Hinter dem Alias Bvdub verbirgt sich mit Brock Van Wey ein Produzent elektronischer Musik aus San Francisco. Dort war Wey in den Neunzigern als DJ und Promoter in der Rave-Szene aktiv, bevor er sich in den frühen Nullerjahren nach China verabschiedete, um dort auf neue Gedanken zu kommen. Was ihm auch recht erfolgreich gelang, seit 2007 hat Wey - als Bvdub und unter anderen Pseudonymen - rund 40 AmbientTonträger veröffentlicht, darunter mittlerweile stattliche 30 Alben. Diese begeistern durch empfindsam gesponnene Melodien und faszinierende Texturen, wie sie auch bei Echospace, Kompakt und Styrax geschätzt werden. "Drowning In Daylight" ist Weys Debüt für das Label Apollo. Das Album erscheint als Doppel-LP und enthält vier epische, je circa 20-minütige Tracks. Sie machen unverkennbar klar, dass Wey in Kindheitstagen eine Piano- und Violinen-Ausbildung genossen hat und (noch immer) von nostalgischsymphonischen Klängen beseelt ist.

»sichten« refers both to »opinions« as well as the »examination of material«. in lose sequence, we will invite friends and colleagues, but especially music lovers to share their opinions on music with us or to look through their collected materials in order to present music that tends to be out of the focus of current media channels. as a label for electronic music our focus is on examining exactly this genre. but in the context of the series, we are rather looking for more hidden, unknown, perhaps forgotten music. we want to present the yet undiscovered, and also offer a platform for other cultural environments with different musical approaches. each issue will be supervised and compiled by a curator. an introductory text shall explain the ar- tistic approach of the respective curator. in this sense, the format of a double lp can only provide a first insight and wants to invite to a more in-depth research. for the first issue of the series, »sichten 1«, we asked frank bretschneider to compile his own, very personal selection of current electronic music. his choice fell on six artists, whose different styles me- ander between accessible music on the one hand and very abstract compositions on the other hand.

In loser Folge laden wir Freunde und Kollegen, vor allem aber Musikliebhaber ein, ihre Meinung zur Musik mit uns zu teilen oder ihre gesammelten Materialien durchzusehen, um Musik zu präsentieren, die nicht im Fokus der aktuellen Medienkanäle steht. als label für elektronische musik liegt unser schwerpunkt auf der untersuchung genau dieses genres. im rahmen der serie suchen wir aber eher nach verborgener, unbekannter, vielleicht vergessener musik. wir wollen das noch unentdeckte präsentieren und auch eine plattform für andere kulturelle umgebungen mit unterschiedlichen musikalischen ansätzen bieten. Jede Ausgabe wird von einem Kurator betreut und zusammengestellt. Ein einleitender Text soll den künstlerischen Ansatz des jeweiligen Kurators erläutern. In diesem Sinne kann das Format einer Doppel-LP nur einen ersten Einblick geben und will zu einer vertieften Recherche einladen. für die erste ausgabe der serie "sichten 1" haben wir frank bretschneider gebeten, seine eigene, sehr persönliche auswahl aktueller elektronischer musik zusammenzustellen. seine auswahl fiel auf sechs künstler, deren unterschiedliche stilrichtungen ich zwischen zugänglicher musik einerseits und sehr abstrakten kompositionen andererseits unterscheiden.

Die Beta Band war eine britische Musikgruppe, die ihren
eigenen Stil als Folktronic bezeichnete, was eine Mischung aus
Folk, Rock 'n' Roll, Trip Hop und hemmungslos
experimentellem Jammen darstellt.
Die Beta Band wurde 1996 in der Nähe von Edinburgh von
den Musikern Steve Mason (Gesang, Gitarre) und Gordon
Anderson gegründet. Als sie gemeinsam Songs für ihre Debüt-
EP Champion Versions verfassten, stießen mit Robin Jones
(Schlagzeug) und John MacLean (DJ, Sampler, Keyboard-
Pianist) noch zwei weitere Mitglieder hinzu. Im Juli 1997
veröffentlichten sie die von Nick McCabe produzierte EP
Champion Versions, die von Kritikern vor allem aufgrund des
innovativen "Cut'n'Paste"- Sample-Konzepts umjubelt wurde.
Zwei ähnliche EPs folgten bald darauf: The Patty Patty Sound
im März des folgenden Jahres und Los Amigos del Beta
Bandidos im Juli. Alle drei erschienen im September 1998
unter dem passend gewählten Titel The Three EP's in einer
Kollektion.

The man, the myth, the legend ... back in the 80s Jesse Rae, along with Roger Troutman and Bernie Worrell, was part of the P-Funk movement that was hugely influential to Detroit's early electronic experiments. Lesser known is that the enigmatic Scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s. The inaugural release on Glasgow label Southside Shufflers presents two of Jesse's Shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the Global 95 EP- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album 'Compression'. Ever the innovator, Jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live ISDN technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing African, US electro-funk and old Scots influences. 23 years later, Jesse's under the radar Shufflers sound more relevant than ever.
Southside Shufflers are a record label and sports collective based in Glasgow with outposts in London and Amsterdam. SSS- ain't no half steppin'!

Berlin-based producer SDX drops an album entitled 'Nocturnal' on Sophia Saze's Dusk & Haze featuring remixes from TXTRL founders 138 and Shipwrec producer SC-164.



Georgia-born, Brooklyn-based Sophia Saze set up Dusk & Haze to release 'genre-free' experimental music, exhibited in the label's debut release entitled 'Solace' EP featuring four versatile cuts from Sophia herself and twisted electro and techno remixes from Umwelt and Benjamin Damage. The second release comes
from the enigmatic SDX, a masked artist who's fiercely championed left-of-centre dance music for decades. Crunchy drums and a thumping bassline kick things off in 'MS 04' before Los Angeles duo 138 provide an outstanding remix incorporating a cacophony of raw breaks. Modulated flutters, warped blips and white
noise create 'MS 08', leading into the organic drums and off-kilter arpeggios of '007' until New York's SC- 164 reworks '007' delivering a pulsating sub and distorted vocal chops.

UMS Recordings returns with a new split EP including four strong techno cuts.

This time we are pleased to welcome American producer Developer.

On the "A" side, Developer - "Bridge" starts off this EP with fast rhythm patterns, a continuous synth line creating a dark and deep atmosphere, grooving with intensity which grows as the minutes go by. Killer track.

Then, Developer brings "In The Vision", which is a strong tool, full of hypnotic sounds and powerful rythms of high fueled techno.

On the flip, Alex Guerra - "Fused" is a deep driving techno cut, full of funky rhythms, modular synths basses and sequences constantly evolving making an hypnotic and dense trip. Powerfull track.

Finally, Twelve is a raw deep techno track with heavy rhythms, decorated with stripped and repetitive patterns making this track a dark and fast pounding cut.

All the tracks on the ep are dancefloor killers for the club and/or the warehouse.

Der aus Kanada stammende und in Europa lebende Pianist, Entertainer und Grammy-Gewinner Chilly Gonzales ist für den innigen Klavierklang seiner Erfolgsalben "Solo Piano" (2004) und "Solo Piano II" (2012) ebenso bekannt wie für seine Selbstdarstellung auf der Bühne und Kompositionen für preisgekrönte Stars wie Jarvis Cocker, Feist und Drake. "Gonzo", wie ihn engste Weggefährten nennen, strebt stets danach, ein Mann seiner Zeit zu sein. Er nähert sich dem Klavier auf der Basis einer klassischen und jazzmusikalischen Ausbildung - aber mit der Haltung eines Rappers. Wie die beiden vorangegangenen "Solo Piano"-Alben findet auch die dritte Folge ein glückliches Ende in C-Dur, doch auf dem Weg dorthin finden sich mehr Dissonanzen, Spannungen und Unklarheiten als früher. Denn mittlerweile ist es Chilly Gonzales egal, ob seine Musik gefällt oder nicht, und damit werden falsche Noten auch nicht mehr glattgebügelt. Dadurch erhalten seine geheimnisvollen Akkorde und seltsamen Strukturen einen solchen Suchtfaktor, dass sie schließlich wie unvermeidlich klingen. Im Gegensatz zu den ersten beiden Editionen ist die musikalische Reinheit von "Solo Piano III" kein Gegengift für unsere Zeit, sondern reflektiert all das Schöne wie auch Hässliche, das uns umgibt.

Fans of Electro's big hitter DJs such as Helena Hauff, Dave Clarke, UMEK, Maceo Plex, and UMWELT won't have escaped the sonic assaults of Dutch artist RXmode and his fellow Transhumanism collective members; w1b0, Slaves of Sinus, TFHats.

RXmode's last EP 'Cerberus' was very much the EP he'd been building up to since his debut on Bass Agenda Recordings back in 2015; dark, sinister, heavy, and distinctive.

One of the tracks from that EP, 'Degraded', gets the remix treatment from the other Transhumanism members on this, the third vinyl release the collective have put out.

The original track kicks things off in style before the three very individual remixes take things to new territories. TFHats takes the track, remoulds it and adds his own lyrics and vocals to great effect. W1b0 brings what will certainly be looked back on as one of the heaviest tracks of 2018; his 'Violation in G Minor' mix is a brutal sonic assault with a bassline that will surely wake the dead. Last and by no means least Slaves of Sinus brings an abstract acid tinged version; laced with his own brand of sinister vibes and darkness.

5 catchy tracks by eighties bristol outfit Umo Vogue Umo Vogue formed in Bristol by Stig Manley, Russ Crook and Neil Deamer who were in Bath based ska rock outfit 'The AT's', along with Bristol based singer Debbie Marlow. Neil's Brother Clive joined the band bringing a fantastic new dynamic to the band on drums, percussion and heavy artillery. The band name is a deliberate misspelling of the ultra-chic Italian fashion magazine 'L'Uomo Vogue'. After winning the Bristol 'Battle of the Bands' in 1982 they were signed to Phonogram and dropped a few months later. They then signed to EMI in '83 and released their first single 'Just My Love' released in early 1984. The second single was 'Make It Real' and was never released as the band were culled from the EMI roster in late '84. For this reissue of their debut single we've added 3 bonus tracks, a demo of 'Just My Love', the unreleased follow single 'Make It Real' and a bedroom demo 'Erotica.'

Each song displays ridiculously catchy melodies and innovative electronic rhythms. The drum tracks, a combination of rhythm machines and hand percussion, were mixed down from the 4-track tape used as backing on stage, with the rich slap bass and Roland SH09 synths weaves fluid lead lines in between the harmony vocals. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The record is housed in an exact replica of the original jacket and includes an 8-page booklet with photos, notes and press clippings from the band's archive. 'We're synthetic but not antiseptic. Hypnotizing rhythms and stormy bass cuts make up Various Visions 2, as D-Operation Drop, Zygos, Hebbe and mrshl unite on the Copenhagen based label's 9th vinyl release.

Various Visions is a new series of vinyl releases by Circle Vision, launched to present an umbrella of artists from around the globe, who share the label's vision of sound design and affection for immersive bass music.

Over the last several years, the Zappa Family Trust and UMC have lovingly been restoring Frank Zappa's iconic catalog together by reissuing his classic albums on CD and pressing long-out-of-print records back on vinyl. Next up in the ongoing vinyl initiative, coming on the heels of the reissue of his enigmatic Burnt Weeny Sandwich, is Zappa's 1970 stylistically diverse and subversive album, Chunga's Revenge, which will receive a 180-gram audiophile repressing on black vinyl on July 20. Supervised by the ZFT, the record, which has been unavailable on vinyl for more than three decades, will be press pressed at Pallas In Germany and feature reproductions of the original artwork. Chunga's Revenge, although released under Frank Zappa's own name, introduced a new Mothers lineup that included former Turtles members Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, aka Flo and Eddie, as well as keyboardist George Duke, drummer Aynsley Dunbar and multi-instrumentalist Ian Underwood. The album is one of Zappa's most eclectic efforts, encompassing the improvisational title track, the raucous guitar jam "Transylvania Boogie," the bluesy "Road Ladies" and the jazzy "Twenty Small Cigars," along with more conventional rock numbers like "Tell Me You Love Me," "Would You Go All the Way" and "Sharleena."

Musician, artist, thinker, activist Brian Eno first came to international prominence in the early '70s as a founding member of Roxy Music, and immediately followed by a series of highly acclaimed solo albums. His visionary production work includes albums with U2, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Coldplay and many others.

His recordings and other collaborations are endless and endlessly known, however his visual experiments with light and video covers an even longer span of time and have been exhibited all over the globe - from the Venice Biennale to the Marble Palace in St. Petersburg, from Beijing's Ritan Park to the Sydney Opera House. Eno's installations are the fertile ground from which so much of his other work has grown and continue to parallel his musical career.

Music For Installations is a collection of original recordings from these installations with new and unreleased work covering the period from 1986 until the present and beyond.

After introducing Griffit Vigo 'the Gqom legend' on the Originators EP on Gqom Oh! Records back in February with the percussive anthem Ree's Vibe and the historical track featured on MTV Base Gqom Nation documentary "Gqom 5 - Gqom Oh! is finally ready to release Griffit Vigo's first solo single 'DJ' on a 7" vinyl, with on the b-side another Gqom viral Durban track coming from the numeric series "Gqom 6. Griffit Vigo, a real innovator in the Gqom genre who grew up in Clermont and started to produce music around 2007, has attained a legendary status amongst his peers as he was one of the originators of gqom, inventing sounds as Umshanelo (meaning broom in Zulu) and chopping vocals that everybody then started to sample. Many of his beats were appropriated or sampled, so now the time has finally come for him to show his talent and unique style and inspire the listeners in the same way he inspired everyone in Durban. This single introduces his forthcoming album on Gqom Oh!, to be released in September/October 2018 entitled 'Gqom is Alive'. As the Gqom sound has massively changed in the past year, taking over South Africa and the world, also by evolving into a more commercial-focused and melodic branch which derives from Sgubhu, Griffit Vigo's intention is to keep the original Gqom sound as pure and authentic as it was when it was first birthed whilst still pushing the sound forward in the future.

The young Dutch DJ & producer Lewski debuts on Darko Esser's Wolfskuil Limited series with 'Folkloric Human' EP presenting four fine Electro / Techno cuts.The title track opens the EP with a blend of old school electro and distinctly modern techno, featuring rhythmic bouncy beats and a playful built up perfect for the floor, followed by 'Phase Mistress', a vintage sounding beauty with captivating bass sequences and plenty of analog flavor.'EreBus' kicks off the B-side with its twisted drive, cyborg samples and sinister attitude that justifies it's name been derived from the mythological god of darkness. "Rough House Rosie starts its year by introducing Area, a project that has seen action on adventurous underground labels like Idle Hands, Sequencias, Ethereal Sound, and UMHS. The moody four track EP opens with sinuous acid house and a rubbery bassline techno stomper, then gets raw and abstract on the B side. Visceral and varied electronic music for the soul."

Shunter, the new album by the Berlin-based duo Driftmachine, is their most ambitious work to date. Although instantly recognizable, featuring their trademark Kosmische and Avant-garde sounds, it also presents a new journey into abstract and hallucinatory worlds. Filled with eerie textures, their electronic visions are darker and more vaporous than ever.

Driftmachine's fourth album (also the fourth one for Umor Rex) offers a new perspective on their ample sound spectrum and systemic narratives. Shunter overlaps and mutates their post-industrial-dub motives. It was conceived and produced in search of a very different kind of imagery, with sections of noise and field recordings intersecting with analogue sounds, a mixture of contrasted fragments, where the usual creative process of modular-synthesis leads Gerth and Zimmer to the discovery of a dark, hazy and diffused experience. There is a protean quality to the rhythmic elements, with tempos constantly contracting and expanding, a departure from the mono-beat-rhythms of "Nocturnes" and "Colliding Contours". The first half of Shunter is made of four pieces named "Shift", although individually separated, they are conceptually linked and can be understood as a sort of score. Imagine a late stage of the industrial revolution, with the interaction between heavy machinery and human beings. The second half of the album is not completely separated, but it has three other substantial melodic moments. Somewhere between the hauntological and the realms of archive-music, a huge range of subterranean beats and distinct patterns dotting the landscape of early electronic and post dub music.

Suddenly, in comes a hyperactive rhythmical workout, rolling at 128bpm but turbo charged with double time percussive flicks. Soon the dub elements return to fill out the sonic, keeping the pace lively and engaging. Quality, effective dancefloor music.

* Following straight on is 'Bangers' which almost sounds like an imagined collaboration between JA rhythms stars of the moment, Equiknoxx and Walton or Batu. Squelchy drums and a t'umping bassline roll things out in fine style.

* Flip the plate then for 'Quite' which brings things back into slightly more familiar territories, utilising a swooping bassline as pitched, deranged vocal stabs swirl about and tight drum programming keeps the pace moving. Last up is 'Flat Football' which returns to a similar form as the title track, 'Lemons'. Manic drum programming is used to create the impression of being in fast forward without moving the tempo over 130bpm! Not for the faint hearted.

Drum Union ist eine neue Serie, die verschiedene Spielarten von Leftfield House dokumentiert. Tony Nwachukwu aka Attica Blues aka Wah-Chu-Ku aus London liefert ein deep broken dub techno monster. I Was Left Wondering If It Was Jazz, Classical, Rock Or Maybe Something New But All Those Images That I Write About Came To Me From Listening To That Album. I Loved Prince In That Movie Purple Rain Because My Father Was A Talented Musician But He Was Into Brutalising Mama At Times And In The Movie There's A Jerome And My Name Is Jerome, So It Was Like He Was Telling My Life Story As Well."

The Album Acts As A Body Of Work Between Individual Members Each Speaking Of Their Own Personal Journeys, But Feeding Into The Much Larger Narrative Of Struggle And Oppression, Alongside A Fervent Hunger For Social Change. For Alan Oldham, artistic expression is a way of life, taking multiple forms and medi-ums throughout his lifetime. Before he was ever known as DJ T-1000, he was a published car-toon artist and radio DJ in Detroit writing press releases for Underground Resistance to get by. One day, Underground Resistance was in need of a last minute DJ for their tour in Aus-tralia, and a door flew open for Alan Oldham. With passport in hand he departed on his jour-ney as a DJ, which little did he know would eventually span continents. Influenced by every-thing around him, his work has dynamically changed and evolved along with his life. Currently as an international DJ living in Berlin, his latest creation is the ACIDSPACE EP, released by Elypsia Records under the DetroitRocketScience name. The traveler himself takes us on an intergalactic adventure, beginning with ACIDSPACE (8:48). With a steady beat and a unique blend of serene space sounds, this jam excites the imagination for the journey to come. It is followed by ROCKET TO BERLIN (7:20), a subtle and intricate mix that entices one to enter the unknown. VESTA SYSTEM (6:22) finishes the EP off on a note that leaves lis-teners grooving and enjoying the ride. Creativity and sweet sounds are what it's all about for Alan Oldham. With his recent musical shift to mellower, sci-fi inspired jams, he continues to let listeners see for themselves.

AB SYNDROM, the Berlin Duo, is coming with their third album. PLASTIK is a bit like the coming of age album of the band. It tells stories of growing up emotionally and being played into a hard and post capitalistic environment. Nevertheless you will find some quite romantic lyrics and songs between lyrical metaphors and a rough and urban reality in Berlin Neukölln, their neighborhood. The music on PLASTIK is mainly a percussion driven and electronic laden journey. Not your average pop arrangements but subtle compositions and laid back vocals with a certain chopped and screw twist. The bands musical projection is a most consequent advancement of their three albums and their body of work so far. Das New Yorker Jazz Ensemble Onyx Collective veröffentlicht 7' als Vorgeschmack auf ihr zweites Album!

Das New Yorker Jazz Ensemble Onyx Collective war lange ein Geheimtipp in der Internationalen Jazz-Szene. Big Dada veröffentlichte 2017/2018 insgesamt drei EP's der Combo digital. Die zwei besten Stücke 'Fruit Stand' und 'Snake Charmer' erscheinen nun auf 7' um die Wartezeit auf das kommende Album zu versüßen. Das Album, das den Namen - Lower East Suite trägt, ist zusammengestellt aus Aufnahmen ihrer Live-Auftritte im vergangenen Jahr. Ladenfronten, Bars und Straßenecken dienten hierbei sowohl als Venues als auch als Aufnahmestudios für das Onyx Collective. Die vorab-EP's wurden unter anderem von Gilles Peterson, XLR8R, Fader, Clash und Pitchfork hochgelobt.

Synthònia' is an electronic ambient album released only with analog synths (Roland System 100, Roland TB 303, Roland Jx 3p, Korg Polysix, Korg ms 10, Korg ms 20, Yamaha cs 15, Kawai 100f, Teisco 100f) which refers to Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Klaus Shulze and The Berlin Shool' and John Carpenter.

Dyno, from Pesaro, Italy, discovers the passion for electronic music and analog synthesizers at the early age of 15. His first single was released in 1995, for over 2 decades Dyno has established himself as one of the most eclectic and respected italian producers of techno music for many important labels (Global Underground, Yoshitoshi, ZYX Music, DJ Mag, Traum, ecc) supported by artists like Joris Voorn, James Zabiela, Sasha, Sharam (Deep Dish) and Umek to name a few.

His passion for analog synthesizers led him to realize this ambitious Ambient work that float just above, in a perfect geosynchronous orbit, casts enough shade to dampen the extraneous while causing a shift in our perceptions, enough to take us out of time and place, to wherever we need to be.
