Eight years ago, when we first encountered his work, he was composing soundtracks for imaginary video games and crafting sonic landscapes that felt like destinations for sci-fi anime characters. With “Cavalcante” (2022), he broke away from that past. It marked a turning point, he was ready to explore a “fourth world” in both sound and concept. The feedback was overwhelming.

Three years later, “horizonte” marks another evolution. He sends us music regularly, but this album stood out immediately. It felt right: more synth-driven, more open to improvisation. As he put it: “It’s like using oil pastels for the first time and discovering new possibilities. In a way, I’ve found new ways of creating using the same colours.”

Listening to horizonte is like waking up from a dream. Again and again. The opening track, “nascer”, suggests a new dawn, but it’s in “pássaros” that the vision fully takes flight: less processed, more raw, yet still detailed and expansive.

Finding new ways with the same colours has been his quiet mission all along. What’s new here aren't the tools, but the feeling. The movement. The invitation to travel with him. You can hear - and feel - his sense of wonder. Every sound radiates joy. Every moment sparks a new thought. The music moves quickly, but breathes slowly.

Tracks like “renascer” and “o caminho do regresso” echo the spirit of late-70s/early-80s Vangelis, in deep reverence. And just as you approach the end, “fantasma” arrives - a stunning closer, reminiscent of Eno’s “An Ending”. By then, it’s clear: the “fourth world” is behind him. funcionário has moved on. To where? Bogdan Ra kicks off his new Love Affair label with four banging cuts that nod to the 90s and bring plenty of authentic acid madness. Autodidactic musicologist and sample collagist U turned his archival eye on the melting pot of ‘80s post-punk with his debut ‘Life Isn’t A Fountain?’ EP for Lex. He follows up with an experimental exploration of regional identity with ARCHENFIELD, a deeply personal collection of ambient music and found sound that examines the relationship between geographical space and aural histories.

To construct this record U mined a wealth of recorded material relevant to the area. With a nod to traditional music, he takes samples from these records and creates beautifully atmospheric sound pieces that are often mixed with painstakingly researched snippets to create a stirring reflection on local history and broader themes of how we interact, or even fail to interact, with English folklore today.

Chris Menist pares his sound right back for A book of imaginary beings, his fourth Awkward Corners outing with a project of electronic and abstracted global grooves. Experimenting with simple melodies and uncluttered arrangements, as well as taking inspiration from the Borges' short stories alluded to in the title, the project took shape in the early part of 2025, in the shorter days and dark evenings of January.

The initial challenge was to knock a basic track into shape each evening after work, then refine it later. There's a melancholy in the air in late winter, compounded by the creeping threat of national and geopolitical instability. Ulla, Natural Information Society, Jabu, Torso and Dawuna formed some of the background soundtrack as each tune took shape.

The track titles came after sitting with the sounds for a while, giving shape to images of people, creatures and their stories for a book that is yet to be written.

Two former friends sets the tone for the album perfectly as a minimal electronic piece with a slowly simmering synth bassline underpinning the groove whilst the trademark Awkward sound of the Shahi Baaja enters drenched in effects. It's the first demonstration of Chris' unique ability to create a world from apparently very little.

Dance of the silver beetles is completely unique in that we can hear chopped up Illimba samples seemingly playing backwards and forewords sometimes alone, sometimes together in duet with Chris' conga rhythms. Add to that a more conventional Illimba melody and added shaker percussion and you have one of A book of imaginary beings most curious chapters.

Anxious shadow puppets is closer to the Awkward Corners sound from previous albums as electronic pulses move around the arrangement with the urgency that the track title suggests. Chris' percussive roots move to the fore with the congas that tie down the Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band's sound. Here, the bassline is more playful and works together with one of Chris' many African Illimbas.

Fans of Chris' adventures on his Roland 808 will dig A leopard with no spots, although the minimal mood continues to flow through on this track. The lolloping, but hard-hitting rhythm track provides the grounding for strange and twisting feedback-sounding tones to work the soundscape.

Abandoned boy (left in charge of the family business) is Awkward Corners at his atmospheric best. Drift off to the sublime sounds of Chris exploring the Shahi Baaja, whilst a soft, repetitive synth line and abstracted pads give the listener that feeling of meditation and peace.

Flamingo with bandaged neck is A book of imaginary beings' perfect coda and is exclusively Shahi Baaja draped in reverbs and delays. It feels like the resolution and the closing of a book that – as of yet – remains unwritten.

Awkward Corners is Chris Menist, a musician, DJ and writer. It started life as a small project in Islamabad, where Chris was living at the time. Initial recordings were made with local musicians in Pakistan and then subsequently in Thailand. This culminated in the Sweet Decay LP that came out on Finders Keepers' Disposable Music in 2014, and in turn led to a limited tape release on Boomkat/Reel Torque of original compositions and re-edits of Thai 45s the same year. Chris released – Dislocation Songs – his second LP proper with Shapes of Rhythm in May 2020, collaborating on many of the tracks with award-winning performer Sarathy Korwar. The LP was picked up by many radio stations including NTS, Resonance FM, BBC 6 Music, Balamii and many more. It made Tom Ravenscroft's LPs of 2020. Amateur Dramatics, Chris' second LP arrived just a year later in 2021 and was a more ambitious project featuring more jazz-focussed compositions and featuring Tamar Osborn and Kitty Whitelaw. Shortly after that came another pivot with the heavier, dancefloor-friendly EP Somebody Somewhere. Somebody Somewhere is Dancing in a Field brought the House (yes House!) vibes, whilst Hector Plimmer turned in a remix of No Words in the same club mood.

As one of NTS Radio's longest-standing presenters, Chris continues to hold down the Paradise Bangkok show. Playing drums and percussion since he was a kid, Chris is the percussionist for The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band as well as co-founding the record label of the same name. Chris has curated compilations for labels such as Finders Keepers, Soundway and Dust-To-Digital. He has been featured on the Boiler Room, Vinyl Factory Collections, played at the Four Tet curated Nuits Sonores festival, and has put together an edition of Volumes which featured unreleased Awkward Corners compositions.

Hundredth haben sich über die Jahre als Band des Wandels etabliert. Nach fünf Jahren Stille kehren sie nun mit Faded Splendor zurück: einer intensiven Mischung aus Post-Punk-Energie und weiträumigem Indie-Rock. Das Album vereint Einflüsse aus vier Jahrzehnten – von düsterem 80s-Post-Punk über das Indie-Revival der 2000er bis zum glitzernden 90er-Alternative-Rock und verträumtem Pop. Ein Hauch von Alt-Country klingt mit – vielleicht eine stille Erinnerung an ihre südliche Herkunft. Doch das ist keine Rückschau. Es ist ein Aufbruch.

Doch dieses Mal trotzt die fünfköpfige Band den Erwartungen, indem sie das kreative Universum des Vorgängeralbums erweitert und am 31. Oktober mit "Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death" aufs Neue ins Vampir-Universum eintaucht.

Iron Maiden spielte tief im Herzen Amerikas, während W.A.S.P. und Mötley Crüe mit ihrer skandalösen Theatralik und Dekadenz die Gemüter der Konservativen erhitzten.

"There are moments in which art perfectly reflects the surroundings in which it was born. This is the case of the entire hc/punk/metal scene in late 80s/early 90s Medellín. It was, at the time, the most violent city in the world because of drug cartels, corruption, oppression & poverty. This violence was the reality of daily life & is reflected in the music that flourished in Medellín during the time period. October might not appear to be the ideal time to release a bright and sunny set of songs, but autumnal days bring a mix of dark and light that perfectly matches the overall vibe of the debut album by the jangly indiepop band, The Felt Tips.
 
The Felt Tips debut album was originally released by Peruvian label Plastilina Records in 2010 to much acclaim in the international indiepop scene. The ten songs are crammed full of catchy melodies and chiming guitar riffs, with memorable lyrics covering everything from religious hypocrisy (Boyfriend Devoted) to what teenagers get up to in the park after dark (Lifeskills).
 
It’s clear that these four lads grew up listening to The Smiths – not only name-checking the 80’s indie darling’s frontman and his ever-expanding girth but also deftly leaning into similar unconventional lyrical themes. And while there’s an obvious Belle and Sebastian comparison being Scottish, musically the enigmatic and skillful guitar playing from Miguel Navarro owes more to Bernard Butler and Johnny Marr – and his talents learning flamenco guitar in his native Spain. The weaving of the guitar’s melodic musical backdrop, alongside the pulse of Kevin Carroll’s inventive drumming and Neil Masson’s intricate bass playing, is what truly elevates The Felt Tips.

 And it’s this juxtaposition of bright melodic tunes from the band and the exploration of the darker side of human nature conjured by Andrew Paterson’s lyrics makes The Felt Tips such a noteworthy addition to the indiepop scene.

Originally recorded at CaVa Sound in Glasgow, the album has been remastered and cut for vinyl by Guy Davie at Electric Mastering, and pressed on INEOS EcoVin™ Bio Vinyl at Press On Vinyl in Middlesbrough. New liner notes have been written by Roque Ruiz, the owner of legendary US-based indiepop label, Cloudberry Records. Cavalera ist vor allem als Mitbegründer der brasilianischen Metal-Band Sepultura bekannt. Seit er die Band 2006 verlassen hat, beschäftigt er sich intensiv mit experimenteller Underground-Musik und arbeitet mit Künstlern wie Laima Leyton, Ninos Du Brasil, Raven Chacon, Linekraft, Petbrick, Pig Destroyer, Soulwax, Dwid Hellion, Shane Embury und anderen zusammen. Bernocchi begann seine Karriere in den 70er Jahren in verschiedenen Punkbands und wurde in den 80er Jahren bekannt, als er das postindustrielle Kollektiv Sigillum S mitbegründete und Kontakte knüpfte, die sich über die gesamte globale Underground-Szene erstreckten. Auf ,Swietnenia Macrophylla" vermitteln suggestive, feuchte Klanglandschaften zunächst ein prekäres Gefühl der Sicherheit, das an den Rändern durch schnurrende Schwingungen, die die Fauna des Dschungels imitieren, verschwimmt. Und diese Ruhe wird schnell durch perkussive, nebelhornartige Verzerrungen unterbrochen, die das Ausmaß der Vision des Trios verdeutlichen. Es handelt sich nicht nur um rohen Lärm, die raueren Elemente werden durch subtile Wellen wogender Atmosphäre und schwüle Low-End-Drones unterbrochen, bevor der Track in eine Symphonie computergenerierter Stottergeräusche übergeht. Es gibt ein ständiges Hin und Her zwischen organischen und künstlichen Klängen - bevor man sich an den DAW-verfälschten Lärm gewöhnt hat, trüben collagierte Bandübersteuerungen und zerschnittene Verstärkerbrummen die Atmosphäre, verwirren gezielt die Sinne und verschleiern die Quellen. Dieser Gedanke wird in ,Ceiba Pentandra" fortgesetzt, wenn das Trio den wimmelnden Klängen des Dschungels mit knurrenden, surrenden Elektronikklängen und dichten Interferenzen folgt. Was als Vogelgesang und Insektenchor beginnt, verwandelt sich in eine Wand aus ohrenbetäubender, transzendenter Vollspektrum-Textur, die sich wie ein langsam voranschreitender Sturm über einer schattigen Wildnis auftut.

The Scunthorpian partners-in-crime Rupert and Henry Stansall, mythologized in wanted posters as Ruen Brothers, are back in the saddle with their fourth studio album: Awooo. Titled after the lycanthropic howling chorus of their melancholic track “Sitting at the Station,” Awooo finds the duo on the road again, full of ruminative wanderlust and exploring sprawling, dark deserts, carrying with only their songbook of western-inspired folklore. The meditative, building desire of “The Cabin on the Hill,” the pensive yearning etched inside “Poison Down the Wire,“ and a tasteful reimagining of the tried-and-true traditional “Mama Don’t” that could easily pass as an original, all exhibit the creative growth that these young troubadours have established over their decade-long career. After their first joint recording experience in 2022, in which they dedicated a monograph to the Beatles, revisiting their great classics,
Sarah Jane Morris, a British jazz, rock, and R&B singer and songwriter, and the Solis String Quartet, a Neapolitan string quartet with
extensive concert and recording experience, are embarking on a new album. This time, it's not a monograph, but a tribute to a series
of artists who have left an indelible mark on the universal music world with their art and unique lifestyle. The project is titled "The 27
Club," a reference to those artists who, despite not choosing to belong to any elite circle, were united by the fate of having left this
world too soon, at just 27 years old. Among them are great names such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Amy
Winehouse, and Otis Redding. Despite their differences, these artists share a charisma and a passion for music that has made them
immortal. Their musical legacy continues to celebrate their memory and inspire new generations. The album is a tribute to these timeless
artists, whose songs remain timeless and continue to move. Forever Young.

THE CULT 1994 ALBUM FROM THE ENIGMATIC NORWEGIAN BLACKENED DOOMSTERS.
PRESENTED ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME. Carpathian Full Moon formed in Norway in 1992 & was responsible for the sole full-length album, ‘Serenades In Blood Minor’; considered somewhat of a lost classic of melodic Scandinavian blackened doom. The style was reminiscent of acts such as Ophthalamia, as opposed to the more traditional & conventional style of black metal which was sweeping Europe at the time. ‘Serenades In Blood Minor’ was originally released on Avantgarde Music in 1994 & showcased refined musicianship as well as an eclectic mix of influences, whilst incorporating elements of progressive music into the compositions to give a rich texture throughout (members went on to form the more prog rock based act, Julia Dream). A darkly atmospheric opus which evoked the grandiose nature of black metal, but with a more melodic & often sombre doom core, ‘Serenades In Blood Minor’ saw Carpathian Full Moon sculpting an identity of their own with this release, before eventually splitting up. ‘Serenades In Blood Minor’ was recorded & mixed in October & November 1993, at Waterfall Studios in Oslo & is presented for the first time on the vinyl format. "

Ferdi is an emerging saxophonist artist from the Brusselian-Parisian musical scene. Fifteen years after evolving at the conservatory, he decided to develop his artistic career. He surrounded himself with prominent artists of the modern music scene: the rapper Peet, the pianist Sofiane Pamart, his trumpeter mate Bessau, and the King of Funk Dabeull!



Ferdi’s new album « Romance » has been conceived from this artistic exchange. « Romance » offers a romantic, funky moment for two lovers of 80s music: Dabeull and Ferdi. »

"Kiso", "Asama", "Hakuba" and "Hida". He recalls the landscapes of his past and carefully weaves his feelings and emotions into the music. This work is one of the pinnacles that Akira Miyazawa has reached.

This work was released in 1970 as one of Victor's "Japanese Jazz" series. "We are Japanese, so I think we have to create something that only Japanese people can do." These are the words of Akira Miyazawa from this period. When Miyazawa tried to create a work that only Japanese people could do, it was inevitable that he would choose his own origins, the hometown where he was born and raised, as a motif. For Miyazawa, who was born in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture and loved fishing, "Kiso", "Asama", "Hakuba" and "Hida" are truly landscapes of his past. Takeo Moriyama's raging drums, Yasuo Arakawa's rich bass, Masahiko Sato's overflowing piano, and Miyazawa's saxophone, which is like a mass of emotion. Nostalgia and admiration for the land where he was born and raised, as well as admiration and reverence for Mother Nature. Miyazawa looks to his roots and weaves his thoughts and images into his music with sincerity and care. This album, "Kiso" is the pinnacle that Miyazawa has reached.
