'British-born Canadian from Vancouver Island and Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Lauren Spencer Smith releases her debut full-length album, Mirror, on July 14 via Island Records/Republic Records. Mirror, features 15 profoundly moving, personal records, tells a story filled with autobiographical ups and downs. The title Mirror is Personal and Deliberate. “I’ve been working on this album for years. It has been with me through so much in my life, the highs and the lows, and it means more to me than I can put into words. It tells a story of reflection, healing, and growth.” says Spencer Smith. “I went through a hard breakup, and the album tells the story of that all, the journey of that and now being in a more happy relationship.

The very definition of ‘70s soulful jazz, Where I’m Coming From has all the hallmarks of Prestige Records at its finest, with an all-star cast of sidemen (The legendary Idris Muhammad! Hello to Madlib’s uncle, Jon Faddis! Greetings to the funky flute of Hubert Laws!) recorded at Van Gelder’s studio and packed with down and dirty grooves top to bottom. From the opening cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” through to the low-slung original headnodder “Where I’m Coming From,” with stops along the way for dips into the catalogs of Curtis Mayfield (“Give Me Your Love”), Marvin Gaye (“Trouble Man”) and the Four Tops (“Keeper Of The Castle”), Leon Spencer’s rippling organ lines sear this prime example of groove jazz. This 180-gram reissue of Where I’m Coming From! was cut from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI, and comes packaged in a tip-on jacket.

As deem spencer gets into the flow of his purpose, that is being a provider, he’s cautioned by overarching worries of impending doom. The 27-year-old emcee has heard that in the next lifetime, New York City could be underwater – but even in these current tides of chaos, the native reflects and retraces his upbringing while wading towards a hopeful future on his third album, adultSW!M.

Five years into his journey, deem has elevated his craft while remaining grounded in the likelihood of being on to greater heights. Introspective in nature, deem’s abstract quality is both intrinsic and groundbreaking in the contemporary New York hip-hop landscape.

Yet, neither of their fanbases know how closely affiliated they are, so Greenthumbs Meets Trigger Fingers comes as a complete surprise. On October 21, 2022, Merge Records will release Pigments, the debut collaboration between New Orleans electro-revival dynamo Dawn Richard and multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Spencer Zahn. Pigments is a project about the power of self-expression through living art, through motion. It's also a love letter to New Orleans, Louisiana. Not strictly classical, jazz or ambient electronica but rather a body of "movements," Pigments is an expressive soundscape that is an immersive passage through the city as seen through the eyes of a young Black girl with dreams to paint her future with the pigments given to her. Richard explains: "Spencer wanted to create one long piece of music that would ebb and flow around my lyrics and emotions, which tell a story of growing to love my own skin. I wanted my voice to be moss surrounding the roots of Spencer's compo - sitions, never forcing the moment to fill every space but rather reveling in the openness of thought and breath." Zahn agrees, saying, "I wanted to work with all these different textures, tones, and colors to have a new sound to frame Dawn's voice and lyrics. To hear a lone clarinet as the breath fades and a cello continues its melody to cue Dawn's vocal entrance is unlike any other record she has made. These are things that excite me as a composer but more as a listener. I hope that other listeners feel the same." Coming on the heels of Dawn Richard's critically acclaimed Merge debut Line, Pigments will introduce listeners to a different facet of Richard's outrageous talent and bring Zahn's thoughtful creativity to a new audience.

Rund 20 Jahre sind Dub Spencer & Trance Hill im Musikbusiness unterwegs und nach wie vor hungrig wie eine Raupe im Blätterwald. Vermeintlich dominierte dabei stets die Dub-Komponente, egal, ob sie humorvoll-intelligent mit Weihnachtsliedern, Spoken Words oder Italo Western vermischt wurde. Doch spielte immer auch das Elektronische, Psychedelische, der "Trance" eine wichtige Rolle im Schaffen der europaweit bekannten Schweizer Band. Nun endlich erhält diese Facette ihren gebührenden Platz auf dem neuen, zwölften Longplayer des Quartetts: "Imago Cells" heißt das Album und markiert eine Metamorphose. Aus dem Alten entsteht also das Neue, und so verschmilzt der Dub mit Elektronischer Tanzmusik oder besser: "Trancemusik"? Die Tracks stehen klar im Zeichen des Up-Tempos und laden zum Raven ein. Weiter ist auch das Klangbild noch bassiger und psychedelischer geworden, ohne jedoch den organischen Touch zu verlieren. So blubbern, echoen und grooven denn die acht Songs tierisch gut, klingen unverkennbar nach Dub Spencer & Trance Hill und zugleich versteht man, dass der einzige Weg das Neue ist. For the producer, it was an exciting new opportunity to team up with an emcee who’s gruff-voiced, hilarious, and can out-rap anyone on the planet. “Plus, my past Coalmine projects have their own neo/prog-boom-bap vibe, and ‘Mudslide’ continues that particular sonic blueprint,” Small Pro said. And for fans of that sound, you’re not going to find a better example of that sound than this album. It’s just as experimental as it is steeped in the traditions of rap thanks to Vic’s boundary-pushing rhymes and Small Pro’s immensely satisfying instrumentals. Tracks like “Lil Jon’s Weed Stash,” “Ew McNasty’s Revenge,” and “Selfcare Welfare” marry psychedelic vibes with grounded and clever lyricism. Another immediate standout is the lead focus track “Pitfall Music,” which features a mean-mugging guest verse from Flee Lord with cuts supplied by acclaimed turntablist, DJ Revolution.

Limited White Teal & Beige Vinyl. Spencer Zahn's second record for Cascine emerged from a series of piano sketches born of daily improvisations in Kingston, New York, where he relocated during the pandemic after 14 years in the buzz of Brooklyn. Inspired by the space and pace of upstate life, he explored a more restrained, resonant mode of playing, letting chords delay all the way to silence, until the seeds of songs took shape. Zahn accompanied himself on upright bass, finessing each piece without cluttering it, focusing on the notion of "the instrument in a room. Recruiting long-time collaborator Andy Highmore for piano duties, the duo booked time at Figure 8 Recording in Prospect Heights to craft the lulling, lyrical 12-track suite of Pale Horizon. The tonality of the instruments was central to Zahn's vision, fusing them to feel like a single entity, with upright bass blending in an elegant gradient with the low strings on the piano. An air of Keith Jarrett and Ryuichi Sakamoto hangs over the collection, acoustic and unhurried, stately but subdued, ruminative daydream melodies heard on the breeze in a quiet garden.

Spencer Miles Abraham Allen, wie er mit vollen Namen heißt, stammt aus Rochester im State New York. Schon mit seinem Mittelnamen Miles, natürlich angelehnt an den großen Miles Davis, gaben seine Eltern ihm eine Musikkarriere gleich mit in die Wiege. Während die künstlerische Laufbahn langsam ins Laufen kam, blieben diese dennoch skeptisch. Als Spencer. das College nämlich für die Musik verließ, um an seiner Karriere zu arbeiten, waren seine Eltern alles andere als glücklich darüber. Er gab ihnen das Versprechen, wenn es mit der Musik nicht klappen sollte, binnen eines Jahres zurück im Hörsaal zu sein. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte er dann aber ein paar Millionen Streams bei Spotify und einen Plattenvertrag bei 4AD in der Tasche - sein Platz im College bleibt wohl vorerst leer und auch seine Eltern können wieder ruhig schlafen. Von Fader und Pitchfork als einer der Acts für 2021 proklamiert, kann Spencer. selbstbewusst vorausschauen. Mit seiner Single "Automatic" hatte er 2019 bereits einen kleinen Underground-Hit gelandet…

Spencer, geschrieben von Steven Knight, zeichnet sich nicht nur durch die hochkarätige Filmbesetzung aus.

Kristen Stewart als Prinzessin Diana von Wales, wird neben Jack Farthing, Timothy Spall, Sean Harris und Sally Hawkins auch von einem einzigartigen Soundtrack begleitet.

Der Soundtrack, zum Film, geschrieben vom renommierten und ausgezeichnetem Komponisten Jonny Greenwood, welcher bereits mit Filmmusik zu Phantom Thread, There Will Be Blood und Norwegian Wood begeistern konnte, verleiht der bewegenden Geschichte von Prinzessin Diana Einzigartigkeit.
