X-Plode is a master of the 1992 rave sound. Listening to any one of his tracks, you could easily imagine them being part of a Top Buzz set back in the early 90’s. Hailing from Bolton, Lee aka X-Plode self-released his debut EP on white label in ’92, which would go on to be a highly collectable item and in turn would prompt Vinyl Fanatiks to track him down, which was not easy I can tell you, in order to repress it in 2020.

A friendship was born and in turn Lee was inspired by the interest in his old EP when reissued that he decided it was time to start making music again, 27 years after he downed tools. And we are very luck he has, because he is a rare talent, with an ability to capture an era in music so genuine and respectful that you would struggle to even tell it was made in the 21st century.

This is X-PLode’s second EP on Amen Brother and another EP has been made for a new label run out of the Vinyl Fanatiks stable called Acid Boom, where Lee showcases his unique ability to perfectly capture another era of British dance music… Adddiieeeeddd!

The remix otherwise, is a faster interpretation remixed by the Dub techno producer from S. Francisco, Federsen. A wonderful relaxed track full of details able to bring you inside Kelly's rhythm.

Bekannt wurde Jones, der für "seinen rauen, kraftstrotzenden Bariton" (dpa) bekannt ist, als einer der Sänger und Haupt-Songwriter von Durand Jones & The Indications. Sein Solo-Debüt führt Jones nun von dieser hochgradig kollaborativen Band an einen Ort, der weitaus verletzlicher und einzigartiger ist, und bestätigt seinen Platz an der Spitze als modernen Vorreiter der Southern Black Music. Die Stadt sowie Jones' Reflexionen sind ein Gewirr von Widersprüchen: Die unberührte Schönheit und die zerlumpten Straßen; sein jugendlicher Wunsch, wegzugehen, und sein erwachsener Wunsch, seine Wurzeln zu ehren; die Geschichte der Plantagen und das Auf und Ab der schwarzen Gemeinde, die Hillaryville erst zum Blühen brachte und dann unter ihrer langsamen, systematischen Verwüstung litt. "Lord Have Mercy" die rohe und ungestüme erste Single des Albums, erinnert an den charakteristischen Muscle Shoals-Sounds, der Elemente aus Gospelmusik, Blues, Soul, Rock und Country verbindet. Mitten im Herzen des Südens, wo R&B und Rock'n'Roll aufeinanderprallten.

Auch auf dem vierten Album von Motor!k konzentriert sich die belgischen Avant-garde Künstler Joeri Dobbeleir (Gitarre/ Synthies), Dirk Ivens (Guitar/FX) und Dries D‘Hollander (Drums) auf das Wesentliche: Hypnotische Bassläufe, rhythmusgebende Drums und repetitive Gitarrenschleifen sind die Essenz, aus der psychedelische Retro-Träume entstehen. Erneut ohne Gesang setzen Motor!k auf ihren schon traditionellen sechs Tracks eine Dynamik frei, die komplett aus dem temporeichen Zusammenspiel der drei Protagonisten erwächst und das Gefühl einer spontanen Jamsession aufkommen lässt. DEAD SEA APES are back with a passion to deliver their most essential and cohesive album to date. Formed in 2009, DEAD SEA APES have become a fixture of the psych scene, sharing stages with the likes of Part Chimp, The Heads, Acid Mother Temple and Mugstar while producing a distinctive body of work, ranging from psychedelic punk to experimental dub, from freeform jams to constructions of loops and drones. Following a slew of collaborations and split releases, REWILDING sees them return to a power trio of Brett Savage (guitar), Jack Toker (bass) and Chris Hardman (drums). From the chaotic blast of opener ‘Denialist’, beaming out like a maniacal emergency broadcast, through to the monolithic pounding of the title track, REWILDING is unrelenting, taking in blown-out guitar wails and jet black psych noise while the irrepressible rhythm section moves from claustrophobic motorik beats to a thunderous rolling juggernaut. These blackened pearls have been recast and refined over the course of the past three years, strung out deeper than the night and now embodying our present uncanny, disorienting times, as we emerge into an altered world to find Mother Nature reasserting herself while the human madness intensifies, locally and globally. Chalke aka Life On Mars aka Forces Of Nature is a bit of a mystical legend in the drum & bass circles. An old school friend of LTJ Bukem, the two of them grew up together in North London and it is down to him that Bukem started to DJ, with Chalke as his original MC!

This is the second release Chalke has done with Vinyl Fanatiks – his first was VFS002 which has long since sold out and already a collectable repress on Discogs.
Chalke was so far ahead of the curve in his production and ability to create tracks that surprisingly these two tunes were written in 1993 and 1994 and pre-date the whole ‘intelligent’ drum and bass movement that took over the globe in the mid-90s!

Both tracks were never released and have sat on DAT for 30 years… until now. ‘Moonbase Alpha’ is a cult track in the drum and bass world as it was played by Bukem during the mid-90s, both in his sets and on his Kiss show. Deep, rolling and beautifully progressive for the era. ‘Quosh Up’ is equally as stunning, musical and rolling… like one of Bukem’s DJ sets during the Good Looking era.

Veyl welcomes Blind Delon to the label for their third album, La Métamorphose. Founded in 2016 by Mathis Kolkoz, the project released several EPs leading up to their first full length, Discipline (Khemia / Unknown Pleasure Records, 2019) and their subsequent follow up, Chimères (Manic Depression, 2020). Originally a three
piece before the departure of guitarist Theo Fantuz after their second album, the project then focused on refining their sound and energy through alternative projects and more EPs before adding a new member ahead of their latest opus. The band currently consists of Mathis Kolkoz (Vocals, Guitars), Coco Thiburs (Bass) and Thom Mayor
(Synths, Guitars).

Fueled by cold bass lines and synthesizers of yesteryear, French post-punk and black romanticism, Blind Delon shatters genres and styles to create an evolved strain of synthpunk that wears its influences proudly while mutating into something totally new. La Métamorphose represents a fresh direction - a heavy, post-metal sound that’s full of emotion and raw intensity. 'Le Crépuscule' opens the album with a hard hitting piece that commences the experience perfectly. Next up, the group kicks things into high gear with the speedy, heavy-synth play of 'La Violence' featuring vocals by Fivequestionmarks, followed by 'La Mort', a blackened post-punk cut
featuring the one and only Curses. Label head Maenad Veyl makes a guest appearance on the fourth track, 'L’Homme', which drifts into deep experimental melancholy with a cinematic feel.

Keeping with this mood is the powerful 'L’Affront' featuring The KVB, which descends further into darkness before resurrecting with the immense feelings of 'Le Sarcasme'. Track seven, 'La Noyade', drills into the skull with growling vocals and menacing synths which bleed nicely into 'La Foule', slowing things back down with a subtle yet lingering sense of dread. French project Poison Point arrive on 'L’Envie' which moves guitars back to the forefront for a raucous ballad that sets up the final piece and title track, 'La Métamorphose', the glorious grand finale of an album teeming with emotion and begging to be played again
and again.

The second collaborative album from Laetitia Sadier Stereolab & solo and Brazil's Mombojó. Release via Stereolab's Duophonic Super 45s imprint. Modern Cosmology is a musical ensemble composed of six individuals of the human race, none of which are cosmologists or astronomers, although Felipe S. - who sings and plays the guitar - knows quite a bit about reading astrological charts. He shares his frontperson duties with one Laetitia Sadier who, by virtue of her singer-songwriter career both as a solo artist and as part of the Stereolab ‘groop’, happens to be one of the key figures of her bandmates’ musical formation. Their paths first crossed when Marcelo - also on guitars - lent his amp for some of Laetitia’s solo concerts in Brazil under the condition that he got to meet his musical idol, and along came his brother Vicente - who plays the drums - and keyboardist Chiquinho. The four lads, plus Missionário José on bass, are collectively called Mombojó, an established band on the Brazilian alternative scene.

The 12” also features brand new re-recorded brass mixes of ‘Last Chance’, a track from previous album ‘Cruelty Without Beauty’. A huge fan favourite, the track was according to Marc Almond, “the natural successor to Say Hello, Wave Goodbye and one of my preferred Soft Cell songs period, why was this never a single?’. The re-reworked versions by Dave Ball and album producer Philip Larsen are now adorned with a full live brass section.
