Symphonische Extrem-Heavy-Metal-Band aus Stockholm - gegründet und geleitet von Multiinstrumentalist und Songwriter Zorn. Nachdem er sich von Dark Funeral trennte, war er entschlossen, mit seiner neuen Band Zornheym den traditionellen "Metal-meets-Symphony"-Ansatz aufzurütteln. Zornheym entwickelte sich schnell von einer ambitionierten Idee zu einem dramatischen musikalischen und narrativen Konzept, das sich um die Schrecken einer psychiatrischen Anstalt und ihrer Häftlinge drehte. Vier Jahre, nachdem die Tore der Anstalt erstmals erdacht wurden, wurden sie mit der Veröffentlichung des Debütalbums endlich geöffnet. Wo Hass wohnt und Dunkelheit herrscht. " Dieses Album stellte das erschreckende Konzept des Asyls und die darin enthaltenen schrecklichen Charaktere vor. Zornheym's Sound wurde als kraftvoll und filmisch beschrieben und das zweite Album lädt dazu ein, diese Erfahrung in "The Zornheim Sleep Experiment" fortzusetzen, das tief im Inneren der Anstalt stattfindet. Mit einem echten Chor und einem Streichquartett kreieren sie erneut ihre Klangwand und lassen die Geschichte in einer Graphic Novel zum Leben erwecken, die die Geschichten des Albums begleitet und erweitert.

Zornheym debütierte auf dem französischen Motocultor-Festival und sie haben ihre energiegeladenen, bombastischen Erfahrungen auf vielen weiteren Festivals und Veranstaltungsorten in ganz Europa weitergegeben.

In 2021, nyMusikk's annual festival of sound, "Only Connect", commissioned an interpretation from I LIKE TO SLEEP of the first movement of Olivier Messiaen’s Turangalila symphony. A project which initially led to a 15-minute piece performed at the festival, with the trio re-writing the music of Messiaen, but also rewriting the music of their own. Messiaen as a reference and compositional tool may be heard in the album for those really listening for references. With “Sleeping Beauty” the trio also explore even heavier riffs than before, seasick grooves and tempi, and deeper ambient soundscapes. Through extensive improvisation, the effects and processing of the sounds are way more extreme than before, almost awakening the sleeping beauty. During the pandemic, the band also had to find new ways to write music without the presence of every member, introducing the vibe-samples from the old Mellotron sound gallery to the band. Quarantillity, one of the themes which appears several times throughout the album - almost used in a similar way as the flower theme in the Turangalila symphony - is a direct result of sitting alone in quarantine, playing the Mellotron while listening to vibraphone extraordinaire Bobby Hutcherson. This theme could also be seen as a continuation of the previous album tracks named Pause I & Pause II from “Bedmonster” (2017) and “Daymare” (2020). Like “Daymare”, “Sleeping Beauty” was recorded in Duper Studio in Bergen, co-produced with the band’s all-time favourite sound wizard Jørgen Træen. It is also mixed and mastered by Træen, making the music sound as brutal, intense and intimate as experiencing I LIKE TO SLEEP in a live setting. “Infernal, scrotum-shrivelling energy sorely missing in today's music” said Jazzwise about their previous album, mentioning King Crimson, Magma, Tony Williams Lifetime, electric Miles and 60s free energy jazz as possible references. But that’s only one side of the story, there are plenty of quieter moments at work here, and the dynamic range is wide. Nicolas and Øyvind first met in high school in Trondheim before they joined up with Amund in a youth big band. It soon became apparent that they shared the same musical background centered around 70s progressive rock, classical music, jazz and improvisation. Taking their name from a Thelonious Monk quote, I LIKE TO SLEEP was formed, first for fun, but soon with higher ambitions, winning the prestigious "Young Jazz Musicians of the Year" award in 2018. Still only in their early 20s and still studying jazz at NTNU in Trondheim, they are also active as composers, freelancers and in other projects and are among the most promising on Norwegian scene. Now a two-times Number 1 Album artist in the UK, the second of Jack’s albums to hit the UK Top Ten was 2016’s ‘Sleep No More’. Featuring the original’s 12 classic songs - including fan favourites like ‘When We Were Lovers’ and ‘Only You’ - this new expanded limited edition gatefold 2LP set on dark green vinyl supplements the original album with bonus live and acoustic tracks - many previously unavailable on vinyl. Other highlights include ‘Whiskey Tango’ and Jack’s stunning cover of ‘Always On My Mind’.

In the spring of 2020, Willem Ardui and Jean-Valéry Atohoun of blackwave. found themselves in a difficult creative and personal period and in need of a change of scenery to recharge. They find their peace in the cosmopolitan melting pot of Los Angeles, the City of Angels, and for Ardui and Atohoun also a city of dreams. A dreamworld in which they rediscover themselves as artists and as individuals.



The spark from which blackwave. had emerged in 2016 caught fire again during their 20-day trip to the American West Coast. With renewed passion, inspiration and vision, the duo writes and works on new music, as if in a daze, day and night, with no limits to the creative process. With about thirty demos in their pocket, Ardui and Atohoun fly back to Belgium. Three days later, the first covid-lockdown hits them cold and the regained enthusiasm slowly ebbs away. Another period of uncertainty began, and at one point it was even doubted whether the group would continue to exist...



But the towel is not thrown in the ring. blackwave. starts polishing the American demos and distills 11 tracks from them. These now make up 'no sleep in LA', their second full-length album and follow-up to 2019's successful 'ARE WE STILL DREAMING?' 'no sleep in LA' is about the highs and lows of the past years, the insights they have gained, the difficulties and the beautiful moments. Everything about the record feels a lot more mature as a result. Existential themes are explored more and more deeply. Doubt and uncertainty, depression, grief and loss, dreams and ambitions, nostalgia, love and desire, no stone is left unturned.



The album also exudes maturity on a musical level: it is more compact in length than its predecessor, but the instrumentation is more in-depth. Strings, horns, backing vocals and other session musicians enrich the genre-transcending sound of blackwave. Everything is arranged to perfection without being delineated. The common thread is the thoughtful and lively lyrics of the two frontmen, and the layered production of Willem Ardui. To this end, Ardui received help on a number of tracks from the likes of Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots), MiSCHiEF BOY (Cantrell), Spencer Petersen (Sego), Tobie Speleman (incidentally mixer of the entire record), and even his younger brother Remco Ardui.



Celebrated guest features include Lute (signed to Dreamville, J.Cole's label), Abhi The Nomad (artist from Austin, Texas who met the duo in LA) and Caleborate (a good friend and old friend to blackwave. fans). Kirby, who has already collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé and Kanye West, co-wrote the song "I Miss" on the album.

Constructed in the initial chaos of the pandemic, Baby Blue’s dystopian debut LP “End Of Sleep” finds solace in the unearthly home of Planet Euphorique. 7 offerings from the Canadian artiste dive deep into a heightened reflective state; an amalgamation of memories stitched together via looped dissonance and destruction. A contrast of lightness and dark constantly working against each other and at times in harmony; a familiar connection that can be found in complex electronic music and mental states alike. Strap in and be guided through a wormhole of cyber analog journeys, thematic explorations and catastrophic calls to celestial beings.

Ethereal echoes of LSG break in the opening of the record, fleeting cries nodding to ancestry; yet A Rainy Trip To Netherworld Sequence embraces the storm. Knee jerk kick distortions disrupt the angelic hypnosis; reality rolling through the clouds. The sequential energy continues through A2 and A3, driving and rolling viciously with heavy contorted noise infiltrating the low end whilst flickers of melodious song sail unbothered, thriving amongst the destruction. The Spring Is Coming feels like a seasonal change, a melting and defrosting; thawed harmony shining through; textural and flowing with movement, a perfect bridge.
An arguably more delicate chaos emerges on the B side, elongated pads stream endlessly whilst drums cultivate and expand into sudden frisson. Fragile voices begin to gate and sweep in Equal Parts Damaged, lingering and ringing through ear drums whilst glued in rhythmic unison to induce a state of floating, a game of elevated push and pull. Syncopated howls of distortion leads the closing track, Violet summarizing the brilliantly confronting conversations pulsating through the record.

PE016 urges you to join the otherworldly personal journey and sufferings of Baby Blue, a moment to connect with her meditative dreams and struggles; sonic synergy expanding to anyone with the invitation to surrender.

Australian techno pioneer Biz is back with another ep of serious grooves. He creates a vibe that seduces the soul yet also has the tough elements that work so effectively on the dancefloor. This is the fourteenth release on Biz’s own label cliq which was founded in 2002 and is a reminder that Australian techno is unstoppable…serious vibes all round!!

Sleep Researchers is about a journey, which I haven't finished yet so I don't know what it sounds like. My father reads a few lines, betsy sings into a walkman and over the microphone of a toy casio. I bought a new Portastudio which has the buttons stuck, so when I get it running I record it in ableton. I like the way the sounds blend together on that old machine. The debut EP from lilo calls to mind the ethereality of Laura Marling, but that is only the first glimpse of the versatility of lilo’s sound, their new material is set to break new ground in the UK indie-folk landscape. They hold the promise of a more full-bodied, band-driven direction, weaving elements of slow-core and offbeat country-pop refractions. lilo weave intimacy into the fabric of their music; through collaboration they translate friendship into sound.

The UK underground entity only known as Sleep Token, fronted by Vessel, began the Sundowning ritual June 20th 2019 with ‘The Night Does Not Belong To God’. Sleep Token began to release their ‘offerings’ bi-weekly, released Thursday’s at Sundown BST with accompanying visualizers. Each offering had its own emblem, establishing the Sleep Token universe on the debut album Sundowning. This June 18th, 2021, the cycle begins again but born anew. The new album 'This Place Will Become Your Tomb', pushes the boundaries of Sleep Token's sound into new avenues of blurring genres while still retaining the signature sounds you'd expect. War Scenes continues his techno, hardware odyssey, returning to Instruments Of Discipline with his third EP, ‘Induced Sleep’, featuring a crushing remix from Ayarcana. Induced Sleep is a concept EP, the soundtrack to a generation who have signed themselves into suspended animation to wait out the strife of their times.

Cressida has carved a space in the hollows between UK bass culture and Berlin's techno heritage, skilfully siphoning the finer side of breakbeat, garage, grime without ever falling into lanes of predictability. This sonic identity he's built has firmly levelled up with "Can You Sleep Like This" - his most personal record to date. This is Cressida not just paying an ode to UK electronic music lineage, but cementing a place within it.

In My Sleep is the debut vinyl release from French producer Margee. Having gained a loyal following last summer with a remix for Tommy Guerrero, released on Music For Dreams, this EP showcases his natural ability at creating low-slung, densely layered productions, perfectly aimed at the dancefloor.

The release also features two heavyweight remixes. The first of these comes courtesy of underground House legend DJ Nature, who takes the title track and gives it a completely new twist with his inimitable ‘ruff disco’ stylings. Hailing from Bristol (via New York), recent years have seen Nature release on Futureboogie, Golf Channel and Jazzy Sport.

The second remix on the release comes from Hardway Bros (AKA Sean Johnson). Having been an early champion of Margee’s work on his regular ALFOS streaming marathons, Sean took the second track on the release, Wrong Dream, and went into heavy-dub mode. The resulting remix clocks in at just over 11 minutes and is everything you’d expect from him, and more…

Margee said of the release ‘In My Sleep started while taking a shower. The bassline popped up in my mind and I ran out as quickly as possible to record it. From there, I got pulled into a deep emotional trip with groovy tones and dirty sounds. Wrong Dream is actually a lost project that I had to start over again. It turned out to be more fierce than the first one, experimenting with arps and fuzzy synths, while keeping a certain groove that was easier to reproduce.’

In My Sleep is the second release from London based label Other Goodness, following on from Bawrut’s ‘Divergent Emotions’ EP last year, which quickly became a mainstay of the live-streams and a DJs favourite.
