20 Studioalben hat die gegen Ende der 60er Jahre von Frank Bornemann gegründete Band, die man schon früh dem Art- und Progressive-Rock zuordnete, bis heute veröffentlicht. Der Durchbruch gelang Eloy Mitte der 70er Jahre zumeist mit spektakulären Konzeptwerken, die sich zunehmend weltweit verkauften, was sich nicht nur in Deutschland durch zahlreich hohe Chartnotierungen, sowie in mit Edelmetall dekorierten Auszeichnungen zeigt, sondern ihnen auch international viel Beachtung einbrachte, aus der sich zunehmend eine beträchtliche Fangemeinde entwickelte, die bis heute anhält, ja sogar noch ständig wächst. Als unlängst ein Fanclub auf die Idee kam, aus dem zahlreichen Repertoire der Band eigene Favoriten aus dem großen Fundus zusammenzustellen und selbst Compilations für sich herzustellen, erwachte der Gedanke, dies auch ganz offiziell anzubieten und Highlights von Eloy auf Tonträger gebündelt zu veröffentlichen, die verschiedenen Epochen der Bandgeschichte entnommen wurden. Wir haben sie an kompetenter Stelle, also von Frank Bornemann und Toningenieur Benjamin Schäfer im Sound so bearbeiten lassen, dass sie perfekt zueinander passen und somit dem Zuhörer ein sehr individuelles Hörerlebnis bieten. Auf diese Weise ist "Hidden Treasures" entstanden und soll dem Eloy -Fan eine Sound- und Songkombination offerieren, welche es so bislang noch nicht gab.

Ursprünglich 1968 in New York auf Barakas eigenem Label Jihad veröffentlicht, ist "Black And Beautiful Soul And Madness" ein leidenschaftliches Zeitdokument der 1960er Jahre. Man könnte es leicht für eine verschollene Veröffentlichung von ESP-DISK halten, fügt es sich doch nahtlos zwischen Sun Ra, The Fugs und Albert Ayler ein. Die Band nutzte ihre Stimmen auf vielfältige Weise: mal singend im Stil von Doo-Wop und Soul, mal rappend im Stil der Last Poets, und oft auch beides gleichzeitig. Emotional fesselnd und von enormer Kraft, wird dieses Werk nun erstmals wieder auf Vinyl zugänglich.

Diles Que No Me Maten sind eine fünfköpfige Band aus Mexiko-Stadt, deren vom Krautrock beeinflusster Art-Rock sich zu etwas wirklich Einzigartigem entwickelt hat - drahtig, poetisch und voller Improvisationslust. Thematisch ist ,Escrito en Agua" ein Album über Präsenz, Umherirren und Widerstandskraft - Songs, die mit Mehrdeutigkeit leben, anstatt sie aufzulösen. Die Lead-Single ,Hiriku" gibt den Ton an und verbindet frenetischen Krautrock mit Zeilen aus José Vicente Anayas visionärem Gedicht ,Híkuri", während der herausragende Track ,No me" ein Mantra der Selbstsicherheit in etwas weitaus emotional Komplexeres verwandelt. Gewidmet sowohl dem indigenen Morgenstern Tunuwame als auch dem palästinensischen Dichter Mahmoud Darwish, endet das Album so, wie es beginnt: still und transzendent, mit achtsamer Aufmerksamkeit für die kleinsten Details dessen, was es bedeutet, lebendig zu sein.

Constant Black is one of the many, many labels that Burnski heads up. It's where he focuses on stripped-back minimal and tech house with a moody undercurrent. Kerouac is a mainstay in his orbit and here takes one side of a new 12" that opens with 'This Method,' a rigid thumper with an eerie edge. 'Produce To The Max' has a dark bassline and ghoulish vocal sounds, while 'Talking About' is a more light and bumpy percussive number. Mees Mattern takes care of the flip with the dusty, garage-y loops of 'Sloppy Tekniic,' rubbery bass minimalism of 'Reeses Pieces' and grittier '404 Not Found. Jazz-fusion, disco-funk, Latin jazz and batucada rhythms get the Filipino treatment onAfter Midnight, the sublime second album from keyboardist Boy Katindig. Originally released in 1980, After Midnight draws heavy influence from soul and funk contemporaries in the US as well as Latin America, in particular the famed Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa.

It’s a testament to his musical prowess that Katindig weaves effortlessly between styles and tempos. His reverence for Paulinho da Costa extends far, with covers of several songs from the latter’s 1979 Happy People album. This includes slow-burner ‘Déjà Vu’ written by Isaac Hayes originally for Dionne Warwick; on the Filipino instrumental version, local legends Jun Regalado and Roger Herrera (from Regalado’s ‘Pinoy Funk’ single) are reunited on drums and bass respectively.

But Katindig’s original compositions hold just as much weight and unique personality: title track ‘After Midnight’ opens with a sultry funk serenade reminiscent of The Isley Brothers, and quickly transforms into a catchy, blistering, saxophone chorus that brims with swagger. Hidden B-side gem ‘Got The Need’ is an uptempo tribute to batucada that would not be out of place in a jazzy house set, and boasts increasingly elaborate and psychedelic solos from Katindig on keys and Ben Concepcion on soprano sax.

Meanwhile, ‘Love Till the End of Time’ is a masterclass in instrumental disco funk, penned by the prolific Greg Phillanganes who at that same time was writing for many of the greats including Chaka Khan, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, The Jacksons and Cheryl Lynn.

This album is lovingly reissued by Sama Sama Records, a boutique label from DJ and collector Norsicaa, who ran the esteemed Soundway Records for 8 years and released the compilation Ayo Ke Disco in late 2024.

Canadian minimal titan Akufen dominated the scene at the turn of the new millennium and has a fine back catalogue full of classics. Now the Montreal man is back with new music though and it's like he never went away - 'Breakin' Free' (feat Dominique Fils Aime) is a slow, smoochy sound with low-slung drums and r&b vocals, while 'You Naughty Scamp' is a little more propulsive as it rolls through deep house and bright, textured synth melody. 'Rubber Ducky' is another playful jam with jazzy top notes, sampled vocals cut up and smeared through the mix and languid bass funk. 'Sensitive People (With So Much To Give)' is another symphonic and soulful house sound.

Practical Limits of Nihilism is a double album by Das Ding containing 14 brand new tracks. On the album, Danny Bosten searches for meaning in an incomprehensible world in which even nihilism does not offer a way out anymore. Created on self-built analogue synths and drum machines, Practical Limits of Nihilism sees the typical Das Ding sound evolving into new territory, including 4 vocal tracks. The atmosphere varies from dark wave to ambient trance and italo, while remaining true to itself. The artwork on the gatefold sleeve was also created by Danny Bosten and reflects a collapsing world, leading to the emptiness that is symbolised by the white vinyl the album is pressed on.
