1974 erscheint Georg Danzers Konzeptalbum "Der Tätowierer und die Mondprinzessin", begleitet von einem Buch mit Texten und Illustrationen von Georg Danzer. Die zehn darauf enthaltenen tiefsinnigen Lieder, die unter anderem unter der Mitwirkung von Willi Resetarits und seinen "Schmetterlingen" sowie Robert Ponger, Christian Kolonovits und "Supermax" Kurt Hauenstein entstanden, haben bis heute Relevanz. Georg Danzers Manager und guter Freund, Franz Christian "Blacky" Schwarz, initiierte und leitete die Wiederveröffentlichung dieses künstlerischen Schatzes.Für die Neuauflage wurden die Original-Mischbänder aus dem Jahr 1974 verwendet und von Othmar Eichinger von TON Eichinger, Wien aufwändig restauriert, digitalisiert und gemastert. Die Reihenfolge der Lieder stimmt nicht mit der Original-LP überein, sondern wurde dem Ablauf der Geschichte angepasst. Die Liedtexte wurden auf die tatsächlich gesungenen Versionen umgeschrieben. Die Geschichte selbst ist die Originalversion. Franz Christian Schwarz über die Entstehung des Albums:Es war 1974, es war Februar und es war kalt. In Peter Müllers Tonstudio herrschte reger Betrieb. Georg Danzer saß auf einem Sessel und klimperte auf der Gitarre und sang leise den Text dazu. Vor sich auf einem schon in die Jahre gekommen Tisch lagen einige mit Maschine beschriebene Blätter. Ab und zu hielt er beim Spielen inne und korrigierte den zur Melodie passenden Text. Zwischendurch machte er auch kleine Zeichnungen mit Wachskreide, die das gleichnamige Buch illustrieren sollten. Nach und nach waren die Musiker wie vereinbart mit ihren Instrumenten gekommen. Es herrschte eine fast familiäre Stimmung. Es wurde Kaffee getrunken, geplaudert, gescherzt und gelacht. Peter mahnte zu Disziplin und wies den Herren - denn die Schmetterlinge, der Chor mit Dame, waren erst für den nächsten Tag eingeplant - ihre Plätze zu. Das Klavier hatte seinen fixen Platz und rundherum wurde nun postiert. Peter hatte einen genauen Plan, wer wo stehen sollte und aus tontechnischen Gründen auch musste. Das Schlagzeug kam in ein abgeschirmtes Kammerl mit einem Glasfenster, der Bass mit Verstärker kam nach links hinten, gegenüber wurde das Gitarren-Set ebenfalls mit Verstärker aufgebaut. Die Orgel musste auch noch Platz finden und die Percussion wurde hinter einem halbhohen Paravent platziert, damit der Musiker Sichtkontakt mit den Kollegen und dem Tontechniker halten konnte. Jetzt noch Mikrofone aufstellen, verkabeln, justieren und dann Tonproben. Nun war alles bereit. So in etwa hat Georg gerne vom ersten Studiotag zu den Aufnahmen für die nun in einer Spezialversion zum 50 Jahre-Jubiläum vorliegenden Vinyl-Schallplatte erzählt. What swirls together on Got A Story To Tell is an appreciation of decades of soul music, and beyond - a sound and feel that is timeless, lived in, and very much in the now. Album opener “Lucid Girl” champions independent women, set to some of the toughest sounding drums and bass the band has yet to put to tape. “Waiting On The Right Time” slinks with a touch of slow-burning psychedelia. A plea for empathy punctuates “One and the Same,” with Lane singing: “We’re one and the same, I feel one day / We learn to live with each other / In love, not fear / Just for a moment, why can’t we be together.” “On My Mind” is a sweeping orchestration, with Lane navigating the complexities of finding happiness while balancing the good with the bad. Tokyo-based emerging label INFODUMP Recordings, led by Takuro Hasumi, who captivated audiences with the unique and left-field “Fafrotskies vol.1” released in 2023, has eagerly released a new work titled “Fafrotskies vol.2”! The EP features three tracks that subtly color the dance floor:

“High Fidelity” (A1): A mid-tempo, synth-driven, minimalistic, and romantically imaginative time-warp house track at BPM 113.
“Sparta” (B1): A tribal left-field house track with added electronic and experimental elements, clocking in at BPM 122.
“S.I.M” (B2): An industrial, cut-up loop awakening trip with a stoic parallel groove, flying low at BPM 123.

Erste offizielle Veröffentlichung auf Vinyl! Kim Wildes sechstes und letztes Studioalbum für MCA Records erscheint endlich auf Vinyl in Form dieses liebevollen 2LP-Sets auf weißem 140Gr. Vinyl. 'Now & Forever' wurde 1995 ursprünglich nur auf CD und Kassette veröffentlicht. Kim und ihr Bruder und Producer Ricki entfernten sich dabei vom Pop-orientierten Sound früherer Alben und gingen einem zeitgenössischeren elektronischen Soul-Vibe entgegen. Eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem in London ansässigen DJ-Produzenten und Remixer C.J. Mackintosh (M/A/R/R/S, Nasty RoxInc.) bei vier der Tracks half dabei, ein Album zu schaffen, das Einflüsse aus Gospel House, Dance und Loop-Beats enthielt. Zu den weiteren Autoren und Mitwirkenden gehörten Pam Sheyne, die später 'Genie In A Bottle' für Christina Aguilera mitschrieb, und Tony Swain, der als eine Hälfte von Swain & Jolley R&B-beeinflusste Klassiker für Imagination produzierte. Über diesem fesselnden neuen Klangbett lieferten die Wildes eine Reihe sofort eingängiger Melodien, nicht zuletzt auf den beiden Singles 'Breakin' Away', und 'This I Swear'.

Das vierte Studioalbum, das Kim Wilde für MCA aufgenommen hat, wird endlich auf opak-orangefarbenem Vinyl neu aufgelegt. Gleich fünf Singles aus 'Love Moves' wurden veröffentlicht - 'It's Here', 'Time', 'Can't Get Enough (Of Your Love)', 'I Can't Say Goodbye' und 'World In Perfect Harmony' - alle mit dem großartigen, voll entwickelten Pop-Sound der späten 80er, den Kim zu ihrem eigenen Markenzeichen gemacht hatte. Zum ersten Mal ergänzt diese Vinyl-Edition von die ursprüngliche Vinyl-Trackliste um zwei herausragende B-Seiten in Form von 'Virtual World' und 'SanjazzMegamix'. Obwohl das Album damals in GB nicht die kommerziellen Höhen seines Vorgängers 'Close' erreichte, war es in ganz Europa ein Hit, insbesondere in Skandinavien.

Zur Feier des 35. Jahrestages von Chris Isaaks bahnbrechendem Album ”Heart Shaped World” erscheint
nun eine 12” Reissue. Sein drittes Studioalbum, das im Sommer 1989 veröffentlicht wurde, enthält seinen
Durchbruchshit ”Wicked Game”, der auf Platz 6 der Billboard Hot 100 landete. Lee Chesnut, Musikdirektor
bei WAPW in Atlanta, spielte den Song zwei Wochen lang wiederholt, nachdem er eine Version auf dem
Soundtrack zu David Lynchs Film ”Wild at Heart” von 1990 gehört hatte.

Paul Heaton will release a brand new solo album ‘The Mighty Several’ on 11th October featuring new single ‘Fish ‘n’ Chip Supper’ (out now). Produced by legendary producer Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds and recorded at Blueprint Studios in Salford, ‘The Mighty Several’ features 12 new original songs, performed by Paul and his band + a number of special guest singers including Heaton’s regular live vocalist Rianne Downey as well as Yvonne Shelton and Danny Muldoon (all of whom are pictured on the album sleeve alongside Paul). Heaton has also announced a huge November/December UK tour including shows at Leeds First Direct Arena, Glasgow OVO Hydro, Liverpool M&S Bank Arena & Nottingham Motorpoint Arena ending in London with a show at the famous Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith. Special guests on all dates will be The Zutons

Big Crown Records is proud to present the reissue of one of Brooklyn’s most sought after “holy grail” soul records, YIA Talent Hunt Winners. Youth in Action, Inc. (YIA) was formed in 1963 when the Central Brooklyn Coordinating Council received a grant to develop a youth services program in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. It was originally organized to identify and address the social problems that were leading to the high crime rate in Bed-Stuy. Recently the Smithsonian Museum of African American History released an archive of footage filmed by a community activist, which shows the real-world effects of the group’s efforts: young people engaged in sports, the arts, and other activities to better themselves and their world. The appearances by Jackie and Bobby Kennedy point to the group's relationship to the Great Society programs of President Lyndon B. Johnson. What there is no mention of in either the NMAAHC’s collection of YIA materials nor in the Brooklyn Public Library’s also extensive collection is this talent show and the record that came to be because of it.
Local vocal groups chose tunes to cover from the era (1964 - 1968) ranging from The Rascals to The Intruders, from The O’Jays to Billy Stewart. All of these groups were backed by a local act called The Thrillers Band. The winners of the talent contest were then invited into the studio to record their versions which would be pressed up on this record and given away to local radio and TV stations. The hope of the whole thing was that this would help the young groups get discovered by producers and record labels and start their professional music careers. The intro to the album is Reverend Horace Tyler congratulating the winners and asking them “to just remember, when you reach the top and become our big stars of tomorrow, don’t forget YIA”.
What this album may lack in fidelity and production it more than makes up for in charm. The engineers at the recording sessions pump in pre recorded applause and screaming to give the it the feel of the day of the contest while the young groups sing their hearts out, clearly giving their all. From today’s perspective, soul music fans will lose it over the choices of covers on this record and the killer, raw, innocent performances of them by these local Brooklyn groups. The Channels 4, Carla & The Carlettes, The United Souls, Sharon Seabrook & The Starlettes, and The Destinations all won that day and got to take place in this record. It makes you wonder, and even pine for the performances of the groups who didn’t make the cut, even if just to find out what tunes they covered, or better yet, were their original songs written by some of them for this contest?
It is with great pleasure that we make this available to the public again. This is a truly rare record, and an awesome piece of New York History.

Produced in Los Angeles at the studios of Mario Caldato Jr (Beastie Boys, Seu Jorge, Beck, Bjork, Blur, John Lee Hooker, Manu Chao).

They have toured the US including Central Park Stage, NewOrleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Outside Lands. They performed on NPR's Tiny Desk and they were booked on Bonarroo 2020 before its cancellation.

Jupiter & Okwess previous album is also available on CD/LP. 'Kin Sonic" was voted Best Album by the NY Times in 2018 and a pick on Obama's playlist that year.

You may not have heard of Long Beach O.G. Greg Royal aka Pür Royale, but you're definitely familiar with his work. With a resume of remix, production, engineering, and editing work ranging from Dr Dre's "The Chronic" to Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative", to the dub version of Patrice Rushen's "Feels So Real", Greg left an indelible mark on contemporary black music from the mid-80's to mid-90s.

In 1993 however, a one off 100 copy house 12" self titled as "Royal Phenomena" on the surface didn't seem to quite fit with the more traditional hip-hop and r&b output of his extensive discography. I only found out it existed through connecting with another unsung west coast pioneer, Aaron Paar, for Must Have's 2016 Teflon Dons compilation. Greg is credited as a mixing and recording engineer on practically every release on Aaron's own consistently excellent label Worldship. After listening to Aaron tell his story, it was clear Greg's studio experience and mentorship were key elements in the development of Aaron's signature tough SP-1200 house sound. "Royal Phenomena" remains an elusive connecting point for LA hip-hop and underground deep house, and Greg and Aaron remain friends and frequent collaborators.

Aaron put me in touch with Greg, who miraculously kept his original DAT tape recordings of these unique house excursions and was happy to finally share them with a wider audience. Blending hip-hop production techniques, west coast Latin sleaze, midwestern minimalism, and a dash of UK bleep, the LA underground house sound remains singular.

Still Music Chicago is thrilled to announce the reissue of Jiraffe's ''Out'A The Box,'' a legendary dance record from New York City. Originally released in 1988 on Goldqwest Records, this track emerged from the collaboration between Richie Weeks and Al Smith. This limited 12'' release includes a full sleeve with a never-before-seen picture of Richie Weeks with Vaughan Mason at Vaughan home studio and a story of ''Out'A The Box''. Richie Weeks, known for his work with The Jammers and Weeks & Co, founded Goldqwest Records after Salsoul Records closed. Inspired by his friend Vaughan Mason, Richie ventured into house music production, recording demos that caught the attention of Reynald ''Crazy Frenchman'' Deschamps of M.T.I Exports. A generous supporter funded Goldqwest's third release, leading to Richie and Al Smith creating ''Out'A The Box'' at Al's home studio in Philadelphia. The track blended post-disco, dance, latin, and proto-house elements, achieving cult status among DJs worldwide.

Contexture is another classic example of a true friends & family gathering. The Nijmegen based imprint, running for over 12 years was born out of a tight group of friends with the same passion. 12 years later, their strongest releases are still based on this exact same principle, collect and release music from the inner circle. Julien Fuentes, Dorcas label head, starts things easy with his Klaridub ambient mix. It's quickly followed by familiar ESHU faces Jocelyn and Yasin Engwer, classic dub techno beats from the ESHU vaults. There's also room for new faces, the recently launched collaborative project between Vand and Shoal as Voal dropping their 'Eight Ball' as their ESHU label debut. Flawless minimalistic grooves that make a perfect fit for their long awaited contribution. Label head Ivano Tetelepta teams up with Pirat Records own Christine Benz. After sharing the DJ booth together multiple times they also joined forces in the studio recently and crafted this squeeky techno drifter. There's also an additional 10", exclusive to the ESHU Bandcamp, includes two beats from Klaridub, bringing some excellent smoke ready, head steady dub-techno cuts.

The highly anticipated follow-up to Thee Sacred Souls's breakout 2022 self-titled debut, Got A Story To Tell, features 12 all original new songs, a soaring statement of exquisite craftsmanship from this young band from San Diego whose story grows bigger by the day. Recorded and produced by Gabriel Roth at Penrose Recorders, in Daptone’s Riverside, CA studio, and written in the throes of supporting their 2022 album, which was met with significant excitement and major touring that brought them across the world. What swirls together on Got A Story To Tell is an appreciation of decades of soul music, and beyond - a sound and feel that is timeless, lived in, and very much in the now. Album opener “Lucid Girl” champions independent women, set to some of the toughest sounding drums and bass the band has yet to put to tape. “Waiting On The Right Time” slinks with a touch of slow-burning psychedelia. A plea for empathy punctuates “One and the Same,” with Lane singing: “We’re one and the same, I feel one day / We learn to live with each other / In love, not fear / Just for a moment, why can’t we be together.” “On My Mind” is a sweeping orchestration, with Lane navigating the complexities of finding happiness while balancing the good with the bad. The album is punctuated with strings and squelching guitar, trundling piano, pops of conga, horns - it makes for a thrilling, layered listen that rewards with multiple spins.

Sein Album “Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head)“ erscheint sechs Jahre nach dem Grammy-nominierten Album "Black Times" und einen entscheidenden Moment in Seun Kutis glanzvoller Karriere und zeigt seine Entwicklung als Künstler und Aktivist. Produziert von dem legendären Musiker Lenny Kravitz und Fela Kutis ursprünglichem Tontechniker Sodi Marciszewer (künstlerischer Produzent), verspricht „Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head)“ ein Klangerlebnis wie kein anderes. Mit der Expertise von Kravitz und Sodi und dem unvergleichlichen Talent von Seun Kuti bleibt das Album den Wurzeln des Afrobeat treu und definiert gleichzeitig die Grenzen der zeitgenössischen Musik neu. Seit wir vor drei Jahren über das Album gesprochen haben, war er als ausführender Produzent dieses Projekts immer an unserer Seite und hat uns sehr unterstützt". "Ich möchte mich bei Craig Ross und Sodi, dem Produzenten dieses Projekts, bedanken. Wir hatten eine großartige Zeit. Seun Kuti ist ein nigerianischer Musiker, Sänger und Songwriter, der für seine fesselnden Auftritte und seine gesellschaftskritische Musik bekannt ist. Er ist der jüngste Sohn des Afro-Beat-Pioniers Fela Kuti. Seun hat die meiste Zeit seines Lebens damit verbracht, das politische und musikalische Erbe seines Vaters zu bewahren und zu erweitern, und zwar als Leiter der ehemaligen Band seines Vaters, Egypt 80. Als aufstrebender Saxophonist und Schlagzeuger trat er in die formellen Reihen der Band ein, bevor er 12 Jahre alt war. Als Fela 1997 starb, übernahm Seun Kuti auf Wunsch seines Vaters die Leitung von Egypt 80, die er seither innehat. Im Laufe seiner Karriere hat Seun Kuti 4 Alben mit Egypt 80 veröffentlicht: `Many Things' (2008), `From Africa with Fury: Rise for Knitting Factory Records" (2011), koproduziert von Brian Eno und John Reynolds, "A Long Way Beginning" (2014) und das für einen Grammy nominierte "Black Times" (2018), das ein Feature von Carlos Santana enthält. Außerdem haben sie zahlreiche EPs veröffentlicht. Seun hat vor einem begeisterten Publikum auf der ganzen Welt gespielt und mit vielen großen Künstlern zusammengearbeitet. Im Jahr 2022 schloss er sich für die EP "African Dreams" mit dem Roots-Frontmann und MC-Extraordinarius Black Thought zusammen. Im Jahr 2023 arbeitete Seun an Janelle Monaes "The Age of Pleasure" (Grammy-Nominierung für das Album des Jahres) mit den beiden Singles "Float" und "Knows Better" mit, tat sich mit Talib Kweli und MadLib für deren Album "Liberation 2" bei dem Song "Nat Turner" mit Cassper Nyovest zusammen und veröffentlichte eine neue Version der Single "Bad Man Lighter" mit Black Thought und Vic Mensa.
