Lonnie Smith’s 1970 album Drives was a showcase of the organist’s sense of adventure and indomitable groove. With Dave Hubbard on tenor sax, Ronnie Cuber on bari sax, Larry McGee on guitar, and Joe Dukes on drums, Smith delivers funky takes on hits ‘Twenty-Five Miles’ and ‘Spinning Wheel’, plus a fleet version of Miles Davis’ ‘Seven Steps to Heaven’. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

How did Dexter make a TV audience sympathize with a serial killer? No question, it took an ingenious premise, great writing, great direction…and a stellar ensemble cast headed by lead actor Michael C. Hall. But long-time viewers of the show know there was another “character” that played a huge role in the series: the soundtrack. From Rolfe Kent’s unforgettable title theme to the well-chosen Latin-tinged tunes that fit the Miami setting to composer Daniel Licht’s brilliant themes, the score of Dexter commented on the action even as it amplified its emotional power. Special mention must be made of the late Licht’s work, which employed Latin and electronic elements to portray Dexter’s warm and cold sides; among the favorites here are “Astor’s Birthday Party” and the haunting “Blood Theme” that played over the credits in every episode. In 2007, the Milan label put out a CD and a truncated single-LP soundtrack album containing music from the first season; now, for the first time, we at Real Gone Music are offering all of the music that appeared on the CD in an expanded double-LP edition, pressed on blood with white swirl vinyl and housed inside an appropriately gory gatefold. People Of Earth hits release number 20 with Part 2 of The Elements series again offering some super deep sounds from Patrice Scott, Allstar MotoMusic aka Dan Piu, Alton Miller & KemeticJust, which is a cut first released on the old SOCO Audio label. Scott's 'Cycles' kicks off with super deep kicks and heady pads swirling up top, 'Not My Home' (feat Roger Versey) then brings some majestic jazz keys and spiritual vocals and Miller's 'Italio Love' is a strident cut with leggy kicks and celestial pads. KemeticJust's 'Taking Flight' shuts down with more heavy beats but still romantic moods.

While the densest shadow of the Moon, the umbra, does not reach the Earth, only the partial shadow, the penumbra, is projected onto the Earth. During this event, a gust of wind approaches, hiding within it a mysterious and palpable energy. This natural phenomenon serves as the inspiration to launch the first chapter of the Thama Series titled "Eclipse of Existence."

Under-recognized tenorman Clifford Jordan blew in from Chicago with a trio of excellent Blue Note sessions in 1957 including Cliff Jordan featuring a septet with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, John Jenkins on alto, Ray Bryant on piano, Paul Chambers on bass & Art Taylor on drums. 1965’s Dialogue was the debut by vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson who had already proven himself a versatile sideman on albums from Idle Moments to Out To Lunch. Dialogue showcased his more adventurous leanings with a sextet featuring Freddie Hubbard, Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill, Richard Davis & Joe Chambers. Series of taboo records present its third release a split EP featuring two artists. The first artist is the established Copenhagen producer Terry Tester, two-decade long career as a turntablist and beatmaker his eminent take on house, hip hop and soul has been commissioned by artists such as Gilles Petterson for his ‘Bubblers’ compilation series on Brownswood or for the BBE remix together with DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Terry’s latest outings has yielded spins from influential selectors such as Soulection, Carista, Alexander Nut (NTS), Mr. Beatnick (NTS), Marina Trench, EVM 128, James Rudie and Sassy J (Red light Radio).

The second artist is the talented producer Jay Sound, keyboardist and composer based in Detroit, known in the scene with productions played by artists of the caliber of Funkineven, Benedek and many others.
