'Oh Snap' features twelve very personal songs by Salvant (plus a cover of a verse from the Commodores’ 1977 hit “Brick House), mostly recorded outside of a traditional studio environment, and which showcase her genre-spanning tastes and influences. The MacArthur Fellow and three-time Grammy-winning singer and composer wrote these short, intimate songs as part of a creative quest: to place spontaneity and joy at the centre of her writing process, and originally recorded them alone, at home, never intending for them to be released, using digital tools and effects that she had never played with before, like GarageBand, Logic, AutoTune, Midi plugins, drum loops, vocal effects, reverb, and filters. The songs reflect Salvant’s wide-ranging musical influences from her 1990s childhood in Miami—from boy bands to grunge to classical to folk—and include party tracks with beats, samba grooves, and quiet folk songs. The album features longtime collaborators Sullivan Fortner, Yasushi Nakamura, and Kyle Poole, as well as cameos from singers June McDoom and Kate Davis.

Gwenan Spearing, known for her perceptive, groove-oriented DJ sets, and more recently as a live performer working with hardware improvisation, launches a new imprint, Phase Space, with Degrees of Freedom, a debut album diving deep into generative electronics, modular systems, and real-time response. Composed and recorded in 2019-2020, the album treats constraint as creative fuel, floating between ambient,
sonic sculpture, and improvisation, mapping Gwenan’s path from rural Wales to Berlin’s outer zones of experimental sound.
Sync opens with a theme on a slow triangle wave, expanding the space as it evolves. Some Pluck explores generative counterpoint using LFOs and Euclidean rhythms. Generator I unfolds in an oscillating time where keyboard and bass circuits cross-modulate. Was hat es mit dieser ,Augendisko" auf sich? Man hat sofort ein Bild vor seinem geistigen Auge: funkelnd, glänzend, leuchtend, irgendwie speziell. Das passt auch ganz wunderbar. Dabei war der Auslöser für die ,Augendisko" vergleichsweise banal. Marcus Heider (als sein Alter Ego ,John Krempl" Kopf der Band) war nach dem letzten Album gezwungen, sich mehreren Augenoperationen auszusetzen. An sich eine natürlich unangenehme, aber letztlich auch seltsame und fast überirdische Erfahrung. Wie beschreibt man das Flimmern und die Farben, die vor einem tanzen, wenn man im Dämmerzustand auf dem OP-Tisch liegt? Richtig, ,Augendisko" trifft es am besten. Die ,Augendisko", die dem Album seinen Titel gibt, ist ein Sehnsuchtsort - bizarr, bunt, vielfältig wie die Musik. Und das Geheimnis rund um die Augenklappe von John Krempl haben wir nun auch gelüftet. Es ist kein modisches Accessoire, sondern eine Notwendigkeit bei der Real Life Bildschirmarbeit und somit willkommener Teil des Bühnenoufits. Songs: Wir treffen uns in der ,Augendisko", eine ungestüme und hymnische Rocknummer, die auf ein furioses Bass-Schlagzeugfinale zusteuert. ,Johnny gegen den Rest der Welt" ist ein Streifzug durch das Leben von Johnny, dem Protagonisten vieler Love God Chaos-Songs. Der bisher längste Love God Chaos-Song ist aufbereitet wie eine üppige, ungewöhnliche und überraschende Netflix-Serie, getragen vom Czech Film Orchestra. Der wohl bisher thematisch ungewöhnlichste Song in der Karriere der Grazer Band ist ,Im Kopf von Lisa Eckhart". Ein dunkles und groovendes Lied, das weniger Hommage sein will, sondern eher eine Unterstellung ist. Wer weiß schon, was in den Köpfen anderer vor sich geht? Egal, Hauptsache es ist ,alles wunderbar". ,Bistro d'Amour" ist eine schelmische Abrechnung mit den Ex-Freunden von Johnnys Liebster. Was tun, wenn gar nichts mehr hilft? Love God Chaos empfehlen ,Mach dein Voodoo". Nach der lässigen und zugänglichen Nummer geht es weiter mit ,Muss das so laut sein". Ein Satz, den wohl jede Musikerin und jeder Musiker schon mal gehört hat. ,Hoffentlich Henri" ist ein opulentes Weltraumepos, das abhebt und sich mit einem Textzitat vor den Größten verbeugt. Der Schluss hat es nochmal in sich. ,Alle gehen, keiner bleibt" beginnt folkig und mit luftigen Harmonies, ufert aber letztlich aus. Ein Song wie eine Matrjoschka, überraschend bis zum Schluß

A master of functional intricacy, Brad's multi-layered compositions thread together more elements than other producers would care to consider, manifesting almost effortless and involuntary body movement which belies the complexity of the track and is sure to have the dancefloor in a spin.

Concluding with a beautiful piece of Balearic-boogie-beatdown, and with Attaboy muscling in on proceedings; 'Faro Sunset's dreamy and expansive moods cascade over a loose, conga-laden groove glued to the spot with a rugged b-line. Instantly conjuring memories of grilled calamari and poolside play, and sure to garner repeat plays across the familiar party paradises of the Adriatics and beyond; it finds the crew dialling into a deliciously languid vibe that's in contrast to the immediate urgency of the preceding tracks yet retains, assuredly, the sonic trademarks of the producer's hand.

A compilation of tracks that rearrange Okinawan folk songs into Jazz Funk, crossover, and large ensemble jazz, featuring works by Kiyoshi Yamaya, who was also highlighted in "Diggers Dozen" (BBE) by the Japanese DJ MURO, known as the "King of Diggin," and "Wamono Groove: Shakuhachi & Koto Jazz Funk 1976" (180g). This collection debuts as the latest installment in the "Ryukyu Rare Groove" series, which was originally released in Japan in 2003 to great acclaim.

All the songs are worth listening to, such as the dynamism and speed of "Painted Paradise" the coexistence of funkiness and mellowness of "Breeze" and the low-centered and sharp cover of Cool & the Gang's "Funky Stuff". Hot seducers. Two of them. On one 7inch. A/B Side business, hard to choose a fav, as both so fab. The A-Side is called "Happen". It comes from prolific Tokyo based DJ and producer Hoshina Anniversary. A simple drum machine groove, a manic melody, witching siren sounds, psychedelic voices, some soft chords, and soulful high-pitched singing, somewhere between Dam-Funk coolness and Ian Svenonius-The-Make-Up sixties pop longing. One for warm sexy nights under neon lights. Out there in psychic realms. The flip brings a Dolphins interpretation. Yes, that feverish trio behind R.i.O., consisting of Nadia D'Alò, Benedikt Frey and Menqui. Their freshly recorded version comes with haunting nonchalant singing, displaying the tunes core melody as a more prominent actor of the play. Michael-Mann-Pop-Nostalgia with a baroque touch, that waves dark-ish. Even some Jon Hassle feeling is in there. Hoshina Anniversary disclosed, that the original song is inspired by jazz musicians like Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius and Keith Jarrett. None of them is directly stylistically audible. But their kind of blue is all over. On the A as well as on the B. Twice soul music for the free.

Three tracks from the more upbeat side of Coyote's sound surface on IIB side project Mega Beat Ibiza Sound. Title track 'Escape Pattern' glides on serenely, a mixture of 80s synth sheen and 90s ambient bliss, all underpinned with a shuffling, off kilter beat with plenty of open hi-hat action. 'Karma Comedian' on the flip heads on a jauntier, open-grooved path with a gorgeously rounded and thoroughly addictive bassline, while the closing tune 'Raddish Eyes' (feat Max Essa) sets phasers to stun for an epic teaser of an intro, before a nimble beat finally takes us to the run out groove. Quality gear from the Nottingham duo, as ever.

Montreal duo Flabbergast—aka Guillaume Coutu Dumont and Vincent Lemieux—return to Circus Company, the label where it all began with their debut EP in 2015. Now seasoned veterans of leftfield club experimentation, they deliver Weirdo Active, a two-track vinyl release that distills their signature
blend of groove, absurdity, and refined weirdness.
On the A-side, “Timecrowave” is a swung, syncopated burner built around fragmented drum programming, warbled synth textures, and subtly detuned atmospheres. It's a tool that thrives in the inbetween moments of a set—unpredictable yet fluid.
On the B-side “Serpentoute,” a slinky groove laced with dubwise processing and modular squelch, maintaining tension through micro-edits and playful FX. Perfect for after-hours transitions or more openminded floors.
Following standout releases on Yoyaku, Copier/Coller, and Chapelle XVI, Flabbergast continue to offer up dance music that’s deeply heady, subtly unhinged, and always full of intent. A finely sculpted dose of dancefloor surrealism—just the way Flabbergast likes it.

Germany's Invexis comes back to the Manchester-based Scrap & Delete label with the 'Morphium' EP, arriving 19th September 2025. The four tracks follow up his remix for label founder Dorbachov's 'Ellesmere Street' EP earlier in 2025, which won support from Luke Slater, Jako Jako, Dave Clarke, and more. Title track 'Morphium' opens the EP in unexpected territory: an emotive, melodic crossover track that retains Invexis' mechanical backbone while reaching for something more transcendent.

With soaring synth layers and expertly balanced weight, it's a rare euphoric moment in his catalogue; one destined to erupt across festival tents. 'Nordic Noise' pulls things back into colder, rawer terrain, a frostbitten slab of functional minimalism with raw textures, fizzing hi-hats, and relentless groove cycles. 'Instinct' channels classic loop techno through a modern lens, driven by restless percussion and syncopated punch. Finally, 'RS' pays tribute to late-'90s groove science with complex, kinetic motion and heads-down intensity, reimagined for a new generation of warehouse punters.

Sababa 5 returns with another essential 45 for Batov Records" Middle Eastern Groove series. This time, they team up with two very different artists on two distinct tracks built from the same hypnotic groove: soulful Turkish alt-pop sensation Canay Dogan and reed flute specialist Itzhak Ventura.

Blue House Rockin’ is the result of a unique collaboration between Soul Sugar and Dub Shepherds — two projects united by a shared love for roots reggae, vintage studio gear, and warm analog sound.

The album was recorded live over two intense days at Blue House Studio by Christophe “French kiss” Adam, using ribbon and tube microphones from the ’50s and ’60s from the ’50s and ’60s, a Hammond organ, upright piano, Fender bass and Gibson guitars, classic amps and preamps, along with drums, syndrums and percussion. The sessions were transferred to a 24-track tape machine, and final mixes were crafted the old-school way by the Dub Shepherds at their own Bat Records Studio, using analog consoles and hardware vintage effects.
The tracklist brings together deep cuts, timeless classics, and original compositions. Curtis Mayfield’s Give Me Your Love and Aaron Frazer’s My God Has a Telephone (Colemine Records) — two soul gems, one vintage, one modern — are reimagined in reggae style, both featuring the great Jolly Joseph on lead vocals, working wonders with his falsetto. He also shines on Hold My Hand, a sweet and mellow original composition with lovers rock flair, written on the spot during the session.
Other standout moments include the soulful fire of UK singer Shniece McMenamin, who lights up Family Affair (Mary J. Blige / Dr. Dre) — flipped into a fiery hip-hop-meets-reggae version packed with energy and attitude.

Instrumentals like Disco Jack, Choice of Music, and Drum Song — all originally composed by Jamaican organ legend Jackie Mittoo — bring Guillaume “Booker G” Metenier’s Hammond work to the front. The playful exchange between organ, guitar, and a rock-solid rhythm section is elevated by swirling spring reverb, dub echoes, and filter sweeps.
The album’s explosive title track — Blue House Rock — was composed and recorded on the spot at the end of the session. A raw, greasy groove that sounds like The Meters jamming at Studio One or a lost instrumental from a Beastie Boys B-side.
Blue House Rockin’ is a vibrant blend of soulful roots reggae and funk, wrapped in the deep, dusty tones of analog tape. A joyful and authentic studio experience, captured live — and played loud.

The highly anticipated collaboration from Shawn Lee and Kelly Finnigan ishere. The A-side on this 45, Say It Again, features Kelly on vocals and piano. Federation JI is the new project from Icelandic producer Felix Leifur and Japanese artist Daichi Saito. Known for his house, electro, and techno releases, Felix stepped away from the club circuit to challenge himself creatively, diving into live instruments and a wider range of songwriting. Over two years, he explored a palette shaped by ’70s/’80s jazz-funk and ’90s experimental rock, inspired by his dad’s old Japanese pressings and a love for exploratory sounds.

A chance meeting with Daichi in Copenhagen revealed a hidden thread of Japanese infl uence in the music, leading to a close collaboration. Daichi’s shimmering synths and textured keys reshaped the songs, adding a futuristic, dreamlike layer to Felix’s heavy grooves and emotive guitar work.

The album moves through slow-burning funk, cinematic textures, dreamy Rhodes melodies, and bursts of ’90s rock energy, balancing playful moments with deep, nostalgic undertones. Flipping to the B, and the biggest thank you to Rob himself for spending weeks searching old DAT tapes in his loft to find the original pre master of the driving remix from the late Iteration X. They don’t come more heads down, and hypnotic than this. Throbbing bass stabs, luscious chords and in true Iteration X style, a roller that you could keep you shaking for days on end.

It only seems fitting to dedicate this re issue to Simon Copleston, Mr Iteration X. Thank you for the music!

Maggid Tewfik – Mazzika Nicab Parts 1 & 2:

Released in 1973, Mazzika Nicab by Egyptian film director and iconic figure Maggid Tewfik is a trippy instrumental journey into the experimental realms of baladi music. Known for his prolific career as a director and DOP in over 30 Coptic films, Tewfik’s composition, split in two parts, presents a moody yet undeniably cheeky tune that is unlike anything found in Egyptian music over the ages.

The track is a hypnotic blend of Eastern rhythms and Latin grooves, featuring an early drum machine that guides the track through its jubilant and stormy atmosphere. This mechanical beat is paired with funky garage sounds, creating a psychedelic fusion that evokes images of an epic cinematic score, where belly dance meets the raw energy of late-60s experimental rock. Belly-dance sci-fi perhaps..?

"I'm Ready" is the EP launched Kano in 1980. Produced by the Italian trio of Stefano Pulga, Luciano Ninza/,
and Ma0eo Bonsanto, it's considered one of the fundamental tracks that defined the Italo Disco genre and
brought it to interna4onal a0en4on.
In the early '80s, the track was incredibly innova4ve. It combined a massive use of synthesizers (like the
Korg MS-20), percussive rhythms, and a vocoder, crea4ng a mechanical, "robo4c" atmosphere that became
a hallmark of the genre.
The sound of "I'm Ready" was hugely influen4al. Ar4sts like Eurythmics and New Order have acknowledged
the impact of this track, and echoes of its style can be heard in many subsequent produc4ons, especially in
electronic music. Its groove and clean produc4on were a benchmark for the era. In short, "I'm Ready" is not
just a song, but a milestone that helped define the sound of an en4re musical era.
