HouseDance

Thanks for waiting - we’re finally taking flight. Over a decade into a career that’s seen her ascend from regional club music ambassador to one of global dance music’s most recognisable figures, UNIIQU3 today announces her debut album, ‘Mass Appeal’.

Trailed by this year’s trio of singles ‘Mile High Club’, ‘Calling My Name’ and ‘Papi’, the album is an international affair that reflects UNIIQU3’s globe-trotting approach to dance music, and toasts the relationships she’s formed along the way. As ever, though, it’s her distinctive vocals and production that tie the album into a cohesive whole.

UNIIQU3 has always enjoyed a close bond with the UK, and that’s reflected here: Samurai Breaks, Sam Binga and Karma Kid contribute production, while the US’s rich club lineage is represented by Spank Rock, Leonce and Cakes Da Killa. Further afield, there are collaborations with Melbourne hit-maker Swick, Franco-Congolese duo Tshegue, Korean vocalist BÉBE YANA and Rio funk fixture Leo Justi on the aptly named ‘Jersey Baile’.

First emerging in the early 2010s, UNIIQU3 quickly became one of Jersey Club’s key names via a flurry of original music, DJ mixes and live shows - picking up support from dance music’s headliners and tastemakers alike. In 2021, she released ‘Microdosing’ and her ‘Heartbeats’ EP, a one-two punch that broke her beyond the club circuit. ‘Microdosing’ was a double first: UNIIQU3’s first record playlisted on mainstream UK radio, and the first Jersey Club track ever long-listed for a Grammy. The campaign saw UNIIQU3’s face everywhere from Times Square billboards to the front cover of DJ Mag, while the music soundtracked fashion shows from Versace and Fenty.

The years since ‘Heartbeats’ have seen UNIIQU3’s status continue to soar: touring with Tinashe, opening for Beyoncé on her Renaissance world tour, going platinum as a co-writer for Chloe and being sampled by Doechii, all while taking club music to new territories through a relentless live schedule. ‘Mass Appeal’ marks the next chapter in this extraordinary story - buckle up.

Dj Taye - Still Trippin LP 2x12"

BeatsElectroExperimental

A generation younger than the founders of the Teklife crew, DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn, DJ Taye was originally a rapper and beat maker before hooking up with the collective and jumping into the world of footwork production and DJing.
However, it was Rashad's untimely passing in 2014 that was the unlikely catalyst for developing the sounds and ideas for this album. He says, "When Rashad passed away I felt inspired to continue evolving the music that I loved so much coming up in this world. So, I had to do something...make something brand new."

100% committed to pushing further the potential of the footwork template, Still Trippin' is ambitious in its range and scope. Taking two years to formulate, the record broadens the possibilities of the sound, forcing it to adapt to songwriting, and also revives Taye's talent for MCing and producing beats to which he can rap and sing. Furthermore Taye definitely ups the ante with his complex and precise drum programming, never losing sight of footwork's ability to confound. The album features a range of guests that span contemporary music, the eccentric, instructive rapping of Chuck Inglish of Detroit duo the Cool Kids is featured on 'Get It Jukin', Odile Myrtil, a young vocalist from Montreal, lends her smokey soul to 'Same Sound', Fabi Reyna, the editor of the celebrated women's guitar magazine She Shreds, sings and plays bass and rhythm guitar on 'I Don't Know' and Jersey club queen UNIIQU3 offers production and rapping on 'Gimme Some Mo'.Also, Teklife members DJ PayPal and DJ Manny assist on production, and DJ Lucky is a guest MC on 'Smokeout'. Taye is ambitious in his hopes for the album, "I took this as an opportunity to not have boundaries with footwork. Different approaches to our 'underground' sound to make it broader. It's only underground until it crosses that visible threshold.' This album brings all of this to the forefront.

BeatsBassPopElectronica

Numbers welcome New York’s Jubilee to the Glasgow based label - Main Character EP features ‘Trippin’’, a collaboration with Jersey club Queen UNIIQU3. One of the most vital voices in American underground dance music for over a decade, Jubilee brings her South Florida rave roots and East Coast sensibilities to the imprint.

Born from the dizzying emotions of love and grief, the EP opens with the cheeky cackle of UNIIQU3 on ‘Trippin’’. Marking their hotly-anticipated first collaborative release, ‘Trippin’’ bridges Jubilee’s Miami bass heritage and UNIIQU3’s Jersey club sound to create a playful lead single featuring tantalizing vocals.

Starting to work on Main Character in 2019, Jubilee revisited the project during an intense period of change and loss. Bringing in further influences from electro, Baltimore club, 90’s dance and techno to create her signature sound, Jubilee channels the fun, drama and chaos that comes hand in hand during challenging times. A deeply personal release, Jubilee looks to her friends and family for inspiration, including a sample of her parents on ‘Lucky’.

Jubilee’s debut on Numbers continues a stand-out year for the dynamic artist who released two stellar EPs earlier this year alongside celebrating 10 years of Magic City - her party series and record label which was awarded DJ Mag’s ‘Best Record Label’ in 2023 - with a run of records, merch and events across the States.

BeatsJungleElectroUk GarageExperimental

The latest offering from Astral Black comes in the form of the 'Metropolis N' LP, courtesy of Queens, New York's number premier importer/exporter of Jungle & D&B, NIGELTHREETIMES. Having initially garnered a name for themselves as one of New York City's most versatile club DJ's, with the release of their 'Call Of The Void; project in 2020 Nigel also began to build a reputation as a producer in their own right. Resulting in residencies on Rinse FM & The Lot Radio, radio support from the likes of Tom Ravenscroft & Uniiqu3 and press support from Resident Advisor, OkayPLAYER & Mixmag – amplifying their talents throughout New York City and beyond.

With 'Metropolis N' NIGELTHREETIMES distills their eclectic influences through the lens of rolling 160bpm breaks – taking in Jazz, 8-bit game soundtrakcs, science fiction & jump up D&B. Starting off the LP with the rhodes tinged double header of 'TSQ MELTDOWN' & 'EARLY MORNING FROM 103RD STREET', the latter featuring some of the best double bass work heard on a jungle track since 'Brown Paper Bag'. Elsewhere, on 'ROAD2RAILS' and 'PHANTOM SHORES', the producer ditches the instrumentation in favour of oscillated square waves, dubbed out vocal FX & 8-bit melodies, without ever losing site of the projects underlying sense of optimism. On the album closer 'INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION', 3X manages to bring together the influences heard throughout the project, tying together a muted rhodes chords, squarewave basslines, flutters of alien melodies and finely tuned, slices breakbeats into a 5 minute symphony.

The consistency and exacting production skills heard throughout the offering elevate this project from another drop in the digital ocean to a landmark opus, from a producer carrying the torch for this timeless sound and making the project worthy of a spot alongside some of the classics this genre has produced.

'Metropolis N' is available Oct 13th on digital and limited edition vinyl via Astral Black.
