponist, Arrangeur, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist Sly5thAve präsentiert "Liberation", eine 2LP mit Auswahl von Originalkompositionen und Reorchestrierungen, die die Schönheit und Gewandtheit der Jazzmusik feiern. Feat. MonoNeon, Roberto Verástegui, Robert “Sput” Searight, Nate Werth.

Liberation" ist das neue Album des Produzenten, Komponisten, Arrangeurs und Multiinstrumentalisten Sly5thAve. Sly5thAve überwand kreative Schwierigkeiten und konzentrierte sich darauf, sich selbst treu zu bleiben, und fühlte sich nach der Fertigstellung des Titeltracks "Liberation" befreit - ein Gefühl, das den Titel des Albums prägte.
Liberation" entstand aus einem Demo, das vor fünf Jahren während Sly5thAves erstem Versuch, das Album zu konzipieren, entstanden war, und ist inspiriert von geliebten Blaxploitation-Filmsoundtracks und ikonischen Künstlern wie Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch, Herbie Hancock, Gordon Parks & J. J Johnson.

Der Grammy-Preisträger Sylvester Uzoma Onyejiaka II alias Sly5thAve ist bekannt für seine ausgefeilten Kompositionen. Sein Sound ist geprägt von seinem Glauben an Hip-Hop und seinem tiefen Verständnis von Soul, R&B und Jazz. Er hat eine große Anhängerschaft im Underground und wurde von berühmten Musikern wie Jarobi White (A Tribe Called Quest), Dr. Dre, Questlove und The Roots sowie dem Schauspieler Martin Freeman unterstützt.
Großen Respekt hat er sich durch seine Arbeit mit einer Reihe von hochkarätigen Musikern erworben, darunter Prince (als Mitglied der New Power Generation Band), Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, das Dave Brubeck Quartet, Taylor Swift, Janelle Monae, Freddie Gibbs und Quantic. Sly5thAve ist als Mitglied von Ghost Note, Quantic und mit seinem eigenen Nebenprojekt IGBO auf Tournee gegangen und hat Alfa Mist auf seiner Nordamerikatournee unterstützt.

Vor allem seine orchestrale Hommage an Dr. Dre, "The Invisible Man", erntete viel Lob und Aufmerksamkeit und wurde sogar von Dr. Dre selbst bewundert.
