Von der Zusammenarbeit mit The Clash und Bob Marley über die Verschmelzung von Genres mit Big Audio Dynamite bis hin zur Moderation seiner eigenen Radioshow auf BBC 6Music, dem Gewinn eines Grammys scheint Don Letts alles erlebt zu haben. Mit der Veröffentlichung seiner Bestseller-Autobiografie "There and Black Again" im letzten Jahr und "Rebel Dread", einem Film, der sein Leben dokumentiert, in diesem Jahr könnte man meinen, er hätte es geschafft. Aber es gibt eine Sache, die der 66-jährige Universalgelehrte nicht getan hat... bis jetzt. Mit der Single "Outta Sync" gibt Letts sein Debüt als Solokünstler und einen Vorgeschmack auf sein Debütalbum, ein berauschender Cocktail aus dubbigen, basslastigen Rhythmen, Island vibes und Spoken Words, die mit melodischen Hooks und Harmonien kombiniert werden. Das Album ist genau das, was man von einem Don Letts-Projekt erwartet. Gäste u.a.: der legendäre Terry Hall (The Specials), Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips) und die Lover-Rock-Queen Hollie Cook.

Repress. The trio were formed at the end of 2011 by Fredrik Bolzann, leader of the avant garde black metal band Darvulia and former bassist of Malhkebre, who recruited bassist Lo Klav and drummer Niko Lass to help him realise his doom laden dreams. Mining a very similar territory to Witchsorrow, or the first Electric Wizard album, Witchthroat Serpent sound at once refreshingly distinct and instantly familiar. We have a feeling their eerie, heavy-as-balls sound is going to make doom fanatics across the globe very happy indeed... The main success of Witchthroat's Serpent's self-titled doom debut lies in the contrast between the raw vocals and the fuzzy guitars, both of which are produced by Fredrik Bolzann.

This is a reissue of Sea Power"s Mercury Prize nominated Do You Like Rock Music? album. „Mein Weg“ heißt das neue Werk und ist keineswegs – wie man vielleicht vermuten könnte und es letztlich legitim wäre – eine Zusammenstellung aus Archivmaterial. Es gibt fünf neue Songs, nämlich „Lange her“, „Hunderttausend Laienrichter“, „Weitergehen“, „Lebe wohl“ und „Sonnenseite“, aber gleichzeitig auch eine Reihe von Klassikern, die in der Tat für seinen Weg stehen. Allerdings hat er diese Hits neu eingespielt und eingesungen. Unvergessene Songs wie beispielsweise „Ikarus“, „Sehnsucht“, „Melanie“, „Hiroshima“, „Das Buch“, „Auf das Leben“ oder den Titelsong „Mein Weg“ hat Maschine behutsam ins Hier und Jetzt geholt, hat sich dabei – ohne sie zu verfremden – auf ihren Kern konzentriert und macht damit deutlich, wie zeitlos diese Stücke sind.

Das 2010 erschienene Album „Pyramid of the Sun“ ist der Meilenstein von Maserati. Es war die letzte Aufnahme der Band mit Schlagzeuger Jerry Fuchs, die ein Jahr nach seinem tragischen Tod fertiggestellt und veröffentlicht wurde. Es wurde zu einem der wichtigsten Alben der Band und ist nach wie vor der Grundstein von Maseratis legendärem Katalog. The third and final EP from the ten year anniversary series by French label D3 Elements is another one that offers a wide range of excellent grooves. To kick off, Jason Hogans takes us into woozy late night territory with muffled leads and lazy breaks, then Zopelar heads for the cosmos on his radiant synth laced house offering 'Resolution.'

Malik Hendricks keeps it low key and slow with his intimate basement sounds on 'Green Mango' then Meftah rebuilds on a dusty Theo Parrish tip with 'Maha Shatki.' Damar Davis offers pure cosmic deep house lushness on closer 'Kiss In The Dark.'

Sylvain Chauveau's debut album "Le livre noir du capitalisme" is a melancholic milestone – and a precursor of what later would become the Modern Classical genre. With his release in 2000, Chauveau created a landmark of contemporary electronic music, parallel to the first releases of Jóhann Jóhannsson and Max Richter.

Inspired by John Cage's reflections on silence and Mark Hollis' solo album of the same name, on "Le livre noir du capitalisme" Chauveau assembles contemplative, repetitive piano and string arrangements with electronic sound layers and discreet field recordings to create an other-worldly but seductive Musique Noir. Midway between ambient, jazz and post-rock, Chauveau lays out a new paradigm of electro-acoustic music that functions as much atmospherically as compositionally, and whose parameters keep the boundaries between academic and non-academic music dissolved to this day.

Originally released on the small French experimental label Noise Museum in 2000, the album got reissued by Type Records in 2008 with the English title “The Black Book of Capitalism”. Being out of print for a while, Sonic Pieces now rereleases the classic with its original French title, plus new remastering by Loop-O and in an ultra-limited, handmade edition with black bookcloth cover on both CD and vinyl.

BIG SCENIC NOWHERE spielten eine Show in Joshua Tree, und da wir alle am selben Ort waren (Tony, der Sänger, wohnt etwa 20 Stunden entfernt), dachten wir, wir sollten zwei Tage lang im Studio jammen. Normalerweise produzieren wir unsere Aufnahmen, indem wir frei jammen und diese Jams dann in Songs umwandeln. Der Song "The Way Down" war der letzte Jam dieser Session. Wir wollten gerade einpacken, als Tony Reed anfing, das Hauptriff zu spielen. Manchmal ist das alles, was es braucht, um in einen 25-minütige Jam einzutauchen.

‘Everywhere’ positions the listener in a gentle mood for love. Snares snap and mix with a slightly discordant, far piano as lyrics and chords bounce off each other at a steady tempo. We are apprehended by the doleful vocals that invite us to gaze with an ‘illuminated stare’, and as we diffuse into the end of the song, a cool-aired beat breakdown leaves us in media res. A sprawl of love left everywhere. Great !

Andreas Dorau wird am 19. Januar 2024 zum ersten Mal sechzig. Anlässlich dessen legt er sein neues Album "Im Gebüsch" vor. Darin lauern 13 Stücke, auf denen Kaleidoskop-artig verschiedene Pop-Realitäten aufblitzen, erstmals auch auf Englisch: "Touristen-Englisch", wie es Dorau selbst bezeichnet, die Platte als eine Sightseeing-Tour des Pop. Dabei begibt sich Dorau auf einen Streifzug durch diverse Spielarten elektronischer Musik, wobei eine fröhliche Traurigkeit seine treue Begleitung ist. Außerdem wurden für dieses Album u. a. Gäste wie die Musikerinnen Güner Künier und JJ Weihl (Discovery Zone, Fenster) sowie Brezel Göring (Stereo Total) rekrutiert. "Im Gebüsch" ist modern, retro und postmodern gleichzeitig. Das kann nur einer, das kann nur Andreas Dorau!

Into the best Balearic tradition boldly steps Milan’s Rollover crew. As well as a regular party in Milan, the Rollover DJs (Tiberio Carcano & Rocco Fusco) have been making edits and releasing tunes over the past several years, but with this release there has been a step change in ambition. The latest collection of songs has been produced in a studio with actual musicians and songwriters, but with the ear of an experienced DJ. The best of both worlds. It was recorded almost exactly one year ago in December 2022, with the cream of Italian players, including bass player and Jovanotti collaborator, Saturnino, sticksman Sergio Carnevale, vocalist David Blank and guitar and synth boffin Lorenzo Morresi, who’s helped the guys with production. It follows in the tradition of a new generation of Italian musicians, like Nu Genea, Mystic Jungle Tribe and also DJs like Volcov. The lead single, ‘What Do You Live For’ was what Rocco & Tiberio describes as, “a funky track inspired by the early 1980s” and grooves so hard, with Blank’s message hitting right in the solar plexus. This will be followed by a pair of bangers, ‘Change My Mind’, a mid tempo disco chugger that is a tribute to LTJ Experience, the Bologna DJ Luca Trevisi, while ‘Never Found The Way’ heads towards Arthur Russel, before pealing off directly to the dancefloor. There’s also a Bawrut remix that adds some urgency and darkness to proceedings. The package is completed by lovely artwork by Riccardo Corda, whose work has adorned the Nu Genea releases. Is it Balearic? We think it is.
