Cat Stevens veröffentlichte 1967 sein Debütalbum „Matthew & Son“ und etablierte sich damit in der FolkClub-Szene. Der Musiker aus dem Herzen Londons erreichte mit Matthew & Son Platz 7 der britischen Charts. Die Singles ”I Love My Dog” und ”Matthew & Son” - letztere erreichte Platz 2 in Großbritannien - machten ihn zum Teenie-Idol.

Gleichzeitig wurden Cats Songs von anderen Künstlern gecovert, zum Beispiel von The Tremoloes, die mit ”Here Comes My Baby” ebenfalls 1967 einen Hit hatten, der seinen Ruf als begnadeten Songwriter begründete.

The Vampisoul chicas are back. And for the third time. And, although collectors and connoisseurs have never stopped playing the songs by these Spanish female singers, here they are again, sounding as vibrant as they did half a century ago. Because these children of their times, the musical decades of the 60s and 70s covered by this compilation, boldly ventured into the limited spaces of freedom open to female artists back then. And they did so with attitude, in search of the right repertoire, proudly presenting new, daring personal projects often breaking away from the demure tone adopted by mainstream local female singers. And they were canny about it too. Realizing that the censors working back would just listen to the song that the record company flagged up as the listening target on the A side and not bother to flip the single over, they recorded many of their racier songs on the B side. That exciting dark side of singles, which have long tempted collectors. Lacking the freedom and visibility enjoyed today, these daring records by these female singers went as far as they could and a few managed to go beyond. The songs on this compilation tell everyday stories, narrating small socio-musical conquests revolving round the enduring theme of young love. Sass, sex, boy-girl rivalry, the defense of liberating women's fashion and, saying what women think loud and clear, all characterize these grooves. Performed in a variety of musical styles ranging from ye-yé, twist, disco, beat, popcorn, flamenco pop to Northern Soul, and, even more surprisingly, sung in an everyday, natural and self-assured tone that must have ruffled some feathers. As in previous volumes of "¡Chicas!", this third compilation includes female singers from outside Spain but whose career, their decision to sing in Spanish or their long tours and local stays, and occasionally permanent residence, meant their albums were created, recorded or produced here in Spain. "Let's 'ave It!", ruft man wütend, wenige Augenblicke, bevor abgerechnet wird, wenn man entschlossen ist, die Sachen SO nicht durchgehen zu lassen - komplett die Nase voll von allen und allem hat! "Let's 'ave It!" zischt man seinen Gegner an, wenn man unerschrocken und kampfbereit ist.
Alles, was oben aufgeführt ist, fasst die allgemeine Einstellung der SKINFLICKS gut zusammen, wahrend sie ihr neues Album vorstellen, als Nachfolger ihres überaschenden, eigentlichen Comeback-Albums von 2022, "Old dogs, new tricks".
THE SKINFLICKS sind zurück und bleiben es auch. Die Band hat Blut geleckt und meldet sich sofort zurück: "Let's 'ave It!" schießt eine weitere, kompromisslose Breitseite an knallharter Oi-Musik der alten Schule ab, welche Melodie niemals als Schwäche, sondern als integraler Bestandteil des rauen THE SKINFLICKS- Gesamtsounds ansieht.
Die Themen der Songtexte fallen diesmal sehr persönlich aus, was jedoch nicht heißen soll, dass an der für die Band typischen, bitteren Gesellschaftskritik, gepaart mit bitterem Humor, gespart werden würde. Vom Opener-Hit "This is the crew" an wird klar: ihr seid eingeladen auf eine Rauf-Tour mit den 4 Jungs, und sie nehmen euch mit in ihre Welt.
So spaziert ihr mit ihnen durch ihre Heimatviertel, welche in unheilbarem Wandel begriffen sind mit "Gentrified for your sins", ihr singt mit zum Takt der häuslichen Gewalt mit "Blood and glass", ihr begegnet feigen Schreibtischtätern in "Tin Pot soldiers", welche verdeckt Schüsse aus der vermeintlichen Sicherheitszone vor ihren Computerschirme aus abfeuern. Ihr schaut der Crew dabei zu, wie sie mit persönlichen Gegnern sowie mit der Gesellschaft im Allgemeinen direkt abrechnet in "Get on yer bus", "Fuck all", "Bored" und anderen. Ihr werdet selbst zur Ordnung gerufen in "Teach 'em the law" und ihr erhaltet volle Unterstützung mit "Stand fast".

"Der aus Belém do Para im Norden des Landes stammende Ary Lobo war bereit, seinen Wahlkampf im Süden des Landes zu beginnen und machte sich im Oktober 1955 auf den Weg nach Rio de Janeiro. Dort stieß er auf die üblichen Vorurteile des Südens gegenüber Sängern aus dem Norden, und erst nachdem er Gadé, einen angesehenen Pianisten, kennen gelernt hatte, konnte er sich ein Vorsingen bei Rádio Mauá sichern. Doch diese Chance hätte sich beinahe in eine Katastrophe verwandelt, da er in einem so schwachen Zustand zu dieser Sitzung erschien, dass er nicht auftreten konnte. Die unzureichende und unregelmäßige Ernährung hatte seine Atmung beeinträchtigt, so dass es unmöglich war, seiner Stimme die nötige Kraft zu verleihen. Glücklicherweise wurde das Vorsingen verschoben, und bei seinem zweiten Versuch konnte er sich einen Fünfmonatsvertrag mit dem Sender sichern, wo er als Samba-Sänger bekannt wurde. Als sein Ruf wuchs, wurde er bei RCA unter Vertrag genommen im Juni 1956." Die Musikszene in Rio wurde auf den Newcomer aufmerksam, der die Persönlichkeit eines nordöstlichen Sängers mit tiefen Wurzeln im afro-brasilianischen Erbe pflegte. Er begann das neue Jahrzehnt mit dem Album "Aqui mora o ritmo" (Hier lebt der Rhythmus), das 1960 veröffentlicht wurde und von vielen als sein bestes Werk bezeichnet wird. Wie so viele Genres erlebte auch der Forró seine Blütezeit, aber Ende der 1960er Jahre begann seine Popularität zu schwinden, und Ary Lobo war gezwungen, auf der Suche nach Arbeitsmöglichkeiten von einer Stadt in die andere zu ziehen. Schließlich kam er nach Fortaleza, wo er bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1980 lebte. Unter den Sängern und Songschreibern, die in den 1950er Jahren aus Pará hervorgingen, erlangte Ary Lobo einen für seine Zeit einzigartigen nationalen Ruhm.

mellifluous ‘Music Of The Earth' by Patrice Rushen,
these two discs form a rite of passage into the creative
mind of a true musical legend.

Musikalisch frisch und zackig wie eh und jeh knallen uns auf der neuen Veröffentlichung neben Highspeed-Punksongs natürlich auch die für WIZO so typischen manisch-melancholische Erzählstücke und furios melodische Ganzkörperschüttler um die Ohren. Augenzwinkernd und zeitgemäß untermauert der WIZO erneut seinen Ruf als zuverlässige Größe des Genres, die noch einiges zu sagen hat.

Trym Søvdsnes is a relative newcomer to the scene, but he’s been putting in work in and around Bergen for years, scoring a residency at the infamous Café Opera, where he snagged the attention of local house legend Bjørn Torske. Soon, the duo were DJing, producing and performing together, eventually running the monthly radio show Pigs in Space where they would go head-to-head for six hours at a time, plumbing the depths of their immense record collections.

It’s this lust for bottom-of-the-crate oddities that guides Søvdsnes’ self-titled debut album, a concoction of dub techno, hard-swung house and percussive club music that positions itself a few paces away from any conventional modes. Basically, a perfect fit for Le Jazz Non.

‘Gølles Dans’ opens with a filtered acid bassline and bone dry kick that’s like some psychedelic, slower variant of Basic Channel’s ‘Enforcement’, slicing into the groove with gristly acoustic percussion that drags it up from the basement. The producer leans into asymmetry on ‘Døgnrytmen’, wrangling 303 squelches with booming Berghain kicks and tight snares, enhancing the psychedelic potential by layering ticking percussion into loopy spirals. If you’ve ever caught an extended Dozzy set, this is the kind of ruff-edged gear he would likely play an hour before sunrise. ‘Ordnings Mix’ is weirder still, slopping chirpy bleep/rave stabs into a jazzy hybrid that sounds like a bossa meltdown.

Søvdsnes saves his most cosmic mettle for last, on ‘Cowboy Acid (Solstikk Dub)’ he strips the kickdrum to a faint knock, before building up into a sort of screwed Metro Area mirrorball that sounds brilliantly out of time.

Frozen Mugs started out back in 2020 as a soon-to-be classic hip-hop collaboration between "Maylay Sparks", Swedish producer “K Sluggah” and “Clever 1” (one half of “Da Buze Bruvaz”). You will experience an uncanny chemistry between these 2 high caliber emcees who are providing you with the traditional sharp, tenacious, aggressive & grimey wordplay over K Sluggah's cinematic, soulful, and psychedelic beats giving the listeners a vivid picture of what goes on in these dangerous times. The hard delivery and complex word patterns are descriptive gestures of loose women, action in the streets, cocktails & cold beer guzzling. Sonically this album is honed to be a masterpiece, with owner of the newly formed label “Blacbird Recs”, and revered studio engineer Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo (Ruffhouse Recs. CEO) behind the mixing board. This is hip-hop with an attitude, authentic, and with no compromises!
In the midst of recording this project, we experienced a severe tragedy as we lost the incomparable Malik B formerly from the Roots. The last days before his passing he recorded the verses for the album and he was supposed to record a few more as there were talks of him becoming a full fledged "Frozen Mugs" member. Sadly the talks of doing an album with Malik B on HHE never came to fruition. This project is dedicated to one of the most legendary emcees Philly ever bred and he will always be remembered as a lyrical giant. R.I.P.

Ruff Stuff teams up with Bress Underground for a long-awaited return to SB... a new collection of Deep House tracks of the highest order from these Italian House Heads. 'Foundations' is a steam roller of a track calling on Ruff Stuff’s love for Mr.G, with some tasty French House accents adding a nice funk factor. 'Sliding Sine' makes us wanna go felt pelt on an Autobahn with its rich bass stabs under late night synth echoes with tough drum programming.

Bress Underground comes aboard to collab on the next two tracks and makes his presence felt. 'The Community' is a punchy gospel House cut with crackling vocal samples and trippy chord patterns. 'Something About It' closes the EP with expertly chopped vocals and jacked out grooves, more catchy chords, and some irresistible rolllllling London style bass.

mule musiq welcomes british producer jimmy wallace, presenting his debut album “red, yellow, black” - a nine track strong record that partly leaves the dancefloor behind.

since childhood, music has been a strong influence on the 33-year-old artist. his mother, a music teacher, exposed him to classical sounds from an early age.

but it was hearing the electronic tones of the french touch movement, which really ignited his mu-sical journey. a year later he started to dj, acting out his love for four-to-the-floor grooves in local clubs. today you'll find him on the bill with artists like ruf dug, mr scruff, or bradley zero, heating up the dance floors.

as a producer he has already released a handful of stunning eps, including one for sweden’s finest house label studio barnhus, and one for london’s revered rhythm section international imprint.

both feature house tunes with an edge, house tunes with a love for the roots of the genre along-side more reflective, ambient moments. he also runs the label tartan records, where he publishes dancefloor focused white labels.

his music has been championed by titans of the scene such as palms trax, ryan elliott, dj tennis, gilles peterson, dixon, and hunee. axel boman even coined his debut ep as “one of the very best demo emails ever received at label studio barhnus hq”.

an advance praise, that wallace now acknowledges with an album full of deeply crafted music. some tracks lean towards the dancefloor, like the swung sounds of “bubbles”, the hypnotic mael-strom of “good morning”, or the epic, jazzy moments of “labyrinth”.

the theme of nature is evident throughout, with field recordings and environmental sounds he rec-orded on the road, being fused with his own musical ideas.

tracks like “waterfall” and “tokyo street”, draw influence on time spent in asia, whereas "dhq", "by the river", and "by the lake" are inspired by his childhood and hometown in the shropshire country-side. “i’ve been writing ambient and more nature focused material for a few years now without really having a plan for it.

finally, this year after writing the tune “labyrinth” i felt i had a body of work which was both diverse and cohesive enough to bring together on a record. so, the album represents moments of time i have spent in various outdoor spaces around the world, using sound to try and turn these experi-ences into musical format.” wallace discloses.

Cult band Asian Dub Foundation’s singer Ghetto Priest takes also part of the project with « Rasta Corner », MC Caporal Negus joins Manudigital on « Dub and Bass » and on tour, and Jolly Joseph sings on « The world is Hell » for the Reggae Dub tracks of the album. In terms of surprises, Manudigital takes pleasure in inviting benchmark artists in each musical genres, walking through Lo Fi Hip-Hop’s path with the Dancehall President aka Skarra Mucci on « Fi Di Youths », Baile Funk with Punjabi-American rapper Alo Wala and their song « Love on Tap » or even Afrobeat with Dynamq for the last song « Piki Piki ». Portrait of Art Farmer enthält Aufnahmen aus dem Jahr 1958 und war das erste Album von Art Farmer, das unter dem Label Contemporary Records von Lester Koenig veröffentlicht wurde.

Obwohl Art Farmer erst 1958 (dem Jahr, in dem dieses Album aufgenommen wurde) in der Down BeatUmfrage zum ”New Star” des Jahres gewählt wurde, hatte sich sein Ruf unter Musikern aufgrund seiner Arbeit mit Lionel Hampton, Gigi Gryce und Gerry Mulligan bereits etabliert.

Obwohl er für sein Flügelhorn bekannt ist, hat er viele Jahre lang eine vergleichbare Lyrik als Trompeter erreicht, wie diese Seiten zeigen.

Mit einer Rhythmusgruppe, zu der auch sein Zwillingsbruder, der verstorbene Addison Farmer, am Bass sowie der Pianist Hank Jones und der Schlagzeuger Roy Haynes gehören, ist er hier mit drei Originalen (zwei davon sind Blues) und fünf anderen geeigneten Stücken wie Benny Golsons ”Stablemates” zu hören.

Farmer war der Meinung, dass dies das beste Album war, das er in dieser Phase seiner Karriere gemacht hatte.

Die Drum ’n‘ Bass Pioniere Chase & Status melden sich am 27.Oktober 2023 mit einem neuen Album zurück! Auf „2 RUFF, Vol.1“ veröffentlicht das Duo zehn neue Tracks, darunter Kollaborationen mit einigen der angesagtesten britischen Newcomer*innen (u. a. Arrdee, Flowdan und Takura). Chase & Status bleiben ihrem unverwechselbaren Drum ‘n‘ Bass Sound treu und erschaffen eine energiegeladene Klangwelt, die stark aus der britischen Clubkultur beeinflusst wird. Trotz oder genau wegen dieser Underground Attitüde
kann das Duo große Erfolge vorweisen, ihr Album „No More Idols“ (2011) wurde in Großbritannien mit Doppelplatin ausgezeichnet.
