Limited to 500 copies! No repress! Transparent red vinyl! Hype sticker on front! 1961 schwappten die ersten Tropfen der neuen Surf-Welle in den Äther. Eine Gruppe kalifornischer Teenager namens The Belairs veröffentlichten mit "Mr. Moto" das ersten lupenreine Surf-Instrumental und viele weitere sollten folgen. Es war ein Lebensgefühl, es ging um Freiheit, Rebellion gegen die miefigen 50er, um Party und natürlich um die nächste Welle. All das spielte sich vorzugsweise im sonnigen Kalifornien ab. Der erste Hit des Genres war "Misirlou" von Dick Dale, das 1962 veröffentlicht wurde. Der Track stellt deutlich die drei Hauptkomponenten des Surf heraus: ein tragendes Gitarren-Thema (eben kein Gesang!), exotische Harmonien und Akkordfolgen sowie ein gehöriges Maß an Wildheit und Lautstärke! Leo Fender entwickelte dann für Dick Dale zwei Innovationen, ohne die die Surf-Musik nicht das geworden wäre, was sie ist: Den Fender Reverb - ein separates Federhall-Gerät - und den Fender-Showman-Verstärker. Dieses Equipment gehört gerade für Puristen auch heute noch zur Grundausstattung eines Surf-Gitarristen, der seinen Job ernst nimmt. Natürlich gab es jede Menge Bands, die nur eine oder zwei 7"-Singles veröffentlichten, die lokal verteilt oder bei Gigs verkauft wurden. Man braucht schon einen Mann mit Spürnase, um die Juwelen rauszupicken und die entsprechenden Preise für das Kleinvinyl zu zahlen. Unser Mann heißt DJ Crille, seinerseits Resident im Komet! Club in Hamburg (nahe Reeperbahn), und anerkannter Surf-Spezialist. Nebenher ist er auch für die Vocal Group Madness! LP und die Born To Hula Doppel-LP in der DJ Set Serie -beide auf Stag-O-Leeverantwortlich. Surfin Burt"s Surfin Safari! - Vol. 2 ist praktisch die perfekte Welle.

Stag-O-Lee präsentiert hier Teil 7 der äusserst erfolgreichen Trashcan Records Serie, die sich obskuren und vergessenen Vinyl Schätzen aus den 50er und frühen 60er Jahren widmet. Die originalen 45er stammen aus der stattlichen Sammlung von Fedor, einem Sammler und Jäger aus Amsterdam, der sich in den letzten 25 Jahren durch tausende von Kisten mit Gebrauchtvinyl auf Flohmärkten der holländischen Metropole wühlte. Diese Veröffentlichung ist wie gewohnt thematisch gegliedert. Seite 1 ist "Wacky Weirdos" betitelt und durchaus ein Sammelsurium an obskursten Schrägheiten, die einem einerseits ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zaubern und andererseits die Frage aufwirft, was man alles ungestraft auf Kleinvinyl pressen durfte. Seite 2 ist mit "Moody Instros" genau das. Instrumentals zwischen Mod Jazz und Rhythm & Blues, vom Lo-Fi Spuk bis zu sanften Kriechern. Natürlich alles megarar und bis dato auf keiner der zahlreichen anderen Compilations zu finden.

Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases ist der 2. Teil einer neuen Serie auf Stag-O-Lee. Vier Volumen sind geplant. Die Original Schallplatten stammen aus dem Fundus von unserem geschätzten Duke Jens-O-Matic, seit Jahrzehnten als Grafiker, international gefeierter DJ, Sammler und Jäger unterwegs. Schon damals, als wir Stag-O-Lee das erste Leben einhauchten, war Jens-O-Matic dabei und lieferte vier Volumen der wundervollen Jim Jam Gems 10" Serie ab. Jeweils stilistisch in sich geschlossen. Aktuell arbeitet er an weiteren Jim Jam Gems Volumen, tut sich aber mit den Linernotes schwer, weil, "man hat ja einen pädagogischen Auftrag!". Nun zu dem vorliegenden Tonträger: Was macht ein Freund der obskuren 7", wenn er schon alles im Bereich Rhythm & Blues usw. hat? Er sucht sich weitere Betätigungsfelder. Andere Länder, andere Musik, andere Einflüße. So auch unser Jens-O-Matic. Eine kleine Weltreise hat er für Voodoo Mambosis unternommen, seine neue Liebe den Cumbia einfließen lassen, eine Prise Voodoo drunter gemischt, einige alte Bluesheroen reaktiviert, dazu etwas Exotica - die schadet nie. Die große Kunst ist nun, diese auf Papier disparaten Elemente so zu verbinden, dass etwas einzigartiges, durchweg spannendes entsteht. Donna legt regelmäßig in Blues- und Soul-Clubs sowie bei Mod-Events im Vereinigten Königreich und im Ausland auf. For Dancer Only ist die legendäre Clubnacht von Bill Kealey, dem ebenso trinkfesten wie umtriebigen Sammler und Jäger aus Dublin. Quasi jedes Wochenende ist er mit seinem 7"-Vinylkoffer unterwegs und beglückt die Massen. Da er das schon ein paar Jahrzehnte macht, gehört er zur absoluten Champions League derer, die sich mit Rhythm & Blues der 50er und all seinen Spielarten beschäftigen. Dies ist seine erste Compilation und wir behaupten, dass es eine der Besten ist, die Stag-O-Lee je veröffentlicht hat.

Buzzsaw Joint ist eine monatlich stattfindende Londoner Clubnacht, die die Fans mit einer hochoktanigen Mischung aus Rhythm & Blues und Rock & Roll Trash betankt. Buzzsaw Chef Fritz hat zudem eine Mixcloud Seite ins Leben gerufen, mit Mixen zum Thema von Sammlern und Jägern rund um den Globus. Da war es nur folgerichtig, dass das ganze auch auf Vinyl und CD stattfindet. Mit Stag-O-Lee fand sich schnell jemand, der das für eine gute Idee hielt. Mehr Volumen/Cuts to follow. Get your ears around the wild"n"weird sounds of the extraordinary and inimitable Buzzsaw Joint! Für den 8. Cut der Buzzsaw Joint Serie wühlen Johnny Alpha und Carl Combover in ihren reich bestückten 7"-Kisten. Beide sind Meister in Sachen sleazy, greasy und fuzzy. Carl ist Chef der Go Go Cage Nacht in Liverpool und Johnny legt in und um Wigan (legendärer Ort - Wigan Casino!) auf. Beide sind auch weltweit gefragt und unterwegs. Für Cut 8 wählten sie Tracks, die sich nicht auf anderen, ähnlich gelagerten, Compilations finden. Ein weiteres Highlight in dieser starken Serie.

Es geschah gegen Ende des Jahres 2008, als drei Liebhaber der 7"-Single beschlossen, in Berlin eine neue Vinyl-only Clubnacht zu starten. Mit dem Ziel, die Fixierung auf einen speziellen Musikstil, den bis dahin die anderen Vintage Dances zelebrierten, zu durchbrechen. Es sollte keine Grenzen geben, also begaben unsere drei sich auf eine lange Reise, immer auf der Suche nach neuem schwarzem Kleinvinyl für die Sammlung, möglichst oskur, aber mit der Prämisse, den Tanzboden zu füllen. Und hier nun findet sich die 3. Sammlung aus dem Dusty Ballroom Schatzkästchen - eine spannende, aber eklektische Mischung aus 40er Jahre Jump Blues, 50er Jahre Exotica, einer Prise DooWop, Surf mit Eastern Vibe, Rock & Roll aus Hawaii, Burlesque Tunes und mehr. Funktioniert in jeder Lebenslage!

Gunsmoke ist eine Sammlung von Country- und Cowboy Tränenziehern mit oder ohne leichter Schräglage, melancholischem Rockabilly und Popcorn Noir aus den späten 50ern und frühen 60ern. So könnte eine alte Jukebox in einer verlassenen Stadt im alten Westen klingen....

Nach Crazy Rhythms Of Mata Hari, Shake Your Bones, dem Cool Cat Club und Born To Hula! Folgt nun der 5. Teil der DJ-Set Serie auf Stag-O-Lee. Wie auch bei den Vorgängern handelt es sich hier um einen auf 80 Minuten eingedampftes DJ-Set von einem verdienten Recken der Zunft - Keb Darge. Gaz Mayall folgt direkt mit Volume 6. Linernotes: Rockabilly didn't cross my world until the early nineteen eighties at a Dirtbox weekender in Bournemouth, until then I was a pure northern soul boy. I didn't really get stuck into collecting the stuff until a decade later, but when I did what a wonderful world of tunes opened up to me, and I went wild on it. I was very lucky to be doing a record stall in Camden market at the time just across from Boz Boorer and Neil Scott's stall. They along with other serious collectors Dave Vickers, Barney Koumis, Cosmic Keith, Jim Fox, Dave Crozier, and many others taught me all I needed to know. I only ever made one great rockabilly discovery which none of them knew, "Little Bit Lonesome" by Charles Ross, but I was happy enough buying all their recommendations as they were all new and exciting for me. I have done several rockabilly comps before, but sadly the Philippines typhoon in 2013 destroyed my village and forced me to sell the bulk of my collection. Here are some of my favourites that I never got round to putting out before that happened. Two of the aforementioned collectors are no longer with us. I therefore dedicate this comp to Dave Vickers and Cosmic Keith who both had a huge influence on my life and my musical taste.

Audiojack and Kevin Knapp return to Crosstown Rebels with their ‘Get It’ EP. Out on 22nd May 2026, the longstanding collaborators serve up a heavyweight two-tracker on Damian Lazarus’ imprint.

Leeds-born, Ibiza-based duo Audiojack reunite with US mainstay Kevin Knapp for their third Crosstown Rebels collaboration together on 22nd May, adding to 2021’s impressive ‘Under Your Skin’ EP and 2017’s ‘Implications’ EP. Having spent two decades at the forefront of the scene, the Gruuv bosses’ blend of house, minimal, and garage influences has landed on labels such as Hot Creations, Solid Grooves, 8bit, and more. Meanwhile, house music stalwart Kevin Knapp continues to push his own chunky and vibrant take on house music via international performances at venues such as fabric, Circo Loco, and Elrow, as well as releases on labels like Cuttin Headz, Repopulate Mars, Desert Hearts, and his own Plump Recordings. Title track ‘Get It’ is a rolling floor-focused cut, driven by a tightly wound bassline and rattling cowbells, while a brooding low-end foundation sets the stage for Kevin Knapp’s commanding vocal drops, elevating the cut into a full-throttle peak-time weapon. On the flip, ‘This Frequency’ is an equally potent club tool, built around an unfolding tracking groove and a wobbling melodic synth line, propelled by an electro-tinged bassline that steadily draws listeners further into its spell.

After a gap of over ten years, the Grammy nominated Jazz Funk band Down To The Bone are back with their groove laden, Acid Jazz tinged new album “This Way Forward”– here on an ultra-limited, special release of a doublepack vinyl album. Kraak & Smaak Announce New Album Velvet Seas.

Dutch electronic pioneers Kraak & Smaak return with their highly anticipated seventh studio

album, Velvet Seas. Penned and produced between their hometown of Leiden and the sun-

drenched sprawl of Los Angeles, the album channels a rich seam of West Coast psychedelia,

deep funk roots, and that unmistakable K&S groove, all wrapped in shimmering synths and

electronic soul.

The record captures the essence of the band's genre-defying journey, blending radiant nostalgia

with forward-thinking production. True to form, the Dutch trio have enlisted an eclectic roll-call of

collaborators: from the dreamy stylings of Kosta G (formerly known as PWNT and memebr of Rio Kosta) and Butter Bath to the powerhouse

vocals of Izo FitzRoy, plus contributions from The Undercover Dream Lovers, Kainalu, Iogi, and

longtime live partners IVAR and Berenice van Leer.

With hundreds of millions of streams under their belt and a legacy as industry tastemakers, Kraak

& Smaak are set to take Velvet Seas to the global stage, with a world tour slated for next year.

When people think of Tough Gong they usually think of Bob Marley and rightly so, as he was nicknamed and often called Tough Gong and from this his early releases which came out on the Tough Gong label. But Tough Gong was also the name of a recording complex named after Bob Marley hat included a top level recording studio, pressing plant and distribution centre that would allow reggae music to carry on many years after his sad and too early demise.

Bob Marley had take over the former residence of Island Records boss Chris Blackwell the Island House, 56 Hope Road around 1974. Just before the 'Smile Jamaica' concert on 03rd December the same year the house was ambushed by gunmen. Bob's manager Don Taylor was hit 5 times AND Bob was shot in the arm and his wife Rita Marley was hit in the head by a stray bullet. How no one was fatally injured is staggering. Immediately after the concert Bob Marley started his self imposed exile from Jamaica, settling in London, England. This would lead to the aptly named exodus album being recorded there in the summer of 1977. It would not be until the 'One Love' peace concert in Kingston's national arena on the 22nd April 1978 that would see Bob's return to the island. Marley felt is was important to show his commitment to the people of Jamaica and on his return to 56 Hope Road he began construction of his own recording studio with the help of music mogul Tommy Cowen. Unfortunately Bob Marley's short life would end on the 11th May 1981 from cancer which originated form a football injury. His passing would lead to 56 Hope Road being turned into a museum to the legend of reggae music.

A new location would have to be found to carry on Bob's work which was 220 Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston 11. The buyer would be Rita Marley and the Tough Gong International Organisation.

Engineers working at the new facility included Errol Browne who had worked at Treasure Isle studios and Hopeton Overton Browne known as 'Scientist', named by the great producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee who worked with him previously at King Tubbie's and Channel One's studios described his ground breaking style as being like that of a scientist.

We focus for this release on the work carried out by the great Scientist on the songs of the Black Solidarity Label run by Ossie Thomas (aka Joe The Boss) recorded at Tough Gong studios. One of the foremost recording, pressing and distribution facilities on the Jamaican island set up from the work of Bob Marley to carry forward reggae music. Hope you enjoy this set......
