With his first longplay EUROSTAR, the Danish disco-dj-turned-rock-crooner Boogie Rookie seeks to bridge the troubled waters between UK new-wavey rock and sleazy euro-disco. It's a ten track italo-rock outburst uniting extreme hedonism, climate crisis and the European railnet.

The album is produced partly in Copenhagen with Danish disco royalty Vinnie Who and balearic-proghouse wunderkind William Winding, and partly on the hills of Napoli with the Neapolitan Italo-don Whodamanny. In the middle of the album there are steamy vocal features from the Parisian disco queen Corine and the Danish model-chanteuse Klara Kristin.

The album is already remixed by the likes of Prins Thomas, Italo Deviance and Danger Boys and has gained traction amongst DJ's all over who fear neither kitsch or raw rock'n'roll power.

When he's not busy making punky HI-NRG tunes, Boogie Rookie is one of the busiest European cosmic disco dj's. On weekend nights, you're very likely to find him with a glass of red wine behind the booth of his countless Copenhagen residencies, his residency at Paris' hyped disco La Fète or at happening disco dances elsewhere in Europe.

'Sometimes life can kick you in the nads,' says Dominick Martin (aka Calibre). 'When life does do that, I need to make music like this. With its tones of hope and gospel-level layers of self-recorded vocals. Raw, uplifting, soulfull... Even to the most ardent of Calibre follower, ' Grow' sounds like nothing else he's done before. Yet it's not actually on the album it gave a name to. Partly because its ultimately positive veneer (even though it was written in the midst of two toxic relationships - one personal, one with the bottle) doesn't quite complement the deeper, more contemplative aesthetic of the album. But also because this is the start of a whole new story for Calibre...

'A part of Dominick is a poet and a part of him is a man who's lived through Northern Ireland at its worst,' observes Craig Richards . 'There's a gentleness and a tension to him and his past and his experiences. Somewhere in that middle ground is his music.'

Brazilian producer 'Bungle' returns to Thirtyone Records with his sophomore EP for the renowned British outlet for all things drum & Bass. Doc Scott curates the label closely and has selected four Bungle cuts that all have that same prolific vibe to them.

''Cocooned EP'' opens up with the sublime and dark title song. 'Cocooned' revolves around a savvy bass cut and Bungle's signature big drums. 'Distance' is a special piece with a gigantic pad at the centre of the song.

The big and jazzy hats are compilmenting the rhythm nicely while splashes of FX are cleverly being used throughout.
'Eclipse' is a nervous electronic cut with a thumping feel to it. Tech sounds, distortion and ethereal sounds are moulded to a buldging piece of dancefloor music. On the last position of the 'Cocooned EP' tracklist we find 'Impulse'. This track stands for: huge drums, deep bass sounds and a very ominous atmosphere

Mike Gordon's debut album as Mk.gee, "Two Star & the Dream Police," is a groundbreaking fusion of pop, rock, and soul. Hailing from New Jersey, the 26-year-old musician redefines familiar genres with his unique approach to sound, incorporating unconventional tones, tempos, and textures. His distorted guitar riffs and soulful vocals, reminiscent of Prince, cut through murky, experimental mixes, creating a captivating sonic landscape that refuses to conform to traditional boundaries.

Despite his experimental tendencies, Gordon demonstrates a mastery of melody, crafting intricate and engaging pop songs from seemingly chaotic compositions. "Two Star" is both innovative and accessible, offering a fresh take on contemporary music while retaining a timeless quality.

While Gordon has been releasing EPs and mixtapes since 2017, it was his collaboration with Dijon on the latter's debut album, "Absolutely," that introduced him to a wider audience in 2021. Their dynamic live performances, characterized by Gordon's frenetic guitar playing and Dijon's charismatic stage presence, exemplify the creative synergy between the two artists. Dijon credits Gordon with pushing him to new creative heights, infusing his music with a newfound rhythm and freedom. "Absolutely" marked a significant evolution for Dijon's sound, with Gordon's influence recognized as invaluable to the project's success.

Pariter return with a second archival reissue from three key figures of the original London tech house movement, David Coker, Timmy S and Justin Baileys.

This double header pairs a heavyweight house groover on the A side with a rolling acid tech house cut on the flip. The A side is driven by commanding vocal samples and Timmy's finely tuned engineering, channeling the raw, sound-system focused energy that defined the era's most enduring club records.

On the B side, a relentless acid-fuelled roller emerges from the vaults, a secret weapon that has remained deadly on underground dance floors for more than two decades, quietly championed by those in the know.

Now, 26 years on, original copies are nearly impossible to find in clean condition with rare copies regularly changing hands for hundreds of euros on the collector's market.

Carefully restored and remastered by Yossi Amoyal, this reissue revives a long lost and highly sought after underground classic.

Rahaan has become a Chicago legend, a DJ who is widely recognised for his exceptional skills behind the decks and his exquisite taste in music. Lately he has also been earning plaudits for his production skills with some truly outstanding releases. Rahaan has collaborated on a very special release featuring Swiss-born and Italy-raised, Kihmy is an artist and producer who creates nocturnal soul music, where electronic textures and trip-hop atmospheres converge. Her sound lives in the shadows, intimate and cinematic, characterized by a deep and expressive voice and emotionally engaging lyrics.

Goldmin founder Romain Lanteaume aka EinKa meets Terrence Dixon for a 2nd record which is nothing but a logical suite to the one released last year.

This one is probably less deliberately "dark" but to us The Edge was not dark at all, like what we tend to call melancholy isn't obviously a negative feeling. We believe there's no real duality between things and states.. There's an incredible amount of degress in between.. It's always a bit more complex and deeper than the first impression!

The Signum Recordings label celebrates its 30th-year anniversary with a limited edition 7" single of 200 copies on green vinyl. The title track, "Fire Them Liars", presents a powerful fusion of leftfield ambient electronics, urban beats, orchestral strings and guitarsounds. Vocals and lyrics are provided by label founder Maarten van der Vleuten. The Bside, titled "The Story Of Nuffsy Nuff", is exclusive to this 7" release. Musically quite unexpected with its postpunk/psychedelic rock-influenced sound, on which Maarten plays drums (and some sparse vocals). The release includes a hand-stamped inner sleeve with a download code and sleeve featuring the lyrics.

Following the release of Haunted House Party, Bradley Thomas Turner was contacted by the Cryptozoological Society of New York City to create music for their museum’s holiday exhibitions. As enigmatic as they are controversial, the secretive society gave the composer free rein to create music that celebrated their profane (and, according to their critics, pseudoscientific) explorations of the darker side of yuletide folklore. The endeavour was denounced by religious groups, the scientific community and even parts of the cryptozoological community as “blasphemous,” “irresponsible”, and “a dangerous topic to make light of” respectively. Not much is known about the pandemonium that broke out on the night of the opening reception, but one journalist (who has been granted anonymity by request) infiltrated the event and captured the recordings that follow. Death cult ritual? Mishandling of cursed artifacts? Elaborate practical joke? Publicity stunt? No one can (or will) say for sure as no person in attendance has been willing to speak on record. Therefore, we present these recordings so the general public can decide for themselves.

Arpy Brown & Kapote Announce Collaborative Album Memento Ludi via Toy Tonics

A sun-drenched fusion of yacht rock, house and modern indie dance energy – out June 26, 2026
BERLIN, GERMANY — Toy Tonics is proud to announce Memento Ludi, the first collaborative album by label founder Kapote and multi-instrumentalist producer Arpy Brown, arriving June 26, 2026.
The album is a funk-driven journey that bridges the warmth of 1970s analog recordings with the pulse of contemporary dance music. Blending neo-soul grooves, yacht rock harmonies and modern house rhythms, Memento Ludi captures the spirit of classic musicianship within a forward-looking club context.

But Memento Ludi is more than a typical house record. The album moves fluidly between dancefloor tracks and fully developed songs. Every instrument was performed live by the artists themselves: guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion recorded in the studio by Arpy and Kapote. After jamming and recording the basis of every song in a live procedure they carefully resample the parts to create the organic, human touch that defines the Toy Tonics sound.

The title Memento Ludi — Latin for “remember to play” — reflects the album’s philosophy: bringing joy, spontaneity and musicality back into dance music at a time when many club tracks feel increasingly mechanical and formulaic.

The collaboration arrives during a particularly busy moment for both artists. While spending countless hours in the studio, Kapote and Arpy Brown have also maintained intensive international touring schedules with the Toy Tonics crew, road-testing many of the tracks as “secret weapons” in their DJ sets from Melbourne to Los Angeles via their homebase Berlin.

“We wanted to make a record that felt like a lost studio session from 1978 — resampled and synthesised in 2026,” says Kapote.

Featuring rare- and first-on-vinyl tracks from beloved producers such as 2000 And One, Stasis, and CiM. Remastered by DMX Krew and with an accompanying online essay by Oli Warwick.

Across eight carefully selected slices of starry-eyed machine soul, Cold Blow presents an exquisite tour through backroom techno and downtempo electro. With a focus on thematic flow and an immersive listening experience, the London-based label explores works from leading lights of the 1990s and previously unreleased cuts that celebrate the human heart that can be discovered in synthetic sound practices. The development of techno in the 1990s saw the music evolve in different directions across the world. From the expressive blueprint laid out by the Detroit pioneers, a wide range of tempos and energies emerged. Techno's evocative synthesis and intricate drum machine programming was especially potent for deeper explorations away from the dancefloor. Documents Of A Different Reality casts back to when technology was steering quantum leaps in communication and creativity and the future was shot through with naive optimism. It was also a time when the media and industry hadn't caught up with the music to box it into distinct categories. As such, there's a sense of creative freedom that informs the older tracks on the album, from 2000 And One and Sandy Huner's sparkling example of early Dutch techno to London-based LA Synthesis' detailed take on braindance and the majestic night sky vision of cult legend Stasis. There's also space for rare, late 90s machine funk from Icelandic outlier Thor alongside Connective Zone's charmingly fractured bleep dream and a more contemporary offering from Barcelona-based duo Permutation. Meanwhile Mind Control and CiM both capture the spirit of stylistic fusion with twitchier rhythms that take influence from hardcore and jungle as much as techno. With an atmospheric through-line of melancholic pads and harmonious leads, this small but perfectly formed collection naturally follows on from previous, equally thought-out compilations on Cold Blow, and adds a distinct perspective on the history and continuing legacy of pioneering early ambient techno.

Larrison komponierte, programmierte und nahm alles komplett auf einem Casio CZ-5000 auf, während der guten alten Zeit der selbstgemachten Experimente und Entdeckungen in den frühen 90ern. Er lebte in einer Traumwelt, die er selbst erfunden hatte, mit Soundtracks aus Space-Age-Pop-Vignetten, gespickt mit hypnotischen, überschwänglichen, vielschichtigen Synthesizer-Melodien. Mit 26 Tracks, die alle neu restauriert und aus den Originalquellen gemastert wurden, erfindet sich Connecters Vol. 1 Song für Song neu, überwindet die Zeit und trotzt der vorbestimmten Vergessenheit dieser brillanten, diskreten Musik, die vor drei Jahrzehnten entstanden ist. Larrison Seidle wuchs in den 70er und 80er Jahren in Greenwood, Indiana, einem Arbeitervorort von Indianapolis, auf. Er stammte nicht aus einer Musikerfamilie, aber aus einem Haushalt, in dem Musikalität gefördert wurde. Sein Vater kaufte eine elektrische Orgel, in der Hoffnung, dass Larrison und sein älterer Bruder das Instrument lernen würden. ,Am Ende saß mein Vater einige Abende an der Orgel, improvisierte und spielte immer wieder dieses eine Lied, von dem ich mich noch an die ersten Takte erinnern kann", erinnert sich Larrison. Möglicherweise war es in diesem Moment, in dem es zwar keine formale Ausbildung gab, aber viel Ermutigung und Entdeckungsfreude, dass der Künstler seine ersten musikalischen Experimente machte. Diese Erlaubnis, sich auszuprobieren, sollte seine kreative Arbeit in den folgenden Jahren deutlich prägen. Während in Larrisons Elternhaus klassische Rockplatten leicht zugänglich waren, lieh sich sein Vater 35-mm-Dokumentarfilme aus der Bibliothek aus, um sie im Wohnzimmer zu zeigen, die alle mit skurrilen Instrumentalstücken unterlegt waren. Als Teenager nahm er John Carpenters und Alan Howarths Endthema aus ,Die Klapperschlange" mit einem kleinen Kassettenrekorder neben dem Fernsehlautsprecher auf und liebte Tangerine Dreams Beiträge zu Ridley Scotts düsterer Fantasy ,Legend". Seine Faszination für diese weitgehend textlosen, synthesizerbasierten Kompositionen führte zu einem eigenwilligen Verständnis davon, wie Musik nicht nur das ergänzt, was wir vor uns sehen, sondern auch das, was wir in den Tiefen unseres Bewusstseins erleben. 1985, als er dreizehn Jahre alt war, überzeugte Larrison seinen Vater, ihm ein Casio CZ-5000-Keyboard zu kaufen. Wie zuvor die Orgel war auch dieses Instrument eine Neuheit im Haushalt der Seidles. Erst nach seinem Highschool-Abschluss 1991 und dem Beginn seines Studiums an der Herron School of Art in Indianapolis entdeckte er den in das Casio integrierten Sequenzer und begann, seine Kompositionen auf Band aufzunehmen. ,Das CZ-5000 und sein 8-Spur-Sequenzer sind die einzigen Musikinstrumente, die ich benutzt habe. Es hat eine fast unbegrenzte Funktion zur Erzeugung neuer Klänge", erklärte Seidle. Während seiner Zeit an der Herron School of Art freundete sich Larrison mit seinem Kommilitonen und Klangkünstler Michael Northam an, den er bei einem Konzert auf dem Campus kennengelernt hatte. In den letzten Monaten des Jahres 1993 und Anfang 1994 schrieb und nahm Larrison mit begrenzten Mitteln und grenzenloser Intuition eine Reihe von Songs mit seinem CZ-5000 in einer kleinen Wohnung nördlich der Innenstadt von Austin auf, bastelte eine farbenfrohe, illustrierte Beilage, in der einige Songtitel durch Linien oder Pfeile dargestellt waren, und gab sie an Plunkett weiter, damit er sie für ND rezensieren konnte. Diese einzelne Kassette mit dem Titel Connecters sic war eine von 1200, die im Laufe des Bestehens der Publikation bei ND eingereicht wurden und die Jed Bindeman, Mitbegründer von Freedom To Spend, 2020 erworben und fast wie durch ein Wunder entdeckt hat. ,Ich hatte große Schwierigkeiten, mir die Kassetten in dieser Sammlung anzuhören", gibt Bindeman zu. ,Aber dann legte ich Larrisons Connecters ein und dachte sofort: ,Wow! Was höre ich da?' Die Kassette war von Anfang bis Ende einfach fantastisch." Mit Musik von genau dieser Kassette und anderen Aufnahmen aus Larrisons Experimenten in den 90er Jahren ist Connecters eine Übersicht über Instrumentalmusik, die sowohl durch vielfältige konzeptionelle Strategien als auch durch spielerische Neugierde geprägt ist. Seidle arbeitete unter Bedingungen, die viele Musiker als Einschränkung empfinden würden, und entwickelte technisch innovative Ansätze, um die Klänge und integrierten Effekte des CZ-5000 zu modifizieren. Das Gerät ermöglichte es ihm, die Wellenform, die Hüllkurve und die Tonart von Klängen mithilfe der Phasenverzerrungssynthese zu verändern und so im Grunde genommen Instrumente zu schaffen, während er Songs komponierte. Die Tracks zeichnen sich durch eine durchdachte impressionistische Vielfalt aus, die mal lo-fi, mal symphonisch klingt. Inmitten der Zerlegung und Verstärkung der Fähigkeiten des CZ-5000 gibt es auch einen geschmackvollen Rückgriff auf eine kindliche Interaktion und Erfahrung von Klang. Vielleicht ist es diese Erfahrungsqualität, die es so schwierig macht, Larrisons Projekt einfach als Ambient oder Elektronik zu verstehen. Sein Wille, die ihm zur Verfügung stehenden Werkzeuge zu transformieren, hebt die daraus resultierenden Kompositionen auf eine persönliche Ebene und verleiht der Musik einen bezaubernden Sinn für Mystik. Connecters ist ein Beweis für eine künstlerische Vision, die sich nicht durch Grenzen einschränken lässt und keine Angst vor Informalität hat. Diese Aufnahmen, die dreißig Jahre nach ihrer Dokumentation auf magische Weise an die Oberfläche kommen, zeigen, wie personalisierte Produktionsmittel die Zeit ausdehnen und verkürzen können. Larrison lädt die Zuhörer ein, sich auf die Wunder der auditiven Vorstellungskraft einzulassen - eine Brücke zwischen visueller Erinnerung, emotionaler Resonanz und der grenzenlosen Möglichkeit, mit den uns zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln Musik zu machen. Melody As Truth and Future Days Radio present ‘At the Emerald Pool’, an album by Tomo Katsurada and Jonny Nash.

Netherlands-based artists Tomo Katsurada (Ex-Kikagaku Moyo / Future Days Radio) and Jonny Nash (Melody As Truth) combine forces for an exploration into the sonic potential of the guitar duo, rooted in their experiences performing together over the last 12 months.

Friends and admirers of each other’s work for a decade, their musical collaboration began in 2024 with Katsurada asking Nash to contribute guitar to his debut EP ‘Dream Of The Egg’. Sensing the need to explore this further, they spent the following year performing together in different configurations, with Nash joining Katsurada’s trio and Katsurada in turn playing with Nash as a duo, across a wide spectrum of spaces, from churches and temples to concert halls, theatres and outdoor festivals. With new ideas developing organically out of these performances, recording new material became the next logical step. A short period of three days was set aside with a clear goal: to capture the essence of their fluid, intertwining melodies and guitar playing in a way that felt as direct and unfiltered as possible. Working from a handful of pre-existing sketches, they left ample room for experimentation to unfold within the process.


The results are presented on ‘At The Emerald Pool’, a collection of ten pieces that offer the listener a full immersion into the pair’s sound. With guitar as the primary instrument for both artists, it is no surprise that the core of the album lies here, specifically in the fluid interplay between the two players. Layers of gentle, delay-soaked fingerpicking often make it almost impossible to distinguish where one player ends and the other begins. As soloists, both Katsurada and Nash have a gift for crafting melodic lines that feel open and ascending, expressive and hopeful without becoming saccharine. Longer, more abstract pieces are counterbalanced by a series of shorter songs, with five vocal tracks appearing across the album. The decision to share vocal duties lends the record a unique quality and a strong sense of variation, bringing a wide expressive range out of a deliberately focused musical framework.


‘At The Emerald Pool’ represents the first chapter in an ongoing musical dialogue, an attempt to capture a moment of connection, openness and discovery, laying the foundation for what continues to unfold.

Curated by Brian d'Souza (aka Auntie Flo), Plants Can Dance is a forthcoming new compilation bringing together a global community of artists, exploring the creative possibilities of biosonification - transforming signals from plants, ecosystems and the natural world into sound. Out June 26th, the project marks the culmination of several years of d'Souza’s work across music, ecology and technology.

The album arrives at a time when more artists are turning toward nature as both subject and collaborator, such as Brian Eno’s Earth Percent, which formally recognises “Nature” as an artist. Plants Can Dance sits within a wider cultural shift, which is redefining the relationship between sound and the living world.

The project builds on several years of work by d'Souza, whose Plants Can Dance events have taken place across the UK, Europe, India and Africa, appearing in institutions including the V&A, Tate and the Design Museum. What began as a series of intimate gatherings has since evolved into a global platform, reflecting a growing appetite for work that reconnects music with the natural world.

The compilation features contributions from leading practitioners including Modern Biology (Tarun Nayar) in collaboration with saxophonist Zekarias Musele Thompson, OMMA (Olga Maximovam founder of Playtronica), Jason Singh, Dr Helen Anahita Wilson, Justin Wiggan in collaboration with celebrated Norwegian jazz musician Arve Henriksen, Lamine Touré, Bit Marten and Balam, alongside new work from d'Souza himself. Using a range of tools - from commercially available devices to bespoke modular systems - artists translate electrical activity, environmental data and organic processes into musical material.

The processes behind each piece differ - from interpreting plant biodata to translating wind patterns into compositional structures - and the results are as varied as they are compelling. The record spans ambient, jazz, electronica and modern classical, yet all pieces are unified by a shared intent: to reimagine music as a space of collaboration between human and more-than-human worlds.

At the core of Plants Can Dance is a question about how we define music, and how we choose to listen. Traditional musical forms, with their fixed tempos and predictable structures, give way here to something more fluid and less easily controlled. The listener is invited to surrender expectation and engage with sound as an evolving environment rather than a linear narrative. In this context, the compositions function as what d'Souza describes as “acoustic ecologies” - sonic systems shaped by biological, environmental and elemental forces unfolding in real time.

Rather than presenting definitive answers, Plants Can Dance positions itself as an artistic exploration grounded in curiosity, experimentation and critical thought.

Ultimately, Plants Can Dance is less concerned with proving whether plants “make music” than with changing how we listen. By inviting audiences to engage with sound shaped by non-humans, it opens up new ways of perceiving the environments we inhabit - not as passive backdrops, but as active, dynamic participants in a shared ecological network. In doing so, it offers a quietly radical proposition: that by listening differently, we might begin to relate to the natural world differently too.

Danou P Serves Up Deep, Funky Heat with his 'In The Brine EP' on Definitive Recordings.

Rotterdam-based producer and DJ Danou P delivers a standout four-tracker with 'In The Brine EP,' released on Definitive Recordings. Known for his warm, soulful and funk-infused take on house music, Danou channels raw rhythm and musical flair into a collection that feels both classic and freshly personal.

Opening track 'The Flex' sets the tone with stomping deep house drums, playful chord stabs, and clever vocal sample play that gives it a raw, jacking feel. It's got attitude and groove in equal measure. 'On My Own' keeps things rolling with a classic deep house bassline, gradually introducing a soulful vocal loop that blossoms with the arrival of shimmering synth layers. LOS ANGELES—To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the celebrated Talking Heads and Jonathan Demme’s concert film Stop Making Sense, the set will be re-released as a 2LP and 2CD/Blu-ray set this summer.

Released last year, the sold-out Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack will return as a 2-LP black vinyl on Rhino and 2-LP crystal clear vinyl at retail. Both variants feature a 12-page booklet with liner notes from all four band members –Tina Weymouth, David Byrne, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison—and band photos. The 2CD/Blu-ray version includes the entire 28-page booklet from last year’s Deluxe Edition and a Dolby Atmos mix of the complete concert, mixed by Jerry Harrison and E.T. Thorngren, who also mixed the original release. Both will be available on July 26. Pre-order now.

The band appeared together for a sold-out screening and Q&A last night at the Pantages Theater, the same theater at which Stop Making Sense was recorded. They were joined by Blondshell, who performed “Thank You For Sending Me an Angel.” Another special screening with the band will occur in Brooklyn at the King’s Theater on June 13, with the Q&A hosted by Questlove and The Linda Linda’s performing “Found a Job.” The two events cap off a banner year of celebrations for what many consider to be the best concert film of all time.

The inspiration for Stop Making Sense came when director Jonathan Demme saw Talking Heads perform during the band’s 1983 tour for Speaking in Tongues. Afterward, he approached them with the idea of making the show into a concert film. They agreed and worked together over the next few months to finalize the details. Ultimately, Demme filmed three shows at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983 to create Stop Making Sense.

The concert film presents a retrospective of the band up to that point, with a performance that weaves together songs from all six of its studio albums. The show progresses methodically, opening with Byrne onstage performing “Psycho Killer” alone with a drum machine. After each song, he’s joined by a new band member until Weymouth, Frantz, and Harrison are all on stage with him. The group continues to grow throughout the concert as members of the stellar touring band are added: keyboardist Bernie Worrell, percussionist Steve Scales, guitarist Alex Weir, and backup singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt.

The band performs 18 songs in Stop Making Sense, including its recent single at the time, “Burning Down The House.” That summer, the song was in heavy rotation on radio and MTV, helping the song become the band’s first top 10 hit in America. It was, however, a different song from Speaking in Tongues that was destined to deliver one of the film’s signature moments. Talking Heads would perform “Girlfriend Is Better” wearing the now iconic, oversized suit inspired by costumes worn in traditional Japanese theater. For good measure, a picture of David Byrne in the suit also graces the album cover.

Stop Making Sense focuses mainly on music by Talking Heads but does include a few songs recorded outside the band: “Genius Of Love” by Tom Tom Club, “What A Day That Was” and “Big Business” from Byrne’s 1981 album, The Catherine Wheel. Limited edition vinyl versions of both of these albums, along with Harrison’s The Red And The Black, were released for this year’s Record Store Day.

When it arrived in September 1984, Stop Making Sense was an artistic and commercial triumph. The film had people dancing in theatre aisles, and the soundtrack sold over two million copies. Just last year, the Library of Congress added Stop Making Sense to the National Film Registry in recognition of its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.

Weymouth praises Demme as a collaborator: “…Jonathan was a very enthusiastic, highly adaptive, and imaginative guy who was just as good a listener as he was a talker and collaborator. From the get-go you just got the impression he was as flexible as he was disciplined. Being team players, that boded well for a great relationship and a great film!”

Harrison says the film still holds up today: “To me, Stop Making Sense has remained relevant because the staging and lighting techniques could have been created in a much earlier time period. For example, Vari-Lights, lights with motors to re-aim them, had just come into vogue. Had we used them, there would have been a timestamp on the film, and it eventually would have felt dated...The absence of interviews, combined with the elegant and timeless lighting, created a film that can be watched over and over.”

Byrne says it’s interesting that this album was – for many people – an introduction to Talking Heads. “We had done a live album before this, but coupled with the film, and with the improved mixes and sound quality, this record reached a whole new audience. As often happens, the songs got an added energy when we performed them live and were inspired by having an audience. In many ways, these versions are more exciting than the studio recordings, so maybe that’s why a lot of folks discovered us via this record.”

Frantz recalls the sheer joy surrounding the entire Stop Making Sense experience. “I’m talking about real, conscious, transcendent joy… I’m talking about what the Southern gospel people call ‘getting happy,’ which means ‘to be filled with the Spirit.’ That is what happened to us onstage every night, and from my seat behind the drums, I recognized that this was happening to the audience too. Joy was visible in front of me and all around me every night.”

solo artist, dropping highly sought-after records with a distinct sound and craftsmanship that set him
apart. Just one year in, NINA has released on labels such as Innamind Recordings, 20/20 LDN, and
Locus Sound. This new chapter is a pure distillation of that journey - a sound informed by dub, garage,
grime, and soundsystem pressure.

Internal Makeup features four bass-driven club tools that are minimal, weighty and focussed on sub. Opening with “The World Is On Fire”, the only 4x4 track on the record, NINA sets the mood with a cavernous dub techno jam and spaced out vocals. The rest of the record - including the Rowl collaboration “When I Come” - hits firmly in UK Bass territory, with stripped compositions that focus on bass-weight and a strong Bristol influence.

Words from NINA: This EP came together slowly and surely over the space of about a year. I wanted to
encapsulate my true sound which can be extremely versatile which is why there is a bit of everything on there, from techno to garage to dubstep.

In 1955 Miles Davis played an all-star jam session at the Newport Jazz Festival with Thelonious Monk on piano, Gerry Mulligan on baritone sax and Zoot Sims on tenor sax. This performance immediately drew the attention of Columbia Records' George Avakian, who was so impressed that he immediately offered Davis a contract if he could form a regular band. The group he then assembled would go down in history as Davis' so-called "First Great Quintet", consisting of John Coltrane on tenor sax, Red Garland on piano, Philly Joe Jones on drums, Paul Chambers on bass and of course Miles himself on trumpet. 'Round Midnight is Miles Davis' first record for Columbia and also the first studio recording of the First Great Quintet. The recording sessions began on October 26 1955 but the album wasn't released until 1957 as Davis was still under contract at Prestige at the time. These respective sessions yielded Steamin', Workin', Cookin' and Relaxin'; albums that would go down in history as quintessential blueprints of late 1950s hard bop.

The record is made up of a collection of standards and one traditional song ("Dear Old Stockholm", from the 19th century). Notably, it features what may be considered the most well-known versions of Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight" and "Bye Bye Blackbird". That Avakian made a golden signing was sufficiently clear from the start, but no one could foresee that it would be this quintet on Columbia that would go on to change the course of modern jazz forever with Kind of Blue. 'Round Midnight is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on crystal clear vinyl.
